Kingdom Hearts 4 D23 Panel — Tai Yasue, Riku Voice Actor and Everything Confirmed for August 15

Kingdom Hearts fans have been operating on scraps since the original 2022 announcement, and a new breadcrumb just dropped ahead of what could be the franchise’s biggest public moment in years. The official D23 app has revealed profiles for three significant names attached to the Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts panel on August 15, 2026 — and the combination of a confirmed co-director credit for Kingdom Hearts 4 alongside both principal voice actors is the clearest signal yet that this panel is going to deliver more than a nostalgia trip.

What the D23 App Revealed — And Why It Was Pulled

Eagle-eyed fans, as reported by Kingdom Hearts Insider, discovered profiles for three major guests that will likely be taking part in the panel — series co-director Tai Yasue, Sora voice actor Haley Joel Osment, and Riku voice actor David Gallagher. While the three profiles were live in the D23 app, they’ve since been removed, likely because these guests weren’t supposed to be known beforehand.

The removal is itself telling. Profiles don’t get scrubbed from an official app because the information is unimportant — they get scrubbed because someone decided the reveal should be controlled. The damage, such as it is, was done quickly. The community had already screenshotted everything, and the details spread across Kingdom Hearts fan spaces within hours of discovery.

Most importantly, the D23 app specifically identifies Tai Yasue as the co-director of Kingdom Hearts IV in his profile description. That’s not a historical credit or an honorary mention — it’s a current role confirmation tied to an upcoming release, and it’s the detail that elevates this from “cast reunion panel” to “here’s new Kingdom Hearts 4 information.”

Who’s Confirmed for the D23 Panel

Tai Yasue — Co-Director of Kingdom Hearts IV

Yasue has been the co-director of the Kingdom Hearts series since Kingdom Hearts RE: Chain of Memories, working alongside series creator and director Tetsuya Nomura on every major release since. His credits include Birth by Sleep, Dream Drop Distance, and Kingdom Hearts 3. His profile specifically identifies him as the co-director of Kingdom Hearts IV — making this the first time his role on the new game has been officially confirmed in any capacity. Nomura remains the lead director; Yasue’s co-director confirmation fills in the creative leadership picture for KH4.

Yasue’s presence is also significant because he is genuinely bilingual and serves as one of the primary bridges between Square Enix Japan’s development team and Western audiences at press events. Having him at the panel means the team can speak directly to international fans about the game’s development in ways that typically require translation in Nomura-only settings.

Haley Joel Osment — Voice of Sora

Osment has voiced Sora in every Kingdom Hearts game since the original 2002 release. His presence at D23 was already expected given that Sora is confirmed to return in KH4, but having him there alongside David Gallagher is the part that has the community paying attention. There are almost zero interviews or events to date that have featured the two actors together, which makes this configuration unusual and suggests something beyond a standard franchise anniversary celebration.

David Gallagher — Voice of Riku, Confirmed for Kingdom Hearts 4

Gallagher’s profile is the most newsworthy of the three. While his return as Riku isn’t a shocking creative choice, it had not been officially confirmed before the D23 app revealed it. Most notably, David Gallagher will return as the voice of Riku in Kingdom Hearts 4. While none of this is earth-shattering news, it is information that had not previously been confirmed. With Haley Joel Osment’s Sora already on the board, Gallagher’s Riku confirmation means two of the original trio are officially locked in for KH4. The only member of the core three still unconfirmed is Kairi, voiced by Hayden Panettiere in the English dub.

What the Panel Is Actually About — And What We Might See

Titled “DEEP DIVE into KINGDOM HEARTS,” this panel will take place at 4:30 PM PT on August 15, 2026. D23 runs from August 14 to 16. The official event description confirms the panel will celebrate 25 years of the franchise, looking back at its history and examining how the series brought together Disney, Pixar and Square Enix, featuring members of the creative team, character voice actors and others involved with the series.

A pure anniversary retrospective doesn’t require the active co-director of an upcoming sequel to be present. It also doesn’t require assembling Sora and Riku’s voice actors in the same room for what would be, by most accounts, one of their first public appearances together. The most likely read of the guest lineup is that the panel will cover franchise history as its framing device, then pivot into new Kingdom Hearts 4 material — potentially new footage, a release window, Disney world announcements, or some combination of the above.

It’s possible that we might get our first look at Riku in Kingdom Hearts 4 at the event, as well as potentially even footage of the English dub. The June 2026 Nintendo Direct showing was entirely in Japanese with no English voiceover, so an English dub reveal at D23 would be consistent with the trajectory of the game’s marketing and with having both principal English voice actors on stage.

One important caveat: they’re all just listed for D23 in general and not tied to any specific showcase, meaning there’s no guarantee the panel will be structured the way the community is hoping. But the composition of the guest list makes the alternative — a pure retrospective with no KH4 content — feel increasingly unlikely.

Is the D23 Panel Being Streamed?

As of now, no streaming confirmation has been given for the Deep Dive into Kingdom Hearts panel. D23 streams some panels and not others, and the Kingdom Hearts community is waiting to find out which category this one falls into. Given the likely significance of the content, the pressure for a stream is high — but Disney hasn’t committed either way yet.

What We Still Don’t Know About Kingdom Hearts 4

The D23 panel has a lot of ground to cover if it wants to answer the community’s outstanding questions. The most significant gaps in public knowledge about KH4 include:

    • No confirmed Disney worlds — trailers have only shown the realistic Quadratum setting, with no confirmed licensed worlds revealed. One trailer appeared to include Endor from Star Wars, making that the leading candidate for a first world reveal
    • No release window — the June 2026 Nintendo Direct showing had no date or even a year attached to it
    • Kairi’s status — the only original trio member not yet confirmed for KH4 in any capacity
    • The Lost Master Arc’s scope — KH4 opens a new story arc following the defeat of Xehanort and Organization XIII, introducing characters like Luxu and Strelitzia whose roles remain unclear

Rumoured worlds from a leak circulating in fan communities include Moana, Zootopia, The Incredibles, Inside Out, Coco, Wall-E, Brave, Princess and the Frog, Hercules, Wreck-It Ralph across multiple areas (Game Central Station, Niceland, Cybug Sector, and Candy Kingdom), Star Wars, and returning original worlds including Radiant Garden, Destiny Islands, Scala Ad Caelum, and the Mysterious Tower. None of these have been officially confirmed.

It’s also worth noting that Kingdom Hearts Collection [I ~ III] will be released natively for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S on October 8, 2026 — a collection release that suggests Square Enix is actively onboarding new players ahead of KH4’s eventual launch window.
