Sony just dropped the full PlayStation Plus Monthly Games lineup for September 2026, and honestly? It’s a pretty solid mix. Whether you’re into picking off Nazis with a bolt-action rifle, grinding through baseball seasons, going full chaos mode with your mates, or losing yourself in a retro JRPG — this month has something for everyone. All four games go live on September 1 and stay claimable until October 5, so you’ve got about a month before they rotate out.
Before anything else — if you haven’t grabbed August’s PS Plus games yet (Dying Light 2 Stay Human: Reloaded Edition, Big Walk, and Signalis), you’ve only got until August 31 to do that. Don’t sleep on it.
PlayStation Plus September 2026 Free Games List
- Sniper Elite: Resistance — PS5, PS4
- MLB The Show 26 — PS5 only
- Wobbly Life — PS5, PS4
- Chained Echoes — PS4
Three of these were leaked ahead of the announcement, but MLB The Show 26 was the surprise addition that nobody saw coming — and it’s easily the biggest title in this month’s batch. Let’s break each one down.
Sniper Elite: Resistance — The Main Event
If you’ve never touched the Sniper Elite series, now’s the time to fix that. Sniper Elite: Resistance dropped back in January 2025 and puts you behind enemy lines in occupied France during World War II. You’re not playing as the series’ usual protagonist Karl Fairburne this time — instead, you step into the boots of Harry Hawker, Karl’s longtime co-op partner, who’s running his own parallel mission through 1944 France.
The whole thing runs alongside the events of Sniper Elite 5, so if you’ve played that one, there’s some cool context here. But even if you haven’t, Resistance is a fully standalone experience with its own complete campaign and a bunch of large, open mission areas that let you approach objectives however you want.
What Makes It Worth Playing
The core loop is exactly what it sounds like — you’re a sniper, so you’re spending a lot of time lining up long-range shots, using wind direction and distance to drop enemies before they even hear the shot. But the game doesn’t lock you into playing it one way. You can go full stealth, ghost through entire levels without a kill, use environmental distractions, or just go loud if things fall apart. The open level design means replaying missions with a different approach actually feels different.
The signature X-ray kill cam is back — and yes, it’s still grotesquely satisfying. Bones deflecting bullets and ripping new paths through enemy bodies in slow motion never gets old. SMGs and pistols now trigger their own kill cams too, which is a nice touch for when you need to go close quarters.
On top of the single-player campaign, the full thing supports co-op, and the fan-favourite Axis Invasion mode returns — where another player can literally invade your campaign as an enemy sniper and hunt you down. That mode alone is worth experiencing if you’ve never tried it.
It’s not a massive graphical leap over Sniper Elite 5 — some reviews have noted it feels like a premium expansion more than a ground-up sequel — but as a free PS Plus game? There’s a lot of content here and it’s genuinely fun to play.
If you enjoy tactical shooters and open-ended mission design, you might also want to check out what’s coming down the pipeline — Exodus is shaping up to be one of the more interesting games on the horizon, blending narrative choice with action in a very different setting.
MLB The Show 26 — The Big Surprise
This one caught pretty much everyone off guard. MLB The Show 26 is a first-party Sony title developed by San Diego Studio, and it only launched back in March 2026 — making it one of the fastest turnarounds from release to PS Plus in recent memory. Six months. That’s it. For a game that retails at full price and is still receiving regular content updates, getting it free is actually a solid deal.
If you’re even remotely a baseball fan, or you just want a deep sports game to sink time into as the real MLB regular season winds down, this is a great time to dive in. Road to the Show lets you build your player from the ground up, and this year’s entry adds a new path through the MLB Draft Combine with additional college teams involved — so the journey to the majors feels a bit more fleshed out than before.
What’s New in MLB The Show 26
- Diamond Dynasty is back — build your dream squad with baseball legends from multiple eras and go up against other players
- New and enhanced game modes with evolved features that build on last year’s foundation
- New stadium effects that make games feel more cinematic and atmosphere-heavy
- Authentic true-to-life gameplay that the series has always been known for, now refined further
Worth noting — MLB The Show 26 is PS5 only, so PS4 players won’t be able to grab this one. Also, there’s a Jump Start Bundle available for PS Plus members from September 1 through October 6, giving you a head start if you want to jump into Diamond Dynasty without grinding from zero.
Wobbly Life — Grab Your Friends
Wobbly Life is the chaotic co-op wildcard of the bunch, developed by RubberBandGames. It’s a colourful, physics-based open-world sandbox set on an island where you — fresh out of your nan’s house and told to go get a job — explore, take on missions, and generally cause as much havoc as possible.
You can play it solo, but that’s kind of missing the point. The game supports up to four players through online or local split-screen co-op, and that’s where the real fun kicks in. Physics-based games are always funnier when someone else is watching you faceplant off a cliff.
What You Can Do in Wobbly Life
- Explore caves, mountains, and all sorts of locations across the open-world island
- Take on mini-games, puzzles, story missions, and hidden secrets scattered throughout the map
- Jump into Arcade mode for structured activities like Hide & Seek, Trash Zone, Wobble Run, and Sandbox
- Play online or in split-screen — local co-op being included is genuinely rare these days and worth appreciating
It’s not the deepest game in the lineup, but as something to boot up with a friend on a lazy weekend, it absolutely delivers. Available on both PS5 and PS4.
Chained Echoes — The Hidden Gem You Probably Slept On
Okay, real talk — Chained Echoes might be the most underrated game in this entire lineup when it comes to the kind of depth it offers. Released back in December 2022, it was developed almost entirely by one person — Matthias Linda — and published by Deck13. For a solo project, the scope of this thing is genuinely impressive.
It’s a JRPG set on the vast continent of Valandis, where three kingdoms — Taryn, Gravos, and Escanya — have been at war for generations. You follow a group of heroes who are trying to end that war, travelling through all sorts of diverse environments including wind-swept plateaus, exotic archipelagos, sunken cities, and forgotten dungeons. The story runs somewhere between 30 and 40 hours depending on how thorough you are.
What Makes Chained Echoes Stand Out
The biggest hook is its combat system. It’s turn-based, but it’s faster and more demanding than a lot of classic JRPGs — there’s an Overdrive bar mechanic that punishes you for spamming the same moves and rewards you for mixing things up. It keeps fights active and strategic without ever dragging.
The visual style is pure 16-bit nostalgia — clearly inspired by SNES-era games like Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger, but with its own identity. And the setting mashes together swords and magic with piloted mech suits, which is a wild combo that somehow completely works in the context of the world they’ve built.
- Turn-based combat with a dynamic Overdrive system that keeps battles fresh
- 30-40 hour story-driven campaign with a proper narrative through-line
- 16-bit pixel art style with a SNES-era feel and tight sprite work
- Fantasy world with mechs, dragons, swords, and magic all coexisting
- Holds an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on Steam with over 89% positive reviews from thousands of players
It holds a 91 on Metacritic for PC, which puts it comfortably in “must-play” territory. The fact that it’s been somewhat overlooked compared to bigger-budget RPGs just means this PS Plus drop is a legit opportunity for a lot of players to finally give it a shot. Only available on PS4 through PS Plus.
If you’re in the middle of following all the big reveals from the gaming world lately, there are some interesting upcoming titles on the radar — LEGO Skylines was just announced at Gamescom 2026 and looks like something worth keeping an eye on alongside everything else dropping in the coming months.
How Long Are the September 2026 PS Plus Games Available?
All four games are available to claim from September 1 through October 5, 2026. Once you add them to your library they’re yours to keep and play as long as your PS Plus subscription is active. The MLB The Show 26 Jump Start Bundle has a slightly different window, running until October 6.
Just remember — you don’t need to download them immediately, just claim them before the deadline and they’ll sit in your library ready to install whenever you want.
Is September 2026 a Good Month for PS Plus?
Honestly, yeah — it’s a step above average. MLB The Show 26 being on here this early in its lifecycle is the headline story and makes the month look a lot stronger on paper. Sniper Elite: Resistance is a genuinely fun tactical shooter with plenty of content. Chained Echoes is a hidden gem that a lot of RPG fans have never touched. And Wobbly Life gives you something easy and chaotic to enjoy with friends.
There’s something for basically every type of gamer here, which isn’t always the case with these monthly drops. If you’re a PS Plus subscriber, there’s no reason not to claim all four before they’re gone.
