What Is the Sealing Stone in Final Fantasy Resonance?
Early in your exploration of the Kingdom of Grandshelt, you’ll stumble across a massive boulder sitting in the desert. Rain immediately recognizes it as a Sealing Stone — something ancient and sealed tight. Whatever is inside isn’t coming out easily.
That something is Titan, the Earth Esper. He’s one of nine Espers in the game, and the only one locked behind a physical puzzle like this. The stone sits at a location called the Esper’s Dwelling, east of Siren’s Tower in Grandshelt’s desert region — some sources also describe it as west of the Village of Kol, depending on which direction you approach from.
If you’re reading this because you tried to interact with it and nothing happened, you’re not missing something obvious. You simply can’t break it yet. There’s no item nearby, no clue it gives you in the moment. You need a specific weapon that won’t be available for several hours of play.
Why Can’t You Break the Sealing Stone Yet?
The Sealing Stone requires the Gaia Hammer — a unique weapon tied specifically to Lid — to smash it open. And the Gaia Hammer only becomes available once the Grandshelt Colosseum is unlocked.
The Colosseum opens in Chapter 4, so if you found the stone in Chapter 1 and are wondering why nothing works, that’s your answer. It’s a mid-game side quest, not something the early game lets you complete. You’ll need a full party and several hours of story progress before you can come back here.
This also means the Sealing Stone is completely optional — Titan is not required for the main story. But he’s one of the best Espers in the game and well worth the effort.
Who Is Lid and Why Does It Matter?
Lid is the only character who can break the Sealing Stone. The Gaia Hammer is her weapon, and only she can equip it. When you approach the stone with the Gaia Hammer in your inventory and Lid in your party, the option to smash it appears.
Lid joins your party in Chapter 2, in the city of Dilmagia on Dirnado. She’s a mechanical engineer and a permanent party member from that point on. If you haven’t reached Chapter 2 yet, the Sealing Stone simply won’t be breakable — even with everything else in place.
You don’t need to equip the Gaia Hammer on Lid before examining the stone, but it needs to be in your inventory and Lid needs to be in the active party.
How to Get the Gaia Hammer — Step by Step
The Gaia Hammer is earned exclusively at the Grandshelt Colosseum. It cannot be purchased in any shop, and it cannot be dropped by enemies or found in a chest. The only way to get it is through the Colosseum’s Fledgling League.

Step 1 — Unlock the Grandshelt Colosseum
The Colosseum is located in Grandshelt, the Royal Capital. It opens during Chapter 4 and becomes available as optional side content from that point onward. The Colosseum has four leagues of increasing difficulty — Fledgling, Brawler, Gladiator, and a fourth harder league — each containing five battles.
You do not need to complete Chapter 4’s main story objectives before entering. As soon as the Colosseum unlocks and you can access Grandshelt, you can try the Fledgling League. However, the recommended level for the fifth Fledgling battle is around level 32, which most players reach naturally around Chapter 5.
Step 2 — Complete the Fledgling League
The Fledgling League is the first league — the green table on the far left inside the Colosseum. You work through five battles in sequence. Each battle is unlocked by clearing the one before it.
You don’t need to clear the league in one sitting. Come back whenever you’re ready for the next fight. The Colosseum battles scale in difficulty as you go, with Battle 5 recommended at level 32 — the toughest of the five but manageable if you’ve been keeping up with your party’s equipment and Vision Awakenings.
Battle 5 of the Fledgling League pits you against an Allosaur, Ice Sculpture, and Ahriman. Go in with a balanced party and strong elemental coverage. Check our tips and tricks guide for help with party preparation before challenging it.
Step 3 — Claim the Gaia Hammer
The Gaia Hammer is the first-clear prize for winning Fledgling Battle 5. It goes straight into your inventory the moment the battle ends. It’s a one-time reward — you get it on first clear only, not on repeat runs. The Gaia Hammer has 95 Physical Attack and 93 Magic Power, making it a genuine upgrade for Lid at the point you earn it.
Importantly, the Gaia Hammer is not consumed when you smash the Sealing Stone. You keep it as a usable weapon afterward. There’s no reason to hold off equipping it on Lid once you have it.

How to Break the Sealing Stone — Step by Step
Once you have the Gaia Hammer and Lid in your party, breaking the Sealing Stone is straightforward.
- Travel to Grandport Harbor and speak with the young man there if you haven’t already. He mentions the sealing boulder in the desert and effectively starts the Titan side quest by marking the location on your map. You don’t technically need this conversation to find the stone, but it’s good context and easy to do.
- Fast travel to Grandshelt, the Royal Capital, then head east through the desert toward the area marked as the Esper’s Dwelling. The Sealing Stone is east of Siren’s Tower.
- Approach the Sealing Stone with Lid in your active party and the Gaia Hammer in your inventory.
- Examine the stone. You’ll be given two options — Smash it with the Gaia Hammer or Leave it be. Choosing to leave it changes nothing and lets you come back whenever you’re ready.
- Select Smash it with the Gaia Hammer. The stone cracks open, revealing the entrance to the Esper’s Dwelling inside.
- Head inside and proceed deeper. Titan’s fight waits further in — it doesn’t start the moment you break the stone.
- Prepare before the fight. There’s a moment between entering and engaging Titan — use it to check your party’s HP and equipment.

How to Beat Titan — the Earth Esper Boss Fight
Titan is a Level 30 boss and a significant step up from anything in Chapter 1. He has far more HP than Siren and a much larger stagger gauge, so he takes sustained pressure to bring down.
The single most important thing to know before this fight:
Titan is immune to Earth damage. Do not use Earth attacks. Any Earth skill you use is a completely wasted turn. This sounds obvious, but it catches players off guard who have Earth-element Visions or abilities equipped out of habit.
Key tips for the Titan fight:
- Apply Protect buffs on your party before the fight escalates. Titan’s physical hits are heavy, and damage reduction makes the fight much more manageable.
- Apply Deshell on Titan to increase how much magic damage you deal. Combined with elemental magic attacks, this speeds up the fight considerably.
- Use non-Earth elemental magic for damage. Wind, Water, and Lightning are all safe options. Focus on elements your equipped Visions support.
- Keep your healer active. Fina’s healing is important here — Titan’s hits are hard enough that you can’t ignore HP management.
- Stagger him when possible. Burst damage during a stagger window is your best chance to take big chunks off his HP quickly.
This is not a fight you want to rush into underprepared. If your party is struggling, check your Vision Awakenings — Awakening your most-used Visions before this fight makes a real difference in damage output.
What Do You Get for Breaking the Sealing Stone?
Once you defeat Titan, he joins Fina’s Esper roster as a summon. Titan costs 50 MP to summon and stays in battle for three turns, then unleashes Gaia’s Wrath — a powerful Earth magic attack that hits all enemies at once. Given that Gaia’s Wrath is Earth-element, it’s most useful against enemies that don’t share Titan’s immunity.
You also earn 6,000 Gil and 7,200 EXP for the fight. Defeating Titan contributes to the Sovereigns of the Planet trophy and achievement, which requires collecting all nine Espers in Final Fantasy Resonance.
The Gaia Hammer stays in your inventory and remains one of Lid’s better weapons at that point in the game. Equip it and move on.
Can You Come Back After Breaking the Sealing Stone?
Yes. Nothing about this is missable. The Esper’s Dwelling remains accessible in free-roam after the story ends, and you can challenge Titan at any time once you have the Gaia Hammer. If you reach the Colosseum and earn the hammer mid-story, you can break the stone immediately — you don’t have to wait for a specific chapter trigger.
The same applies if you finished the main story without getting Titan. Head to the Grandshelt Colosseum, clear the Fledgling League if you haven’t, grab the Gaia Hammer, and return to the Esper’s Dwelling. It all still works in post-game free-roam.
That said, getting Espers earlier is genuinely better. Titan’s Gaia’s Wrath comes in handy against groups of enemies in the mid-game. Don’t wait too long if you can help it. You need the Gaia Hammer and Lid in your active party. The Gaia Hammer is earned by winning Fledgling League Battle 5 at the Grandshelt Colosseum. Once you have it, travel to the Esper’s Dwelling in Grandshelt’s desert, approach the stone, and select the option to smash it.
Where is the Sealing Stone in Final Fantasy Resonance?
It’s in the desert area of the Kingdom of Grandshelt, east of Siren’s Tower. The area is called the Esper’s Dwelling. It can also be described as west of the Village of Kol depending on which direction you’re approaching from. A young man in Grandport Harbor gives you a tip about it and marks the area on your map.
What is the Gaia Hammer and where do I get it?
The Gaia Hammer is Lid’s unique weapon and the only tool that can break the Sealing Stone. It’s the first-clear reward for winning Fledgling League Battle 5 at the Grandshelt Colosseum. It cannot be bought, found in a chest, or dropped by enemies. The Colosseum opens in Chapter 4.
Does the Gaia Hammer get used up when you break the Sealing Stone?
No. The Gaia Hammer stays in your inventory after you smash the stone. You can equip it on Lid and use it as a regular weapon. It has 95 Physical Attack and 93 Magic Power, making it a solid mid-game weapon for her.
Can you break the Sealing Stone in Chapter 1?
No. The Sealing Stone cannot be broken during Chapter 1. The Colosseum doesn’t open until Chapter 4, and Lid doesn’t join until Chapter 2. You can find and examine the stone early, but you’ll have to come back much later in the game to actually break it.
What happens after you break the Sealing Stone?
Breaking it opens the entrance to the Esper’s Dwelling. You head inside and eventually face Titan, the Earth Esper, in a boss fight. Defeating Titan adds him to Fina’s summon roster. He can be called in battle for 50 MP and deals Earth magic damage to all enemies with his move Gaia’s Wrath.
What is Titan weak to in Final Fantasy Resonance?
Titan is immune to Earth damage — never use Earth attacks in this fight. Focus on non-Earth elemental magic like Wind, Water, or Lightning. Apply Protect buffs to your party and Deshell to Titan to make the fight go faster.
Do you need to talk to the NPC in Grandport Harbor first?
No, it’s not required. The young man in Grandport Harbor gives you a tip about the sealing boulder and marks the Esper’s Dwelling on your map — but you can go straight to the location without speaking to him. The conversation is helpful for finding the spot, but it’s not a prerequisite for breaking the stone.
Is the Sealing Stone missable in Final Fantasy Resonance?
No. The Sealing Stone and Titan are available in free-roam after the main story ends. You can go back at any point to earn the Gaia Hammer from the Colosseum and break the stone. None of the Espers, including Titan, are permanently missable.
Is Titan worth getting in Final Fantasy Resonance?
Yes. Titan is one of nine Espers and contributes to the Sovereigns of the Planet trophy and achievement for collecting them all. His Gaia’s Wrath AoE Earth attack is useful against groups of enemies, and having more Espers available gives Fina more summon options in tough fights. Getting him earlier rather than later means you get more use out of him during the main story chapters.
