The Call from Beyond is Sub Quest 11 in Final Fantasy Resonance. It becomes available after you finish Chapter 4 and it sends you to an abandoned train station in southern Zoldaad. Once inside, you need to question passengers, work out who is lying, give the right answers to Camille’s deduction prompts, and then fight the Phantom Train True Form boss. The reward is the Camille Vision โ a Commando with Water and Earth attacks โ plus Magicite.
This guide covers every step in order, including the three correct interrogation answers and full boss preparation.
- Unlock: Complete Chapter 4, then speak to the Bewildered Man in Zoldaad’s Residential District.
- Location: Phantom Train, northwest of Pyroviper Cave in southern Zoldaad.
- Steps: Talk to 4 passengers in the first car, then 2 passengers in the next car, answer Camille’s deductions, expose the lying witness, then fight the boss.
- Correct answers: “General Wilhelm’s men” โ “Exposing Lazarov” โ “The remorse of the soldiers.”
- Boss: Phantom Train True Form โ Level 32, weak to Ice and Light.
- Rewards: Camille Vision (Commando), Magicite.
- This quest unlocks Sub Quest 13: O General! My General!, which rewards the Wilhelm Vision.
How to Unlock The Call from Beyond
The quest becomes available after completing Chapter 4: Banner Oath. Once the events in Zoldaad are wrapped up and you have moved into Chapter 5, return to the Zoldaad Residential District. Speak with the Bewildered Man standing on the left side near the station. He tells you about a phantom train spotted at an abandoned station in southern Zoldaad โ that starts the quest.
This is a Chapter 5 side quest in terms of timing, even though Zoldaad is the Chapter 4 region. You need to have the airship or world map access to reach the southern part of Zoldaad where the quest takes place. Come back to Zoldaad after you unlock free exploration in Chapter 5.
For the full list of every side quest and when they open up, see our Final Fantasy Resonance all sub quests list.
How to Get to the Phantom Train
After speaking to the Bewildered Man, a marker appears on your map. Head to the objective point northwest of Pyroviper Cave, in the southern part of Zoldaad. Pyroviper Cave is one of the Cave Master locations in Zoldaad โ the Phantom Train’s abandoned station is nearby, just northwest of it.
The area is in the volcanic south of the region. Follow the path toward the objective marker and you will reach the old train station. Approach the Phantom Train to board it.
Step 1 โ Question the Four Passengers in the First Car
Once you are on the train, move through the first carriage and speak with all four passengers. Each one gives a different account of what happened. Listen to all of them โ you need the full picture before the deduction phase. None of the conversations are skippable and you have to talk to all four before the game moves forward.
The passengers describe what they saw and experienced on the night the train was involved in an incident. Their accounts cover who was on the train, what those people were doing, and what the aftermath looked like.
Step 2 โ Question the Two Passengers in the Next Car
Continue through the train to the next carriage. There are two more passengers here. Speak with both of them. These accounts add detail to the picture โ particularly regarding what the soldiers on the train were really there for.
After speaking with all six passengers, Camille steps in to go over everything you have learned. She asks you two questions to lock in the deductions.

Step 3 โ Answer Camille’s Two Deduction Questions
This is where players often get stuck. Camille asks you two questions based on the passenger accounts. You need the correct answers to proceed. Here they are:
Question 1: Who Was on the Train?
Answer: “General Wilhelm’s men”
Question 2: What Was Their Mission?
Answer: “Exposing Lazarov”
Both of these answers follow directly from the testimonies if you read them carefully. The soldiers on the train were Wilhelm’s โ part of a covert operation โ and their actual goal was to gather evidence against Lazarov, the villain from Chapter 4. Choosing the wrong answers is not a hard fail; you can try again. But picking the right ones first keeps the quest moving.
Step 4 โ Return to the First Car and Confront the Lying Witness
After you give Camille both correct answers, the investigation is not over yet. Go back to the first carriage and speak with the blonde Civilian Woman. She is the passenger whose account does not match the others โ her testimony about the clean-up after the crash contradicts what Wilhelm’s soldiers would have done.
When she asks what kept the train running after the incident, answer:
“The remorse of the soldiers”
This is the third and final correct answer. Her account breaks down under questioning and the truth comes out. The confrontation reveals the Phantom Train’s connection to the fate of Wilhelm’s men โ and triggers the boss fight.

Step 5 โ Defeat the Phantom Train True Form
After confronting the lying witness, the Phantom Train True Form appears. This is a Level 32 Reaper-type boss and the final obstacle of the quest. Do not skip preparation before heading into this quest if you have not beaten it before.
Boss Weaknesses
The Phantom Train True Form is weak to both Ice and Light. Bring characters with at least one of these elements covered. Fire, Thunder, Earth, Wind, Water, and Dark all deal normal damage โ none are resisted, but none are boosted either. Ice and Light are your fastest route to stagger and to dealing meaningful damage.
The Big Danger: Status Effects
This boss uses Doom, Instant Death, Blind, and Confuse throughout the fight. Doom counts down to Instant Death; Confuse makes affected characters attack their own party; Blind causes physical misses. Bringing a character with Esuna โ or equivalent status cleansing โ is essential. Without it the fight becomes very difficult to manage.
Recommended Setup
- Medic with Esuna: Fina with the Leah Vision is the standard pick. Keep her MP high and treat Doom removal as the top priority every turn it lands.
- Ice attacker: Any character with Ice magic covers one weakness. Terra or Tronn Vision work well here.
- Light attacker: Firion’s Vision covers Light. His Fulminating Strike gives a 50% stagger buff for 3 turns and fits perfectly in this fight.
- Instant Death protection: Equip any accessory that blocks Instant Death before entering. The boss uses direct Instant Death attacks on top of Doom.
For the complete boss strategy including all moves and stat debuff options, see our Phantom Train True Form boss guide.
Recommended Level
The boss is Level 32. Being at Level 30 or above is comfortable. If you are doing this quest at the start of Chapter 5, your party should be close to that range from Chapter 4 story content. A couple of extra levels from side content or optional fights in Zoldaad will help if you feel underpowered.
Quest Rewards โ Camille Vision and Magicite
Defeating the Phantom Train True Form ends the quest. You receive:
- Camille Vision โ Commando role, with Water and Earth physical attacks. Her Resonance skill is Alluvial Undertow, which deals Water physical damage to one enemy.
- Magicite โ used to awaken Visions and increase their power.
About Camille
Camille is a Commando Vision from the original Final Fantasy Resonance story โ she is one of nine characters native to this game rather than a series legacy hero. Her kit focuses on physical damage with Water and Earth elements. Notable abilities from her Mastery and Awakening ranks include:
- Restore MP when Taking Damage (Mastery 1) โ Restores 3% of max MP on each hit received.
- Preemptive Strike (Mastery 3) โ Increases damage by 30% when attacking an enemy who has not yet acted in that round.
- Blade Dance (Mastery 5) โ A Battle Skill that hits an enemy 4 times.
- Alluvial Edge (Awakening 4 passive) โ Increases damage dealt by Camille’s skills, and the bonus scales with how many allies are under the Haste effect.
- Haste synergy โ Camille’s damage ceiling scales with your Synergist’s ability to apply Haste to the party. In a properly buffed team she hits noticeably harder.
Her Resonance skill, Alluvial Undertow, gives you a reliable Water physical damage option โ useful in fights against Fire-weak bosses like the Ifrit Esper fight.

What Unlocks After The Call from Beyond
Completing The Call from Beyond is a prerequisite for Sub Quest 13: O General! My General!. To start that quest, go to Zoldaad Castle Plaza and speak with Ozetta, the soldier near the juggler. This quest involves exploring marked camps, advancing through the Weapons Factory, and finding Foxie. Its reward is the Wilhelm Vision and Magicite Cryst.
Wilhelm is a Sentinel-role Vision focused on protecting allies. The two quests are directly chained โ you cannot start O General! until The Call from Beyond is done, and Camille herself carries a clue from the Phantom Train that matters in the follow-up investigation.
If you want to see both available Visions from this chain before investing Magicite, check our Final Fantasy Resonance all Visions list and our best Visions tier list to see where Camille and Wilhelm rank.
