    TL;DR

    • AION 2 has 200+ customization options — one of the deepest character creators in any MMORPG.
    • The creator has five tabs: Preset, Face, Hair, Style, and Body Shape.
    • Choose your faction and class before entering the creator — these cannot be changed later.
    • Each account gets 4 character slots per server.
    • Appearance can be changed after creation using an Appearance Change Voucher — requires Level 10.
    • Cosmetic gear appearance is handled through the Closet (glamour) system separately from vouchers.
    • Wings are their own cosmetic category and have an enhancement progression system on top of appearances.
    • Pick a preset first, then sculpt face, hair, and body from there — never start with an empty slate.

How Character Customization Works in AION 2

AION 2 has one of the most advanced character creation systems in any MMORPG released in 2026. NCSOFT officially advertises over 200 customization options — and the tool lives up to that number. You can shape your character’s face down to individual lip curves, set hair with a two-tone dye picker using exact hex codes, add tattoos and war paint, and sculpt your body proportions from head size to calf thickness.

The character creator opens automatically when you make a new character. You move through it in a set order: faction first, then class, then gender and body type, and finally the appearance editor itself. After creation, your look is not locked forever — but changing it costs an Appearance Change Voucher and requires your character to be at least Level 10.

Before diving into the creator, make sure your PC is set up for the best visual experience. Check our AION 2 Best Settings Guide so you can see your character exactly as they will look in the game world.

Character Creation Order: What to Choose First

The order matters here. Some choices are permanent and some are not. Here is the exact sequence:

    1. Faction — Elyos or Asmodian. This is a permanent choice. It determines your starting zone, story, and which faction you fight for in the Abyss.
    2. Class — Choose from the eight available classes. Also permanent. Pick based on your preferred playstyle.
    3. Gender and Body Type — Two body frames available: a feminine silhouette and a masculine silhouette. Most hairstyles and makeup options are available to both.
    4. Appearance — The full editor with 200+ options. This is the part you can change later with a voucher.
    5. Server, Name, and Faction Confirmation — These come after the editor. Character names are server-specific.

The single most important tip: decide your faction and class before opening the appearance editor. Do not fall in love with a look and then realize you picked the wrong class. Appearance is changeable. Faction and class are not.

Character Slots: How Many Characters Can You Have?

Each account gets 4 character slots per server. This gives you room for alts across different classes or factions. If you want to experience both the Elyos and Asmodian story, you will need to use two slots across two different characters — they cannot be on the same faction on the same server and fight each other.

Since January 21, 2026, the appearance collection list is shared across all characters on a server. Any cosmetic skin or outfit you unlock on one character is available to all your characters on that server. Special-grade appearances are also shared serverwide since the July 2026 update. This means you do not need to re-earn cosmetics on every alt.

    The Five Customization Tabs Explained

The AION 2 character creator is split into five tabs along the top of the screen. Each one covers a different layer of your character’s appearance. Work through them in order for the cleanest results.

    Tab 1: Preset

    AION 2 Character Customization Preset

The Preset tab gives you a gallery of ready-made characters to start from. There are three preset tiers: full character presets, face-only presets, and style presets. Choosing a preset does not lock you in — it just gives you a starting point to edit from.

Always start with a preset, even if you plan to change everything. Starting from an empty base means every slider is at neutral, which gives an undefined, flat look. A preset gives you a shaped foundation that is much easier to sculpt from. Pick the one closest to your target look, then refine from there.

The left panel of the creator also has controls that are accessible from every tab: two body-type buttons, a Skin Color picker, a Skin Gloss slider, a Voice selector with four default voice presets, a Preview Outfit button with four clothing options to check how your face looks with gear on, and Lighting Type and Position controls to judge your character under different conditions.

    Tab 2: Face

    AION 2 Character Customization Face

Face is where the most time is spent and where the most depth lives. The Face tab opens with a grid of face presets you can use as a sub-base before sculpting further. Face customization in AION 2 is extremely granular — far deeper than the body or style tabs.

Face customization is broken into four sections:

    • Face Shape: Overall face shape, face type, and a morph grid that controls the broad contour of your character’s head. Also covers chin, jawline, cheekbones, forehead, and ear shape and position. Jaw sliders have the biggest impact on your character’s expression and personality — use them carefully.
    • Eye Customization: Eye size, position, depth, rotation, eyelid shape, eyelash length, eyebrow shape and color, plus the eye itself. The iris options include fantasy patterns — non-human shapes that work for more stylized or otherworldly character designs. Pupil shape and sclera color are also adjustable.
    • Nose Customization: Nose size, length, tip shape, bridge width, nostril width, and overall nose position on the face.
    • Mouth Customization: Upper and lower lip width, thickness, lip corner position, and overall mouth position. The lip sliders are among the most detailed in any MMO character creator — you can adjust lip shape, color, intensity, gloss, and glitter separately in the Style tab later.

Check your face from multiple angles as you work. The nose, chin, and ears in particular look very different from a side view compared to the front. Use the camera rotation to check both front and side before committing. Also use the Lighting controls — a face that looks perfect under the bright creator lighting can look very different in dark dungeon environments. AION 2 added colored lighting with a movable light source in the June 2026 update for exactly this reason.

    Tab 3: Hair

    AION 2 Character Customization Hair

The Hair tab covers hairstyle selection and color. AION 2 has a substantial library of hairstyles, and the Korean service received nine new hairstyles in the September 2026 update with more expected at global launch.

Hair coloring uses a two-tone dye system with separate pickers for primary color and secondary accent color. Each picker has hue, saturation, and brightness sliders plus a hex code input box — this lets you match your hair color precisely to a reference or to match another item’s color exactly. There is also a Two-Tone Dye Area slider that controls how much of the hair uses the secondary color.

Use the Preview Outfit button (in the left panel) while on the Hair tab to see how your hairstyle frames your face with actual clothing on rather than just underwear. Some hairstyles that look great without gear can partially clip with certain armor sets.

    Tab 4: Style

    AION 2 Character Customization Style

The Style tab is for everything that sits on top of your face and body — the finishing layer. It includes:

    • Contour and blush — face shading and warmth.
    • Eyeliner and eyeshadow — adjustable intensity, style, and color.
    • Lip color, gloss, and glitter — separate from the lip shape sliders on the Face tab.
    • Moles and freckles — placement-adjustable. Mole placement was added as a specific feature in the August 2026 update.
    • Face art and war paint — more dramatic overlays for a fierce or tribal look.
    • Scars — can be layered onto the face for a battle-worn appearance.
    • Tattoos — added in the July 2026 update. Not limited to the face — body tattoos are also available. Tattoo placement, rotation, and size are all adjustable.
    • Beards and facial hair — stubble type, intensity, full facial hair style, and color. Available on the masculine body frame.

Style is best done last. Adding strong makeup or tattoos before your face proportions are finalized often means redoing the style layer when you adjust the face. Get the face right first, then apply style on top.

    Tab 5: Body Shape

AION 2 Character Customization Body Shape
AION 2 Character Customization Body Shape

The Body Shape tab starts with its own preset list for broad silhouette choices, then breaks the character model down by region. Sliders cover:

    • Overall: Body-to-head ratio, height, overall build setting.
    • Head: Head size relative to body.
    • Arms: Arm length, upper arm thickness, forearm thickness.
    • Torso and Upper Body: Shoulder width, chest size, waist width, back thickness.
    • Lower Body: Hip width, thigh thickness, calf thickness, leg length.

The August 2026 update added separate skin gloss sliders for head and body — previously there was only one global gloss setting. This means you can now set your face and body skin at different gloss levels, which gives more natural-looking results for characters with heavy makeup or dramatic face art.

Body shape sliders and armor silhouettes differ based on the body frame you chose. The two frames share hairstyles and makeup but the muscle structure and how armor fits the frame are different. Check your body in the Preview Outfit view with multiple armor styles to make sure the proportions work with gear on.

    Voice Selection

Voice is selected from the left panel of the creator and applies to your character’s combat and ability sounds. There are four default voice presets available at creation. Voice type is part of the appearance package — it can be changed later through the same Appearance Change Voucher system.

How to Change Your Appearance After Creation

Your character’s appearance is not permanently locked after creation. You can reopen the full customization suite at any time after Level 10 using an Appearance Change Voucher.

Here is how to use it:

    1. Reach Level 10 — vouchers cannot be used below this level.
    2. Open your Cube inventory and locate the Appearance Change Voucher.
    3. Hover over it to read the tooltip and confirm it is the right type.
    4. Activate the voucher to reopen the full customization screen.
    5. Work through all five tabs — Preset, Face, Hair, Style, and Body Shape — and make every change in a single session.
    6. Select Apply when finished. Confirm the prompt to complete the edit.

Each voucher covers one full appearance edit session. Make every change you want in one session rather than applying, leaving, and coming back — the voucher is consumed when you confirm. Faction and class are not changed by a voucher; those are chosen at creation and remain permanent.

One important limitation: if you are using a Style Shop preset on your character, facial structure cannot be changed through the edit menu. You need to be on a custom face, not a locked preset, to use the facial sliders.

Where to Get Appearance Change Vouchers

    • In-game drops and quests — Vouchers appear as quest rewards and in some in-game drop tables.
    • Push rewards — NCSOFT has included Appearance Change Tickets in push reward packages (10 Resurrection Spiritstones + 1 Appearance Change Ticket in one confirmed distribution).
    • Founder’s Packs — The Ultimate Founder’s Pack ($99.99) includes a Daeva’s Styling Chest containing a Customization Voucher and a 7-day Appearance Change Voucher.
    • Deva Look Change events — AION 2 has run half-price customization event weeks (August 2026 dropped the cost from 200 to 100 Quna per piece for two weeks).
    • Cash shop / Quna — Vouchers are available for Quna, the premium currency.

The Closet System: Cosmetic Gear and Glamour

The Closet is AION 2’s transmog and glamour system. It lets you separate how your gear looks from the stats it carries. You can wear your best dungeon armor for the Item Level while displaying the appearance of any cosmetic set you own.

This system handles a completely different layer of your character’s visual identity from the Appearance Change Voucher. Outfit changes, weapon skins, and cosmetic gear swaps are all done through the Closet — no voucher needed.

    Outfit Dye System

Most cosmetic sets in AION 2 support dyeing. Each piece of gear has specific dye zones — usually primary color, secondary color, trim, and metallic sections. The August 2026 update added seven free patterns (horizontal stripes, vertical stripes, star, zebra, diamond checkerboard, cow, and houndstooth) to the Customization section under the Closet. These apply texture patterns to dye zones on gear.

When dyeing gear, check saturation, trim color, metallic sections, and pattern size before confirming an expensive change. Some colors that look great in the creator’s bright lighting look very different in darker game environments.

    Outfit Collection Effects

Collecting outfits in the Closet is not purely cosmetic in a passive sense. AION 2 has a Collection Effect system tied to wardrobe completion — owning more outfits contributes to passive collection bonuses. This gives players a meaningful reason to collect cosmetics beyond pure appearance preference.

Duplicate cosmetic items should be managed carefully. Check whether a duplicate contributes to a missing collection entry before discarding it. A simple chest piece with wide color zones may be more useful long-term than a flashy set that only looks good in one combination.

    Wings: Cosmetic and Progression Combined

Wings in AION 2 are their own visual category and one of the most visible parts of your character’s look while flying. Every Daeva can fly, and your wings are on full display the moment you take off.

As of the May 2026 update (Chalice of Muspel), wings received a full Wing Enhancement System. Your equipped wings can be enhanced for stat progression — but wing appearance is handled separately through the Closet. This means you can use any wing skin you own regardless of which wings give you the best stats.

Important note: paid wings, ranking reward wings, and Daeva Pass wings cannot be enhanced for stats. These are appearance-only. Wings that come from dungeon drops and specific in-game sources are the ones that feed the enhancement system.

Wing skins available include drops from dungeons, pass rewards, shop purchases, and event items. The Founder’s Pack Ultimate tier includes the Blazing Sun Wings skin as a cosmetic.

Cosmetic Sources: Where to Get Outfits and Skins

    • Shugo Festival — A recurring event with rotating cosmetic shop items. Runs every hour on the hour since the April 2026 update.
    • Black Cloud Merchants — Rotating shop that sells outfits and appearance items.
    • Atelier Shop — Premium cosmetic source (White Bunny pet, Chonky Hamster pet, and various outfits).
    • Daeva Pass — Seasonal progression track that rewards cosmetics including wing skins and the Swift Lugi pet.
    • In-game drops — Some outfits drop from dungeon content and open-world sources.
    • Collaboration events — AION 2 runs limited-time collaboration events. The June 2026 fromis_9 K-pop collaboration added five member-themed armor sets (4-piece each) and Four-Leaf Flubber Wings for 1,500 Quna each.
    • Founder’s Packs — Standard ($24.99), Deluxe ($49.99), and Ultimate ($99.99) tiers contain progressively more cosmetic items including armor sets, weapon skins, and wing skins. All cosmetics from Founder’s Packs are account-bound and appearance-only with no stat advantage.

Tips for Building the Best Character in AION 2

Use a Preset as Your Base

Never start from scratch. Pick the preset closest to your target look, then sculpt from there. Starting from a blank slate means all sliders sit at neutral, which gives a flat, undefined result. A preset gives you a formed starting shape that is much faster to refine.

    Check Under Multiple Lighting Conditions

The biggest mistake players make is finalizing their character under only one lighting preset. The character creator has colored lighting with a movable light source (added June 2026). Check your face under at least two different lighting types — the look under bright creator lighting can be very different from how it appears in a dark dungeon or the golden-hour open world.

    Use Preview Outfit Before Confirming

Check your character with clothes on before leaving the creator. The Preview Outfit button in the left panel shows your character in actual game gear. Some hairstyles that look great without armor partially clip with certain sets. Some face shapes that look strong in underwear look different once a helmet or collar piece frames them.

Work in Order: Face, Then Hair, Then Style

Always finalize your face proportions before adding hair and style details. Adding strong makeup or tattoos before the face is finalized means you will redo the style layer every time you adjust a cheekbone or lip position. Face → Hair → Style → Body is the cleanest order.

    Check Side and Front Views

Rotate the camera and check your character from the side. Nose shape, chin projection, ear placement, and jaw depth all look completely different from a profile view. A face that looks great front-on can have unexpected proportions from the side. Fix both views before confirming.

Save Your Edits to One Session

When using an Appearance Change Voucher post-creation, make all your changes in a single session. The voucher is consumed when you press Apply. Do not confirm a half-finished edit planning to come back — you will use another voucher for the next session.

Plan Your Faction and Class First

The most expensive character creation mistake is building a look you love on the wrong faction or class. Faction and class are permanent. Appearance is not. Decide on those two things first, confirm them, then spend as much time as you want in the creator.

What Cannot Be Changed After Creation

    • Faction — Elyos or Asmodian is permanent. No faction change service exists.
    • Class — Your chosen class is permanent. No reclass option is available.
    • Server — Characters are server-specific. Server Transfer windows have opened in the Korean service (August 2026 had a second window) but availability on the global service depends on NC’s schedule.

Everything appearance-related — face, hair, style, body, voice — can be changed after creation with a voucher. Cosmetic gear is handled through the Closet at any time for free (or at a Quna cost for dye changes).

    Final Tips for New Players

Take your time in the character creator. AION 2 is a game where you will look at your character for hundreds of hours — in combat, flying, in cutscenes, and in town. The creation screen is free and unlimited within that session, so use it fully.

If you rush and regret your look later, an Appearance Change Voucher fixes everything except faction and class. Keep at least one voucher in reserve if you are unsure about any part of your character’s look at creation.

And remember — cosmetic gear through the Closet means your character’s visual identity is a long-term project, not just a one-time decision at character creation. The wardrobe system grows with you as you play.
