🔥 S+ TIER BREAK DPS 🔥

SAM · Queen of Super Break

Firefly — a member of the Stellaron Hunters afflicted with Entropy Loss Syndrome, who pilots the mechanical combat frame SAM (Stellaron Armament Mech) — is a 5-star Fire Destruction character and the defining DPS of the Break Meta that reshaped Honkai: Star Rail’s endgame from Version 2.2 onward. As of HSR 4.0 and February 2026, Firefly maintains S+ Tier status as one of the strongest and most consistent single-target Break DPS characters in the game.

Firefly’s entire kit revolves around Weakness Break and Super Break Damage — a fundamentally different damage paradigm from conventional CRIT-based DPS. She deals no meaningful direct attack damage; instead, she excels at shattering enemy Toughness bars rapidly and then converting that Break into enormous Super Break DMG. Her Complete Combustion state (entered via Ultimate) transforms her into SAM, granting enhanced attacks, Fire Weakness implantation, massive SPD bonus, and self-sustaining HP recovery — creating explosive burst windows that can annihilate single targets regardless of their natural element weaknesses. She does not require CRIT stats; her damage scaling is Break Effect and ATK-based, making her one of the most streamlined DPS characters to build.

The Break System — How Firefly’s Damage Works

💥 Super Break DMG — The Core Mechanic

Understanding Break and Super Break DMG is essential to building Firefly correctly. Firefly plays an entirely different damage game from conventional DPS — here’s how it works:

  • Toughness Reduction: Every attack reduces an enemy’s Toughness bar. When Toughness hits 0, the enemy enters Weakness Broken state — taking extra damage, losing their next turn, and being slowed. Firefly’s Enhanced Skill and Basic Attack deal enormous Toughness damage to rapidly trigger this.
  • Break DMG: When Weakness Break is triggered, the attacker deals element-based Break DMG scaling with ATK, Toughness Reduction, Level, and Elemental Multiplier. Fire Break DMG has a strong multiplier. Firefly’s Break DMG is further amplified by her Break Effect stat.
  • Super Break DMG (the key): Harmony Trailblazer’s Ultimate grants the entire team the ability to deal Super Break DMG — bonus damage on every attack against a Weakness Broken enemy, scaling with the attacker’s Toughness Reduction × Break Effect × ATK. Super Break fires on every hit, every Enhanced Skill use, every Basic Attack during Complete Combustion — making it the overwhelming majority of Firefly’s total damage output (typically 70–85%).
  • Module β Trace — The 360% BE Cap: Firefly’s A4 trace converts Toughness Reduction into Super Break DMG with an enhanced formula at 200% and again at 360% Break Effect. Reaching 360% total Break Effect in combat is Firefly’s primary build goal — it unlocks the maximum Super Break DMG amplification from her kit. Below this threshold, she leaves significant damage on the table.
  • CRIT stats are irrelevant: Break DMG and Super Break DMG are fixed damage types that do not crit. Building CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG on Firefly is a complete waste of substat budget. Invest exclusively in Break Effect, ATK, and SPD.

🔥 Reaching 360% BE — Where It Comes From

The 360% Break Effect target sounds extreme but is achievable with the right setup. Sources stack as follows: Iron Cavalry 4pc (+16%) + Forge of the Kalpagni Lantern (+40% when Fire weakness) + Ruan Mei’s Talent buff (~30–50%) + Module β ATK conversion (~64% at 2600+ ATK) + Signature LC (+60%) + Thief’s 4pc (+16% base +16% on break) + relic substats. With Ruan Mei, Firefly can reach 360% even with moderate relic investment. Without Ruan Mei, the target becomes harder — prioritise more BE substats accordingly.

Kit Breakdown

💥
Skill — Aerial Bombardment (→ Enhanced)
Outside Combustion: Consumes 40% Max HP to deal Fire DMG and regenerate Energy equal to half Max Energy. Inside Combustion, transforms into Enhanced Skill (Deathstar Overload): restores HP, applies Fire Weakness to the target for 2 turns, deals Fire DMG to target and adjacent enemies, and massively reduces Toughness. The Fire Weakness application means Firefly can force Fire Break on any enemy regardless of their natural weaknesses — a unique and uniquely powerful mechanic.
🚀
Ultimate — Complete Combustion State
Firefly enters SAM mode: immediately takes another turn, gains +30 SPD, +50% Weakness Break Efficiency, and +10% Break DMG. Enhanced Basic Attack and Enhanced Skill become available. Combustion lasts based on countdown — Firefly uses turns rapidly in this state (aim for 3 Enhanced Skills per Combustion). The HP self-sustainability: Enhanced attacks restore HP, keeping Firefly alive despite her HP-consuming Skill cost.
🛡️
Talent — Chrysalid Pyronexus
Provides Firefly with DMG Reduction scaling with missing HP — the lower her HP, the less damage she takes. Also dispels all debuffs on Firefly when she reaches maximum Energy (just before using Ultimate). Combined with the HP restoration from Enhanced attacks inside Combustion, this talent creates a self-sustaining survival loop: low HP = high DMG reduction = Enhanced attacks restore HP. Firefly almost never dies in endgame once properly managed.
Module α Trace — Universal Toughness
During Complete Combustion, Firefly’s attacks can reduce Toughness of any enemy regardless of their elemental weakness — at 55% efficiency. Combined with her Enhanced Skill forcing Fire Weakness, Firefly can Break virtually any enemy without needing element-matched teammates. This makes Firefly one of the most self-sufficient Break DPS characters — she doesn’t need a Fire-weakness team to function.
📈
Module β Trace — ATK to Break Effect
Firefly converts ATK into Break Effect — approximately 32% Break Effect per 1000 ATK (scaling formula). At 2,600+ ATK, she gains roughly 64% additional Break Effect from this trace alone. This means every ATK% piece on Firefly contributes to both direct damage scaling and her Break Effect target. With this trace, ATK% body pieces become efficient even in a BE-focused build.
🔥
Technique — Zone & Fire Weakness Entry
Creates a fire zone before combat. Enemies caught in the zone immediately enter combat already in a weakened state. Additionally, Firefly can use Technique to pre-enter Combustion state in some scenarios. Always use Technique before important fights — the entry advantage ensures Firefly can begin dealing Break DMG on the very first turn without needing a full rotation setup.

Best Light Cones

Whereabouts Should Dreams Rest

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Signature — Best in Slot

Why it’s #1: Firefly’s signature provides a massive +60% Break Effect — the single largest Break Effect boost available from any Light Cone. When Firefly deals Break DMG, applies “Routed” to the enemy for 2 turns: the enemy takes +24% increased Break DMG from Firefly, and their SPD is reduced by 20%. The SPD reduction matters: slower enemies stay Weakness Broken longer, giving Firefly more Super Break hits during the window.

The 60% BE alone is transformative — with the signature, Firefly can reach 360% BE target significantly more easily from relics alone, reducing the Break Effect substat investment required. However, Prydwen data notes that while the signature is strong, E2 provides more total DPS increase than the signature LC — prioritize E2 over the signature if investing vertically. At E0, the signature is the clear #1 Light Cone option.

On the Fall of an Aeon

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Standard — Best F2P 5-Star

Best Non-Signature Option: Stackable ATK% bonus (up to +64% ATK at max stacks on attack) and a +12% DMG bonus after triggering Weakness Break. The ATK% stacks directly fuel Firefly’s Module β trace — converting into additional Break Effect. At max stacks (4 attacks), On the Fall of an Aeon provides the ATK foundation Firefly needs for the 2600+ ATK threshold to maximize Module β BE conversion. Available on the standard banner permanently. Strong competitive alternative to the signature for the specific combo of ATK → BE conversion.

Indelible Promise

⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4-Star Break Effect LC

Break Effect 4-Star Option: Provides +28% Break Effect and a conditional CRIT Rate bonus (wasted on Firefly). The 28% BE is meaningful — roughly half of what the signature provides — making this a genuinely good 4-star transition option while farming or saving for a better 5-star LC. The CRIT Rate component is entirely useless for Firefly, but the base BE bonus justifies using it. Superimpose if possible for higher BE.

Mutual Demise

⭐⭐⭐⭐ HP-Loss Synergy LC

HP Synergy Budget Pick: Increases CRIT Rate when HP falls below 80% (wasted on Firefly’s kit). However, it provides meaningful base ATK and a secondary condition that plays into Firefly’s natural low-HP playstyle via Skill’s HP consumption. The CRIT Rate bonus is useless but the ATK base stat contributes to the Module β BE conversion chain. Use only as a temporary placeholder — move to On the Fall of an Aeon or the signature as soon as possible.

It’s Showtime

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Effect Hit Rate Option

Effect HIT Rate Niche: Provides ATK stacks from using Skill/Ultimate, and a flat ATK bonus. While the Effect Hit Rate aspect doesn’t benefit Firefly, the ATK stacking mechanism directly contributes to Module β’s Break Effect conversion. A workable budget LC that provides ATK building. Generally ranked below Indelible Promise and On the Fall of an Aeon for Firefly — use as a last resort if better options aren’t available.

Flames Afar

⭐⭐⭐⭐ Destruction 4-Star

Destruction Path Budget LC: When the wearer’s HP drops below 50%, gains a +24% DMG bonus for the rest of the combat. Firefly naturally operates at low HP due to Skill’s HP consumption — making this condition reliably activated. The 24% DMG bonus does apply to Break DMG and Super Break DMG in most scenarios. A decent free option for players who obtained it from events — better than Mutual Demise in most situations despite similar stars.

🔥 E2 vs Signature LC — The Key Investment Question

Multiple sources including Prydwen and community optimization data confirm that Firefly’s E2 provides more total DPS increase than her Signature Light Cone. E2 grants Firefly an extra immediate turn when she defeats or inflicts Weakness Break on an enemy during Complete Combustion — effectively giving her 4+ Enhanced Skill uses per Combustion cycle instead of 3. In endgame content where enemies have large Toughness bars and Firefly breaks them mid-Combustion, E2 enables an explosive bonus turn of Super Break DMG at the exact right moment. If spending stellars on vertical investment, prioritise reaching E1 → E2 before purchasing the Signature LC.

Best Relic Sets

4-Piece Cavity Relics

Iron Cavalry Against the Scourge BEST IN SLOT
2-Piece: Break Effect +16%. Directly contributes to the 360% BE target from relic set bonuses alone.
4-Piece: When Break Effect ≥ 150%, Break DMG ignores 10% of enemy DEF. When Break Effect ≥ 250%, Super Break DMG additionally ignores 15% of enemy DEF (stacks with the 10% above = 25% total DEF ignore for Super Break DMG).

Why It’s #1: Iron Cavalry is purpose-built for Super Break DPS. The tiered DEF ignore effects apply precisely to Firefly’s primary damage sources — Break DMG at 150% (easily reached) and Super Break DMG at 250% (comfortably reached mid-build). The 25% combined Super Break DEF ignore is one of the most powerful relic effects in the game, compounding multiplicatively with other DEF reduction sources (Ruan Mei, Gallagher’s Ultimate debuff). Firefly reaches both thresholds naturally in any remotely optimised build, meaning the 4-piece bonus is always fully active.

Thief of Shooting Meteor STRONG ALTERNATIVE / TRANSITION
2-Piece: Break Effect +16%.
4-Piece: Break Effect +16% (total +32% from set). When the wearer inflicts Weakness Break on an enemy, regenerates 3 Energy.

When to Use: Thief of Shooting Meteor provides the highest raw Break Effect from a single relic set (+32% from 4-piece alone — double the Iron Cavalry 2-piece bonus). The Energy regeneration on Weakness Break helps Firefly reach her Ultimate faster, enabling more Complete Combustion uptime. Best as a transition set while farming Iron Cavalry, or in builds where the extra BE% pushes Firefly reliably over 360% without needing as many BE substats, freeing rolls for ATK% and SPD. Slightly weaker than Iron Cavalry at equal relic quality but the BE advantage makes it competitive.

Iron Cavalry (2pc) + Thief of Shooting Meteor (2pc) HYBRID OPTION
Iron Cavalry 2-Piece: Break Effect +16%.
Thief of Shooting Meteor 2-Piece: Break Effect +16% — combined gives +32% BE from set bonuses, matching the Thief 4-piece.

When to Use: If you have excellent individual piece rolls from both sets but can’t complete a high-quality 4-piece Iron Cavalry, this 2+2 combination lets you cherry-pick the best substats from each set while maintaining +32% total BE from set bonuses. Loses Iron Cavalry’s critical DEF ignore effects — not recommended as a long-term setup, but a strong transitional choice. Farm Iron Cavalry 4-piece as the eventual goal.

Planar Ornaments

Forge of the Kalpagni Lantern BEST IN SLOT
2-Piece: SPD +6%. When hitting enemies with Fire Weakness, wearer’s Break Effect increases by 40% for 1 turn.

Why It’s #1: The 40% BE bonus when hitting Fire-weak enemies is remarkable — and it has essentially 100% uptime for Firefly. Her Enhanced Skill applies Fire Weakness to the target for 2 turns, meaning every subsequent hit against that target (which she deals many of inside Combustion) qualifies for the 40% BE bonus. Combined with Iron Cavalry and Thief set bonuses, Forge’s 40% BE makes reaching 360% achievable with moderate relic investment. The SPD +6% also contributes toward SPD breakpoints. Uncontested #1 ornament for Firefly.

Talia: Kingdom of Banditry STRONG ALTERNATIVE
2-Piece: Break Effect +16%. When wearer’s SPD ≥ 145, Break Effect additionally increases by 20% (total +36% BE when activated).

When to Use: If Firefly cannot reliably hit Fire-weak enemies (enemy has different weakness type and hasn’t been hit by Enhanced Skill yet), Talia provides a reliable +36% BE at 145+ SPD without any hit-type condition. The SPD threshold of 145 is easily met with SPD boots and Complete Combustion’s +30 SPD bonus. Slightly lower effective BE than Forge (36% unconditional vs 40% conditional with ~100% uptime), but more consistent in specific edge cases. A safe backup choice.

Stat Priorities

🔥 IMPORTANT: Never Use CRIT Stats on Firefly

Break DMG and Super Break DMG do not crit. CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG provide zero benefit to Firefly. This is her most critical building rule — any relic piece with CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG as a main stat (Body, Sphere) should be replaced with Break Effect% or Fire DMG%. Sub-stat CRIT rolls are also wasted. Discard pieces with CRIT as main stats immediately and re-farm. This rule is absolute.

Speed Breakpoints

150 SPD
Standard Target
Comfortable endgame baseline — provides enough Combustion turns for consistent Super Break output without Ruan Mei’s SPD buff.
154 SPD
Ruan Mei Breakpoint
154 base SPD + Ruan Mei’s Talent buff = 164 in-combat SPD. Enables 3 Enhanced Skill uses in MoC cycle 1 before Combustion ends. Priority target in Ruan Mei teams.
160+ SPD
High Investment
Premium SPD investment without relying on Ruan Mei buff for breakpoints. Gives more flexibility in team building. Requires significant SPD substats from relics.
134 SPD
Budget Minimum
Absolute minimum viable SPD for functioning Combustion rotations. Not recommended — at this SPD only 2 Enhanced Skills per Combustion cycle are possible, significantly reducing DPS output.

Substat Priority

  1. Break Effect% — Every BE substat directly pushes Firefly toward the 360% cap and increases Super Break DMG. In content without Ruan Mei (who provides significant BE support), BE substats become even more critical. This is the #1 substat priority — roll Break Effect on every available slot.
  2. SPD — Reach the 154 SPD threshold (with Ruan Mei) or 160+ SPD (without Ruan Mei) for the maximum 3-Enhanced-Skill Combustion window. More turns inside Combustion = more Super Break procs = dramatically more total damage. SPD substat priority is very high second after BE%.
  3. ATK% — Firefly’s Module β trace converts ATK to Break Effect at ~32% BE per 1000 ATK. At 2600+ ATK, Module β provides 64% additional Break Effect. ATK% substats double-dip — they boost both Super Break DMG directly (Super Break scales with ATK) and indirectly via more BE from Module β. Third priority after BE and SPD thresholds are met.
  4. Flat ATK — Contributes to the 2600+ ATK target and Super Break scaling. Less efficient per roll than ATK% but still meaningful. Fill remaining substat slots with Flat ATK after BE%, SPD, and ATK% are satisfied.
  5. Avoid: CRIT Rate / CRIT DMG / Effect Hit Rate — All three provide zero benefit to Firefly’s damage. CRIT stats are irrelevant (Super Break doesn’t crit). Effect Hit Rate is not needed (Firefly doesn’t apply debuffs requiring EHR to land). Any relic piece with these as primary substats should be replaced when a better option is available.

Trace Priority

  1. Ultimate — “Fyrefly Type-IV: Complete Combustion”
Provides SPD boost, Weakness Break Efficiency, Break DMG increase, and unlocks Enhanced attacks. Higher Ultimate levels increase the SPD bonus inside Combustion and amplify the Break DMG bonus — both directly scaling Firefly’s primary damage output and action count. Max as first priority — every Ultimate level matters for DPS.
  2. Skill — “Aerial Bombardment”
Higher Skill levels increase Enhanced Skill damage and Toughness reduction. More Toughness reduction per Enhanced Skill = faster Breaks = more Super Break triggers per Combustion window. Second priority alongside Talent during initial investment.
  3. Talent — “Chrysalid Pyronexus”
Higher Talent levels increase the DMG reduction scaling (survivability) and HP restored from Enhanced attacks during Combustion. Critical for keeping Firefly alive without a dedicated healer — her self-sustain through the Talent + Enhanced attacks is the reason she functions in aggressive Break teams without a standard sustain unit. Upgrade alongside Skill.
  4. Basic Attack
Lowest priority. In most endgame rotations Firefly rarely uses Basic Attack — inside Combustion she uses Enhanced Basic + Enhanced Skill, and outside Combustion she uses Skill for energy. Skip Basic Attack upgrades entirely and redirect all trace materials to Ultimate, Skill, and Talent.
🔥 Unlock All Three Bonus Ability Traces Immediately

Module α (Antilag Outburst): Enables Toughness reduction against any enemy regardless of weakness type during Combustion (at 55% efficiency). Without this trace, Firefly cannot reduce Toughness on non-Fire-weak enemies outside of Enhanced Skill’s forced Fire Weakness. Absolutely mandatory — unlock first.

Module β (Autoreactive Armor): Converts ATK to Break Effect and enables the Super Break DMG thresholds at 200% and 360% BE. This is Firefly’s core damage amplification trace — without it, her Super Break DMG is dramatically reduced. Unlock second.

Module γ (Antilag Overhaul): When entering Combustion, Firefly gains additional Fire Resistance Penetration and Weakness Break Efficiency. Increases damage penetration during Combustion windows. Unlock third — all three Bonus Abilities are essential for Firefly’s maximum performance.

Best Team Compositions

FIREFLY’S BEST TEAM

🔥 Classic Super Break Core

🔥 Firefly (DPS) 🌿 Harmony Trailblazer (HTB) 🌸 Ruan Mei 🍺 Gallagher

The definitive Firefly team and one of the strongest endgame compositions in HSR history. Each unit has a specific, irreplaceable role in the Super Break ecosystem:

Harmony Trailblazer (HTB) is Firefly’s most essential partner — HTB’s Ultimate enables the entire team to deal Super Break DMG against Weakness Broken enemies. Without HTB, Firefly’s Super Break output is massively reduced. HTB also contributes their own Super Break DMG on every ally attack, becoming a genuine DPS contributor in their own right. HTB is mandatory for this team style.

Ruan Mei provides: All-Type RES PEN for the entire team (amplifying all Break and Super Break DMG multiplicatively), SPD buff (enabling Firefly’s 154→164 SPD breakpoint), increased Weakness Break duration (enemies stay Broken longer = more Super Break hits per Toughness Break), and significant Break Effect buffs. Ruan Mei is the second most important unit in Firefly’s team — her contributions to SPD, RES PEN, and Break extension are extraordinary.

Gallagher provides sustain via Besotted state (enemies in Besotted take increased Break DMG), his own Break DMG contributions, and SP-neutral healing through his frequent off-turn attacks. His Besotted debuff stacks additively with other Break DMG taken debuffs from the signature LC, further amplifying Firefly’s Break output.

MODERN VARIANT

🔥 Firefly + Fugue Variant

🔥 Firefly (DPS) ⚡ Fugue (Break Support) 🌸 Ruan Mei 🍺 Gallagher / Lingsha

A powerful alternative composition using Fugue (a newer limited 5-star Nihility character) as a second Break support alongside or replacing HTB. Fugue provides Break Effect buffs, Weakness Break extension similar to Ruan Mei, and deals Super Break DMG independently — contributing significant off-turn damage of her own.

The key distinction: with Fugue, Firefly can still generate Super Break for the team (Fugue enables a similar Super Break setup to HTB for Firefly specifically), while potentially dealing higher personal damage than the HTB slot allows. This composition is particularly strong in Apocalyptic Shadow single-boss phase fights where maximizing Firefly’s single-target burst damage is the priority. Use HTB as default; experiment with Fugue if you own her and want higher Firefly-personal DPS peaks at the cost of team-wide Super Break accessibility.

DUAL BREAK DPS

🔥 Firefly + Rappa Break Duo

🔥 Firefly (DPS) 💨 Rappa (DPS) 🌿 Harmony Trailblazer 🌸 Ruan Mei

A dual Break DPS composition pairing Firefly with Rappa (an AoE Break DPS who excels in multi-enemy content). Both characters deal Super Break DMG powered by the same HTB + Ruan Mei support core — with HTB’s Super Break enabling both DPS simultaneously. The team is particularly dominant in Pure Fiction waves where Rappa’s AoE Break output rapidly demolishes multiple enemies while Firefly burns down priority targets.

The SPD tuning for this team differs from standard Firefly: Rappa has her own SPD requirements, so ensure there’s no turn-order conflict with Firefly’s Combustion timing. Both DPS should aim for their respective SPD breakpoints independently of each other. Use Ruan Mei to cover both with her team-wide SPD and BE buffs simultaneously. This team can run without a dedicated sustain, relying on Firefly’s self-heal and Rappa’s own survivability — though Gallagher can be substituted for one of the DPS in content that demands healing.

F2P ACCESSIBLE

🔥 Budget-Friendly Break Team

🔥 Firefly (DPS) 🌿 Harmony Trailblazer 🌀 Asta / Pela 🍺 Gallagher

A fully F2P-accessible team for players who don’t own Ruan Mei. Asta (free 4-star Fire character) provides SPD buffs to the entire team, covering Firefly’s SPD breakpoint needs without Ruan Mei, and her Fire element means she can contribute Break DMG against Fire-weak enemies. Pela (free 4-star) provides DEF shred on enemies — reducing their DEF significantly and directly amplifying Firefly’s Super Break DMG (which scales against DEF). Either is a viable Ruan Mei substitute.

Gallagher is technically F2P-accessible as a limited 4-star who has been available on rate-up and earned through events. HTB is the Trailblazer on the Harmony path — completely free for all players. This team is competitive in Memory of Chaos difficulty 10–12 and handles most Apocalyptic Shadow content with proper rotation. Save for Ruan Mei on her next rerun for a substantial upgrade.

Eidolons Guide

Eidolon Effect Priority
E0 Full base kit at E0 — Complete Combustion state, Fire Weakness implantation via Enhanced Skill, universal Toughness reduction (Module α), ATK-to-BE conversion (Module β), self-heal loop via Enhanced attacks, debuff cleanse at max Energy. Firefly is strong and fully functional at E0. Her investment path is straightforward: relics and Light Cone carry most of her power at E0S0. Strong Base
E1 “Slashed Dream Cuts Through Bone” — During Complete Combustion, Enhanced Skill now uses no Skill Points and additionally ignores 15% of enemy DEF when dealing Break DMG.

Two significant effects: (1) SP neutrality during Combustion removes the team SP management burden — Firefly can spam Enhanced Skills without consuming SP needed by supports. (2) 15% DEF ignore stacks with Iron Cavalry’s DEF ignore (25% total) for an enormous combined DEF penetration — dramatically increasing both Break DMG and Super Break DMG. E1 is a substantial DPS improvement and quality-of-life upgrade.
High Value
E2 “Flamesong Warmth Melts Iron” — When Firefly defeats or inflicts Weakness Break on an enemy during Complete Combustion, she immediately takes another action.

The highest-priority Eidolon by far — and the reason E2 is prioritized over the Signature LC in most investment guides. In boss fights where Firefly breaks a large Toughness bar mid-Combustion, E2 grants an extra Enhanced Skill immediately — an additional massive Super Break hit during the prime damage window. In multi-enemy content, defeating an enemy also triggers the bonus turn. This bonus turn compounds multiplicatively with SPD breakpoints and dramatically increases total Combustion DPS. Invest in E2 before buying Signature LC.
Priority Over Sig LC
E4 “Trailfire Lights the Path” — Firefly gains +50% Effect RES during Complete Combustion.

Dramatically improves survivability during Combustion by preventing CC debuffs (Freeze, Imprisonment) from interrupting the window at its most critical moment. Primarily a defensive Eidolon — meaningful in content with heavy AoE CC but provides no damage increase. Generally considered lower priority than E1/E2 for pure DPS investment.
Defensive QoL
E6 “Ember’s Transmigration” — In Complete Combustion, Enhanced Basic Attack Toughness Reduction increases by 200%, and Enhanced Skill’s DMG multiplier based on Break Effect cap increases from 360% to 450% Break Effect.

E6 raises Firefly’s effective BE cap by 90%, allowing her to benefit from even higher Break Effect investment than E0 builds. The Enhanced Basic Attack Toughness increase makes her Toughness damage even more explosive. Whale-tier — dramatically powerful but extremely cost-intensive at 6 copies of a limited 5-star. A massive personal damage increase that cements Firefly as one of the hardest-hitting DPS characters in the game at E6.
Whale Tier
🔥 Eidolon Investment Priority: E2 Before Signature LC

Community consensus from Prydwen, Game8, and multiple optimization calculators confirms: E1 → E2 → Signature LC is the optimal investment order for committed Firefly players. E2’s bonus turn on Weakness Break during Combustion provides more total DPS increase per stella spent than the Signature LC’s 60% BE boost and Routed debuff — particularly in endgame content with large Toughness bars where Breaks happen mid-Combustion frequently. At E0S0, use On the Fall of an Aeon and farm relics. At E0S1, the signature helps. But if choosing between E2 and S1, E2 wins.

Gameplay & Rotation Tips

Core Rotation

  1. Use Technique before combat — applies a fire zone effect to create a strong combat opener.
  2. Outside Combustion: use Skill whenever available — it consumes HP but regenerates half Max Energy, accelerating toward Ultimate. Don’t use Basic Attack if SP allows Skill.
  3. Activate Ultimate (Complete Combustion) as soon as Energy is full — immediately take the bonus turn and begin Enhanced attack rotation.
  4. Inside Combustion: use Enhanced Skill (Deathstar Overload) on every turn. This deals the highest Toughness damage, applies Fire Weakness, and generates Super Break DMG. Aim for 3 Enhanced Skills per Combustion window at 154+ SPD.
  5. Time HTB’s Ultimate to be active before Firefly enters Combustion — Super Break DMG from HTB’s buff should be running when Firefly begins her Enhanced Skill spam. Coordinate with the support player if needed.
  6. After Combustion ends, return to Skill spam to regenerate Energy for the next Ultimate cycle. Repeat.

Key Gameplay Rules

  • Don’t panic at low HP — Firefly’s Talent grants massive DMG reduction at low HP, and Enhanced Basic Attack restores HP inside Combustion. Low HP is her natural operating state, not a crisis.
  • Save HTB’s Ultimate for Firefly’s Combustion window — HTB’s Super Break buff must be active when Firefly is dealing Enhanced Skill hits. If HTB uses Ultimate too early or too late, Firefly’s Super Break DMG is reduced significantly.
  • Ruan Mei’s Weakness Break extension is your damage extender — she keeps enemies in Weakness Broken state for longer, meaning more Super Break hits land during the extended window. This is why Ruan Mei is Firefly’s second-most-important support.
  • At E2, aim to land the killing blow or triggering Weakness Break during Combustion whenever possible — E2’s bonus turn fires precisely at these moments for an extra Enhanced Skill.
  • Use Gallagher’s Ultimate on the main target to apply Besotted state before Firefly’s Combustion begins — the increased Break DMG taken from Besotted stacks additively with other debuffs for maximum Break amplification.

Should You Pull Firefly?

✅ Pull If:

  • You enjoy the Break Effect playstyle — Firefly’s kit is uniquely satisfying: no CRIT farming, streamlined stat targets, explosive Super Break numbers
  • You own or plan to pull Harmony Trailblazer and Ruan Mei — Firefly’s best team is built around both and they’re relatively accessible (HTB is free; Ruan Mei is a rerun standard-adjacent character)
  • You want a top-tier single-target DPS who excels at Apocalyptic Shadow boss fights
  • You prefer a simple, clear build path — no CRIT farming, clear BE threshold goals, no complex rotation dependencies
  • You want a character who has been consistently S+ Tier since release (Version 2.2) and remains competitive in HSR 4.0
  • This is Firefly’s rerun — she’s historically been one of the most popular and requested reruns in the game

⚠️ Consider Skipping If:

  • You primarily play AoE Pure Fiction content — Firefly is a single-target specialist and struggles against multi-wave fights compared to AoE-focused DPS
  • You don’t own and don’t plan to build Harmony Trailblazer — without HTB, Firefly’s Super Break DMG drops dramatically
  • Your account already has strong Break DPS coverage (Rappa, Boothill) and you don’t need another Break carry
  • You’re saving resources for a new DPS or SS-Tier support whose banner follows closely after Firefly’s

Final Verdict: Firefly remains one of the most polished, effective, and beginner-friendly top-tier DPS characters in Honkai: Star Rail. Her damage paradigm — Break Effect, ATK, SPD with zero CRIT required — is uniquely streamlined compared to conventional DPS characters. Her Super Break output in single-target boss content is consistently among the highest in the game, her self-sustain means she can run without a dedicated healer in many compositions, and her team (HTB + Ruan Mei + Gallagher) is beloved by players for its reliability and synergy. S+ Tier — a premium pull for anyone entering or deepening their Break Meta investment.

Firefly vs Other S+ Tier DPS

vs Acheron: Acheron is a CRIT-based Lightning DPS excelling in DoT-adjacent and Nihility-support teams. Firefly dominates single-target boss fights; Acheron dominates in multi-hit multi-target scenarios with her Ultimate spam. They occupy different team ecosystems and are complementary endgame investments rather than direct competitors.

vs Mydei: Mydei is an HP-scaling Destruction DPS following a different damage paradigm. Firefly leads in Break content; Mydei leads in content where ATK and HP scaling is advantaged. Both are S+ Tier single-target DPS but require entirely different teams and support investments.
