Magicite Shards in Final Fantasy Resonance 2

    TL;DR

    • Magicite Shards are used to Awaken Visions — unlocking stronger skills and abilities.
    • There are three grades: Magicite Shard (Awakening 1), Magicite (Awakening 2), Magicite Cryst (Awakening 3).
    • You can’t use them until you unlock the Moogle of Light in Grandport at the end of Chapter 1.
    • You find Magicite in treasure chests, quest rewards, enemy drops, and the Oblivion Palace Tablet Shard vault.
    • Magicite is limited — spend it on Visions you actually use in battle.
    • Magicite Shards are not the same as Tablet Shards — these are two separate items.

What Are Magicite Shards in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Magicite Shards are one of the most important upgrade materials in Final Fantasy Resonance. They are used to Awaken Visions — the game’s job-like system where you equip legendary characters onto your party to give them new skills.

Every Vision starts with a limited set of abilities when you first obtain it. The rest of its kit is locked behind its Awakening Level, which you can only raise by spending Magicite. Think of it as the key that unlocks a Vision’s true potential.

The game is upfront about one important thing: Magicite is finite. Square Enix designed it this way deliberately. You won’t have enough to Awaken every Vision, so you have to choose. Pick the ones you actually play with.

Magicite Shard vs Magicite vs Magicite Cryst — What’s the Difference?

There are three grades of Magicite in Final Fantasy Resonance. Each one matches a specific Awakening Level. You can’t combine smaller pieces to skip a tier — you need the right grade for each stage.

    • Magicite Shard — Used for Awakening Level 1. The most common and the first one you’ll find. Found in chests, quest rewards, and some enemy drops.
    • Magicite — Used for Awakening Level 2. Rarer. Found in a handful of chests, dropped by optional superbosses, and from the Oblivion Palace vault.
    • Magicite Cryst — Used for Awakening Level 3. The rarest. Can be bought for 250,000 Gil, but realistically you’ll want to find one in the Oblivion Palace vault first. Sell price is just 1 Gil — so don’t accidentally sell it.

These are also completely different from Tablet Shards. Tablet Shards are the glowing gold collectibles you find in towns and dungeons and hand over to the Enigmatic Princess at Oblivion Palace. Magicite is what you spend at the Moogle. They look similar in name but have different uses entirely.

When Can You Start Awakening Visions?

You can collect Magicite from the very beginning of the game — but you can’t spend it until a specific moment late in Chapter 1.

The Moogle of Light is the NPC who handles Vision Awakening. You first meet him in Grandport, right after you defeat Siren at Siren’s Tower and return to Grandport Harbor. Once that cutscene plays and the Moogle appears, talk to him to open the Vision Enhancement menu.

From that point on, you can Awaken any Vision you’ve collected — as long as you have the right Magicite grade for the tier you want. Any Magicite Shards you picked up before reaching Grandport are all still in your inventory and ready to spend.

How to Awaken a Vision — Step by Step

Once the Moogle of Light is available in Grandport, the process is simple:

    1. Talk to the Moogle of Light in Grandport.
    2. Select Vision Enhancement from the menu.
    3. Choose the Vision you want to Awaken.
    4. The game will prompt you — for example, “Consume 1 Magicite Shard to awaken Cloud?”
    5. Confirm, and the Magicite is used up. The Vision’s Awakening Level goes up by one permanently.

That’s it. The upgrade is permanent and carries across all characters who equip that Vision.

What Does Awakening a Vision Actually Do?

Awakening a Vision unlocks stronger versions of its abilities — higher-level spells, additional battle skills, and passive bonuses that weren’t available at the base level. Each of the three Awakening stages adds a new layer of power.

A few examples of what Awakening unlocks:

    • Tronn at Awakening 3 gains Bio, Confuse, and True Stagger.
    • Leah at Awakening 3 gains Reraise, Reflect, and Preventive Care.
    • Zidane at Awakening 2 gains Discerning Eye, which increases the success rate of stealing rare items. His Awakening 3 unlocks Treasure Hunter, which guarantees a rare item on a successful Steal — arguably one of the most useful passive skills in the game for farming Magicite later.

It’s also worth knowing that Awakening Level and Mastery Rank are separate systems. Mastery Rank goes up through combat — you earn Mastery Points (MRP) every time you win a battle with a Vision equipped. Awakening Level only rises when you spend Magicite at the Moogle. Doing well in battles does not Awaken your Visions automatically.

Where to Get Magicite Shards in Final Fantasy Resonance

Here’s a breakdown of every reliable source for all three Magicite types, starting with what’s available early in the game.

    Treasure Chests

Magicite Shards are hidden in chests across multiple regions. Confirmed chest locations include:

    • Siren’s Tower — One Magicite Shard in a chest on the tower’s second floor. This is actually the earliest chest Magicite you can collect in the whole game, right during your first Chapter 1 dungeon run.
    • Oblivion Palace — Two Magicite Shards on the second floor of the Tablet Shard vault, one Magicite on the third floor, and one Magicite Cryst on the fourth floor.
    • Wind Shrine (Dirnado) — One Magicite Shard.
    • Cave of Waters (Olderion) — One Magicite Shard.
    • Water Shrine (Olderion) — One Magicite Shard.
    • Underground Tunnel (Zoldaad) — One Magicite Shard.

    Quest Rewards

Several side quests hand out Magicite as rewards. In Chapter 1 alone:

    • “Rear Support, Ahoy!” — Talk to the sailor at the Grandport docks. Completing this quest gives you a Magicite Shard.
    • “Secrets Unearthed” — Chloe’s quest at the Felicitas item shop. Rewards a Magicite Shard.

Story-gated quest rewards also appear at Waterfall Way (Olderion), Grandport Harbor, Town of Felicitas (Kolobos), Dwarven Forge (Dirnado), and Olderion the Aquapolis. Do side quests as you go — these add up fast.

    Boss and Enemy Drops

    • Golem boss (Marauder Cave, Kingdom of Grandshelt) — Drops a Magicite Shard. This is a Cave Master boss, tied to the optional dungeon system.
    • The Marauder (optional superboss, Chapter 1 world map) — The only enemy in Chapter 1 that drops a full Magicite (not just a Shard). It’s tough for a Chapter 1 fight, but the reward is worth it.
    • Gigantuar (Gronoa and Pharm world maps) — Can be stolen from for a full Magicite.
    • Gargantuan Gigantuar (Colosseum, Gladiator Battle 5) — Can be stolen from for a Magicite Cryst.
    • Cactuars — These can be stolen from for Magicite Shards. They appear later in the game and are one of the better farming targets once you have Zidane’s Steal skills unlocked.

The Oblivion Palace Tablet Shard Vault

This is the big one, and it’s worth understanding properly. In Oblivion Palace, there’s an Enigmatic Princess who takes your Tablet Shards and opens treasure chests in exchange. The chests unlock at cumulative thresholds — the more Tablet Shards you’ve handed in, the more chests open.

Here’s what’s relevant to Magicite in the 1-Star Room:

    • Chest III — Requires 9 Tablet Shards — Rewards a Magicite Shard.
    • Chest VII — Higher threshold — Another Magicite Shard.

And across the higher floors of the vault:

    • Second floor — Two Magicite Shards.
    • Third floor — One Magicite.
    • Fourth floor — One Magicite Cryst.

That fourth-floor Magicite Cryst is the most important one to know about. It’s the only realistic way to get a Magicite Cryst early without spending 250,000 Gil at a shop. If you’ve been collecting Tablet Shards as you go, this chest is waiting for you. Collect Tablet Shards in every town and dungeon — there are 99 total in the game, and Siren’s Tower alone has three.

    Pre-Order Bonus

If you pre-ordered the game, you received a Magitek Airship and Squire Starter Pack which included one Magicite Shard as a bonus item. It’s delivered via the mailbox outside the inn in the Town of Mitra once you progress far enough in Chapter 1.

    Shop (Last Resort)

Magicite Shards can technically be bought from at least one shop for 10,000 Gil each. Magicite Crysts can be purchased for 250,000 Gil. These aren’t things you’ll be buying casually, but they’re there if you’re trying to max a specific Vision and you’re deep into the endgame.

Which Visions Should You Awaken First?

The short answer: awaken the Visions you’re actually fighting with. Don’t spread Magicite Shards thin across Visions you rarely equip.

Here’s how to think about it:

    • Chapter 1 gives you very few Magicite Shards. Don’t waste them on Visions you’re not using in the current chapter.
    • Prioritize your combat Visions first. If you’re running Warrior of Light or Tronn on a character for most battles, those are the ones that benefit most from unlocked abilities.
    • Consider Zidane for Awakening 2 and 3 when you reach Chapter 2. His Awakening 2 gives Discerning Eye (better Steal odds) and his Awakening 3 gives Treasure Hunter (guaranteed rare item on Steal). That directly feeds back into your ability to get more Magicite from enemies like Cactuars and Gigantuars, making it a long-term investment that pays for itself.
    • Don’t hoard Magicite Shards. The passive bonuses from Awakening are real, early value — spending them before a tough chapter is almost always the right call.

Magicite Shard vs Tablet Shard — Don’t Confuse Them

This trips up a lot of players. They sound similar, but they are completely different items.

    • Magicite Shards — Spent at the Moogle of Light to Awaken Visions.
    • Tablet Shards — Turned in to the Enigmatic Princess at Oblivion Palace to unlock treasure chests. Those chests can contain Magicite, but the Tablet Shards themselves are not Magicite.

The connection is: Tablet Shards → Oblivion Palace chest rewards → Magicite. They’re part of the same loop, but they’re not interchangeable.

Tips for Getting More Magicite in Final Fantasy Resonance

    • Always explore fully before leaving an area. Magicite Shards in chests don’t respawn. If you miss one, you’ll need to backtrack later.
    • Do side quests as soon as they appear. Several Magicite Shard rewards come from optional quests that expire or change availability as you progress chapters.
    • Collect Tablet Shards constantly. The Oblivion Palace vault is one of the best Magicite sources in the early game, but it only opens up if you’ve been picking up Tablet Shards along the way.
    • Don’t buy Magicite Crysts early. 250,000 Gil is an enormous sum in the early game. Get the vault one first, then worry about buying if you still need more in the late game.
    • Awaken Zidane’s Steal skills when you can. Treasure Hunter makes rare steals guaranteed, which is huge for farming Magicite from enemies like Gigantuars.
    • Fight Cave Masters. Optional boss dungeons called Cave Masters drop Magicite on defeat. They’re tough but worth seeking out.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What are Magicite Shards used for in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Magicite Shards are used to Awaken Visions to their first Awakening Level. Awakening unlocks stronger abilities, higher-level skills, and spells that the Vision can’t access at its base state. You spend them at the Moogle of Light in Grandport.

Where is the first Magicite Shard in Final Fantasy Resonance?

The first Magicite Shard you can find in a chest is inside Siren’s Tower in Chapter 1, on the second floor. You can also earn one by completing the “Secrets Unearthed” quest in Felicitas and another from the “Rear Support, Ahoy!” quest in Grandport.

When can I use Magicite Shards in Final Fantasy Resonance?

You can collect Magicite from the very start, but you can’t spend it until the end of Chapter 1. After defeating Siren and returning to Grandport, the Moogle of Light appears. Talk to him to open Vision Enhancement and start spending Magicite.

Are Magicite Shards the same as Tablet Shards?

No. They are completely different items. Magicite Shards are spent at the Moogle of Light to Awaken Visions. Tablet Shards are collectibles you hand in to the Enigmatic Princess at Oblivion Palace to unlock chests — some of which contain Magicite as rewards.

How many times can you Awaken a Vision?

Each Vision can be Awakened three times. Each stage requires a different Magicite grade: a Magicite Shard for stage 1, a Magicite for stage 2, and a Magicite Cryst for stage 3.

Is Magicite limited in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Yes. Magicite is a finite resource. Square Enix designed the system so you have to choose which Visions to Awaken rather than maxing out every single one. Focus on the Visions you use most in battle.

What is the best Vision to Awaken first in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Awaken the Visions you’re actively equipping in battle first. In Chapter 1, that typically means Tronn or Warrior of Light depending on your party setup. Later, prioritizing Zidane for Awakening 2 and 3 pays off long-term because his Treasure Hunter skill makes rare steals guaranteed — helping you farm more Magicite from enemies.

Can you buy Magicite Shards in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Yes, but they’re expensive. Magicite Shards cost 10,000 Gil each at certain shops. Magicite Crysts cost 250,000 Gil. Neither is practical in the early game — rely on chests, quests, and the Oblivion Palace Tablet Shard vault instead.

Does Awakening Level affect Mastery Rank in Final Fantasy Resonance?

No. These are two separate systems. Awakening Level rises by spending Magicite at the Moogle. Mastery Rank rises by earning Mastery Points (MRP) through combat with a Vision equipped. One does not affect the other.

Is Siren’s Tower related to getting Magicite Shards?

Yes, in two ways. First, there is a Magicite Shard chest inside Siren’s Tower on the second floor. Second, beating Siren is what triggers the Moogle of Light to appear in Grandport — which is the NPC you need to actually start spending Magicite. Here’s our full guide to getting inside Siren’s Tower if you need help with that first.

What is the Moogle of Light in Final Fantasy Resonance?

The Moogle of Light is the NPC in Grandport who manages Vision Awakening. You first meet him after clearing Siren’s Tower in Chapter 1. Talk to him to open the Vision Enhancement screen and spend your Magicite to unlock stronger abilities on your Visions.
