Pokemon Scarlet and Violet haven’t had a whole lot going on lately — the game has been in maintenance mode for a while as attention shifts toward Pokemon Winds and Waves and Pokemon Champions. But the Summer 2026 event just quietly dropped something genuinely useful for collectors and competitive players, and it runs until August 6, 2026. If you’ve been putting off getting a shiny Basculegion or Milotic, now is the time to stop procrastinating.

Here’s everything happening in the event, who it’s for, what the catch is, and how to squeeze more time out of it even after the official end date.

Event Overview — What’s Actually Running Right Now

The Summer 2026 event in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is a Water-type themed package with two components running simultaneously:

    • 7-Star Tera Raid Battle — Dragon Tera Type Magikarp (the Unrivaled) with the Mightiest Mark
    • Water-Type Mass Outbreaks — boosted shiny odds and special Marks across Paldea, Kitakami, and the Terarium

Both run from July 16 at 5:00 PM PDT through August 6 at 4:59 PM PDT. To access the event, go to the X menu, open Poké Portal, select Mystery Gift, then Check Poké Portal News. Make sure you have the latest update data downloaded.

Full Mass Outbreak Event List — Every Pokemon and Every Mark

The Mass Outbreaks are spread across all three maps in the game. Here’s the complete breakdown:

Around Casseroya Lake (Paldea, no DLC required)

    • Dondozo — Rowdy Mark (Title: “The Rowdy”)
    • Tatsugiri (Curly, Droopy, and Stretchy Forms) — Crafty Mark (Title: “The Opportunist”)
    • Veluza — Ferocious Mark (Title: “The Rampaging”)

    Paldea Region (no DLC required)

    • Psyduck — Absent-Minded Mark (Title: “The Spacey”)
    • Slowpoke — Zoned-Out Mark (Title: “The Daydreamer”)

Kitakami (requires The Teal Mask DLC)

    • Feebas — Prideful Mark (Title: “The Arrogant”)
    • White-Striped Basculin — Ferocious Mark (Title: “The Rampaging”)

Blueberry Academy Terarium (requires The Indigo Disk DLC)

    • Lapras — Intellectual Mark (Title: “The Scholar”)

All of the above Pokemon have a boosted chance of being Shiny and appearing with their respective event Marks during this period.

The 7-Star Magikarp Raid — Mightiest Mark Explained

The 7-Star Tera Raid this event is dedicated to a Dragon Tera Type Magikarp carrying the Mightiest Mark (Title: “The Unrivaled”). The Mightiest Mark is only obtainable from 7-Star Tera Raids — it cannot be found on wild Pokemon or obtained by any other means. Every Magikarp caught in this Raid will always have the mark, so there’s no RNG involved — you just need to participate and catch it.

Even if you don’t care about Gyarados in your collection right now, farming this raid is still worthwhile for the rare items it drops. 7-Star Raids are one of the better sources of Herba Mystica and other high-value crafting materials, so running it multiple times even after catching one is worth the time.

Why Basculin and Feebas Are Such a Big Deal

This is where the event gets genuinely exciting for collectors. Both White-Stripe Basculin and Feebas are two of the rarest Mass Outbreak spawns in all of Scarlet and Violet under normal circumstances.

White-Stripe Basculin in particular is only available in one specific location in Kitakami — a lake-like area near the Timeless Woods. Even with date-skipping on the Switch or Switch 2, cycling through the calendar dozens of times can go by without a single Mass Outbreak for either Pokemon appearing. Most players who own a shiny or Marked Basculegion got it from Pokemon Legends: Arceus, where it was far more accessible, or got extremely lucky in Kitakami.

This event bypasses all of that completely. Both Feebas and White-Stripe Basculin are guaranteed Mass Outbreak spawns that change daily, available every day through August 6. Combine that with boosted shiny odds, the specific event Marks (Ferocious Mark on Basculin, Prideful Mark on Feebas), and the ability to further stack odds with Sandwiches, and this is a one-time window to get Pokemon that normally take weeks of date-skipping and a lot of luck to find.

How to Use Sandwiches to Boost Your Odds

You can significantly improve both your shiny chances and your odds of catching Marked Pokemon by making Sandwiches before you head into the outbreak. The relevant Sandwich powers for this event are:

    • Sparkling Power (Water) — increases the shiny rate for Water-type Pokemon
    • Title Power (Water) — increases the chance of catching Water-type Pokemon with Marks
    • Encounter Power (Water) — boosts the rate of Water-type Pokemon encounters in the outbreak

You can combine Sparkling and Title Power in a single Sandwich to hunt for a shiny and a Marked Pokemon at the same time. Given that both Basculin and Feebas are rare under normal conditions, using Sandwiches every hunt session is strongly recommended — especially if you only have a few days left in the event window.

The “Catch” — You Need the DLC

Here’s the part the headline is referring to. Feebas and White-Stripe Basculin both appear exclusively in Kitakami, which is locked behind The Teal Mask DLC. If you don’t own that expansion, neither Pokemon will appear for you during this event. The same applies to Lapras in the Terarium, which requires The Indigo Disk DLC.

The Casseroya Lake outbreaks and the base Paldea Pokemon (Psyduck, Slowpoke) are available without any DLC, as is the Magikarp Raid — so there’s still plenty to do if you only own the base game. But the headline Pokemon of the event, Feebas and Basculin, are Teal Mask exclusives. Worth knowing before you go looking and wonder why they’re not showing up.

How to Evolve Basculin into Basculegion and Feebas into Milotic

Getting the shiny or Marked version is only half the job — both Pokemon have unconventional evolution methods that trip people up.

Basculin into Basculegion: Your White-Stripe Basculin needs to accumulate at least 294 points of recoil damage without fainting in the process. Moves like Wave Crash deal recoil, so head into battles against wild Pokemon and keep using recoil moves — just don’t let it faint, or the counter resets. Once the threshold is met, level Basculin up once and it evolves into Basculegion.

Feebas into Milotic: Feebas requires a trade while holding a Prism Scale, which is the only way to evolve it in Scarlet and Violet. You’ll need to trade with another player locally or online — it doesn’t matter which version they’re on. As soon as the trade is complete, Feebas evolves into Milotic. You can trade back immediately afterwards if you’re borrowing a friend’s account.

Why These Pokemon Matter Beyond the Dex

Both of these evolutions are genuinely useful beyond just filling out your collection.

Basculegion is one of the stronger Pokemon available in Pokemon Champions right now, and a Marked one carries its title directly into competitive formats — so a Ferocious Mark Basculegion you catch this event is directly transferable to your Champions roster via Pokemon Home once fully evolved.

Milotic is a mainstay counter to Incineroar and other Intimidate users thanks to its Competitive ability, which doubles Special Attack every time one of its stats is lowered. It’s a VGC staple, and this event gives you a clean, efficient way to get one with a Mark attached. Milotic is also notable as the only Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A that requires a trade to obtain — so catching Feebas in Scarlet and Violet and evolving it there is actually the cleaner route before transferring via Home.

How to Extend the Event Past August 6

Here’s a trick that’s worth knowing. The event officially ends on August 6 at 4:59 PM PDT — but you can effectively extend it beyond that date by simply not connecting your game to the internet after the deadline. As long as you stay offline, the outbreak will continue appearing in your game. Your Switch or Switch 2 can still be on and running, you just can’t hit any online features that would force a server check and update the event status.

This is useful if you’re close to getting a shiny or Marked Basculin or Feebas but haven’t landed one yet when August 6 rolls around — staying offline buys you extra time to keep hunting in the same session.
