    By Lilly Daniels · October 7, 2026 · 11 min read
    Max Level in AION 2

    TL;DR

    • The max level in AION 2 Global Season 1 is Level 45.
    • Speedrunners reach it in 4 to 7 hours by following only the main story.
    • Focused players who do some side content hit it in 9 to 12 hours.
    • Casual players who explore everything take 15 to 25 hours.
    • The main Episode quest chain gives 97% to 99% of the XP needed — it is always your fastest route.
    • Two Ascension Gauge gates will slow you down if you are not prepared for them.
    • After Level 45, the real progression begins — Item Level, Arcana, and dungeons replace character leveling entirely.

What Is the Max Level in AION 2?

Level 45 is the current max level in AION 2 Global Season 1. Once you reach it, character leveling stops completely. From that point on, your progression shifts to Item Level, gear quality, Arcana cards, Daevanion Boards, and Abyss upgrades. Level 45 is also the unlock point for the game’s most important endgame content — Sanctuaries, Battlefields, Transcendence dungeons, and the Abyss.

The good news is that reaching Level 45 in AION 2 is not a weeks-long grind like some other MMORPGs. The leveling phase is designed to be completed in a single play session or across a few days at most, regardless of your playstyle.

How Long Does It Take to Reach Level 45 in AION 2

How Long Does It Take to Reach Level 45 in AION 2?

The honest answer is: it depends on how you play. Here is a clear breakdown by playstyle:

    • Speedrun / Optimized: Approximately 4 to 7 hours
    • Focused leveling (main story + key side content): Approximately 9 to 12 hours
    • Casual / Full exploration: Approximately 15 to 25 hours

Most first-time players should expect around 10 to 15 hours to hit the cap comfortably, depending on MMO experience and how much side content they stop for. Experienced MMORPG players who know how to read questing systems can do it faster.

The key variable in all of this is how closely you follow the main Episode quest chain. That one choice determines your leveling speed more than anything else.

Speedrun Route: Level 45 in 4 to 7 Hours

If you want to reach max level as fast as possible, the route is simple: follow the yellow main story quests and nothing else, except for the specific side quests needed to fill the Ascension Gauge gates at Levels 22 and 32.

The Ascension Gauge is a story gate that blocks Episode progress at two fixed points. You have to fill it to 100% before the main story unlocks again. Each Regional quest fills it by roughly 5%, so you only need to complete three or four targeted side quests to clear each gate — not the entire map.

    Here is the speedrun sequence:

    • Levels 1 to 22: Follow the main story only. At Level 22, the first Ascension Gauge appears. Complete the three to four green Regional quests closest to your location, clear the gate, and move on immediately.
    • Levels 22 to 32: Return to the main story. At Level 32, the second Ascension Gauge appears. Repeat the same process — minimal targeted side quests, fill the gate, continue.
    • Levels 32 to 45: Main story all the way to the cap.

Dedicated speedrunners who know exactly which quests to pick can complete the whole run in under 4 hours. Even on a first attempt with some exploration, finishing in 5 to 6 hours is realistic if you stay disciplined about not getting sidetracked.

Focused Leveling: Level 45 in 9 to 12 Hours

This is the recommended route for most players — especially those playing AION 2 for the first time. Follow the main story as your primary activity, but weave in Sealed Dungeons and Strongholds as you pass through each zone.

This approach takes a bit longer than speedrunning, but it leaves you in a much stronger position at Level 45. Here is why:

    • Sealed Dungeons give Daevanion Crystals on their first clear. Each crystal is +1 permanent Item Level on the Daevanion Board. Skipping them during leveling means spending extra time catching up on these after hitting the cap.
    • Strongholds drop Belt Enhancement Scrolls. Your Noble Belt has a permanent upgrade path, and Stronghold clears are the only way to get those scrolls during the leveling phase.
    • Side quests clustered in the same zone as your main quest add XP quickly without significant travel time.

The smart rule is: do each Sealed Dungeon and Stronghold once as you pass through the area, stack nearby green side quests when they are close together, and keep moving. Do not grind or repeat content — just clear it once and move on.

Players who follow this approach arrive at Level 45 with a noticeably stronger character and far less catching up to do in the early endgame.

For more detail on how to build this route efficiently, see our AION 2 Leveling and Progression Guide.

Casual Leveling: Level 45 in 15 to 25 Hours

If you are in no rush and want to enjoy the story, explore the world, read quest dialogue, complete most side content, and take your time — expect the leveling phase to take somewhere between 15 and 25 hours. A very relaxed first playthrough that dips into everything can push closer to 17 hours.

This is completely fine. There is no competitive penalty for taking your time during leveling in AION 2. The endgame gating is based on Item Level, not how fast you hit the cap. Players who take a more thorough approach often have better permanent progression in place when they arrive at 45.

AION 2 is also more casual-friendly than many Korean MMORPGs. The most important endgame systems reset weekly rather than daily, and an Odyle Energy cap means hardcore players cannot sprint infinitely far ahead of more casual ones.

Alt Characters: How Long Does the Second Playthrough Take?

Once you know the route, leveling an alt character is significantly faster. Experienced players can level an alt to 45 in 5 to 8 hours because they already understand the Ascension Gauge gates, know which side quests to pick, and do not need time to learn new systems along the way.

Some players level alts to around Level 22, where Krao Cave progression becomes available, to use them as weekly Odyle Energy sources. AION 2 is not designed as a heavy alt simulator — developers have actively worked to reduce alt-grinding pressure — but having one or two secondary characters for extra weekly dungeon runs is a reasonable goal.

The most important thing when leveling alts is to stay on the main story and not get distracted by side content you already cleared on your main. The knowledge you carry is what makes alts fast, so use it.

What Slows Down Your Leveling in AION 2

Knowing what to avoid is just as useful as knowing what to do. These are the most common things that make the leveling phase take longer than it needs to.

    Grinding Mobs Instead of Questing

This is the biggest time waster in AION 2. Random mob grinding gives a tiny fraction of the XP that Episode quests provide. Even when it feels efficient in the moment, it is almost never faster than following the main story. Stick to quests.

    Farming Sealed Dungeons Repeatedly

Sealed Dungeons give their permanent rewards — Daevanion Crystals, Skill Points, Enhance Stones — on the first clear only. Running them again and again gives very little in return. Clear each one once and move on. Do not treat them as a farming loop during the leveling phase.

    Over-Enhancing Leveling Gear

It is tempting to pour enhancement materials into your current armor and accessories. Do not do it. You will replace every piece of leveling gear at Level 45. Only enhance your weapon enough to keep combat comfortable. Save everything else for endgame gear that is actually worth investing in.

    Ignoring the Ascension Gauge

Many players hit the Ascension Gauge block at Levels 22 and 32 without knowing it is coming and spend time confused about why the story stopped. Now you know. When you hit the gauge, look for the nearest green Regional quests, complete three to four, and clear the gate. Do not try to grind mobs to fill it — quests are what count.

    Saving Daevanion Crystals

Some players hold onto Daevanion Crystals thinking they will use them more wisely later. Spend them the moment you get them. Each crystal is +1 permanent Item Level, and that benefit starts the second you spend it. There is no strategic reason to wait.

    Things That Make Leveling Faster

Activate Kibelisks (Travel Points) Along the Route

Kibelisks are fast-travel points scattered across the world. Register every one you pass. Travel time between quests is silent XP loss — fast travel cuts that dead time significantly, especially in the wider mid-game zones.

    Stack Nearby Side Quests

When green side quests cluster around the same hub as your current main quest, do them all together before moving to the next area. Coming back to the same zone later costs travel time. Get the quests done while you are already there.

    Learn Your Class Rotation Early

The faster you kill things, the faster you finish quests. Players who understand their class’s core skill chain from Level 10 onwards clear content noticeably faster than those still figuring out their rotation at Level 35. Spend a few minutes early on understanding which skills chain together and how your MP regenerates (basic attacks refill MP in AION 2).

Complete the Level 45 Ascension Quest

Do not skip the Ascension quest at Level 45 even if you feel ready for endgame. It rewards an Ascension Bracelet, a Unique accessory that can serve as your main bracelet for a long time. It is one of the best free items in the early endgame and the quest takes only a short time to complete.

    Use Food Buffs

Small combat buffs from food items add up over a long leveling session. Even basic consumables give enough of a boost to speed up mob kills, which compounds into noticeably faster quest completion over several hours of play.

Is Leveling Too Fast or Too Slow in AION 2?

This is worth addressing directly because it comes up often. AION 2 is a game that puts most of its content after the level cap. The leveling phase is intentionally designed to be short. Reaching Level 45 in 10 hours is not “going too fast.” It is working as intended.

The real game — Conquest dungeons, Transcendence, Arcana farming, Abyss PvP, and raids — all sit on the other side of Level 45. That content has no hard time wall and can take weeks or months to progress through depending on how much time you invest.

So do not feel pressured to slow down during leveling to “experience more content.” The experience is waiting for you at the cap. Get there, and then dig in.

Before you get started, check that your PC is ready — our AION 2 PC Requirements guide confirms what specs you need, and our AION 2 Best Settings Guide helps you get the smoothest possible performance during the leveling phase.

What Happens After You Hit Level 45?

The moment you reach Level 45, character leveling ends and Item Level progression begins. Your first priority is to finish any remaining Episode and Ascension quests, then start working through the permanent upgrade checklist: Sealed Dungeons, Strongholds, Regional Quests, and Empyrean Trace Feather turn-ins.

After that, you move into Conquest dungeons starting with Krao Cave and Draupnir at 700 Item Level, then step up the ladder toward Transcendence at 1,600 and eventually raid content at 2,800.

For everything to do after hitting the cap, our AION 2 What to Farm First guide walks through the full priority order.

AION 2: How Long to Reach Max Level — Final Answer

To put it simply: Level 45 takes 4 to 7 hours if you speedrun, 9 to 12 hours if you play efficiently with some side content, and 15 to 25 hours if you go casual and explore everything. First-time players should expect to land somewhere in the 10 to 15 hour range.

Follow the main Episode quest chain. Do not grind mobs. Clear each Sealed Dungeon and Stronghold once as you pass through. Spend Daevanion Crystals immediately. And when the Ascension Gauge blocks you at Levels 22 and 32, complete three to four nearby Regional quests and push through.

That is the whole leveling formula. It is not complicated — and once you hit 45, the real adventure starts.
