- RAM requirement is 16GB for both minimum and recommended.
- Storage needed: 60GB. No SSD required.
- The game supports DLSS (Nvidia) and FSR (AMD) — use them for easy FPS gains.
- Fog Quality and Contact Shadows are the two biggest FPS killers on lower-end systems.
- Steam Deck can run it but is not officially verified and performance is limited.
Can Your PC Run Enshrouded?
Enshrouded runs on a custom-built voxel engine that Keen Games developed specifically for this game. It looks beautiful — the lighting, the Shroud fog effects, the open world draw distances. But that visual quality comes with real hardware demands, especially on the GPU side.
The good news is that the Enshrouded PC requirements are not extreme. The minimum bar is low enough that most gaming PCs built in the last five years will clear it without trouble. Even the recommended specs are well within reach of a mid-range setup.
The 1.0 release also came with a dedicated performance pass from Keen Games. They specifically worked to improve frame rates on lower and mid-range systems ahead of the full launch. So if you played in Early Access and had issues, things should be better now.

Enshrouded Minimum PC Requirements
These are the bare minimum specs to get the game running. At minimum settings you should be able to hit a playable frame rate at 1080p, but expect to lower several graphical settings to get there.
- OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
- CPU: Intel Core i5-6400 (2.7 GHz, 4 Core) / AMD Ryzen 5 1500X (3.5 GHz, 4 Core)
- RAM: 16 GB
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 / AMD Radeon RX 580 / Intel Arc A380
- VRAM: 6 GB minimum — this applies to all GPUs listed
- Storage: 60 GB available space
- Internet: Broadband connection required
One thing worth highlighting here: the 6GB VRAM requirement is non-negotiable. Even at minimum settings, Enshrouded’s voxel world needs that VRAM to load properly. If your GPU has 4GB or less, you will likely hit crashes or severe stuttering regardless of other specs. This is the one requirement that trips up older mid-range cards.
Enshrouded Recommended PC Requirements
These are the specs to target for a smooth 1080p experience at high settings with consistently good frame rates. If you are on the recommended specs or above, you should not need to tinker much.
- OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)
- CPU: Intel Core i7-8700 (3.7 GHz, 6 Core) / AMD Ryzen 7 2700X (3.7 GHz, 8 Core)
- RAM: 16 GB
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super / AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT / Intel Arc A770
- VRAM: 6 GB minimum — 8 GB or more recommended for better performance
- Storage: 60 GB available space
- Internet: Broadband connection required
The jump between minimum and recommended is not enormous, but the six-core CPU makes a real difference in Enshrouded. The voxel engine is demanding on the CPU, especially in large built-up base areas and dense forest biomes. A six-core processor handles those situations significantly better than a four-core chip.

What GPU Do You Actually Need for Enshrouded?
The GPU side is where most players need to think carefully. The 6GB VRAM floor is firm. Beyond that, here is how common cards stack up at 1080p:
GTX 1060 6GB / RX 580 8GB (Minimum Tier)
These cards will run Enshrouded at 1080p on low-to-medium settings. Expect somewhere in the 40-60 FPS range depending on the area. Turn Fog Quality to Low, disable Contact Shadows, and use FSR or DLSS if available. Playable but not comfortable without settings work.
RTX 2060 / RX 5700 XT (Mid-Range)
This range sits between minimum and recommended. You can run 1080p at medium-high settings comfortably with DLSS or FSR enabled. A solid experience overall.
RTX 2070 Super / RX 6700 XT (Recommended Tier)
High settings at 1080p with smooth frame rates. 1440p is also achievable at medium settings with upscaling on. This is the sweet spot for Enshrouded right now.
RTX 3060 / RX 6600 XT and Above
These cards handle 1080p at high-to-ultra settings without needing to compromise much. Community benchmarks put an RTX 3060 at around 77 FPS at 1080p with optimized settings, which is very comfortable for a game like this.
RTX 4070 / RX 7800 XT and Above
1440p at high settings becomes the norm here. These cards give you the headroom to turn settings up fully and still maintain excellent frame rates across all biomes including heavy Shroud zones.

Best Graphics Settings for Enshrouded – Performance Guide
Even on a strong PC, a few settings in Enshrouded hit frame rates harder than others. Here is what to adjust for the best balance of performance and visual quality.
Settings That Hit FPS the Hardest
- Fog Quality — This is the biggest one. Because the Shroud is such a core part of the game, volumetric fog is rendered constantly. Set it to Low or Performance if you are on a weaker system. The community consistently flags this as the single best FPS recovery setting in Enshrouded.
- Contact Shadows — Turn this Off. It causes flickering artifacts in forests and hits performance hard. Disabling it has almost no visible downside and gives a meaningful FPS boost.
- Voxel Detail Models — Lower this on CPU-limited machines. The voxel engine places heavy CPU strain on terrain detail. Reducing Voxel Detail Models is essential on four-core or older processors.
- Small Foliage — Set to Performance or Off on low-end systems. The world is packed with grass and plant detail that adds up fast on older hardware.
- Shadow Quality — Set to Performance on lower-end setups. Shadows are always one of the biggest GPU cost items in any game and Enshrouded is no exception.
- Point Light Shadows — Set to Performance. Low visual impact at distance, meaningful FPS saving near base lighting.
Settings That Are Safe to Keep High
- Texture Resolution — This affects VRAM use, not raw FPS. As long as you have 6GB+ VRAM, keep this at High for visual quality with minimal frame rate cost.
- Reflections — Surprisingly low performance cost in Enshrouded. Keep this at Quality unless you are genuinely struggling for FPS.
- Anti-Aliasing — Use DLSS on Nvidia cards or FSR on AMD. Both upscalers give 20-30 FPS gains with minimal visual quality loss. Set DLSS to Balanced or Quality depending on your target. Do not use FXAA — it looks acceptable but gives you none of the performance benefit of DLSS or FSR.
Recommended Optimized Settings for Low-End PCs
- Display Mode: Fullscreen
- Anti-Aliasing / Upscaling: DLSS Balanced (Nvidia) or FSR Quality (AMD)
- Texture Resolution: High
- Shadow Quality: Performance
- Fog Quality: Low
- Contact Shadows: Off
- Small Foliage: Performance or Off
- Tesselation: Performance
- Voxel Detail Models: Low
- Reflections: Quality
- Volumetric Shadow Quality: Performance
- Point Light Shadows: Performance
These settings will recover a large portion of your FPS without making the game look bad. Fog, shadows, and foliage are where the budget goes on low-end hardware. Textures and reflections are safe to keep up.
One Extra Tip – Lock Your Frame Rate
A lot of players report that Enshrouded feels smoother when capped at 60 FPS rather than running fully uncapped. The voxel engine can produce inconsistent frame pacing when uncapped on mid-range hardware. If you are getting variable FPS and it feels rough despite a decent average, try locking it to 60 and see if it smooths out.
Does Enshrouded Run on Steam Deck?
Technically yes, but not officially. Enshrouded is listed as Unverified on Steam Deck’s compatibility page. The game does launch and run using Proton, and full gamepad support works. However, performance is poor at default settings.
On the Steam Deck OLED, the default settings struggle to even hit 30 FPS consistently. The voxel engine is simply too GPU-hungry for the Steam Deck’s hardware to handle well. You can tweak settings significantly to improve things, but it is not a comfortable experience and we would not recommend it as a primary way to play Enshrouded.
If you want to try it anyway, use Proton 8 or Proton Experimental, lower everything to the minimum settings, and manage expectations. It works, but it is not optimized for the device.
Does Enshrouded Need an SSD?
No. Enshrouded does not require an SSD. There are essentially no loading screens in the game — the world is a seamless open environment — so a standard hard drive works fine. That said, if you do have an SSD available, installing there will improve startup times and any asset streaming that happens in the background.
How Much Storage Does Enshrouded Need?
Enshrouded needs 60 GB of free storage. This is about average for a modern game. The 1.0 release with its new biome and content additions may push this slightly higher over time, so having a little extra headroom on your drive is sensible.
Does Enshrouded Support Windows 11?
Yes. The official requirement lists Windows 10 as the minimum, but Enshrouded runs on Windows 11 without issues. If you are on Windows 11, you should have no compatibility problems.
Enshrouded PC Requirements – FAQ
What are the minimum PC specs for Enshrouded?
Minimum specs are: Windows 10 (64-bit), Intel i5-6400 or AMD Ryzen 5 1500X, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GTX 1060 or AMD RX 580 with 6GB VRAM, and 60GB storage. No SSD required.
How much VRAM does Enshrouded need?
At least 6GB VRAM. This is a hard requirement for all supported GPUs. Cards with 4GB VRAM will struggle significantly even at minimum settings.
Can I run Enshrouded on a GTX 1060?
Yes, the GTX 1060 6GB is the minimum supported Nvidia card. You will need to lower Fog Quality, disable Contact Shadows, and use FSR or FXAA for upscaling to get a playable frame rate at 1080p.
Can I run Enshrouded on an RX 580?
Yes, as long as it is the 8GB version which meets the 6GB VRAM requirement. Performance at minimum will be similar to the GTX 1060 — playable at 1080p with low settings and FSR enabled.
Does Enshrouded support DLSS?
Yes. DLSS is supported for Nvidia RTX cards. Set it to Balanced or Quality mode for the best combination of FPS gain and visual quality. This is the single biggest performance improvement available on RTX hardware.
Does Enshrouded support AMD FSR?
Yes. FSR 2 is supported and works on all GPUs, not just AMD cards. It is the best upscaling option if you do not have an Nvidia RTX card for DLSS.
Can I play Enshrouded on a laptop?
Yes, if your laptop meets the minimum specs. The key requirement to check is VRAM — laptop GPUs with less than 6GB VRAM will struggle. A laptop with an RTX 3060 or above should handle Enshrouded at 1080p comfortably.
Why does my FPS drop so much inside the Shroud?
The Shroud uses volumetric fog rendering which is one of the most GPU-intensive settings in the game. If FPS drops sharply when entering the Shroud, set Fog Quality to Low. That is the primary fix for this issue and the most commonly recommended community setting tweak for performance.
Does Enshrouded have performance issues in big bases?
This is a known limitation of the voxel engine. Very large or complex player bases increase both CPU and GPU load. If you notice FPS drops specifically in your base, lower Voxel Detail Models and reduce the overall complexity of the build. The 1.0 release includes a performance pass specifically targeting this issue.
Is 16GB RAM enough for Enshrouded?
Yes. Both the minimum and recommended specs call for 16GB RAM. More RAM above that will not improve Enshrouded’s performance meaningfully. 16GB is the sweet spot for this game.
