Ifrit is a Fire-element boss you fight in Final Fantasy Resonance as part of the Esper unlock system. He hits hard with fire attacks, gets angrier the more you hit him, and has a unique trait that actually lets you calm him down mid-fight. This guide covers everything โ his weakness, full move list, battle traits, and the best way to beat him.
- Ifrit is a Level 33 Fire boss found in the Infernal Hollow in Zoldaad.
- He is immune to Fire and weak to Water โ bring Water attackers.
- He has 96,000 HP and drops Magicite upon defeat.
- He uses a mix of physical and fire-based skills โ including the multi-hit Fira Barrage and the party-wide Scorched Earth.
- He has a rage mechanic โ repeated hits cause him to enrage and deal more damage.
- A Water attack can calm him down when enraged, which is critical to managing the fight.
- Beating Ifrit unlocks him as an Esper with the finishing move Hellfire.
Where to Find Ifrit in Final Fantasy Resonance
Ifrit is located in the Infernal Hollow, which is accessed from Zoldaad. You reach this area during Chapter 4 of the main story. Zoldaad is the Fire-element region of Lapis, so the dungeon design and enemies here are all built around fire and heat โ Ifrit fits right in.
To get Ifrit as an Esper, you need to find the Infernal Hollow and defeat him inside. He then joins your team and can be summoned in battle, unleashing his signature Hellfire finishing move. The fight itself is classified as a Trial at Level 33 with 96,000 HP, so come prepared.
For the full list of all Espers and their locations, see our Final Fantasy Resonance all Esper locations guide.
Ifrit Weakness and Resistances
The most important thing to know before this fight is simple: Ifrit is immune to Fire and weak to Water. Never use Fire attacks against him โ they deal zero damage. Water attacks, on the other hand, hit his weakness and deal extra damage. They also trigger a unique battle trait that helps you survive the fight (more on that below).
Here is his full elemental chart:
- Immune: Fire
- Weak: Water
- Normal: Ice, Wind, Earth, Thunder, Light, Dark
Do not waste your MP on Thunder, Ice, or Earth spells here. They deal standard damage and won’t stagger him any faster than a basic physical hit. Stick to Water and you will get through the fight much more efficiently.
Status Ailment Resistances
Ifrit has high resistance to most debuffs, but a few still work on him. Here is the full breakdown:
- Immune (100%): Poison, Sleep, Silence, Confusion, Berserk, Charm, Instant Death, Gravity
- Resistant (80%): Blind, Paralysis
- Partial resistance (30%): Slow, Strength Down, Stamina Down, Magic Down, Spirit Down
- Vulnerable (0%): Doom
The 30% resistance on stat debuffs means they can land occasionally. A Saboteur who can apply Strength Down or Magic Down is worth bringing to reduce incoming damage. Slow can also work from time to time, which lets your party act more often relative to Ifrit.
Ifrit’s Full Move List
Ifrit has eight moves. Some are physical hits, others are fire-based magic. Here is every attack you will see in this fight:
- Crush โ A basic physical strike.
- Flatten โ A heavy physical hit, likely targeting one character.
- Body Slam โ Another physical move with strong impact.
- Scorch โ A Fire-element attack.
- Fira โ Standard Fire magic hit.
- Fira Barrage โ Multiple Fire magic hits in quick succession. This one hurts.
- Burn to Ashes โ A powerful fire skill. Likely single-target and hits hard.
- Scorched Earth โ Fire damage likely affecting the whole party. One of his most dangerous moves.
The physical moves โ Crush, Flatten, and Body Slam โ are manageable if you have a Sentinel in the party. The fire-based skills are where the real danger comes from. Fira Barrage and Scorched Earth can chunk your party’s HP fast, especially if you are not protected.

Ifrit’s Battle Traits โ The Most Important Part of This Fight
Ifrit has three unique battle traits that change how you play the fight. These are not just flavour text โ ignoring them will get your party wiped.
1. Rage Trigger
Ifrit becomes enraged when he is repeatedly hit with attacks. When he enrages, his moves hit harder. If you are just hammering him non-stop with physical hits and ignoring this mechanic, you will suddenly find yourself taking way more damage than expected.
2. Calmed by Water
Here is the key mechanic that makes this fight manageable: Ifrit calms down when hit by a Water attack. If he enrages, use a Water spell and it will reset his rage state. This means your strategy involves a cycle โ hit him, watch for rage, throw a Water attack to calm him, repeat.
This is also why Water attackers are doubly valuable here. Water hits his weakness for extra damage and removes his enrage state. A character with a Water ability is not just doing damage โ they are also your rage management tool.
3. Powerful Skill on Fast Stagger Drain
Ifrit uses a powerful skill when his stagger gauge is rapidly reduced. This is a punishment mechanic for players who try to chain high-stagger attacks back to back. If you dump all your stagger power into his gauge too fast, he fires off a strong counter.
The way to handle this is to stagger him steadily rather than all at once. Space out your stagger-focused moves. Don’t stack every Breaker skill on one turn โ pace it across two or three turns.
If you are running a Breaker with Fulminating Strike, be careful with how you chain it. Use the 50% stagger buff over several turns rather than triggering a huge stagger spike in one go.

Recommended Party and Preparation
Recommended Level
Ifrit’s trial is rated at Level 33. You want your party at or near that level before entering. If you have been keeping up with story content and side quests through Chapter 4, you should be close. Being a few levels under is fine if your Vision builds are solid, but going in under Level 28 or 29 will make the fight noticeably harder.
Bring Water Damage
This is not optional. At least one character needs a Water-based ability or magic spell. Water hits his weakness for extra stagger and damage, and it is your only way to calm Ifrit when he enrages. Leviathan is the Water-element Esper and can be useful here if you have already unlocked him.
Bring a Healer
Fira Barrage and Scorched Earth will hit your whole party hard. Fina with Leah Vision is the standard healer setup. Keep a Medic in your party and make sure they have enough MP to sustain through the fight. Having a Regen passive active going into the fight helps too.
For more on building Fina, see our Fina character guide.
Consider a Synergist for Protect
Ifrit’s physical moves โ Crush, Flatten, Body Slam โ deal consistent damage through the fight. Running a Synergist who can apply Protect to your party reduces physical damage across the board. This makes your healer’s job much easier and gives you more breathing room when Ifrit enrages.
Stat Debuffs Worth Using
Ifrit has 30% resistance to Strength Down and Magic Down, meaning they will land roughly one in three times. A Saboteur with debuff abilities is worth the slot if you have one levelled up. Dropping his Strength reduces physical hit damage, and Magic Down reduces his fire spell output. Even landing one of these early can take the pressure off.
How to Beat Ifrit โ Step-by-Step Strategy
Here is a practical breakdown of how to run this fight efficiently:
Turn 1 โ Set Up Buffs
Open with your Synergist applying Protect and/or Bravery to the party. Use your Saboteur to throw a Strength Down or Slow debuff on Ifrit if you have one. Get your buffs up before the damage starts rolling in.
Turns 2โ3 โ Controlled Stagger Phase
Start chipping at Ifrit’s stagger gauge with physical and Water-based moves. Do not dump all your stagger power in one go โ his battle trait punishes fast gauge drains. Spread your stagger-focused hits across two or three turns. Use Water skills here for both their stagger contribution and weakness damage.
Watch for Enrage
If Ifrit enrages mid-fight, immediately use a Water attack to calm him. Do not wait until he unloads on your party. Keep a Water skill on standby specifically for this situation. One Water hit resets the rage, and since it also hits his weakness, it is never a wasted action.
Stagger Phase โ Capitalise With Resonance
When you break his stagger gauge, your party enters the Bonus Phase. This is when you pile on your hardest-hitting abilities. If you trigger a Sweeping Stagger (all enemies staggered at once, though Ifrit is solo here so it happens automatically when he staggers), you can fire off a Resonance attack. Pick the highest-damage Vision Resonance in your party for this window.
For boss fight strategies generally, see our Final Fantasy Resonance all bosses list.
Manage HP Constantly
Ifrit can spike party damage with Fira Barrage and Scorched Earth. Do not let any party member sit below half HP if you can help it. Heal proactively rather than reactively โ if your healer is spending their turn recovering from a near-wipe, you lose your offensive momentum entirely.
Post-Stagger Loop
After the stagger phase ends, Ifrit recovers and his gauge resets. Start the cycle again โ steady stagger hits, Water attacks to manage enrage, healer keeping everyone up. His HP is 96,000, so you will likely go through two or three stagger cycles before the fight ends.
What Ifrit Drops and Why You Want Him
Defeating Ifrit gives you Magicite, which is used to awaken Visions and increase their power level. Magicite is always useful, so picking it up here is worth it even if you are not struggling for resources.
More importantly, beating Ifrit unlocks him as a playable Esper. His finishing move is Hellfire, a powerful Fire-element attack. Once you have him, Ifrit can be summoned in battles for strong Fire damage output. He is one of the nine Espers in the game.

Ifrit vs Clive Vision โ Worth Knowing
Interestingly, the Clive Vision in Final Fantasy Resonance is a Breaker who deals Fire-element physical damage and has a passive called Boundless Flames that imbues non-elemental attacks with Fire after a Fire hit. Do not use Clive’s Vision for the Ifrit boss fight โ his Fire damage deals zero damage against Ifrit’s immunity. Swap him out before this fight and bring a Water-capable Vision instead.
