TL;DR
- Crossing the Threshold is an early side quest in Central, unlocked after getting Level 1 clearance.
- The archive cabinet code at the Field Hospital is 0665.
- After investigating the Field Hospital, Loading Docks, and Dig Site, you’ll find Wilson in a warehouse.
- To get both unique rewards: tell Wilson you believe him, then choose “I’ll take him.”
- Carry AVP-3 back to the Dig Site Threshold and enter the yellow zone to finish the quest.
- Rewards: Sensory Restraint Hood and Untapped Practice Knot Artifact Recipe.
Crossing the Threshold starts as a straightforward investigation but quickly gets strange. A headless FBC body, a Threshold expedition gone wrong, surveillance footage, a creature called AVP-3, and a researcher named Wilson who has a very different version of events.
The quest also has a choice at the end that directly determines whether you walk away with both unique rewards or nothing special at all. This guide covers the full walkthrough, the archive code, every investigation step, the correct Wilson dialogue, and how to reach the best ending.
Before starting this quest, make sure you’ve cleared the earlier main missions. Our Control Resonant Central Checkpoint power puzzle guide covers the relay mechanics you’ll need for those. And if you’re new to the game, check out our Control Resonant beginner tips first.
How to Start Crossing the Threshold
The quest becomes available in Central after Dylan obtains his Level 1 security clearance. That clearance card opens several previously locked areas around the FBC Field Base. For more on how clearance works throughout the game, see our Control Resonant SR Keycard clearance level guide.
Head to the Field Hospital and go to the quarantine area. You’ll find an FBC body with its head destroyed. Interact with it and report the discovery to Zoe over the radio. That triggers the investigation.

Step 1: Investigate the Field Hospital
Inside the quarantine area, examine the body behind the glass partition and report your findings to Zoe. Then look around the room for the Medic’s Assessment Recording. Play it.
This recording gives you the first real clue about what happened to the victim and connects the death to the Threshold expedition. It’s worth listening to fully before moving on.
Step 2: Find the Locked Archive Cabinet
Near the quarantine room is a locked archive cabinet. Interact with it — Dylan can’t open it without a code. Zoe doesn’t give you the number directly, so your next objective sends you to the Security Station.

Step 3: Go to the Security Station
The Security Station is near the Field Office in Central. It’s easy to spot — look for the bright orange shipping-container-style building with SECURITY STATION marked on it. Head inside and go upstairs. There are multiple computers here that you’ll use at different points during this quest.
Step 4: Get the Archive Cabinet Code
At the Security Station, use the computer terminal for the archive records. Cycle through the available screens until you find the relevant cabinet entry.
The code is:
0665
There’s no puzzle here. The number comes directly from the computer. Write it down or remember it before heading back.
Step 5: Return to the Field Hospital and Open the Cabinet
Go back to the Field Hospital quarantine area. Interact with the locked archive cabinet and enter 0665.
Inside you’ll find the Dig Site Threshold Quarantine List. Read it carefully. It connects several researchers to the Threshold expedition and pushes the investigation toward the Loading Docks.
Step 6: Investigate the Loading Docks
Follow the quest marker to the Field Office Loading Docks. There may be a garage shutter blocking the way — use the nearby panel to open it. Inside the loading area you’ll find another headless body. Investigate it and report to Zoe.
Step 7: Inspect the CCTV Camera
Don’t leave the Loading Docks yet. This is an easy step to miss.
Look around the room for the security camera and interact with it. Reporting the camera unlocks the surveillance footage objective back at the Security Station. If you skip this and go back to the station now, the next objective won’t make much sense. Inspect the body and the camera before you leave.

Step 8: Watch the Security Footage
Return to the Security Station and go upstairs again. Use the surveillance terminal to view the footage from the Loading Docks.
The video shows what happened during the Threshold expedition and makes the connection between AVP-3 and the deaths much clearer. Once you’ve watched it, the investigation moves toward the Dig Site.
Step 9: Investigate the Dig Site Threshold
Open the map and head to the Dig Site Threshold. The area is a large excavation with a distinctive yellow-glowing Threshold zone you’ll recognize immediately.
Find the headless body connected to the research team and report it to Zoe. Then search the surrounding area — you need to collect a couple of items before moving on.
Step 10: Collect Wilson’s ID Badge
Near the body, pick up Wilson’s ID badge. This gives Dylan access to the research station nearby. Don’t leave the Dig Site without it.
Step 11: Search the Research Station
Use Wilson’s credentials to enter the elevated research container. Inside, collect:
- Threshold Site Recording
- Mobile Research Station Keycard
- Parabiologist’s Notes
- Other expedition documents
These pieces of evidence explain what AVP-3 actually is and what happened to the research team. Read them before moving to the warehouse — the full picture makes Wilson’s explanation in the next step make more sense.

What Is AVP-3?
AVP-3 is a Threshold entity that behaves like an infant creature needing a living host. When a host dies, AVP-3 moves on and looks for another body. The strange decapitations aren’t traditional murders — they’re the aftermath of each host transfer. This reframes the entire quest from “find the killer” to “figure out what this entity is and what to do about it.”
Step 12: Find the Warehouse
After the Dig Site, the quest sends you to a warehouse. The route isn’t always obvious — the Field Base walls can block a direct path. Check your map for the correct exit from the base before heading out.
Once outside, expect a Hiss ambush on the way to the warehouse. Clear them and keep moving.
Step 13: Enter the Warehouse and Defeat the Hiss
The quest marker may appear near the roof of the warehouse, but the entrance is not on top. Go around to the northwestern side of the building and look for the actual door.
Inside, a group of Hiss enemies will attack. The fight includes airborne enemies and a tougher named enemy — Linus, a Hiss Pursuer – Apex. Linus hits hard at close range and uses fire-based attacks. Keep your distance, let his attack animations finish, then punish the openings. Take out the flying enemies first so you’re not getting hit from two directions.
Once the warehouse is clear, find the room where Wilson is waiting.
Step 14: Talk to Wilson — The Correct Dialogue Choices
This conversation is the most important part of the entire quest. The choices you make here directly determine whether you get the unique rewards.
Follow this dialogue path:
Choice 1: Select “What did you do to him?” — continue the conversation.
Choice 2: When the footage comes up, select “I saw something on the CCTV…”
Choice 3: When Wilson explains himself, choose “Calm down, I believe you.”
Choice 4 (the critical one): When asked what to do about AVP-3, select “I’ll take him.”
That last choice is what separates the reward ending from the no-reward ending. Believing Wilson alone isn’t enough — you must also choose to personally take AVP-3.
What Happens If You Choose Wrong?
If you accuse Wilson, demand quarantine, or believe him but choose to contain AVP-3 instead of taking it yourself, the outcome is the same: AVP-3 takes Wilson as its host. Wilson dies at the Dig Site. The quest completes, but you don’t receive either unique reward.
Here’s a quick breakdown:
- Believe Wilson + Take AVP-3 yourself → Best ending, both rewards
- Believe Wilson + Contain AVP-3 → Wilson dies, no rewards
- Accuse Wilson → Wilson dies, no rewards
- Demand quarantine → Wilson dies, no rewards
If you’re doing a completionist run, this is one quest where the dialogue wheel really matters.
Step 15: Carry AVP-3 to the Dig Site Threshold
After choosing “I’ll take him,” interact with the relevant object in the warehouse. AVP-3 transfers to Dylan. Your new objective is to transport the entity back to the Dig Site Threshold.
The fastest route is to climb up to the warehouse roof and move across toward the Dig Site marker from there. Use Dylan’s traversal abilities to reach the elevated platforms around the excavation, then drop into the glowing yellow Threshold area.
You don’t need to hit a specific prompt. Just enter the yellow zone while carrying AVP-3 and the quest completes.
Crossing the Threshold Rewards
Sensory Restraint Hood
An outfit reward tied exclusively to the best-ending path. If you’re collecting all of Dylan’s cosmetics, this is the only way to get it. Our Control Resonant skin codes guide covers other cosmetics available in the game.
Untapped Practice Knot Artifact Recipe
An Artifact Recipe that improves Falter buildup against heavier enemies. This is directly useful if your playstyle focuses on breaking enemy posture to set up executions — a common approach in tougher encounters later in the game.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the archive cabinet code in Crossing the Threshold?
The code is 0665. You get it from the computer terminal upstairs at the Security Station. Then return to the Field Hospital and enter it into the locked cabinet in the quarantine area.
How do I get the rewards in Crossing the Threshold?
When talking to Wilson in the warehouse, tell him you believe him and then choose “I’ll take him.” Dylan will personally carry AVP-3 back to the Dig Site Threshold. Enter the yellow Threshold zone to complete the quest and receive both rewards.
What happens if I choose to contain AVP-3?
Even if you believed Wilson, choosing containment over taking AVP-3 yourself leads to Wilson dying at the Dig Site. The quest can still be completed but neither unique reward is given.
Where is the warehouse entrance in Crossing the Threshold?
The quest marker appears near roof level, which is misleading. The actual entrance is on the northwestern side of the warehouse. Go around the building at ground level to find the door.
Where is the CCTV camera in the Loading Docks?
After finding the second headless body in the Loading Docks, look around the room for the security camera mounted on the wall. Interact with it and report your findings. This step is easy to miss but is required to unlock the surveillance footage objective.
What is AVP-3 in Control Resonant?
AVP-3 is a Threshold entity that requires a living host. When its current host dies, it transfers to a new body. This explains the unusual injuries on the expedition team — each death was a host transfer, not a conventional attack.
Who is Linus in the Crossing the Threshold warehouse?
Linus is a named Hiss Pursuer — Apex enemy encountered in the warehouse fight. He’s faster and harder-hitting than standard Hiss and uses fire-based attacks at close range. Keep your distance and attack during openings after his moves.
Can I still complete Crossing the Threshold after making the wrong dialogue choice?
Yes. The quest can be completed regardless of which choices you make. However, the Sensory Restraint Hood and Untapped Practice Knot Artifact Recipe are only awarded on the path where Dylan believes Wilson and personally takes AVP-3 to the Threshold.
What rewards do you get for Crossing the Threshold?
The best ending gives you the Sensory Restraint Hood (outfit) and the Untapped Practice Knot Artifact Recipe, which improves Falter buildup against heavy enemies. Both are exclusive to the correct dialogue path.
