The Ribbon is one of the most useful accessories in Final Fantasy Resonance. It nullifies all status ailments except Instant Death โ equip it and Blind, Confuse, Doom, Sleep, Paralysis, Poison, Silence, and more simply do not land on that character. In a game built around status-heavy bosses, the Ribbon is worth chasing.
There are only two ways to get one: a rare drop from Archwitch Fina or a rare steal from Messalina. Neither is easy. Here is everything you need to know.
- The Ribbon nullifies all status ailments except Instant Death.
- It is an Accessory slot item with a buy price of 1,000 Gil and a sell price of 250 Gil.
- It is obtained from two sources only: a 1% drop from Archwitch Fina, or a 5% rare steal from Messalina.
- Archwitch Fina is a Level 38 story boss fought in Chapter 5 (Fina’s Psyche).
- Messalina is a Level 52 optional endgame enemy found in Crystal Tower 2.
- There is no chest, shop, or quest that gives the Ribbon โ those two enemies are the only sources in the game data.
- An upgraded version called the Super Ribbon also exists โ it nullifies all status ailments including Instant Death.
What Does the Ribbon Do in Final Fantasy Resonance?
The Ribbon’s passive effect โ simply called Ribbon โ grants immunity to every status ailment in the game except Instant Death. That means the following cannot land on the equipped character:
- Poison
- Blind
- Sleep
- Silence
- Paralysis
- Confusion (Confuse)
- Petrify
- Charm
- Berserk
- Slow
- Doom
- Strength Down, Stamina Down, Magic Down, Spirit Down
Instant Death remains a threat regardless โ you need a separate accessory or passive to block that. But covering everything else with a single accessory slot is extraordinary value, especially against bosses like the Phantom Train True Form (which uses Doom, Blind, Confuse, and Sleep all at once) or the Sanctissimus Shrine gauntlet where enemies cycle through different status types every fight.
Equipping the Ribbon completely removes the need for Esuna on that character. Your Medic can focus on HP healing instead of spending every other turn cleansing debuffs. On fights with heavy status pressure, this changes the pace of the whole battle.
How to Get the Ribbon โ All Methods
There are exactly two sources in the current game data. No treasure chests, no shops, no quest rewards. You are farming one of these two enemies.
Method 1 โ Drop from Archwitch Fina (1% Base Chance)
Archwitch Fina is a Level 38 story boss fought during Chapter 5: Scars of Time, inside Fina’s Psyche. She drops the Ribbon at a 1% base chance.
This is the more accessible of the two methods since Archwitch Fina is a story boss โ you will fight her as part of normal progression through Chapter 5. The problem is the drop rate. At 1%, you will need multiple runs to get the Ribbon this way, which means replaying her fight repeatedly or working toward a steal setup instead.
Archwitch Fina’s stats for reference:
- Level: 38
- Type: Human / Boss
- Weakness: Light
- Resistance: Dark (Halved)
She is weak to Light so Firion’s Vision helps here. For a guide on the fight and the character, see our Archwitch Fina character guide.
Method 2 โ Rare Steal from Messalina (5% Base Chance)
Messalina is a Level 52 optional enemy found in Crystal Tower 2, the endgame dungeon. The Ribbon is her rare steal at a 5% base steal chance.
This is actually the more reliable method once you reach the endgame, because the 5% steal rate is five times higher than the 1% drop from Archwitch Fina. With a thief-style skill or a Vision that boosts steal rates, this becomes the fastest consistent source. You do need to be well into the late game to access Crystal Tower 2, but if you are at that point and want Ribbons for your whole party, Messalina is your best target.
Messalina’s stats for reference:
- Level: 52
- Type: Demon
- Location: Crystal Tower 2
- Weakness: Wind
- HP: 57,700
- Notable traits: Powerful and difficult to stagger, but drops and steals are generous when you do get them. Uses Instant Death, Paralysis, Poison, and Silence attacks.
- Status immunities: None โ she is vulnerable to every status ailment at 0% resistance.
The last point matters. Messalina has no resistance to any status ailment. That means you can apply Slow, Paralysis, Poison, Strength Down, Magic Down โ whatever your Saboteur can deliver โ to make the fight far more manageable despite her high level and HP.
Tips for Farming the Ribbon

Farming Archwitch Fina (Early Game Option)
Archwitch Fina is a story boss, so you need to reach Chapter 5 to fight her. Once you are past her point in the story, she is accessible as a refightable encounter through the Chamber of Arms or post-game content if the game offers it. At 1% base drop rate you are looking at a long grind for multiple copies. She is easier than Messalina to defeat, so if you just want one Ribbon early and have the patience, keep resetting this fight.
Bring Light attackers to exploit her weakness and shorten each attempt. The faster you end the fight, the more runs you can do per session.
Farming Messalina (Late Game, Better Rate)
Messalina is the smarter target once you reach Crystal Tower 2. The 5% steal rate is much more efficient than the 1% drop. To maximise steal attempts:
- Bring a character who can steal reliably โ a Vision or equipment that improves steal rate helps.
- Messalina has 0% resistance to every status, so open with Slow to give yourself more turns before she acts. With Slow applied she takes more turns per cycle, which means more steal opportunities.
- She uses Instant Death, Paralysis, Poison, and Silence against your party โ equip protection or bring Esuna before farming her.
- She is labelled “powerful and difficult to stagger” โ don’t rely on quick staggers. Build toward it steadily.
Wind attacks hit her weakness. A Wind-capable Breaker will get stagger phases more consistently, which opens Bonus Phase windows to steal again.
The Super Ribbon โ Full Status Immunity Including Instant Death
There is an upgraded version of the Ribbon called the Super Ribbon. Its effect is nearly identical but with one critical difference: it nullifies all status ailments including Instant Death. The regular Ribbon stops everything except Instant Death โ the Super Ribbon has no exceptions at all.
The Super Ribbon has a buy price of 1,500 Gil and a sell price of 370 Gil. Its exact sources are not listed in the current confirmed game data, but given how the Ribbon itself is obtained, the Super Ribbon is likely from endgame or post-game content. If you are chasing complete status immunity for high-difficulty fights, the Super Ribbon is the final goal.
Which Fights Make the Ribbon Worth Getting
The Ribbon pays off most in fights with heavy status variety โ bosses that mix Doom, Confuse, Blind, and Sleep all into one encounter. Here are a few where it directly changes how you manage the fight:
Phantom Train True Form
This is the boss people most often want the Ribbon for. The Phantom Train True Form uses Doom, Blind, and Confuse as its main battle traits, on top of a Sleep move. Without the Ribbon you need Esuna every single time a debuff lands. With the Ribbon equipped on your most important character โ your Breaker or your main attacker โ those debuffs simply never land, and your Medic can focus entirely on HP recovery.
The Call from Beyond Quest Boss
If you are doing The Call from Beyond side quest, the Phantom Train True Form is the final obstacle. Getting a Ribbon before this quest makes the fight much cleaner.
Sanctissimus Shrine Gauntlet
Chapter 6’s Sanctissimus Shrine is a series of back-to-back boss encounters. Several of them use different status attacks. Running the Ribbon on your primary attacker or your Medic means you cover one character completely, so at least one party member is reliable throughout the whole chain.
Crystal Tower Enemies
Endgame enemies in Crystal Tower use high-level status moves regularly. By the time you are deep into the Crystal Tower, having Ribbons on your key characters is essentially expected if you are playing on normal or higher difficulty.
Ribbon vs Individual Status Accessories
The game has several accessories that block individual statuses. The Monk’s Prayer Beads block Charm. Other accessories handle Poison, Blind, or Paralysis separately. The question is always whether to slot one of those or hold out for the Ribbon.
Here is how to think about it:
- If you are fighting a specific boss that only uses one or two status types, a targeted accessory is fine and easier to get.
- If you are going into a fight like the Phantom Train True Form that mixes four different status types, the Ribbon is the only practical solution โ you cannot cover four statuses with four separate accessories.
- For your Medic specifically, the Ribbon is worth the slot: a Medic who gets Confused will heal enemies; a Medic who gets Silenced cannot cast spells at all. Protecting the Medic slot is highest priority.

Ribbon in Final Fantasy Series History
The Ribbon is a recurring accessory across nearly every mainline Final Fantasy title. It almost always grants blanket status immunity, making it one of the most sought-after pieces of equipment in every game it appears in. Final Fantasy Resonance follows that tradition โ the Ribbon here has the exact same philosophy as it does in FFVI, FFVII, FFXII, and others: hard to get, absolutely worth it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Ribbon do in Final Fantasy Resonance?
The Ribbon nullifies all status ailments except Instant Death. This includes Blind, Confuse, Doom, Sleep, Paralysis, Silence, Slow, Poison, Charm, Berserk, Petrify, and all stat-down debuffs.
Where do you get the Ribbon in Final Fantasy Resonance?
There are two sources: a 1% base drop from Archwitch Fina (Level 38, Chapter 5 story boss in Fina’s Psyche), and a 5% rare steal from Messalina (Level 52, Crystal Tower 2).
Is there a shop that sells the Ribbon?
No. The Ribbon cannot be purchased from any shop. The only ways to get it are the drop from Archwitch Fina and the steal from Messalina.
What is the difference between the Ribbon and the Super Ribbon?
The Ribbon nullifies all status ailments except Instant Death. The Super Ribbon nullifies all status ailments including Instant Death โ complete immunity. The Super Ribbon is the endgame upgrade of the Ribbon.
Which method is better for farming the Ribbon โ drop or steal?
The steal from Messalina (5%) is a higher probability than the drop from Archwitch Fina (1%). If you are in the endgame and can access Crystal Tower 2, farming Messalina with a steal-capable character is more efficient. Archwitch Fina is better if you want to try earlier in the game.
What character should I give the Ribbon to first?
Your Medic is the priority. A Medic who gets Confused attacks her own party, and a Silenced Medic cannot heal. Protecting the healer with the Ribbon keeps your whole party safer. After that, prioritise your main attacker or Breaker in fights with heavy status pressure.
