TL;DR
- Follow the main Episode (story) quests to reach Level 45 — they give the most XP by far.
- Do Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds on the side — they give permanent Daevanion and Belt upgrades.
- Level 45 is the cap. After that, progression shifts to Item Level, Arcana, Daevanion Boards, and the Abyss.
- Spend every Daevanion Crystal as soon as you get it — each one is +1 Item Level permanently.
- Target Item Level 1,600 to unlock Transcendence and start Arcana farming.
- The endgame Item Level roadmap: 1,600 → 2,100 → 2,500 → 2,800 (raid entry).
AION 2 Leveling Overview
AION 2 is a story-driven MMORPG that takes you from Level 1 all the way to the current cap of Level 45. The road to max level is actually pretty smooth once you know what to focus on. The short version: main story first, permanent upgrades second, everything else third.
New players often waste time grinding random mobs or over-investing in gear too early. This guide will make sure you do not make those same mistakes. Whether you just installed the game or you are stuck mid-progress, this breakdown covers everything — from your first steps as a Daeva to endgame raids.
You can play AION 2 for free at aion2.online or download it on Steam.

AION 2 Leveling Route: Level 1 to 45
The fastest route to Level 45 is simple: follow the yellow Episode (main story) quests and never stop. Episode quests give 97% to 99% of the XP you need to reach the level cap, depending on your faction. Nothing else in the game comes close to that efficiency.
Levels 1 to 9: Your Starting Zone
Your first zone is your faction’s starting area. Elyos players begin in Poeta, while Asmodians start in Ishalgen. Stick to the main story here. The most important event in this phase is your Ascension at Level 5, when you complete the quest “Fledgling Wings” and become a Daeva with the ability to fly.
Do not go out of your way for side quests or Sealed Dungeons at this stage. They unlock properly at Level 10 and are better saved for then.
Levels 10 to 21: Unlock Side Systems
Once you hit Level 10, the game opens up. Sealed Dungeons start appearing as question mark icons on your map. These are short instanced dungeons, and their first-time completions give Daevanion Crystals, Enhance Stones, and other permanent progression materials. They are worth doing.
Continue following the main story, but take Sealed Dungeons along the way. Do not grind them over and over — just do each one once during this phase. Also stack nearby green side quests when they cluster together. They give small XP boosts and can be done quickly without going off route.
At around Level 10, the Daevanion Board also unlocks. Spend your Daevanion Crystals the moment you get them. Each crystal spent adds exactly +1 permanent Item Level to your character — it never goes away, even when you swap gear.

Levels 22 to 37: Stigmas and Build Progression
The Stigma system begins unlocking during this phase. You will get four Stigma slots across four milestones as you level up. Start spending Stigma Shards on your most important skills right away — do not save them.
This is also when Strongholds become important. Strongholds are open-world boss areas that drop Belt Enhancement Scrolls. Your Noble Belt is one of the few accessories that has a dedicated long-term upgrade path, so completing Strongholds now sets you up for later.
Keep following the Episode quests. Do not deviate to grind monsters — it is a waste of time. If you hit an Ascension Gauge requirement that slows your story progress, fill it by clearing the Sealed Dungeons and green side quests in the current zone rather than grinding mobs.

Levels 38 to 45: Final Push to the Cap
This part of the leveling curve can feel a little slow. The zones get bigger and quests are more spread out. The best approach here is to look for concentrated quest hubs, clear nearby Sealed Dungeons, finish any Strongholds you missed, and keep pushing the Episode chain.
Do not stop to over-enhance your leveling gear at this point. You will replace it all at Level 45 anyway. Just keep your weapon at a comfortable level to make combat smooth and push forward.
Most focused players can reach Level 45 in 10 to 15 hours if they follow the Episode quests without too many detours. Experienced MMO players who know the route can do it in 12 hours or less.
What to Do During Leveling (Aside from the Story)
Sealed Dungeons

Sealed Dungeons show up as question marks on the map. Each dungeon gives Daevanion Crystals, Skill Points, and Enhance Stones on your first clear. They also unlock passive Daevanion Board nodes, which are permanent stat upgrades. Complete each one once as you pass through the area.
Strongholds
Strongholds give Belt Enhancement Scrolls. Your Noble Belt upgrades through a separate enhancement path — you enhance it to Level 10, then use Substance Morph to transform it to the next rarity tier. Keep doing Strongholds whenever they appear near your main quests.
Empyrean Trace Feathers
Pick these up whenever you see them in the open world. Turning them in at the Monolith contributes to permanent progression and gives Amulet Scrolls for upgrading your Revelation Amulet. Like the belt, the amulet has its own upgrade path and its bonuses are permanent.
Gear During Leveling
Do not over-invest in leveling gear. Upgrade your weapon enough to keep questing comfortable, and improve accessories if you find good ones. Everything else will be replaced at Level 45. Focus on permanent upgrades — Daevanion Crystals and Belt/Amulet scrolls — rather than pouring resources into temporary armor.

AION 2 Leveling Zones by Faction
Elyos Leveling Zones
- Levels 1–9: Poeta — Daminu Forest, Clione Lake, Phoenix Sky Island, Migzatu Brigade Base
- Levels 10–13: Western and Eastern Cantas Valley
- Levels 14–18: Ellun River Marsh, Contaminated Marsh, Spirit’s Rest, Ellun River Midstream, Anguish Hill
- Levels 19–45: Continue following Episode quest markers through later zones
Asmodian Leveling Zones
Asmodians follow the same shape — a short starter map from Levels 1 to 9, then one large main map carrying them from Level 10 to 45. The Episode quest line is your guide. Follow it and you will be directed to the right areas automatically.
Ascension Gauge: What It Is and How to Fill It
As you level, you will hit Ascension checkpoints. These are major story milestones that require you to fill an Ascension Gauge before you can continue the Episode quest chain. You fill the gauge by completing green side quests, Sealed Dungeons, Strongholds, and other zone activities.
There are two main Ascension gates during the leveling phase. When you hit one, do not panic. Just clear the surrounding content — nearby side quests, Sealed Dungeons, and Strongholds — and the gauge fills up quickly. Do not grind random mobs. The structured content fills the gauge far faster.
AION 2 Max Level: What Changes at Level 45
Level 45 is the Global Season 1 level cap. When you hit it, character levels stop mattering entirely. Progression now shifts to Item Level, dungeon gear, Arcana, Daevanion Boards, Pantheon stats, gear enhancement, and Abyss upgrades.
Finish the remaining Episode and Ascension quests first. These still give important rewards that position you for the endgame gear ladder. Then the real game begins.

AION 2 Endgame Progression Order
Here is the correct order to follow after hitting Level 45. Doing things out of this order wastes materials and slows you down.
- Finish story and Regional Quests — These give Item Level 43 accessories, Daevanion Crystals, and Wisdom Stones.
- Complete all Sealed Dungeons — Unlocks Skill Points and full Daevanion Board progression.
- Complete all Strongholds — Upgrades your Noble Belt to Unique rarity.
- Collect all Empyrean Trace Feathers — Completes Monolith progression for permanent stat bonuses and Amulet upgrades.
- Farm Conquest Expeditions — Main source of weapons, armor, and Item Level 54, 70, and 86 gear.
- Unlock Transcendence at 1,600 Item Level — The gateway to Arcana farming.
- Continue Daevanion Board progression — Every point spent is +1 permanent Item Level.
- Build toward Item Level 2,800 — Required to enter the launch Sanctuary raid (Abyssal Forge: Ludra).
How to Increase Item Level Fast in AION 2
Item Level is the most important number in the endgame. It gates dungeon entry, determines your combat power, and reflects how strong your character actually is. Here is what adds to it:
- Each equipped piece: Adds its own item level value directly.
- Enhancement: +1 Item Level per enhancement level on a piece of gear.
- Arcana cards: Common adds +20, Rare +40, Epic/Legendary +60, Unique +80, plus +1 per enhancement level on the card.
- Daevanion Crystals: +1 Item Level per crystal spent — permanent and never replaced.
- Belt and Amulet rarity: Each rarity upgrade via Substance Morph increases their contribution to Item Level.
The biggest mistake players make is treating Item Level as a gear-only problem. Enhancement, Daevanion, Arcana, Belt, and Amulet progression all add up fast. Stack all of them together and your Item Level jumps much faster than waiting on a lucky drop.
Also replace your lowest item level slot first, not your best. Total Item Level is what dungeon entry gates check, so upgrading a weak slot by 20 points is worth more than polishing an already-strong piece.
AION 2 Endgame Item Level Roadmap
- Fresh Level 45: Clean up story, Regional Quests, Sealed Dungeons, and Strongholds. Fill in missing permanent progression.
- Item Level 1,400: Farm Urugugu Canyon Conquest and Vakron Sky Island for Item Level 70 gear.
- Item Level 1,600: Transcendence Stage 1 unlocks — start serious Arcana farming.
- Item Level 2,100: Fire Temple and Ferocious Horn Den Conquest tier — Item Level 86 gear.
- Item Level 2,200: Transcendence Stage 3 opens for higher-grade Arcana.
- Item Level 2,500: Farm high-quality Arcana and prepare for raid content.
- Item Level 2,800: Entry requirement for Abyssal Forge: Ludra, the launch-tier Sanctuary raid.
Daevanion Board: Permanent Power You Should Not Skip
The Daevanion Board is one of the most important permanent progression systems in AION 2. There are five Daevanion Boards total, each unlocking at different points in your progression. The first four boards each add up to +4 levels on your active skills, letting you push core abilities beyond Level 10 during the leveling phase, and all the way to Level 14 with all four boards complete.
After that, Arcana cards and Soul Bindings push skills to Level 16 and eventually Level 20.
Spend Daevanion Crystals on board nodes as soon as you get them. Do not save them. Each crystal is +1 permanent Item Level, and that number compounds over time. Daevanion is also where you invest Daevanion Crystals from the Nightmare and Abyss shops at endgame.
Skill Progression and Stigma Guide
How Skills Work in AION 2
AION 2 has three types of skills: Active Skills, Passive Skills, and Stigma Skills. Each has a different upgrade path.
- Skill Points: The first step. Used to level Active and Passive skills from their base level up to Level 10.
- Daevanion Boards: Push skills from Level 10 to Level 14 (four boards, +1 per board).
- Arcana and Soul Bindings: Push skills beyond Level 14 to Level 16 and eventually Level 20.
A good general rule is to level your most-used skills to Level 8, then to Level 12 using Daevanion bonuses. Prioritize active skills in your main damage or healing rotation. Put remaining points into passives, spreading them evenly rather than maxing one passive at the expense of others.
How Stigmas Work in AION 2
Stigma Skills are completely separate from regular skills. They use Stigma Shards, not normal Skill Points, to level up. You unlock four Stigma slots across four story milestones between Levels 20 and 37.
Stigmas can be leveled to Level 20 in Global Season 1. Start leveling them from day one. Fourth-tier and higher Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds drop Stigma Shards, and the Abyss shop sells large amounts of them as well. You can also buy Stigma Shards from the Shugo Fiesta and Nightmare shops.
Before spending Stigma Shards, decide which four Stigma slots matter most for your build. Level those to 5 first, then push them to 10 before branching out. For build-specific advice, read our AION 2 Review covering class strengths.
Arcana Cards: The Long-Term Progression System
Arcana is the endgame power layer that sits on top of gear. You equip Arcana cards into slots on your character, and each card adds both Item Level and bonus skill levels. Cards come in four grades: Common, Rare, Epic, and Unique.
- Common: +20 Item Level per slot
- Rare: +40 Item Level per slot
- Epic/Legendary: +60 Item Level per slot
- Unique: +80 Item Level per slot, plus +1 per card enhancement level
Arcana unlocks through Transcendence dungeons at 1,600 Item Level. Even filling your slots with Common-grade cards immediately adds meaningful Item Level. Do not leave Arcana slots empty while waiting for high-grade cards — fill them with whatever you have and upgrade over time.
Abyss Progression in AION 2
The Abyss opens at Level 45. It is the PvP and competitive zone of AION 2, and it has its own currency: Abyss Points. The Abyss shop sells Potential Stones for PvP Potential upgrades, Stigma Shards for leveling Stigmas, and Daevanion resources for additional board progression.
If you plan to PvP, open the Azphel Daevanion Board at Level 45 immediately — it is the dedicated PvP progression board. Abyss Points are the main currency here, and they are earned by killing enemies in the Abyss and completing Abyss content.
Global Season 1 Abyss progression focuses more on materials that strengthen your existing character than on replacing your entire gear set through the Abyss shop alone.
Common Leveling and Progression Mistakes to Avoid
- Grinding mobs for XP: This is almost always slower than following Episode quests. Story quests give the vast majority of your leveling XP.
- Farming Sealed Dungeons repeatedly: First-clear rewards are permanent. Repeat runs give much less. Do each dungeon once while leveling, then move on.
- Over-enhancing leveling gear: You will replace everything at Level 45. Only enhance your weapon enough to keep questing comfortable.
- Saving Daevanion Crystals: Spend them immediately. There is no benefit to hoarding them, and each crystal is +1 permanent Item Level.
- Ignoring Belt and Amulet progression: These give permanent stats that survive gear upgrades. Many beginners underestimate them.
- Treating Item Level as a gear-only problem: Enhancement, Daevanion, Arcana, Belt, and Amulet all contribute to your Item Level. Stack all systems together.
AION 2 Progression Tips for Beginners
- Pick up every Empyrean Trace Feather you see in the open world — they contribute to permanent Monolith and Amulet progression.
- Use food buffs early on — small combat boosts make questing noticeably faster.
- Learn your class’s core skill rotation while leveling. The muscle memory you build now carries directly into endgame dungeons.
- Check the basic attack mechanic — your left-click basic attack regenerates MP in AION 2, which matters for skill-heavy rotations.
- Before endgame, check the PC requirements are met to avoid performance issues. See our AION 2 PC Requirements guide.
- If you want companions while leveling, check our guide on how to get pets fast in AION 2.
AION 2 Leveling and Progression: Final Summary
AION 2 is a game with a clear path. Follow the Episode quests to Level 45, pick up permanent upgrades from Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds along the way, and do not waste resources on gear you will replace in a few hours. Once you hit the level cap, switch your mindset entirely to Item Level and start climbing the endgame ladder.
The endgame progression spine is straightforward: Regional Quests and permanent upgrades first, then Conquest farming, then Transcendence and Arcana at 1,600 Item Level, and finally the 2,800 Item Level gate for raid content. Keep your Daevanion, Stigmas, Belt, and Amulet progressing alongside your gear, and you will climb faster than players who focus on gear alone.
