What Is Sprite Dust in Fortnite Runners
Sprite Dust is a currency introduced in Chapter 7 Season 3 alongside the Sprite extraction system. It serves two main purposes.
First, you spend it in the pre-match lobby to summon a Sprite you have previously extracted. That Sprite will be active on your back before you even drop from the Battle Bus, giving you its passive ability from the very start of the match.
Second, you spend it at Sprite Stations during a match to buy weapon upgrades, bonus XP, and Portable Extractors.
Sprite Dust does not reset between matches. It is permanently tied to your account. Dying, leaving a game early, or failing to extract does not remove any Sprite Dust you have already earned. This makes it very different from Gold Bars, which are wiped at the end of every match.
How to Get Sprite Dust in Fortnite
The primary way to earn Sprite Dust is by extracting Sprites. Every successful extraction pays out Sprite Dust, starting at 500 for a base Rare Sprite and scaling higher based on the Sprite’s rarity and level.
You earn Sprite Dust from extraction even if you already own that type of Sprite. If you find a Water Sprite in a match and already have one in your collection, extracting it still pays out Dust. This makes extraction a reliable farming loop rather than a one-time unlock per Sprite.
Sprite Dust can also be earned through Rewards milestones as you progress through the season.
Gummy Sprites Earn Bonus Sprite Dust
Gummy variants of Sprites grant a 10% bonus on Sprite Dust earned at extraction. If you are actively farming Sprite Dust, prioritising Gummy Sprites over base variants pays off over time. How to Use Sprite Dust to Summon a Sprite
Summoning a Sprite from your collection happens in the pre-match lobby, not during a game.
Open your Sprite collection from the main menu before a match begins. Select the Sprite you want to bring in. Pay the required Sprite Dust cost. The Sprite will equip to your character before you drop from the Battle Bus and its power activates immediately.
This means you are never starting a match empty-handed in terms of Sprite abilities. A summoned Sprite is active from the opening second, before you even land.
Sprite Dust Summon Costs by Rarity
Summoning costs scale with rarity. Base variants are cheaper. Gold and Gummy special variants cost significantly more:
- Rare (Water, Earth, Fire): 100 Sprite Dust (Base) — 4,000 (Gold/Gummy)
- Epic (Duck, Ghost, King, Demon): 3,000 Sprite Dust (Base) — 6,000 (Gold/Gummy)
- Legendary (Dream, Punk): 5,000 Sprite Dust (Base) — 10,000 (Gold/Gummy)
- Mythic (Zero Point, Burnt Peanut): 7,500 Sprite Dust (Base) — 15,000 (Gold/Gummy)
Rare Sprites are the most affordable summons at just 100 Dust. If you are new to the system or building your Dust stockpile, stick to summoning Rare Sprites until you have enough reserves to cover higher rarity costs comfortably.
One important point: summoned Sprites always re-enter at level 1. If you had a Sprite at level 4 and lost it to elimination, summoning it back costs Dust but it comes in at level 1 again. How to Use Sprite Dust at Sprite Stations During a Match
Sprite Stations are terminals located near Extraction Sites on the Runners map. They let you spend Sprite Dust mid-match on three types of purchases.
Weapon Upgrades
You can spend Sprite Dust at a Sprite Station to upgrade a weapon’s rarity tier. This is useful when you have found a solid weapon with good stats but want to push it to a higher damage tier without relying on RNG from chests. Exact costs vary but this is one of the more practical mid-game Dust spends.
XP Bonus
Sprite Stations offer a flat XP purchase using Sprite Dust. This counts toward your Battle Pass and general account progression. The XP purchase is limited to once per day. It resets on a daily timer, not per match. Do not spend Sprite Dust trying to buy XP twice in the same day — the option will not appear again until the next reset. Portable Extractors
Portable Extractors are consumable items that let you extract your equipped Sprite from anywhere on the map — no Extraction Site required. The extraction takes around 5 seconds. That is much faster than calling a standard Extraction Crate, which requires activating a terminal and waiting roughly 30 seconds while the site broadcasts your location with loud noise and a visible light beam.
Portable Extractors remove that exposure risk. You can extract a high-rarity Sprite quietly, mid-game, without alerting the lobby to your position. They are especially valuable when you have a Legendary or Mythic Sprite levelled up and cannot afford to lose it to a contested Extraction Site.
You can also earn Portable Extractors through Sprite Mastery rewards and by completing Bonus Goals quests. Save them for Sprites worth protecting rather than burning them on Rare Sprites you can easily re-summon for 100 Dust.
Sprite Dust Spending Priority — What to Buy First
Sprite Dust is persistent, but it takes time to build a stockpile. Here is a sensible order of priority for spending it:
- Daily XP purchase first. It refreshes every day. Always claim it at a Sprite Station at the start of your first match each day before spending Dust on anything else.
- Summon the Sprite you need for that session. If you are grinding a specific Sprite to mastery, summon it so you start with it active and avoid wasting early-match time finding one in the loot pool.
- Buy Portable Extractors when farming high-rarity Sprites. If you consistently play near risky Extraction Sites, Portable Extractors pay off by letting you bank progress safely and quietly.
- Weapon upgrades situationally. Useful if you land fast, grab a mid-tier weapon you like, and want to push it up a rarity tier before the first circle closes. Not a priority spend early in the season while your Dust reserves are still low.
What Happens to Sprite Dust If You Die
Nothing. Sprite Dust is not lost on death.
Unlike Gold Bars, Sprite Dust does not wipe at the end of a match. It stays on your account permanently regardless of how the match ends. You can die in the first 30 seconds of a game and every point of Sprite Dust you have earned across previous sessions remains intact.
This makes Sprite Dust fundamentally different from Gold and worth treating as a long-term investment. Build it gradually, spend it on summons and Portable Extractors when the value is there, and do not panic-spend it just because your Dust total is growing.
