What Are Visions in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Visions are crystallized essences of legendary heroes — both classic Final Fantasy characters and original characters from the Brave Exvius universe. When you equip a Vision to one of your party members, they gain access to that Vision’s skills, magic, stat bonuses, and a powerful unique cinematic attack called a Resonance.

Think of Visions as Final Fantasy Resonance’s version of a job system. Each one has a role — Commando, Breaker, Medic, Sentinel, Saboteur, or Synergist — that defines what it’s built to do in battle. You can only equip one Vision per character at a time, but abilities you’ve learned from a Vision stay with that character even after you swap to a different one, within an ability point budget.

You strengthen Visions through battle by earning Mastery Points (MRP), which raises a Vision’s Mastery Rank and unlocks more of its abilities. Separately, you can also Awaken Visions using Magicite to unlock stronger skills — but Magicite is limited, so choose wisely. Our Magicite Shards and Awakening guide covers that system in full.

Every Vision in the game is earnable through normal play. There is no DLC-exclusive content and nothing is permanently missable.

How to Find Visions — Sanctums of Light Explained

Most Visions — specifically the 16 legacy heroes — are found at Sanctums of Light, also called Vision Crystal Sanctums. These are special locations scattered across the world map in each region. When you enter a Sanctum, you experience a short story moment tied to that character’s original game, and the Vision is added to your collection.

Sanctums appear on your map as you reach each region. You don’t have to be at a specific story point to collect them — once a region is open, you can explore it and grab the Sanctums early. The key exceptions are Visions that need the airship (Chapter 5) or that are tied to side quests that unlock later.

The remaining 10 Visions — original Brave Exvius characters — are all unlocked through side quests in Chapters 5 through 7. These are optional but highly recommended, as they’re some of the most useful Visions for late-game builds.

All 26 Visions in Final Fantasy Resonance — Complete List by Chapter

Chapter 1 Visions — Kingdom of Grandshelt

Five Visions are available from the very start of the game in the Kingdom of Grandshelt. Two come through the main story automatically, and three require you to explore the region.

    Kingdom of Grandshelt
    • Tronn — Role: Breaker | Elements: Fire, Ice, Lightning — Unlocked automatically during the main story in the Town of Mitra. Check inside the cave near Rain’s house early in Chapter 1. One of your first two Visions and a strong early-game Breaker with elemental coverage.
    • Leah — Role: Medic | Elements: Recovery/Holy — Also unlocked automatically in the Town of Mitra alongside Tronn. She’s your dedicated healer Vision from the very beginning, with Cure and support magic that helps carry you through Chapter 1.
    • Warrior of Light — Role: Sentinel | Elements: Earth, Lightning, Light — Found at the Sanctum of WoL in the desert area of the Kingdom of Grandshelt, northwest of the Village of Kol. Represents the original Final Fantasy I. His earth, lightning, and light kit also includes abilities that protect allies — a natural fit for Rain.
    • Cloud — Role: Breaker | Elements: Lightning, Water — Found at the Sanctum of Cloud in the Grandport area of Grandshelt, southeast of the Cavern of Swords. Requires the chocobo to reach fully. Represents Final Fantasy VII. His abilities focus on critical damage and his iconic Cross-slash Resonance.
    • Terra — Role: Commando | Elements: Fire, Water, Ice — Found at the Sanctum of Terra near the Kolobos area, at the southwestern tip of the Grandshelt continent. Requires the chocobo. Represents Final Fantasy VI. Consistently high elemental magic damage across three elements makes her one of the most flexible early Commandos.

Chapter 2 Visions — Dirnado, the Continent of Wind

Three Visions become available when the story moves to Dirnado in Chapter 2. All three are found in Sanctums on the continent.

    Dirnado the Continent of Wind
    Dirnado the Continent of Wind
    • Zidane — Role: Saboteur | Elements: Wind — Found at the Sanctum of Zidane in central Dirnado, northwest of Dilmagia. Cross the two bridges after exiting Mt. Thunderclap. Represents Final Fantasy IX. His kit focuses on stealing items and sapping enemy vitality and speed. His Awakening 3 unlocks Treasure Hunter, which guarantees rare steals — highly valuable for Magicite farming.
    • Noctis — Role: Commando | Elements: (Physical/multi-element) — Found at the Sanctum of Noctis in eastern Dirnado. Represents Final Fantasy XV. Focused on versatile physical and elemental combat.
    • Onion Knight — Role: Commando | Elements: Fire, Ice, Lightning — Found at the Sanctum of Onion Knight on the southeastern tip of Dirnado, along an alternate path through Mt. Thunderclap. Represents Final Fantasy III. Commands fire, ice, and lightning — strong stagger potential and consistently reliable across elemental matchups.

Chapter 3 Visions — Olderion Federation

Three more Visions open up in Chapter 3 across the Olderion region.

    Olderion Federation
    Olderion Federation
    • Firion — Role: Breaker | Elements: Light, Lightning, Wind — Found at the Sanctum of Firion in central Olderion, north from the airship crash landing at the start of the chapter. Represents Final Fantasy II. His Resonance ability, Weaponsmaster, reflects his multi-weapon fighting style. Bladeblitz hits all enemies at once — solid for group encounters.
    • Squall — Role: Commando | Elements: (Physical-focused) — Found at the Sanctum of Squall in eastern Olderion, northeast of the main city near the second Ruby Fragment during the Ruby Cave quest. Represents Final Fantasy VIII. His damage scales the more standard attacks you use before unleashing his abilities — a build-up damage style that rewards patience.
    • Tidus — Role: Breaker | Elements: Wind, Water — Found at the Sanctum of Tidus in western Olderion, west of the Secluded Dwelling. Represents Final Fantasy X. His kit includes Haste, making him one of the better support-hybrid Visions in the mid-game. Wind and water coverage is useful against several mid-game boss types.

Chapter 4 Visions — Zoldaad Empire Territory

Three legacy hero Visions are available in Chapter 4’s region of Zoldaad.

    Zoldaad Empire Territory
    Zoldaad Empire Territory
    • Shantotto — Role: Commando | Elements: Lightning, Water, Dark — Found at the Sanctum of Shantotto in the northern section of the Zoldaad Empire region. Represents Final Fantasy XI. Repeated heavy casts of lightning, water, and dark magic. One of the strongest pure-damage Commandos in the roster for magic-focused builds.
    • Cecil — Role: Sentinel | Elements: Light, Dark — Found at the Sanctum of Cecil in central Zoldaad. Represents Final Fantasy IV. His dual-nature kit reflects both his Paladin and Dark Knight history — light and dark elemental attacks combined with defensive and healing options in one Vision slot.
    • Y’shtola — Role: Synergist/Medic | Elements: Fire, Ice — Found at the Sanctum of Y’shtola in southeastern Zoldaad, directly southeast of the Weapons Factory. Represents Final Fantasy XIV. She staggers enemies with fire and ice spells, restores HP, and grows stronger as magic variety increases. A strong hybrid option for Fina or other magic-leaning characters.

Chapter 5 Visions — Airship Required (Mysidia and Grandshelt Return)

Once you unlock the airship in Chapter 5, a whole new wave of Visions opens up. Five of these require the airship to reach their Sanctums or locations. This is the largest single-chapter Vision release in the game.

    Mysidia
    Mysidia
    • Sephiroth — Role: Commando | Elements: (Dark/multi-element) — Found at Whirlpool Hollow, between Grandshelt’s two islands. Requires the airship to reach. Recommended level 45. You must defeat Sephiroth in battle before he joins you as a Vision — the only Vision in the game with this requirement. He’s a challenging fight, so come prepared. Represents Final Fantasy VII.
    • Clive — Role: Breaker | Elements: Fire, Wind — Found at the Sanctum of Clive back in the Kingdom of Grandshelt, southwest of Mitra. Requires the airship to access that part of Grandshelt. Represents Final Fantasy XVI. Built around staggering enemies and dealing heavy fire and wind-based physical damage.
    • Vaan — Role: Breaker | Elements: (Physical/multi) — Found at the Sanctum of Vaan in the northern reaches of Mysidia, the Uncharted Land. Airship required. Represents Final Fantasy XII.
    • Bartz — Role: (Multi-role mimic) | Elements: (Various) — Found at the Sanctum of Bartz in the northern edge of Mysidia. Airship required. Represents Final Fantasy V. His mimic-style kit reflects his Blue Mage and Job-mastering background from the original game.
    • Lightning — Role: Breaker | Elements: Ice, Lightning — Found at the Sanctum of Lightning in Mysidia, the Uncharted Land. Airship required. Represents Final Fantasy XIII. Her kit is particularly focused on staggering enemies, with abilities that further increase her effectiveness in that area. Strong synergy with stagger-heavy builds.

Chapter 5 Side Quest Visions — Brave Exvius Characters

Four original Brave Exvius characters become available through side quests during Chapter 5. These are some of the most powerful late-game Visions in the game and worth prioritizing.

    Brave Exvius Characters
    Brave Exvius Characters
    • Camille — Role: Commando | Elements: Earth, Water — Complete the side quest “The Call from Beyond” in Zoldaad, the Imperial Capital during Chapter 5.
    • Wilhelm — Role: Sentinel | Elements: Earth, Water — Complete the side quest “O General! My General!” in Zoldaad Castle Plaza during Chapter 5. This quest becomes available right after completing “The Call from Beyond.”
    • Aileen — Role: Breaker | Elements: Earth, Ice — Complete the side quest “Forger of Wills” in Dilmagia, the Machinopolis during Chapter 5. Note: Aileen the Vision is a different unlock from Aileen the party member — Aileen the party member joins automatically in the story.
    • Victoria — Role: Commando | Elements: Ice, Wind, Dark — Complete the side quest “Victoria Revivified” in Mysidia, the Magiapolis during Chapter 5. Start by completing the delivery to Sunioo first, then the quest becomes available.

    Chapter 6 Vision — Amelia

    • Amelia — Role: Saboteur | Elements: Earth, Fire — Complete the side quest “Errand’s End” in Zoldaad, the Imperial Capital during Chapter 6. Note: You must first complete the “Token Legacy” side quest, which is triggered by sleeping in an inn during Chapter 5 or 6. That unlocks Errand’s End as a follow-up quest.

Chapter 7 Visions — Charlotte and Ayaka

    Charlotte and Ayaka

The final two Visions are both unlocked through side quests in Chapter 7 — one back in the familiar Kingdom of Grandshelt and one in the new Kingdom of Pharm region.

    • Charlotte — Role: Sentinel | Elements: Ice, Water — Complete the side quest “The Shield of the Weak” in Grandport Harbor, Kingdom of Grandshelt during Chapter 7. A defensive Sentinel with ice and water coverage.
    • Ayaka — Role: Medic | Elements: Recovery — Complete the side quest “The Admirable Apprentice” in the Town of Sian, Kingdom of Pharm during Chapter 7. A dedicated healing Vision — one of the strongest Medic options in the entire roster for late-game content.

The Six Vision Roles — What Each One Does

Every Vision has a role that defines its main job in battle. Understanding roles helps you pair Visions with the right party members. Here’s what each one means:

    • Commando — Pure damage dealer. Excels at hitting hard and fast. Best for party members whose stats lean toward offense. Shantotto, Terra, Cloud, and Noctis all fall here.
    • Breaker — Specializes in reducing the enemy stagger gauge. Breaking stagger triggers powerful bonus phases. Tronn, Warrior of Light, Firion, Lightning, and Clive are all Breakers. Critical for high-difficulty content.
    • Medic — Healing and support. Leah and Ayaka are your dedicated Medics. Best on Fina who already leans into the healer role, or on any character you want to double as party recovery.
    • Sentinel — Defensive protection. Absorbs damage and protects allies. Warrior of Light, Cecil, Wilhelm, and Charlotte fill this role. Pair with Rain who is naturally a Sentinel himself — their skills stack well.
    • Saboteur — Debuffs and disrupts enemies. Zidane and Amelia are Saboteurs. They weaken enemies, apply status effects, and slow them down. The Saboteur role pairs well with Commandos to maximize damage windows.
    • Synergist — Buffs allies. Y’shtola is the key Synergist Vision, boosting your party’s stats and elemental power. Pairs well with damage-focused characters to amplify their output.

    Tips for Collecting All Visions

    • Grab Sanctums as you enter each region. Most Visions are found in Sanctums on the world map. When you arrive in a new area, explore the edges of the map before pushing the main story forward. Sanctums are marked and easy to spot.
    • Don’t skip side quests in Chapters 5–7. Ten of the 26 Visions come from side quests, and the majority of those land in Chapter 5. These quests don’t take long but are easy to miss if you tunnel-vision the main story.
    • Get the chocobo early in Chapter 1. Cloud and Terra both require the chocobo to reach their Sanctums. Get it as soon as it becomes available and circle back to collect them before leaving Grandshelt.
    • Amelia requires a chain of quests. Her “Errand’s End” quest only appears after completing “Token Legacy,” which is triggered by sleeping in an inn. Don’t overlook that trigger or you’ll find the quest missing.
    • Sephiroth requires a boss fight at level 45. He’s the only Vision who fights back. Make sure your party is strong enough before flying to Whirlpool Hollow. If you get there too early, come back after leveling up more.
    • Nothing is permanently missable. Free-roam after the story ends lets you go back for any Vision you missed. So if you reach endgame without all 26, don’t worry — just revisit the relevant Sanctums and complete the remaining side quests.

For tips on how to get the most out of your Visions in battle, check out our Final Fantasy Resonance tips and tricks guide. And if you’re deep in Grandshelt content and haven’t broken the Sealing Stone yet, our Sealing Stone guide walks you through getting Titan — the Earth Esper that pairs naturally with the Earth-element Visions like Warrior of Light.

Where to Get Final Fantasy Resonance

Final Fantasy Resonance is available now on all platforms. Check it out on the official Square Enix website, on Steam, the PlayStation Store, or the Xbox Store. The free demo includes Chapter 1, giving you access to your first five Visions.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How many Visions are there in Final Fantasy Resonance?

There are 26 Visions in total — 16 legacy heroes representing each numbered Final Fantasy game from I through XVI, and 10 original characters from the Brave Exvius side of the story.

Are any Visions missable in Final Fantasy Resonance?

No. None of the 26 Visions are permanently missable. The game offers full free-roam after the main story ends, and all Sanctums and side quests remain available. However, collecting them as you go makes the mid-game noticeably easier.

What is the Will Crystallized trophy in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Will Crystallized is a trophy and achievement you unlock by collecting all 26 Visions. It’s one of the more time-consuming collectible trophies, as several Visions are tied to Chapter 5–7 side quests that require specific quest chains to trigger.

Which Vision is the best in Final Fantasy Resonance?

It depends on your party setup. For raw damage, Shantotto (Commando, lightning/water/dark) and Terra (Commando, fire/water/ice) are consistently strong. For support builds, Ayaka is the top Medic. For stagger-focused play, Lightning, Clive, and Tronn are all excellent Breakers. Check our best settings guide for more build optimisation tips.

Can you use two copies of the same Vision on different characters?

Yes. Each party member has their own Vision slot, and the same Vision can be equipped by multiple characters simultaneously. Each character also tracks their own separate Mastery Rank with each Vision.

What is a Resonance attack in Final Fantasy Resonance?

A Resonance is a powerful, Vision-specific cinematic attack that triggers during a Sweeping Stagger — when you stagger all enemies at once. Each Vision has its own unique Resonance with its own animation. Only one Resonance can fire per Sweeping Stagger, so pick the one that fits the fight.

Does it matter which Vision I equip on which character?

Yes, a lot. Each character has their own natural role — Rain is a Sentinel, Fina is a Medic — and pairing a Vision that shares or complements that role amplifies their effectiveness. For example, Warrior of Light on Rain stacks two Sentinel kits together. That said, the game allows full freedom to mix and match, so experimenting is encouraged.

Do I need the airship to get all Visions?

Yes, for five of them. Clive, Vaan, Bartz, Lightning, and Sephiroth all require the airship, which unlocks in Chapter 5. You cannot reach their Sanctums or Sephiroth’s location (Whirlpool Hollow) without it.

How do I get Sephiroth as a Vision in Final Fantasy Resonance?

Fly to Whirlpool Hollow between Grandshelt’s two islands using the airship in Chapter 5. The recommended level is 45. You must defeat Sephiroth in battle before he becomes a Vision — he’s the only one in the game that requires a boss fight to unlock.

What is the difference between Mastery Rank and Awakening Level for Visions?

They are two completely separate systems. Mastery Rank goes up by earning Mastery Points (MRP) through combat with a Vision equipped — it unlocks more of that Vision’s abilities over time. Awakening Level goes up by spending Magicite at the Moogle of Light in Grandport — it unlocks stronger skills that aren’t available at the base level. One does not affect the other. Our Magicite guide explains the Awakening system in detail.

What happens to skills I learned from a Vision if I switch to a different one?

Skills you’ve learned stay with that character permanently, even after switching Visions. You can still equip those learned abilities from within an ability point budget, meaning you can mix skills from multiple Visions on the same character. This is one of the most powerful parts of the system — building hybrid kits by combining the best skills from different Visions.
