Knowing how to view the town map in Paralives is one of the first things you need to figure out. Paralives takes place in an open world called Melino, and when you first start playing, the sheer number of lots, venues, and buildings can feel overwhelming. The map is your best tool for getting your bearings. Here is everything you need to know about opening it, reading it, and using it to your advantage.
How to Open the Town Map in Paralives
There are three ways to bring up the town map view in Paralives. All of them do the same thing — zoom out the camera until you can see the entire town laid out below you.
- Press M on your keyboard
- Scroll down on your mouse wheel to zoom out gradually
- Press the minus / dash (–) key on your keyboard
Any of these will pull the camera back to the town overview. You will know you are in map view when a slight hazy filter appears over the world and icons pop up above each lot on the screen. These icons show you what type of building or space each lot is, making it easy to identify key locations at a glance.
To zoom back in and return to ground level, scroll up on the mouse wheel, press the plus (+) key, or press M again.
How to Read the Town Map Icons in Paralives
Once you are in map view, you will see icons floating above every lot in Melino. Each icon represents the type or purpose of that location — whether it is a residential home, a café, the museum, the library, a park, or an empty lot for sale.
Hover your cursor over any icon to see the name of that building or lot. This is the quickest way to figure out where everything is without having to walk your Para across town first.
Empty lots available for purchase are also visible from the map. If you are thinking about moving or buying property, the map view gives you a clear picture of what is available and where it sits in relation to the rest of the town.
Pause Time Before Exploring the Map
This is a small but important tip. When you are in town map view, time in Paralives keeps moving. Your Parafolk’s needs continue to change, and they will just sit around idly while you are browsing the map.
Before you start exploring the map layout, click the pause icon in the bottom right corner of the screen to stop time. This lets you take as long as you need to learn the town layout, check building names, and plan your Parafolk’s day — without any in-game time passing or needs declining while you do it.

How to Switch Households from the Town Map
The town map is also how you switch between different households in Melino. This is something you will need to do regularly as you manage multiple families or want to check in on other residents.
Here is how to do it:
- Open the town map by pressing M or scrolling out.
- Find a household lot that has residents living in it — these will have an occupied household icon above them.
- Click on that lot.
- Select Switch to this Household from the options that appear.
A short loading screen will appear and then you will begin playing as that household. It is a quick and clean process — one of the more intuitive features in Paralives compared to similar life sim games.
What Is Melino? The Town in Paralives Explained
Melino is the name of the town where all of Paralives takes place. It is a fully open world with over 70 lots — no loading screens between areas. You can walk, run, or travel freely from one end of town to the other.
The town is designed to feel compact and dense rather than large and empty. Narrow streets, lively plazas, and detailed architecture inspired by European old towns give Melino a lived-in feeling from day one. Hundreds of Parafolk live and move around the town, keeping the world active even when you are not directly controlling them.
Your Parafolk arrive in Melino by train at the start of the game — and the train station is the first landmark you will see when you begin a new save.
Melino’s Four Districts
Melino is divided into four named districts, each with its own atmosphere, architecture, and activities. Understanding the layout of each one helps you navigate the town map much faster.
Old Town
Old Town is the historical heart of Melino. It uses a European-inspired architectural style with stone townhouses, narrow streets, and cobblestone plazas. The design was partly inspired by the history of Quebec, with the developers wanting to represent a fortified trading town.
This is the most dense and social district in the game. Old Town is home to the largest concentration of venues and activities, including cafés, restaurants, the museum, the library, the town hall, small shops, parks, and the gym — all within walking distance of each other. Key confirmed venues in Old Town include Bloom, Headlines, the Museum, SuperGamezPlus Inc., Creme Cafe, The Story Nook, and Chez Maurice.
Old Town is also where you will find the museum donation boxes, the community center ruins, and the densest area for the weekly Buried Treasure hunt collectibles.
Industrial District
The Industrial district represents a more modern era in Melino’s history. Brick apartment blocks, office buildings, paved roads, shipping containers, and elevated railway tracks dominate the skyline here, giving it a distinctly urban look compared to Old Town. If your Para prefers city living or has a more modern taste in homes, this district has the housing options for that.
Mountain District
The Mountain district sits higher up and offers a more secluded, peaceful atmosphere. Think forest trails, hillside homes, and quieter surroundings away from the bustle of Old Town. It is a great area for Parafolk who want some privacy or who enjoy outdoor activities like foraging for mushrooms and collectibles.
Countryside
The Countryside district sits on the outskirts of Melino and features more spacious lots with a rural character. This is where you will find large properties, open land, and a more relaxed pace. It is the furthest from the town center but offers some of the most room to build and live freely.
Key Locations to Find on the Town Map
Once you know what to look for, these are the most important spots to locate early in the game:
- Museum — Northwest of Melino, near the town hall and library. You will need this for early Life Goal donations. Our guide on how to make a donation to the museum in Paralives covers the full process.
- Town Hall and Library — Located in the northwest of the map, right next to the museum. The library is useful for skill building.
- Community Center Ruins — Slightly south of the museum. This is a buildable community space you can help develop over time through donations.
- Train Station — The starting point for new arrivals. Located at the entrance to Old Town.
- High School — Slightly east of the museum and town hall area.
- Health Center — Located in the northern part of Melino.
- Lighthouse — A landmark in Melino, visible along the coast.
- Job Posters — Scattered around town. These are visible when you are at ground level and offer an alternative way to find job listings without using your phone or a computer.
Tips for Using the Town Map Effectively
- Always pause before browsing — stop time so your Parafolk’s needs do not change while you look around.
- Hover over every icon when you first start — spend a few minutes learning where everything is before you begin your first day.
- Use the map to plan your Para’s day — check where the nearest café or park is before deciding what to do next.
- Check for properties for sale — the map shows available lots and homes clearly, which helps when you are ready to move or invest.
- Switch households from the map — it is the fastest way to jump between families without navigating menus.
- Zoom in gradually using the mouse wheel after navigating the map to land exactly where you want to be on the ground.
Does Paralives Have a Full Interactive Map?
The in-game town map view is the main way to see Melino. There is no separate full-screen map menu — the map is simply what you see when you zoom all the way out. The lot icons and hover text are the main tools for identifying locations.
The town is fully open world, meaning you can physically explore every area on foot without any loading screens between locations. Many players find it easier to learn the layout by simply walking around Melino in the first few in-game days rather than relying only on the map view.
A Note on Early Access
Paralives is currently in Early Access as of May 2026. The town of Melino and its districts are subject to change as the developers at Paralives Studio continue to add new lots, venues, and gameplay systems over the coming updates. New areas and buildings may be added as the game grows toward its full 1.0 release.
