Flaming Meteor is hands down one of the most devastating area damage Mystic Skills in Where Winds Meet. The problem? Most players have no idea how to unlock it. The process isn’t super complicated once you know what you’re doing, but the game doesn’t exactly spell it out for you.
This guide breaks down everything you need to know about unlocking the Flaming Meteor Skill—where to go, what to do, and some helpful tips to make the process smoother.
Important: You’ll need 60 Vitality to equip Flaming Meteor once you unlock it. If your Vitality stat is too low, you won’t be able to use it even after learning it. Check our Vitality guide and how to increase Constitution to boost your stats.

What Does Flaming Meteor Do?
Before investing time into unlocking it, here’s what Flaming Meteor actually does: you charge forward and stomp the earth to launch yourself into the air, conjure a blazing spear and hurl it at your target location for an AoE explosion, then crash down like a meteor for an additional hit of damage in the same area. The skill grants 15% Damage Reduction and Super Armor during the cast, making it both an offensive and defensive tool.
Because of its built-in forward movement and airtime, Flaming Meteor also functions as a mobility skill — letting you dive into packed enemy groups or reposition aggressively. Its full payoff is strongest when you hit multiple targets with the AoE.
How to Get Flaming Meteor in Where Winds Meet
Here’s the deal: Flaming Meteor is learned by deflecting a specific attack from Ye Wanshan (boss) 10 times. You can’t just buy it or pick it up from a chest—you have to earn it through combat.
The Ye Wanshan boss fight becomes available after you complete the Bodhi Sea mission in Sundara Land (Qinghe region). This area only unlocks after you finish Chapter One: Heaven Has No Pier.
So if you’re still early in the story, you’ll need to progress a bit before you can even attempt this.

Bodhi Sea Walkthrough
Once you’ve cleared Chapter One: Heaven Has No Pier, head to the location shown on the map (in the guide). You’ll find yourself in a dark, swampy bog area.

Here’s what to do:
- Follow the drum beat – You’ll hear drumming, and a white indicator will appear on-screen showing you the direction. Follow it.
- Ring the three drums – There are three drums scattered around the area. Find and interact with each one.
- Return to Zhang Yinmang – After ringing all three drums, head back to this NPC. You’ll be transported into Ye Wanshan’s Illusion world.
- Defeat Ye Wanshan – Beat him once here to unlock him as a repeatable Campaign Challenge encounter.
Critical note: You cannot learn the Flaming Meteor Skill during this first fight. You’re just unlocking access to the Campaign Challenge version of the fight. The skill-learning process happens afterward.

Returning to Fight Ye Wanshan Again
After you’ve defeated Ye Wanshan and completed the Bodhi Sea mission, open your map. You’ll notice a red umbrella/hero’s tomb icon above the swamp area. Click the button in the bottom right corner to teleport directly to this location.
Once you’re there, interact with the drum again. This transports you back into the Illusion world where you can fight the Campaign Challenge version of Ye Wanshan repeatedly. You can also access this fight directly via Main Menu → Wandering Paths → Campaign Challenge.
Learning Flaming Meteor From Ye Wanshan
Start the fight with Ye Wanshan again. This time, look to the right of his health bar—you’ll see an eye icon. That’s the Mystic Skill Learning meter for Flaming Meteor.

The Attack You Need to Deflect
During the fight, Ye Wanshan occasionally performs a specific move known as the Airborne Assault:
- He jumps on his horse
- He brings his spear down in a direct downward slash
- The attack is telegraphed with a red glint
Every time you successfully deflect/parry this attack, you’ll see a short cutscene of your character blocking the move. The Flaming Meteor Mystic Skill Learning icon will fill up by 1/10.
Important: Deflecting his other attacks doesn’t count. Only this specific Airborne Assault (horse-mounted downward spear strike) increases your progress.

Progress Tracking and Tips
Here’s some important news about progress: you must defeat Ye Wanshan at the end of each run to save your deflection progress. Deflecting the Airborne Assault multiple times then dying without completing the fight may mean those deflections don’t register. Each run, focus on getting your deflections in and then finishing the boss.
The good news is that confirmed progress does carry over between completed runs:
- If you deflect the attack 5 times and complete the fight, your progress stays at 5/10 next run
- You don’t need to get all 10 deflections in a single attempt — spread it across however many runs you need
- You can check your learning progress anytime by clicking the Bodhi Sea umbrella icon on the map
Another helpful tip: You don’t need to spend Energy on the chest that appears after defeating Ye Wanshan. Your skill learning progress registers automatically whether you claim the chest or not.
Once you successfully deflect Ye Wanshan’s Airborne Assault 10 times total, the progress bar fills completely, and you’ll unlock the Flaming Meteor Mystic Skill.

Strategy Tips for Learning Flaming Meteor
- Focus on deflecting, not killing – Don’t go all-out DPS early. Your goal is to bait out the Airborne Assault and deflect it successfully before finishing the boss.
- Learn the telegraph – Watch for the red glint when he mounts his horse. That’s your cue to prepare the deflect. Red attacks always have a slight delay, so wait for the wind-up before timing your parry.
- Use ranged weapons to manage distance – Because Ye Wanshan constantly circles the arena on horseback, chasing him is inefficient. Fans and umbrella-type weapons (Panacea Fan, Inkwell Fan, Vernal Umbrella, Soulshade Umbrella) are excellent for maintaining pressure with ranged attacks while you wait for the Airborne Assault.
- Use Cloud Steps to interrupt his charge – Ye Wanshan has a long-range charging attack that can be cancelled using Cloud Steps. This works best at mid-range; too far away and his flaming sword can still reach you.
- Be patient – Ye Wanshan doesn’t always perform the Airborne Assault frequently. Let the fight play out naturally rather than rushing.
- Always finish the fight – Remember: you need to defeat Ye Wanshan to save your progress for that run. Don’t leave the encounter without completing it.

Flaming Meteor Tier Upgrades
Once you’ve unlocked Flaming Meteor, it’s worth investing in its tier upgrades. Like most Mystic Skills, it can be upgraded to Rank 9 at each Tier before being promoted to the next, using Ebon Iron (of increasing levels) and Buddha’s Tear Root at Tier promotion nodes. The bonuses are:
- Tier 2: Heals you for every enemy hit by the blazing spear
- Tier 3: Increases the slam attack’s damage for every enemy hit in the landing area
- Tier 4: Damage Reduction when casting skills increased to 40%
Tier 2’s healing synergy makes Flaming Meteor especially strong in crowd-heavy situations. Tier 4’s 40% Damage Reduction is a luxury worth pursuing for players running aggressive front-line builds. If resources are limited, prioritise Tier 2 and Tier 3 first.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I learn Flaming Meteor during the first Bodhi Sea fight?
No. You must defeat Ye Wanshan once during the Bodhi Sea mission first to unlock the Campaign Challenge version of his fight. After that, you can return via the red umbrella icon on the map (or Main Menu → Wandering Paths → Campaign Challenge) and fight him repeatedly to learn the skill.
What happens if I die during the Ye Wanshan fight without defeating him?
If you die without completing the fight, your deflection progress for that run may not save. You need to defeat Ye Wanshan at the end of each run to register your progress. Progress from previously completed runs is saved and carries over — you just need to finish each individual attempt to bank those deflections.
Do I need 60 Vitality to learn the skill or just to equip it?
You only need 60 Vitality to equip the skill. You can learn it at any Vitality level, but you won’t be able to use it in combat until you meet the stat requirement.
How often does Ye Wanshan use the Airborne Assault attack?
The Airborne Assault is somewhat random, but he typically uses it a few times per fight. Stay defensive and patient — forcing the fight too aggressively might cause you to miss the telegraph or kill him too quickly before you get your deflections in.
What materials do I need to upgrade Flaming Meteor?
Flaming Meteor is upgraded using Ebon Iron (increasing levels as you rank up) and Buddha’s Tear Root at Tier promotion nodes. Tier upgrades unlock at Rank 9 of each Tier and provide major bonuses: Tier 2 heals per enemy hit, Tier 3 increases slam damage per enemy, and Tier 4 raises Damage Reduction when casting to 40%.
Ending Note
Flaming Meteor is absolutely worth the effort. It’s one of the best AoE Mystic Skills in Where Winds Meet, and once you understand the deflect mechanic, unlocking it is pretty straightforward. Just be patient, focus on timing, finish every run, and let your progress build naturally across multiple attempts.
Now get out there and master that Airborne Assault. Ye Wanshan won’t know what hit him!
