Looking for Rogue Mega Dragonite in Pokémon Legends Z-A? Our complete guide shows you exactly how to reach this rooftop boss in Vert Sector 3 during Main Mission 32.
Main Mission 32 in Pokémon Legends: Z-A sends you on a hunt for Rogue Mega Dragonite, and if you’re scratching your head wondering where this Dragon-type powerhouse is hiding, you’re not alone. Vert Sector 3 can be a maze of rooftops and pathways, and finding the right route to Dragonite requires navigating some tricky platforming sections.
Here’s what makes this encounter trickier than most: Dragonite isn’t just chilling on ground level. Like many other Rogue bosses in the game, this one’s perched on a rooftop, which means you’ll need to locate a Holovator (the game’s futuristic elevator system) and do some climbing to reach it.
Let me walk you through the exact steps so you can get to this battle without wasting time wandering around Vert Sector 3.
Before we dive into directions, let’s talk strategy. When Dragonite Mega Evolves, it becomes a Dragon/Flying-type, which changes how you should approach the battle.
Type weaknesses you can exploit:
Ice-type attacks are your best bet here if you want to deal maximum damage. If you’ve been building up your team with some strong Pokémon, now’s the time to bring them out. Consider checking out how to get Ice Beam if you haven’t already—it’s incredibly useful for this fight.
The easiest way to begin your journey is by fast traveling to Wild Zone 2. This puts you right near the path you need to take. If you haven’t unlocked fast travel yet, make your way to the Wild Zone 2 entrance gate in Vert Sector 3.

Step 1: Stand directly in front of the Wild Zone 2 entrance gate.
Step 2: Turn to your right and walk until you spot the first staircase. Head up those stairs immediately.
Step 3: As soon as you reach the top of the stairs, turn left. Walk forward a short distance, and you’ll notice a side area branching off to your right.

Step 4: Here’s where you’ll encounter some of that annoying purple sludge blocking your path. To clear it, use any Water-type move from your Pokémon. Interestingly, certain Psychic-type moves like Confusion also work to wash away the gunk, though others (like Psybeam) won’t do the trick. If you’re dealing with purple sludge elsewhere in the game, check out our complete guide on removing vines and thorns.
Step 5: Once the sludge is gone, you’ll see the yellow Holovator to your right. Take it up to the rooftops.

Pro tip: While you’re in this area, you might spot some Pokémon worth catching for easy XP. Don’t feel rushed—it’s always worth building up your team when you get the chance.
Once the elevator drops you off on the rooftop, the real platforming begins:
Step 1: Immediately spin around 180 degrees. You should see some scaffolding you can climb.

Step 2: Before or after climbing, watch out for an Alpha Dedenne that might be lurking nearby. Alpha Pokémon are tougher than their regular counterparts, so either battle it or sneak past if you’re trying to conserve resources.
Step 3: After dealing with the Alpha (or avoiding it), continue walking along the rooftop path until you reach a platform edge.

Step 4: Jump down from this platform to reach the lower building to the north. From this vantage point, Dragonite should be visible in the distance.
Step 5: Head straight toward Dragonite. There are no more detours from here—just a straight shot to your battle with Taunie and her Rogue Mega Dragonite.
Once you reach Dragonite, you’ll face off against Taunie in what can be a challenging battle if you’re not prepared. Here are some additional tips:
Key strategies:
Mega Dragonite hits hard with both Dragon and Flying-type attacks, so make sure your team can withstand some punishment. Having a tanky Pokémon with Protect can also help you survive its stronger moves.
Honestly, Vert Sector 3 might be one of the more frustrating areas in Pokémon Legends: Z-A when it comes to navigation. The rooftop sections aren’t always clearly marked, and the game doesn’t hold your hand when it comes to finding these hidden Holovators.
What makes the Dragonite location particularly tricky is that the elevator entrance is tucked behind that purple sludge barrier, which many players might not think to clear right away. The game expects you to experiment with different move types to figure out what works—it’s part of the exploration charm, but it can definitely slow you down during Main Mission 32.

Final Thoughts
Finding Rogue Mega Dragonite doesn’t have to be a headache once you know the route. The key is starting from Wild Zone 2, clearing that purple sludge with the right move type, and following the rooftop path carefully. With the right team composition and some Ice-type moves in your arsenal, you’ll take down this Rogue boss and continue progressing through Main Mission 32.
Good luck, trainer!
