TL;DR
- The Ascension Gauge is a story gate that blocks Episode quest progress at Levels 22 and 32.
- The fastest way to fill it is Regional Quests — each one adds roughly 5% to the gauge.
- You only need to complete 3 to 5 nearby Regional Quests to clear each gate if you already did Episode quests.
- Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds also fill the gauge — and give permanent rewards at the same time.
- Do not grind mobs — mob kills give no gauge progress at all.
- Once the gauge hits 100%, complete the Ascension quest to unlock the next Episode and your upgraded wings.
- There is also an Ascension at Level 5 or 6 (first wings) and at Level 45 (Ascension Bracelet).
What Is the Ascension Gauge in AION 2?
The Ascension Gauge is a story progression gate that blocks your Episode quest chain at two points during leveling. When you hit it, the main story pauses and a gauge appears on your screen. You need to fill that gauge to 100% before you can continue the Episode quests and push toward Level 45.
Think of it as the game asking you to engage with the world before moving the plot forward. It is not a punishment — it is a designed checkpoint that ensures you have done enough zone content to be ready for the next story beat. The good news is that it fills fast if you know what to do, and the content that fills it also gives you useful permanent rewards.
Many new players hit the gauge and do not understand why the story stopped, or they try to fill it by grinding mobs and wonder why nothing is happening. This guide explains exactly what fills the gauge, what does not, and how to clear it as fast as possible.
When Does the Ascension Gauge Appear?
The Ascension Gauge blocks Episode quest progress at two specific points during the leveling phase:
- Around Level 22 — The first major Ascension gate. The Episode chain stops and asks you to fill the gauge to continue. This Ascension is called The One Who Hears the Voice. It upgrades you from Lesser Daeva Wings to Intermediate Daeva Wings and introduces the Stigma skill system.
- Around Level 32 — The second major gate. The Episode chain stops again. Completing this Ascension upgrades you to Superior Daeva Wings and unlocks additional progression systems.
There is also an earlier Ascension at Level 5 (Elyos) or Level 6 (Asmodians) when you first become a Daeva and get your initial Lesser Daeva Wings. This one does not have a gauge to fill — it unlocks automatically through the story quest “Fledgling Wings” or “Spread Your Wings.” Do not skip it. It gates flight and all later systems build on it.
A final Ascension at Level 45 rewards the Ascension Bracelet — a Unique accessory that is one of the best free items in the early endgame. Always complete this one too.
What Fills the Ascension Gauge?
The Ascension Gauge fills from four types of content. Only these activities contribute. Everything else — including mob grinding — gives zero gauge progress.
- Regional Quests — Green side quests that appear throughout each zone. These are by far the fastest gauge filler. Each quest adds roughly 5% to the gauge.
- Episode Quests — The main story quests you have already been following. These also add gauge progress, which is why your gauge is usually already partway filled by the time you hit the gate.
- Sealed Dungeons — The instanced dungeons marked with a question mark on your map. These give gauge progress on completion, and more importantly give permanent Daevanion Crystals and Skill Points on first clear.
- Strongholds — Open-world boss areas. These give gauge progress and drop Belt Enhancement Scrolls for your Noble Belt upgrade path.
What does NOT fill the gauge:
- Killing open-world monsters — zero progress.
- Crafting or gathering — zero progress.
- Running Expedition dungeons — zero progress.
- Sitting in town — zero progress.
How to Fill the Ascension Gauge Fast
If you have been following the main Episode quests, your gauge will already be around 75% to 85% full by the time you hit each gate. That means you only need a handful of additional activities to push it to 100%. Here is the fastest way to do it.

Step 1: Open Your Map and Find Nearby Regional Quests
Open your world map. Regional quests appear as green question marks. Look for any that are in your current zone or the zones you passed through most recently. You do not need to go far — there are always Regional quests within easy reach of wherever the Episode chain stopped you.
You can also check your Quest Journal. Regional quests are tracked there and show which ones you have available without needing to open the map.
Step 2: Do the Closest 3 to 5 Regional Quests
Each Regional quest adds roughly 5% to the gauge. If your gauge is sitting at 75% when you hit the gate, you need five quests. If it is at 85%, you only need three. Pick the ones closest to your current location and complete them without backtracking far across the map.
Prioritize Regional quests that reward useful accessories like earrings, necklaces, or rings. The gauge gain is the same regardless of which quest you pick, but some quests reward gear that fills slots you need. Getting gauge progress and a free accessory at the same time is always better than gauge progress alone.
Also note that lower-level Regional quests fill the gauge just as fast as higher-level ones. If there is a nearby easy quest from an earlier area, it gives the same 5% as a harder current-zone quest. Do not skip early quests just because they feel too easy.

Step 3: Clear a Sealed Dungeon or Two on the Way
If Regional quests alone are not quite enough, or if you want to combine gauge progress with permanent rewards, clear the nearest Sealed Dungeon while you are doing your quests. Each Sealed Dungeon gives gauge progress on completion. More importantly, first-clear Sealed Dungeons give Daevanion Crystals and Skill Points — permanent character upgrades that never get replaced.
Do not repeat Sealed Dungeons specifically to fill the gauge. First-clear rewards are where the value is. After the first clear, move on.
Step 4: Hit a Stronghold If One Is Nearby
If a Stronghold is on your path, clear it. Strongholds give gauge progress and drop Belt Enhancement Scrolls for your Noble Belt. Your Noble Belt has a long permanent upgrade path that starts during leveling, so Stronghold clears are doubly valuable. Do not go out of your way for them, but if one is between you and your next Regional quest, always stop for it.
Step 5: Complete the Ascension Quest at 100%
Once the gauge hits 100%, a new quest appears in your journal — the Ascension quest itself. Complete it. This is a short story quest that confirms your Ascension and delivers the rewards. Do not ignore it and just run back to the Episode chain. You need to complete the Ascension quest itself to unlock the next Episode and claim your wing upgrade.
Ascension Gate 1: Level 22 — What to Expect
The first major Ascension gate appears around Level 22. This is called The One Who Hears the Voice. By the time you hit it, your gauge should be somewhere between 70% and 90% depending on how many side quests you completed naturally along the way.
The first Ascension tier does not yet have dedicated Ascension tasks to help fill the gauge — Regional quests, Sealed Dungeons, and Strongholds carry the progress entirely here. Focus your gauge-filling in the Western and Eastern Cantas Valley, Ellun River Marsh, and nearby Altgard zones (for Asmodians) where Regional quests are clustered.
What you get for completing the Level 22 Ascension:
- Intermediate Daeva Wings (Bound) — An upgrade to your first wing tier with better flight stats.
- Stigma system unlocks — You can now slot Stigma Skills using Stigma Shards. This is a separate skill progression system from your regular Skill Points.
- Additional story progress — The next Episode quests unlock immediately.
Ascension Gate 2: Level 32 — What to Expect
The second Ascension gate appears around Level 32. By this point in the story, you have been through more zones and collected more side quests, so the gauge is often closer to 80% to 90% when you hit this gate. You typically need only two to four Regional quests to push it to 100%.
The second Ascension tier may have dedicated Ascension tasks available in your journal alongside Regional quests. If they are there, do them — they are specifically designed to fill the gauge and often have good rewards attached.
Focus gauge filling in whatever zone you are currently in. Do not travel back to earlier areas unless the closest quests genuinely require it.
What you get for completing the Level 32 Ascension:
- Superior Daeva Wings (Bound) — Another wing tier upgrade with better flight stats and bonuses.
- Daevanion Board progression — Additional Daevanion nodes unlock as you progress through Ascension tiers.
- Additional story progress — The Episode chain continues toward Level 45.
All Ascension Rewards by Stage
- Level 5 / 6 (First Ascension — Become a Daeva): Lesser Daeva Wings, flight ability, Daeva status.
- Level 22 (Second Ascension — The One Who Hears the Voice): Intermediate Daeva Wings, Stigma system unlock.
- Level 32 (Third Ascension): Superior Daeva Wings, additional Daevanion Board nodes.
- Level 45 (Final Ascension): Ultimate Daeva Wings, Ascension Bracelet (Unique accessory), endgame system unlocks.
Each wing tier provides progressively better flight stats and bonuses. The Ascension Bracelet at Level 45 is especially valuable — it is a Unique-grade accessory that functions as your primary bracelet for a long stretch of early endgame play. Do not skip the Level 45 Ascension quest even if you feel ready to jump into endgame content.
The Best Regional Quests to Do for Gauge Progress
Since every Regional quest gives approximately the same gauge progress regardless of difficulty or level, your prioritization should focus on location and rewards rather than quest level. Here is what to look for:
- Quests in your current zone first — Never travel far just for gauge progress. The quests already near you are just as effective as anything farther away.
- Quests that reward accessories — Earrings, necklaces, and rings from Regional quests fill equipment slots that matter. These accessories are useful stepping stones and free up your enhancement materials for more important pieces.
- Clustered quest hubs — Some quest givers sit near each other with multiple quests between them. Identifying clusters lets you turn in three or four quests from the same small area without significant travel time.
- Quests along the route between Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds — If you are clearing a dungeon and a Stronghold nearby, pick up any Regional quests that sit between the two. You get gauge progress from all three activities in a single efficient loop.
Sealed Dungeons: Permanent Rewards While Filling the Gauge
Sealed Dungeons are the question mark icons on your map. Every first clear gives gauge progress plus permanent Daevanion Crystals, Skill Points, Enhance Stones, and Silentium. These first-clear rewards never expire and directly improve your character.
The smart approach when hitting an Ascension gate is to check which nearby Sealed Dungeons you have not yet cleared. Clear each one once. You get gauge progress toward 100% and permanent character upgrades at the same time. This is always more efficient than doing extra Regional quests alone.
Do not run Sealed Dungeons multiple times just for gauge progress. First-clear rewards are what matters. After the first clear, the gauge benefit drops significantly and the permanent rewards are already claimed.
Strongholds: Belt Progress While Filling the Gauge
Strongholds are open-world boss areas marked on your map. They drop Belt Enhancement Scrolls, which are the only way to upgrade your Noble Belt during the leveling phase. Your Noble Belt has a permanent upgrade path — you enhance it to Level 10, then use Substance Morph to increase its rarity tier. Each rarity upgrade is permanent and gives meaningful stat and Item Level gains.
Doing Strongholds while filling the Ascension Gauge means you are advancing two separate permanent progression systems at the same time. If a Stronghold is anywhere near your current questing area when you hit a gauge gate, clear it.
Common Ascension Gauge Mistakes to Avoid
- Grinding mobs to fill the gauge: This does nothing. Mob kills do not contribute to the Ascension Gauge at all. Players who try to grind their way through the gate waste hours and make no progress. Only quests, dungeons, and Strongholds fill it.
- Travelling far across the map for quests: The gauge fills just as fast from a Level 12 Regional quest nearby as from a Level 30 quest on the other side of the world. Do the closest quests first.
- Skipping the Ascension quest after the gauge hits 100%: The gauge hitting 100% does not automatically continue the story. You must complete the Ascension quest itself. Check your journal and complete it before returning to the Episode chain.
- Running Expedition dungeons for gauge progress: Expedition content does not contribute to the Ascension Gauge. Save your Odyle Energy for Conquest runs at Level 45.
- Repeating Sealed Dungeons for gauge: First clears give the permanent rewards and best gauge progress. Repeat runs give very little. Clear each dungeon once and move on.
- Ignoring the Level 45 Ascension quest: Some players hit the cap and jump straight into endgame content without completing the final Ascension. This means missing the Ascension Bracelet — a free Unique accessory that is very hard to replace in the early endgame. Always do it.
How Long Does It Take to Fill the Ascension Gauge?
If you have been following the Episode quest chain properly, filling the Ascension Gauge takes 15 to 30 minutes at each gate. That is roughly three to five Regional quests plus one or two Sealed Dungeons if available nearby.
Players who rushed the main story without doing any side content at all may need closer to 45 to 60 minutes at the first gate since their gauge starts lower. This is still fast — the content is not designed to be a long stop, just a brief detour into the zone around you.
The fastest players report clearing the gauge in under 15 minutes at the Level 32 gate because they have learned the quest pattern and pick up Regional quests proactively as they move through the story, arriving at the gate with the gauge already at 90% or higher.
Tips for Faster Ascension Gauge Progress
- Pick up Regional quests as you go: Do not wait for the gauge gate to start collecting Regional quests. Accept them as you pass through zones naturally. Many players arrive at the gate with the gauge already nearly full because they picked up quests passively along the route.
- Check your journal before running across the map: Your quest journal lists available Regional quests. Check it first to see which ones are already in your log before heading somewhere new to find them.
- Prioritize quests with accessory rewards: The gauge gain is the same for every Regional quest. If two quests are equally close, pick the one that rewards an earring or necklace over one that gives only Kinah or potions.
- Use Kibelisks (fast travel) to reduce wasted time: Register every Kibelisk travel point you pass during leveling. When the Ascension gate appears, fast travel to the nearest cluster of Regional quests instead of running on foot.
- Do not open Expedition dungeon chests during leveling: Expedition chests cost Odyle Energy. Spending Odyle on low-level gear during the leveling phase wastes resources you need for endgame Conquest runs. Do the dungeon for gauge progress if needed — just do not open the reward chest.
What Happens After Your Final Ascension at Level 45?
The Level 45 Ascension is the last one. After completing it, you receive the Ascension Bracelet (Unique grade), the Ultimate Daeva Wings, and the formal unlock of all endgame systems. The gauge system no longer applies at this point — endgame progression is entirely Item Level based from here on.
Your next step after the Level 45 Ascension is to start the endgame progression loop: Regional Quests for accessories and Clash Runes, Conquest dungeons for gear, and Daevanion Crystal farming for permanent Item Level gains.

Summary: How to Fill the Ascension Gauge Fast
The Ascension Gauge fills from Regional Quests, Episode Quests, Sealed Dungeons, and Strongholds. Nothing else contributes. The fastest way to clear each gate is to do the nearest three to five Regional quests in your current zone, clear any Sealed Dungeons you have not yet done, and hit any nearby Strongholds on the way. Each Regional quest gives about 5% gauge progress, so most players only need a small handful to push from wherever the story left their gauge to 100%.
Do not grind mobs. Do not open Expedition chests. Do not travel far. Just clear the content already around you, complete the Ascension quest when the gauge hits 100%, and keep pushing toward Level 45.
