Fortnite John Wick Pen & Ink Skin: How to Unlock the Battle Pass Skin and Dog Sidekick

Fortnite John Wick Pen & Ink skin explained — Battle Pass level requirement, all set cosmetics, how to rescue or pet John Wick's Dog in 2026, and both spawn locations.

  • The John Wick (Pen & Ink) skin is a Chapter 7 Season 3 Battle Pass exclusive — a comic-style ink-drawn version of the assassin, separate from the Item Shop skin.
  • Unlock it by reaching Battle Pass Level 84 and purchasing all cosmetics on Page 1 of the John Wick (Pen & Ink) set.
  • The Dog (Pen & Ink) Sidekick requires a separate quest — rescue or pet John Wick’s Dog in a match.
  • The dog spawns at one of two random locations each match: the Sinister Strip casino lobby or the Battlewoods sewers.
  • Rescuing the dog rewards full HP and Shields, a Mythic 9mm Baba Yaga pistol, and a chance at a Legendary Lancehead Pistol.
  • The set includes a glider, pickaxe, and kicks alongside the outfit and dog sidekick.
  • A third John Wick style unlocks on July 30, 2026. Page 2 of the set adds the John Wick Chapter Two style.

The Fortnite John Wick Pen & Ink skin is the headline collaboration in the Chapter 7 Season 3 Runners Battle Pass. It is not the same as the classic John Wick skin that has been in the Item Shop for years. This version uses a hand-drawn, comic-book art style — cel-shaded lines and illustrated details instead of a photorealistic look — making it a visually distinct new take on the character. More importantly, it comes with John Wick’s Dog as a separate Sidekick that you have to earn through an in-match quest.

Here is how to unlock both the skin and the dog, where to find the dog in every match, what you get for rescuing him, and everything else in the John Wick set.

What Is the John Wick Pen & Ink Skin in Fortnite?

John Wick (Pen & Ink) is an Epic-rarity Battle Pass outfit introduced in Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 3. It depicts the fictional assassin John Wick in a comic-book illustration style — hand-drawn lines, ink shading, and a sketched finish similar to what Fortnite has done previously with The Mandalorian and Deadpool in earlier seasons.

This is the third John Wick outfit in Fortnite’s history. The original skin — modeled after Keanu Reeves — has been in the Item Shop since Season 9 and appeared there over 70 times. The Pen & Ink variant is a completely new cosmetic and is not part of the original John Wick Item Shop set. Despite literally depicting John Wick, it belongs to its own separate Battle Pass set.

The inclusion of the Pen & Ink style drew some community debate, since the original realistic skin remains available in the Item Shop for 2,000 V-Bucks. Players who already own that skin are getting a stylistically different version through the Battle Pass rather than a straightforward reskin. The Dog Sidekick — which was never available before in any form — is generally seen as the more valuable addition for existing John Wick skin owners.

How to Unlock the John Wick Pen & Ink Skin

The John Wick (Pen & Ink) outfit unlocks through the Chapter 7 Season 3 Battle Pass. Here is exactly what you need:

  • Own the Runners Battle Pass — costs 800 V-Bucks or is included with a Fortnite Crew subscription at $11.99 per month.
  • Reach Battle Pass Level 84 — the John Wick set pages become accessible at Level 84.
  • Purchase all cosmetics on Page 1 of the John Wick (Pen & Ink) set using Battle Stars earned through XP progression.

Completing Page 1 unlocks the outfit itself. Page 2 — which adds the John Wick Chapter Two additional style — becomes available once Page 1 is complete. A third style is locked and scheduled to unlock on July 30, 2026 later in the season.

There are no level requirements attached to the Dog Sidekick quest. You can rescue the dog at any point in the season, regardless of how far along you are in the Battle Pass, as long as you own the pass. For faster XP to hit Level 84, check the Chapter 7 Season 3 XP farm guide.

How to Unlock the Dog (Pen & Ink) Sidekick

John Wick’s Dog — officially the Dog (Pen & Ink) Sidekick — is not unlocked by leveling the Battle Pass. It requires a specific in-match quest: rescue or pet John Wick’s Dog.

You must own the Chapter 7 Season 3 Battle Pass for the quest to register. Without it, you can still interact with the dog if another player has freed him, but the Sidekick will not unlock on your account.

Once unlocked, the Dog (Pen & Ink) Sidekick comes with additional styles, an Emoticon, a Reaction, and an Emote. Unlike other Sidekicks, you do not need to lock in a final look. All customization options unlock automatically by playing matches with the Dog Sidekick equipped.

Where to Find John Wick’s Dog — Both Spawn Locations

John Wick’s Dog spawns in one of two random locations each match. The game selects the spot at the start of the game — you won’t know which one until you drop. If you arrive at the first location and the dog isn’t there, rotate immediately to the second.

Listen for barking as you approach either location — you’ll hear him before you see the cage icon on your minimap.

Location 1 — Sinister Strip (Most Reliable)

Head to Sinister Strip and find the large casino building on the south side of the POI — just below where the Sinister Strip name appears on your map. The building is decorated with Dark Voyager statues in the lobby. The dog’s cage sits on the ground floor of the hotel lobby, in the center of the room.

This is the most commonly cited spawn and the first place to check every match. Sinister Strip is a high-traffic POI due to the Mythic Seven Sliders in the Electric Room, so expect other players to be nearby. Land on or near the casino building and grab a weapon from surrounding chests before approaching the cage.

Location 2 — Battlewoods Sewers

If the dog isn’t at Sinister Strip, he’s in the sewers beneath The Battlewoods, in the northeast of the POI. The sewers are accessed by jumping into the river that runs alongside Battlewoods. There are three entry points:

  • Eastern wall — direct river entry on the east side
  • Northern entrance — north of the main sewer complex
  • Southern entrance — approach from the east side of the Golden Reel movie theater rather than from the water

Once inside the sewers, follow the tunnels until you find the cage. The Battlewoods location is less contested than Sinister Strip, making it the safer choice if you’re attempting the quest solo or with a small squad.

How to Rescue John Wick’s Dog — Step by Step

  • Step 1 — Land near whichever spawn location you’re checking. Grab a weapon and shields before approaching the cage. The area is defended and you need to be armed.
  • Step 2 — Approach the cage. Two NPC guards will open fire. Take them down — headshots make this faster. Keep moving; standing still makes you an easy target for both the NPCs and any real players in the area.
  • Step 3 — After the first pair falls, a second wave of guards rifts in. Clear all of them before touching the cage — the cage stays locked while enemies are active nearby.
  • Step 4 — Walk up to the cage and press E (PC) / X (PlayStation) / A (Xbox) to interact and open it. The dog steps out.
  • Step 5 — Press the Interact button again to pet the dog. This completes the Battle Pass quest and unlocks the Dog (Pen & Ink) Sidekick.

If another player reached the dog first and already freed it, you don’t need to fight anyone. Just walk up to the dog where it’s roaming free nearby and press Interact to pet it. The quest completes and the Sidekick unlocks — no combat required.

You only need to complete this quest once. The Sidekick is yours permanently after one successful rescue or petting.

Rewards for Rescuing John Wick’s Dog

Freeing the dog does more than just unlock the Sidekick. It also gives you in-match rewards:

  • Full HP and Shields restore — petting the dog immediately fills your health and shields to maximum.
  • Mythic 9mm Baba Yaga pistol — the dog drops this weapon on rescue. This is one of the Mythic weapons in the Runners season, themed around John Wick’s iconic pistol from the films.
  • Chance at a Legendary Lancehead Pistol — there’s also a chance the rescue drops a Legendary version of the Lancehead Pistol, John Wick’s 21-round magazine sidearm.

This makes the dog rescue one of the most rewarding early-match objectives in Chapter 7 Season 3 even for players who don’t care about the Sidekick unlock. Landing at Sinister Strip for the Mythic pistol and a full HP reset is worth it on its own merits, and the Sidekick unlock is a free bonus on top.

John Wick as an NPC in Fortnite Runners

John Wick (Pen & Ink) also appears as an NPC character near Calamari Canyon on the Shattered Coast map. Like other Chapter 7 Season 3 NPCs, he can be interacted with in matches. His exact services and dialogue — including his in-game line “You and I left a good life behind a long time ago, my friend” — are tied to the character’s role in the season’s story.

The NPC spawn is separate from the dog rescue quest. You can interact with John Wick as an NPC regardless of whether you own the Battle Pass skin.

John Wick Pen & Ink vs Original John Wick Skin

If you already own the classic John Wick skin from the Item Shop, here’s what’s different about the Pen & Ink version:

  • Art style — Pen & Ink uses a hand-drawn comic illustration look. The original is photorealistic.
  • Rarity — Pen & Ink is Epic rarity. The original Item Shop version is Legendary.
  • Set membership — Pen & Ink is not part of the John Wick Set from the Item Shop. It belongs to its own separate Battle Pass set.
  • Dog Sidekick — only available through the Pen & Ink Battle Pass. The classic John Wick skin has no associated dog companion.
  • Obtainability — Pen & Ink is Battle Pass exclusive. The original is a recurring Item Shop purchase at 2,000 V-Bucks.

The original John Wick skin and the Pen & Ink variant can both be owned simultaneously. They’re independent cosmetics in separate sets.
