    By Lilly Daniels · October 7, 2026 · 14 min read
    Hidden Cube Locations AION 2

    TL;DR

    • There are 206 Hidden Cubes across four maps: Verteron (95), Eltnen (26), Altgard (59), and Morheim (26).
    • Verteron and Altgard cubes always need a Key: Hidden Cube to open. Eltnen and Morheim cubes can open for free or with a key for better loot.
    • Every cube gives 1,000 Soul Crystals guaranteed, plus Power Shards, Silentium, and more.
    • Keys come from quests, achievements, Monolith upgrades, Daily Attendance, and the shop.
    • The Who Brought the Chest? achievement refunds keys at milestones — always claim it.
    • Start farming in Eltnen or Morheim first — some cubes there open free, saving your keys for Verteron and Altgard.
    • Listen for the audio cue — a metallic shimmer sound tells you a cube is nearby.

What Are Hidden Cubes in AION 2?

Hidden Cubes are glowing chest-shaped collectibles scattered across the open world of AION 2. They are not just decoration — they give useful materials that contribute to your progression. Each cube requires pressing F to channel open over a few seconds, and the items pop out for you to pick up once the opening finishes.

    They come in two types:

    • Red Hidden Cubes — The standard type. These always require a Key: Hidden Cube to open and give the full reward table.
    • Gold Hidden Cubes — Rarer. These can be opened for free without a key, but give slightly fewer rewards than a keyed red cube.

On the Global client, every cube in Verteron and Altgard is key-only. Cubes in Eltnen and Morheim can spawn as either type, so you may find some you can open without spending a key. Always use a key on red cubes for the better loot table.

One important thing to know: cubes are shared spawns. Once someone else opens a cube, it is gone. If another player channels it before you finish, they take the reward. Open any cube you find immediately — do not wait.

How Many Hidden Cubes Are There in AION 2?

There are 206 Hidden Cubes in AION 2 Global across four field maps, each spawning at one of 3,722 possible candidate spots. Here is the breakdown by zone and faction:

AION 2 All Hidden Cube Locations
    • Verteron (Elyos) — 95 cubes across 1,440 possible spots. Always key-only.
    • Eltnen (Elyos) — 26 cubes across 456 possible spots. Can open free or with key.
    • Altgard (Asmodian) — 59 cubes across 1,371 possible spots. Always key-only.
    • Morheim (Asmodian) — 26 cubes across 455 possible spots. Can open free or with key.

The large number of candidate spots means no cube is guaranteed at any single location — each cube appears at one of its possible spots, and other players may claim it before you arrive. This is why sweeping full zones rather than checking a handful of exact coordinates is the more reliable approach.

    Hidden Cube Locations: Verteron (Elyos)

Verteron holds 95 Hidden Cubes — the most of any map. All 95 require a key. The cubes are spread across 23 sub-zones, but four zones hold the highest concentrations and are worth prioritizing when farming.

Hidden Cube Locations Verteron Elyos Aion 2

Best Zones for Hidden Cubes in Verteron

    • Altamia Canyon — 9 cubes across 90 possible spots. The single best zone on the Elyos map.
    • Ellun River Midstream — 7 cubes. Head to the top of the ravine west of the river, past Pamos Farm. These cubes are in elevated positions that most players walk past without checking.
    • Verteron Fortress Ruins — 7 cubes across 90 possible spots.
    • Aullaeu Village — 6 cubes across 95 possible spots.
    • Ellun River Marsh — 4 cubes.
    • Western and Eastern Cantas Valley — 4 cubes each.
    • Kraka Footpath — 4 cubes.
    • Forest of Exiles — 4 cubes.
    • Southern Altamia Highland — 4 cubes.
    • Pilgrim’s Ridge — 3 cubes.
    • Crimson Isle — 3 cubes.
    • Scarlet Forest, Drana Cultivation Area, Drana Processing Area, Eternal Isle, Southern Tolbas Forest, Eastern Tolbas Forest, Garden of the Illusion God — 2 cubes each.
    • Eastern Altamia Highland, Canyon Thieves Den, Rock Tomb Hill, Destroyed Temple Site — 1 cube each.

When farming Verteron, work the top four zones first — Altamia Canyon, Ellun River Midstream, Verteron Fortress Ruins, and Aullaeu Village together hold 29 of the 95 cubes on the map.

Many cubes in Verteron spawn in elevated spots — on cliff tops, rocky ledges, inside ruins, and near water. Use your flight to check high ground. Some also spawn underwater, so fly low over rivers and ponds as you pass through.

    Hidden Cube Locations: Eltnen (Elyos)

Eltnen has 26 Hidden Cubes spread across 456 possible spots in 8 sub-zones. Some cubes here can be opened without a key, making it a good starting point before burning through your key supply in Verteron.

Best Zones for Hidden Cubes in Eltnen

    • Eiron Hill — 7 cubes across 95 possible spots. The top zone on this map.
    • Eltnen Barrier Tower Ruins — 6 cubes across 65 possible spots.
    • Ruberein Highland — 5 cubes across 110 possible spots.
    • Mystic Spring of Anathe — 3 cubes.
    • Lankusis Highland — 2 cubes.
    • Eastern Dartas Plains, Fractured Land, Lepharist Research Center Annex — 1 cube each.

The top three zones — Eiron Hill, Eltnen Barrier Tower Ruins, and Ruberein Highland — hold 18 of the 26 cubes on the map. Cover those three and you have found the vast majority of what Eltnen offers.

    Hidden Cube Locations: Altgard (Asmodian)

Altgard holds 59 Hidden Cubes across 26 sub-zones and 1,371 possible spots. Like Verteron, every cube here is key-only. The zones are spread wide, but several concentration points make efficient farming possible.

Hidden Cube Locations Altgard Asmodian Aion 2
Hidden Cube Locations Altgard Asmodian Aion 2

Best Zones for Hidden Cubes in Altgard

    • Dredgion Crash Site — 6 cubes across 160 possible spots. This has the most candidate spots of any single zone in the game. Allow extra time here.
    • Purifying Forest — 4 cubes.
    • Battlescar Mound — 4 cubes.
    • Western Gribade Highland — 4 cubes.
    • Black Claw Village — 3 cubes.
    • Basfelt Ruins — 3 cubes.
    • Dranactus — 2 cubes.
    • Zemurru’s Tomb — 1 cube.

For Altgard, the community-recommended hunting ground is the area between Silent Hill and the Tranein Pond, covering the Fang Hideout and Temporary Retreat areas. These zones are accessible early, and the cubes here are easy to miss because of how they blend into the terrain.

Be patient in Dredgion Crash Site. With 160 possible spots and only 6 cubes, the search area is large. Fly low and slow through the whole crash site rather than just circling the edges.

    Hidden Cube Locations: Morheim (Asmodian)

Morheim has 26 Hidden Cubes spread across 455 possible spots in 8 sub-zones. Like Eltnen, some cubes here can be opened for free, making it worth starting here before spending keys in Altgard.

Best Zones for Hidden Cubes in Morheim

    • Nephra Snowfield — 7 cubes across 95 possible spots. The single best zone on the Asmodian side for cube density.
    • Iralcig Highland — 5 cubes.
    • Muspel Volcano Zone — 5 cubes.

The top three zones hold 17 of the 26 cubes in Morheim. Focus your farming there first and you will cover most of the map efficiently.

Hidden Cube in the Abyss (Reshanta)

There is 1 Hidden Cube in the Abyss, located in Reshanta. This cube sits in the Isle of the Immortals area on the Asmodian map, below the Sanctum Outpost, at a small teleport point at the end of that peninsula. It is flagged as high-level content. Only attempt this one when your character can handle the area, and try to go when server traffic is lighter since it is a single shared spawn.

How to Find Hidden Cubes: Tips

    Listen for the Audio Cue

The most reliable way to locate a hidden cube is your ears. Cubes emit a distinct metallic shimmer or humming sound that gets louder as you approach. Turn up your game audio and enable 3D Audio or headphone mode in your settings if available. You will hear a cube nearby before you can see it, especially if it is tucked behind a rock or on a ledge above you.

    Check High Ground and Edges

Hidden Cubes are deliberately placed in spots most players walk past. Look on cliff tops, rock faces, inside ruined structures, behind waterfalls, on narrow ledges, and in elevated corners. Your wings are your best tool — fly slow and low across areas rather than running at ground level.

    Check Underwater

A number of cubes spawn in rivers, ponds, and near shorelines. Do not skip water areas when sweeping through a zone. Fly low over any water body and dive if you suspect something below the surface.

    Open Immediately

The moment you find a cube, channel it open right away. Cubes are shared world objects — if another player finishes the channel before you do, they get the reward and the cube disappears. Do not stop to fight a mob or check your map. Open it first, then deal with everything else.

What Do Hidden Cubes Give You?

Every Hidden Cube opened with a key gives the following guaranteed and chance-based rewards:

    • Soul Crystals: 1,000 (guaranteed) — Used for Pet Genus Insight. Each 1,000 crystals pays for 250 Pet Analyzes.
    • Silentium: 10 guaranteed, with two 50% chances at 1 more — Sells to shops for 5,000 bound Kinah each, or used in other progression systems.
    • Soul Codex: 5 guaranteed
    • Power Shards or Superior Power Shards: 100–200
    • Mana Potions or Life Crystals: 50% chance
    • Resurrection Spiritstone: 50% chance
    • Small Odyle Energy (10 energy): 50% chance
    • Status Effect Resist Scroll: 40% chance

Across all 36 possible item types in the reward table, cubes can also give rarer finds such as Epic Theostones, wing appearance items, cosmetic skins, and crafting materials. The guaranteed 1,000 Soul Crystals alone make every opened cube worthwhile for Pet Genus progression.

To make the most of your Soul Crystals, check our AION 2 How to Get Pets Fast guide for how the Pet and Genus Insight system works.

How to Get Hidden Cube Keys

Keys are the main bottleneck for hidden cube farming. Here is every source:

    Quests and Commands

Keys drop from 262 quests and 28 achievements in the game data. Duty quests and Command quests are the most accessible ongoing sources. Any of the five possible Duty quest rewards can be a key, though not every quest guarantees one — the first reward slot always pays out, with decreasing probability on later slots. Complete your daily Duty missions every day and keys will accumulate steadily.

    Monolith Upgrades

Upgrading your faction’s Monolith is one of the most reliable key sources. Monolith levels 1 through 6 each give 1 key, and levels 7 and 8 each give 2 keys among other rewards. That is a total of 10 free keys from fully progressing a Monolith, plus whatever you earn alongside. Do not skip Monolith upgrades — they also contribute to permanent stat progression through amulet rewards.

    Daily Attendance

Log in consistently to claim attendance calendar rewards. Keys appear on the attendance reward track and rotate with other items. Check your current calendar and plan cube runs around confirmed key rewards rather than guessing from old calendars, since the contents change each season.

    Who Brought the Chest? Achievement

This is the achievement for opening Hidden Cubes, and it pays back a key at the following milestones: 3, 10, 30, 50, 100, 150, and 200 cubes opened. Always claim these rewards through your achievement panel when you hit a milestone. The 3-cube tier is especially useful early — opening just three cubes returns one key through the achievement, partially refunding your key spend.

    The Shop

Keys can be purchased from the Tsenka Merchant shop for 50 Quna each, up to 3 per day per character. They are also available from the A2 Mileage store for 2,000 Mileage and from the Season Shop for season currency. The Season 1 Starter pack from the cash shop includes 10 keys as a one-time purchase per character.

    Important Notes on Keys

    • Keys are bound to the character that earned them. They cannot go into Server Storage or be transferred to other characters.
    • If your alt has keys and your main has none, you will need to open cubes on that alt or earn separate keys on your main.
    • Some keys have an expiry period. Check the item tooltip for any time limit and plan your cube run before it expires.

    Best Hidden Cube Farming Route

Here is the most efficient approach to farming all cubes across the maps:

Step 1: Count Your Keys Before You Leave Town

In Verteron and Altgard, one key equals one cube. Before heading out, count your keys and plan how many cubes you want to open. Buy up to 3 shop keys if you have Quna and want a longer session. Check any open Duty quests first — they may drop keys during your pre-farm run.

Step 2: Start in Eltnen or Morheim

Begin your farming session in the maps where some cubes open for free. Sweep Eltnen (Elyos) or Morheim (Asmodian) first. Open gold/free cubes without spending keys, and use keys only on red cubes that require them. This stretches your key supply and warms up your farming route before the key-only zones.

Step 3: Farm Verteron or Altgard Zone by Zone

Move to the high-concentration zones next. In Verteron, start with Altamia Canyon, then Ellun River Midstream, Verteron Fortress Ruins, and Aullaeu Village. In Altgard, start with Dredgion Crash Site, then Battlescar Mound, Purifying Forest, and Western Gribade Highland. Fly slowly through each zone, listening for the audio cue and checking elevated terrain.

Step 4: Claim Achievement Rewards as You Go

Check your achievement panel after hitting the 3, 10, and 30 cube milestones. Each one rewards a key. Claiming them mid-session extends how many cubes you can open without stopping to farm more keys.

Step 5: Do Not Burn All Keys at Once

Cube locations reset on a schedule, not immediately. If you clear a zone and move on, do not rush back to re-check it right away. Space your farming sessions out and let spawn rotations refresh. Using keys on a freshly swept zone wastes them on already-claimed spots.

    Hidden Cube Mistakes to Avoid

    • Going to Verteron or Altgard without keys: You will find cubes you cannot open. Stock up before heading into key-only zones.
    • Ignoring Eltnen and Morheim: These maps have free-open cubes. They are easy Silentium and Soul Crystals at zero key cost.
    • Not claiming achievement rewards: The Who Brought the Chest? milestones refund keys. Missing them means you are farming with a handicap.
    • Waiting before opening: Cubes are shared. Another player can take the reward while you hesitate. Channel open the moment you find one.
    • Only checking ground level: Many cubes are placed specifically on high ground or underwater to be missed. Always fly and check elevated terrain.
    • Farming one zone repeatedly right away: Cubes do not respawn instantly at the same spots. Sweep broadly across zones rather than camping a single location.

Hidden Cubes and the Genus Insight System

The 1,000 Soul Crystals guaranteed from every cube make Hidden Cubes one of the best free sources for the Genus Insight system. Genus Insight gives permanent passive stat bonuses based on how many Pet species you own and how many Souls you collect per species. Soul Crystals fuel the Analyze function that progresses this system.

250 Analyzes per 1,000 crystals adds up fast across 206 cubes. If you plan on maximizing your Genus Insight bonuses, hidden cube farming is one of the most efficient ways to get there without relying only on mob grinding.

Using Interactive Maps for Hidden Cubes

Because cubes spawn at one of thousands of possible candidate spots and respawn over time, interactive maps are the best tool for serious cube hunters. Several community resources track all 3,722 spawn points across the four maps and let you check off cubes as you find them.

Recommended tools include aion2.th.gl, metabot.gg, and aion2hub.com — all of which have interactive maps filtered specifically to Hidden Cube spawn locations. These are updated regularly and let you track your progress zone by zone.

Final Tips for Hidden Cube Hunters

    • Enable 3D audio in settings — hearing the shimmer sound directionally makes cube hunting far faster.
    • Cube keys are character-bound. Plan which character you want to invest cube farming effort into and focus keys there.
    • The Starter Pack from the cash shop gives 10 keys per character — a good one-time boost for new players.
    • Do your Duty missions every day. The key drops from them accumulate into a reliable supply over time.
    • The Abyss cube in Reshanta is high-level content. Wait until you are geared for that area before attempting it.
