Pokemon GO Falinks Super Mega Raid Day Guide — Mega Falinks Debut, Shiny Odds, Free Raid Passes, and More
Mark your calendar and start stacking your best Fighting-type counters — Mega Falinks is making its Pokemon GO debut on Saturday, May 23, 2026, and Niantic has now dropped all the official details. Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of the three-hour event window, from the free Raid Passes to the paid ticket bonuses to the Mega Energy system change rolling out alongside it.

Event Details at a Glance
The Falinks Super Mega Raid Day runs on Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM local time. That’s a tight three-hour window, so planning your route to nearby Gyms in advance is worth doing — Super Mega Raids don’t appear at every Gym and tend to cluster in parks and other community-friendly locations. Niantic has a new web-based map at pokemongo.com/map that lets you filter for Gyms likely to host Super Mega Raids during events, including those that are currently active, so use that to scope out your area ahead of time.
Free Bonuses for All Players
Even if you’re not spending a cent on the event, there’s solid value available just from showing up:
The Remote Raid Pass limit increases to 20 starting Friday, May 22 at 5:00 PM PDT through Saturday, May 23 at 8:00 PM PDT — that extended window lets remote raiders prepare and coordinate well before the event starts. Spinning Photo Discs at Gyms during the event earns you up to six free Raid Passes for the day. And all participants have a boosted chance of encountering a Shiny Falinks after a successful Super Mega Raid, which is the obvious main draw for collectors who’ve been sitting on regular Falinks for a while.
There’s also free Timed Research available during the event. Completing those tasks earns you a Premium Battle Pass and an encounter with Mawile — a nice little bonus on the side, just don’t let the research expire without claiming your rewards.
Paid Ticket — Is It Worth It?
The optional event ticket is $4.99 and is available in-game until 5:00 PM local time on May 23. It’s not a pre-event purchase so you technically have the whole event window to decide whether you want it, but if you’re planning to raid heavily, grabbing it early makes more sense.
Ticket bonuses include: up to 14 total Raid Passes from spinning Gym Photo Discs (compared to the six for free players), an increased chance of getting Rare Candy XL from Raid Battles, and an additional 5,000 XP and 5,000 Stardust on top of standard Super Mega Raid rewards. All bonuses are only active during the 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM event window, so they don’t carry over after the event ends.
There’s also a separately available Ultra Ticket Box for $4.99 which bundles the event ticket together with a bonus Premium Battle Pass at no extra cost. If you’re buying the ticket anyway, the Ultra Ticket Box is clearly the better value — same price, one extra Premium Battle Pass included. You can find it in the Pokemon GO Web Store.
One more detail: you can purchase and gift tickets to Pokemon GO friends you’ve reached Great Friends status or higher with. Purchases are non-refundable, and tickets can’t be bought using PokeCoins — it’s real currency only.
Best Counters for Mega Falinks
Mega Falinks is a pure Fighting-type Pokemon, which means it’s weak to Fairy, Flying, and Psychic-type attacks. Super Mega Raids are generally a step up in difficulty from standard Mega Raids, so you’ll want a full group and you’ll want to be bringing strong counters rather than just whatever’s in your box.
Top options to consider: Mega Gardevoir and Togekiss for Fairy coverage, Mega Pidgeot and Shadow Moltres for Flying, and Mewtwo, Galarian Articuno, or Mega Alakazam for Psychic. Shadow versions of any of these — where available — will push your damage output even higher. If you’ve been holding off on powering up a Psychic attacker, Mega Falinks Super Mega Raid Day is a reasonable occasion to do it.
Keep in mind that coordinating with other local trainers is going to matter more than usual here. Super Mega Raids are designed around teamwork and aren’t necessarily soloable the way lower-tier raids can sometimes be. Check local Pokemon GO Discord servers or community Facebook groups ahead of time to see if anyone’s organizing a meetup near your area.
Mega Energy System Change Launching Alongside the Event
Beyond the Raid Day itself, Niantic is rolling out a meaningful update to how Mega Energy works in the game, timed to coincide with Falinks Super Mega Raid Day. Starting May 23, players will be able to use Mega Energy to directly increase a Pokemon’s Mega Level at any level — not just at the initial evolution stage. The cost of doing this is dynamic: the more times you’ve already Mega Evolved a particular Pokemon, the less Mega Energy it takes to bump its Mega Level up further.
In practice this rewards consistent players who’ve been repeatedly Mega Evolving their core team members. If you’ve been Mega Evolving your Gardevoir or Gengar every chance you get, those are the Pokemon that will benefit most from cheaper level-up costs. The change also gives a reason to actually engage with the Mega Level system more actively rather than treating it as a passive milestone that slowly ticks up in the background.
Niantic has signalled that more Mega Evolution updates are coming throughout 2026, so this appears to be part of an ongoing effort to make the mechanic more engaging and rewarding rather than a one-off tweak.
What Comes After: GO Fest 2026
Falinks Super Mega Raid Day slots in just ahead of Pokemon GO Fest 2026, whose in-person events are set to start rolling out shortly after. Niantic is keeping the lid on specifics for now, but the rumour that’s gotten the most traction in the community is that Mega Mewtwo X and Mega Mewtwo Y could finally make their Pokemon GO debut at GO Fest 2026.
That would be a massive deal. Mega Mewtwo X and Y were introduced alongside the very first wave of Mega Evolutions back in 2013 in Pokemon X and Y, and their absence from Pokemon GO despite six years of Mega Evolution additions to the game has been a running frustration for dedicated players. Whether the rumours pan out is still unconfirmed, but the timing of GO Fest feels like the right occasion for Niantic to finally pull that trigger.
There’s also the ongoing integration of Mega Evolutions from Pokemon Legends: Z-A — which introduced over 40 new Mega forms to the franchise last year — to look forward to as a longer-term project. Niantic has been adding them gradually, with Mega Dragonite, Mega Victreebel, and Mega Malamar already in the game. Mega Falinks is one of those Legends: Z-A additions, which means there’s a large backlog of new Mega forms still to come over the next year or two.
It’s a busy month for gaming in general — EA Sports UFC 6 just officially announced its June 19 release date with Alex Pereira and Max Holloway as cover athletes, and Slay the Spire 2’s 0.104.0 patch dropped a significant difficulty rebalance this week. But for Pokemon GO players, May 23 is the date to clear the afternoon for.
