The Necromancer has had a rough couple of seasons in Diablo 4, but Season 14: Season of Death Awakening is a completely different story. The Bone Spirit build is back in a big way, and between the Lord of Hatred skill tree changes, the Astral Projection upgrade, and a Lidless Wall bug fix that quietly made the whole build explode in strength, this is arguably the best the class has felt since the early days.
If you’re looking for an S-Tier Necromancer build that can speed farm Helltides, blast through the Kurast Undercity, and push deep into the Pit, Bone Spirit is the one to run this season. Here’s everything you need to build it out.
- Season: Season 14, Season of Death Awakening
- Build type: Speed farming and Pit pushing
- Biggest strength: Incredible mobility, constant damage output, scales hard with Essence and Max Essence
- Biggest challenge: Essence management, especially in early gear stages
- Minimum requirement: Level 70, Torment 1 ready
How the Bone Spirit Necromancer Works in Season 14
The Astral Projection upgrade completely changes how Bone Spirit behaves. Instead of firing a homing projectile at a single target, the spirit orbits around the Necromancer, continuously damaging anything it passes through before exploding. The result is a playstyle that draws comparisons to the old Diablo 2 Hammerdin, weaving through enemy packs while orbiting spirits do the heavy lifting. Combine this with Sever’s updated Inexorable Reaper upgrade, which now scales movement speed with Attack Speed, and the Necromancer becomes one of the most mobile characters on the roster this season.
The one catch the build has always had is Essence management. Bone Spirit in its Astral Projection form consumes Essence on each cast rather than running on a cooldown, meaning you need reliable Essence regeneration to keep up the output. Fortunately, Season 14 gives the build several new tools to solve exactly that problem.
Best Skills for the Bone Spirit Necromancer
Here are the core skills to run on this build, along with the specific upgrades to take for each:
- Gift of Death Skeleton Mage – Converts Skeleton Mage into a Corpse Skill and provides a massive boost to Essence regeneration, making it the single most important resource tool in the build
- Inexorable Reaper Sever – Primarily a mobility skill that also generates corpses; movement speed now scales with Attack Speed, making it excellent for repositioning constantly
- Get Over Here! Corpse Tendrils – Pulls enemies toward you and applies Vulnerable, keeping packs tight for Bone Spirit to hit everything at once
- Blood Rush Blood Mist – Converts Blood Mist into a Mobility skill that also consumes Corpses, triggering the Aspect of Creeping Cadaver for additional Essence and movement speed
- Astral Projection Bone Spirit – The centerpiece of the build; the Core Skill upgrade gives it an Essence cost instead of a cooldown, and Astral Projection makes it orbit around the player
- Roll the Bones Bone Storm – The Ultimate of choice, providing Critical Strike Chance, Attack Speed, Barrier generation, and survivability as long as it stays active
It’s also worth putting a few points into Decrepify and Iron Maiden so the Blood Moon Breaches Mythic can proc their effects automatically whenever your summons deal damage.

Best Legendary Aspects for Bone Spirit
Most of the Legendary Aspect choices here focus on two things: buffing Bone Skill damage and solving the Essence problem.
- Aspect of Compound Fracture – Increases damage after landing 10 Critical Strikes, rewarding consistent aggressive play
- Aspect of Creeping Cadaver – Triggers a random Corpse Skill for every 20 meters traveled, ideally triggering Skeleton Mage for near-constant Essence regeneration while moving; also increases Movement Speed for 4 seconds per Corpse consumed
- Splintering Aspect – Increases damage dealt to Vulnerable enemies, which Corpse Tendrils applies consistently
- Aspect of Bursting Bones – Scales damage proportionally with the Necromancer’s Maximum Essence; the higher the Essence pool, the bigger the damage multiplier
- Aspect of Rapid Ossification – Reduces the cooldown of Bone Skills when spending 100 Essence, keeping Bone Storm active as much as possible for sustained Attack Speed and Crit Chance buffs
- Aspect of Deluge – Increases Maximum Primary Resource per stack of Overpower, helping maintain a high Essence ceiling to feed both Bursting Bones damage scaling and the build’s overall Essence appetite
Best Mythic Uniques for the Bone Spirit Necromancer
Season 14 changed the Mythic Unique landscape significantly, and the Bone Spirit build takes full advantage of the new options available. Here’s what to target:
- Crown of Lucion – The ideal Mythic helm now that Heir of Perdition was nerfed out of best-in-slot status. Crown of Lucion increases damage with every Resource-costing Skill used, stacking up to five times. It does increase the resource cost alongside the damage buff, which puts more strain on Essence, but Bone Spirit’s Astral Projection upgrade technically consumes Essence rather than spends it, meaning the build sidesteps the cost increase penalty more cleanly than other builds would
- Vengeful Sinew – The essential chest piece for this specific setup, targeting Bone Spirit directly with increased damage and an additional spirit explosion per cast, effectively multiplying the build’s output with every single spirit orbiting the player
- Blood Moon Breaches – Almost always worth equipping on any Necromancer build. Grants a free cast of Decrepify and Iron Maiden whenever your summons deal damage, which is why it’s worth investing a few skill points into both curses and upgrading them to Life Tap and Blood Maiden respectively
- Lidless Wall – Synergizes directly with Bone Storm by giving nearby enemies a chance to spawn an additional Bone Storm centered around them when hit, which a Season 14 bug fix made far more impactful than it was in previous seasons
Gameplay Rotation
Once the build is geared up, the actual loop becomes surprisingly smooth. Cast Bone Storm on cooldown to keep the Attack Speed and Crit Chance buffs active at all times. Use Sever to close gaps, generate corpses, and maintain Flesh-eater stacks, which need refreshing every eight seconds if no other corpses are available. Pull enemy packs together with Corpse Tendrils, apply Vulnerable, and then let orbiting Bone Spirits do the damage while repositioning with Blood Mist and Sever. The Creeping Cadaver Aspect handles Essence regeneration passively as long as you keep moving, which the build encourages constantly anyway.
What Makes Bone Spirit S-Tier This Season
The combination of unlimited mobility and passive damage output is what separates this build from most other Necromancer options right now. Sever and Blood Mist both double as Mobility Skills that actively fuel the build’s Essence engine through Creeping Cadaver triggers, meaning movement and resource generation are essentially the same mechanic. Tack on the multiple Bone Skill damage multipliers from Compound Fracture, Splintering, and Bursting Bones, and the build has both the speed to clear content fast and the raw damage to push deep into higher Pit tiers without falling apart.
Pit 115 clear times in the range of one to two minutes have been reported by players running fully optimized versions of this setup. For a class that was largely overshadowed last season, that’s a strong return to form, and one that should remain viable throughout the rest of Season 14.
