Lancer and the Queen pull you into a dress-up screen to pick an outfit for Susie ahead of her festival date with Noelle. The clothing options all come with their own silly stat descriptions, which makes it look like the choice matters. It really does not — at least not right now. After the opening section of Chapter 5, you make your way to the castle in the Dark World and bump into Lancer and the Queen. They are excited and want to help Susie get ready for her date. They drag you into the outfit design screen before you can even do much else in the chapter.
The interface is similar in style to the Thrash Machine builder from Chapter 2. You pick from multiple options across five clothing slots. Once you confirm your choices, the outfit is locked in and the chapter moves forward.
What You Can Customise
The outfit screen lets you pick five parts of Susie’s look for the festival:
- Hair
- Shirt
- Pants
- Hat
- Shoes
Every option comes with a short and deliberately ridiculous stat description. One of the outfit presets is even called something along the lines of “Outfit to thrash your date’s ass,” with the pants description reading that they have a large pocket to hold multiple guns. The tone is pure Deltarune humour — Toby Fox is clearly not taking this seriously, and neither should you.
Does the Susie Outfit Choice Actually Matter
No — not in Chapter 5. The outfit choice does not change the story, the date sequence, or anything that happens during the festival. The events with Noelle play out the same no matter what you pick. Noelle’s reaction is a laugh at how Susie is just being herself, and then the chapter continues normally.
One small fun detail: if you pick a Dark World item that has no Light World equivalent — like a hat or accessory that only exists in the Dark World — Susie walks out of the Dark World still wearing it. Noelle notices and finds it funny. It is a small bit of flavour, not a consequence.
The short answer is this: there are no bad choices. Every option leads to the same outcome. Pick what you find funniest, or build the outfit that feels most like Susie to you.
Could It Matter in Future Chapters
This is worth keeping in mind. Toby Fox has a long history of hiding consequences inside choices that look harmless. Small decisions from earlier chapters have come back to matter in later ones throughout the series.
With at least two chapters of Deltarune still to release, there is a non-zero chance the outfit choice gets referenced again somewhere down the line. Nothing in Chapter 5 confirms this, but the pattern in Deltarune means it cannot be ruled out. For now, treat it as a purely cosmetic moment and enjoy it for what it is.
Which Outfit Should You Pick
Since the choice has no gameplay impact in Chapter 5, the best answer is to pick whatever fits your personal vision of Susie. A few approaches players tend to go with:
- Go full Susie — pick the most aggressive, chaotic outfit available. It fits her personality and the descriptions are funnier.
- Go cute and clean — pick the more put-together options if you want Susie to actually look like she made an effort for the date.
- Mix and match — there are no locked combinations. Pick your favourite piece from each slot regardless of how they go together.
None of these paths changes anything. The date with Noelle goes well either way, and the chapter continues on its normal track.
What Happens After the Outfit Minigame
Once you lock in the outfit, the chapter moves forward. You eventually leave the castle and school, meet Noelle outside, and head to the festival. The Light World section of Chapter 5 is one of the strongest stretches of the game — with a lot of character moments between Susie, Noelle, and Kris before things take a darker turn at the flower shop.
