What Is the Shotgun Shield?
The Shotgun Shield is a one-handed shield that absorbs enemy attacks and converts them into shotgun blasts. Every time you block 3 hits, you gain 1 charge. You can store up to 3 charges at once. Once you have charges loaded, you fire a burst of pellets at enemies right in front of you.
It’s not a passive piece of gear. You have to actively block, then actively fire. Players who like counter-based advanced combat will love this thing.

The Shotgun Shield is found in Helmara, an enemy-controlled camp in the Tashkalp region.
Here’s how to get there step by step:
Step 1 — Prepare before you go. Helmara is in a very hot area. If you don’t have heat-resistant armor equipped, you’ll lose health just from the environment. Make sure your gear offers some fire or heat protection before heading out.
Step 2 — Find Helmara on the map. Open your world map and look at the Tashkalp region label. Find the space between the “H” and the “K” in “Tashkalp.” Move your marker directly north from that point. You’re looking for a cluster of fortifications built into the rock.
Step 3 — Drop into the camp. Helmara is set below the surrounding terrain. You’ll need to drop or glide down into the camp from higher ground. Many players ride right past it without noticing the drop-down point, so look carefully.
Step 4 — Navigate to the east side. Once inside, head toward the east side of the camp. Go to the back left corner of that area. You’ll see a pile of scrap metal — the Shotgun Shield is lying right there among it.
You don’t need to kill every enemy in the camp to grab it. Just be careful not to trigger too many at once. If you get spotted by a large group, clear them out first before making your way to the loot.
Alternatively, the Shotgun Shield can also be obtained through a dispatch mission from the Aeronautical Research Base. If you have access to camp dispatching, this is a solid backup method if you missed the field pickup.
How to Use the Shotgun Shield
Once you have it, equip the Shotgun Shield from your quick slot in the shield slot.
Here’s the core combat loop:
Building charges: Hold L1 (or your block input) to block incoming enemy attacks. Every 3 blocked hits gives you 1 charge. The charges are shown on your HUD.
Firing the blast: Press L1 + R2 (on PlayStation) or the equivalent Skill 2 input to unleash a burst of pellets at point-blank range. This is the “Stormy Retribution” blast — it staggers enemies and deals solid damage.
Max charges: You can carry up to 3 charges at once. Don’t sit on them too long. Fire early and often.

Important Things to Know
Durability is limited. The Shotgun Shield has a durability stat of 50. That’s decent, but not high. If you try to tank heavy boss attacks without firing back, it’ll break faster than you expect. The shield rewards offensive blocking, not passive turtling.
Don’t block unblockable attacks. Red-glowing enemy attacks are unblockable. Trying to block these drains your durability hard. Dodge those instead and wait for normal attacks to build charges.
The blast requires active blocking. You can’t just fire whenever you want. The shotgun mechanic is tied directly to the blocking action. If you’re not actively holding block, the charge system won’t build.
The scrap pile respawns. If somehow you missed picking it up or lost it, the scrap pile in Helmara respawns after several in-game days or following a world reset. So it’s recoverable.
Is It Worth Getting?
Yes, especially if you enjoy a counter-attack playstyle. The Shotgun Shield turns blocking from a passive action into a core part of your offense. It works great in group fights where enemies swarm you — block a few hits, then blast the whole group back.
It’s also great for boss encounters where enemies attack in patterns. Once you learn the rhythm, you’ll always have charges ready to fire the moment they pause.
That said, it works best as a situational tool. Save it for tougher encounters and use a standard shield for routine trash mobs to preserve its durability.
