How Sprite Leveling Works in Fortnite Runners

Every Sprite has its own individual level. Levels go from 1 to 5. Each level strengthens the Sprite’s passive ability. The Duck Sprite, for example, goes from restoring +1 shield per emote tick at level 1 to +5 shield per tick at max level. Other Sprites scale differently, but the principle is the same — higher level means a stronger effect.

Sprites level up through Mastery Points (MP) earned during a match. You earn MP from three sources:

• Opening containers (chests, ammo boxes, Sprite Chests, food boxes, fishing barrels): 75 MP each
• Eliminations (downing and eliminating opponents): 200 MP each
• Extracting duplicate Sprites (extracting any Sprite you already own): 200 MP each

Eliminations and duplicate extractions give the highest MP per action. Looting containers is slower but safer and more consistent across every match.

Only Your Equipped Sprite Gains XP

This is the most important rule of the leveling system. Only the Sprite on your back earns Mastery Points. Sprites sitting in your regular inventory slots do not passively gain XP, no matter how many containers you open or enemies you eliminate while carrying them.

If you want to level a specific Sprite, it needs to be equipped — not stored. Equip it as back bling before you start earning XP, not halfway through the match.

How to Level Up Sprites Fast in Fortnite

Use the Two-Match Strategy

You do not need to hit level 5 in a single match. Trying to do so in one game significantly increases the risk of dying before extraction and losing all your progress.

The safer and more repeatable approach is the two-match split:

• Match 1: Level your Sprite to level 3. Focus on looting containers and taking safe fights. Once you hit level 3, go straight to an Extraction Site and extract it. Do not push for level 4 or 5 in the same match. Bank the progress and leave.
• Match 2: Summon the level 3 Sprite at the pre-match lobby using Sprite Dust. Drop in with it already equipped. Push it from level 3 to level 5 early in the match. The moment it hits level 5, use a Portable Extractor immediately — or rotate to the nearest Extraction Site before engaging any more fights.

This approach removes the biggest risk: dying late in a match with a high-level Sprite that has not been extracted yet. Splitting the grind across two matches means you never have more than two levels of progress at stake at any one time. Land in Quieter Areas

Hot drops kill Sprite leveling runs. Landing in contested POIs means you are likely to die before you earn enough MP to matter.

Land away from the Battle Bus flight path. Loot every container in the area, pick up any Sprites you find and extract them for the 200 MP bonus, and only take fights when you have a clear advantage. Consistent survival beats a few fast eliminations followed by an early death.

Extract Duplicate Sprites Throughout the Match

Any Sprite you pick up and extract that you already own still pays out 200 MP toward your equipped Sprite’s level. This makes extraction runs a double benefit — you earn Sprite Dust for your collection and Mastery Points for your equipped Sprite at the same time.

Play on Mastery Monday

Epic runs Mastery Monday events where all Mastery Points earned in a match are doubled. 75 MP per container becomes 150. 200 MP per elimination becomes 400.

Mastery Monday is the single fastest time to push a Sprite from level 1 to level 5. If you are planning a Sprite leveling session, time it for a Monday. A match that normally gets you halfway to level 3 can potentially get you to level 4 or higher on a Mastery Monday. What Happens If You Die Before Extracting

If you are eliminated before extracting your equipped Sprite, it resets to level 1. All Mastery Points earned that match for that Sprite are lost.

Any additional Sprites you were carrying in your regular inventory slots are also lost on death. You will need to find them again in a future match or spend Sprite Dust to resummon them from your collection.

This is why the two-match strategy and Portable Extractors matter. The higher the Sprite level you are protecting, the more you should be playing to extract rather than to win. A level 4 Sprite that dies in the top 10 is a total waste. A level 3 Sprite extracted early is locked in forever.

How to Master a Sprite in Fortnite

Mastery is achieved by extracting a Sprite at level 5. That single extraction is what triggers the Mastery milestone. You cannot Master a Sprite simply by reaching level 5 — you have to survive long enough to extract it.

Once Mastered, a crown appears on that Sprite’s icon in your collection. The Sprite keeps its level 5 ability perks even if you re-summon it at level 1 in future matches. That distinction matters: your Sprite’s display level resets to 1 on resummon, but it will still perform at its fully powered state because the Mastery is permanent.

Sprite Mastery Rewards

Mastering each Sprite unlocks rewards through the Sprite Mastery Rewards track. You access this in the Sprites tab in the pre-match lobby.

Rewards include XP, Sprite Dust, and Portable Extractors. These stack across each Sprite you Master, so working through multiple Sprites gives you a growing supply of Dust and extraction tools to spend on higher-rarity summons and safer mid-match extractions.

Mastered Sprites can also be displayed in your Sprite Pod Back Bling. Each Mastered Sprite unlocks a slot in the Pod, including special Gold and Gummy variants. The style unlocks permanently once earned.

Which Sprites Are Worth Leveling First

Not every Sprite is worth the same investment. Here is a practical priority order for 2026:

• Fire Sprite (Rare): The best starter to push to Mastery first. The fiery burst on damage is useful in nearly every fight and the low summon cost of 100 Dust means you can bring it into every match without depleting your reserves.
• Demon Sprite (Epic): Gives health and shield siphon on eliminations. Scales directly with how many fights you take, which means it naturally levels fast for aggressive players. At max level it provides 25 HP and shields per kill.
• Ghost Sprite (Epic): Grants temporary cloak on reload. Most useful in mid-game when fights are frequent and reloading in the open is a real risk. Level it alongside Demon if you play aggressively.
• Zero Point Sprite (Mythic): Spawns a Shield Bubble Jr. when you use a healing item. Requires 7,500 Sprite Dust to summon, so prioritise building your Dust stockpile before investing here. Worth Mastering later in the season once your collection is established.
