TL;DR – Quick Summary
- Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy has two puzzle systems: Minoan light-and-symbol puzzles in the present timeline, and combat gauntlets as Theseus in ancient Minoa flashbacks.
- The core tool for every puzzle is the Minoan Sphere — use Light Reveal (hold R1/RB near a light source) to expose hidden symbols, and Light Splitting to align coloured beams at gem receivers.
- Blue lines on the floor always connect pedestals to their matching wall symbols — use these before rotating anything.
- Major puzzle chapters are 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, and 11. Chapters 1, 2, 3, 8, and 14 have no significant puzzles.
- Theseus flashback sequences in Chapters 4, 5, and 7 are pure combat arenas — no puzzles. Win the fights to continue.
- The Minotaur Arena in Chapter 4 is the most complex single puzzle in the game — it requires three steps, six symbols, and all three light panels including the centre one.
- Bull Pillar puzzles appear in Chapters 5, 6, 7, and 10 — all optional, all reward a secret blade or chest.
- All puzzles are replayable via Chapter Select if you get stuck or want to redo them.
Learning how to solve all Ancient Minoa timeline puzzles in Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy is one of the most rewarding parts of the game. The island of Minos is built around Daedalus-engineered mechanisms — doors sealed by light, symbols carved into walls, mirrors that redirect beams, and pedestals that record ancient knowledge. Every puzzle in the game uses the same underlying toolkit, but the combinations grow more complex as you go deeper into the trials. This guide covers every puzzle in order, chapter by chapter, with exact solutions. If you want to understand where each puzzle symbol fits into the broader collectible picture alongside Theseus Echoes and Axe Chalice locations, the all symbol locations guide covers both puzzle and collectible symbols across every chapter in one place.
How the Puzzle System Works – Core Mechanics
Before diving into solutions, it’s important to understand the three mechanics that every puzzle in the game is built on. Once you understand these, you can often work out solutions yourself before referring to this guide.
Light Reveal (Hold R1 / Hold RB Near a Light Source)
Standing inside any active light source — a beam from the ceiling, a lit floor plate, a torch zone — and holding R1 on PlayStation or RB on Xbox activates the sphere’s reveal pulse. This makes hidden symbols visible on walls and floors, shows blue connection lines from pedestals to their matching wall symbols, and exposes cogwheels, pressure points, and other concealed interactive elements. This ability is introduced in Chapter 4 and is used in every major puzzle from that point forward. If a puzzle room has a light source and a locked door, your first action should always be to stand in the light and use Light Reveal.
Light Splitting (R1/RB + D-Pad to Switch Modes)
The sphere can also split a single light beam into three coloured beams — red, green, and blue. Once in splitting mode, rotate each beam individually using the face buttons to point it at the corresponding coloured gem receiver on a door, pillar, or statue. This is used for unlocking doors that have three gem sockets and for the bull pillar puzzles that reward secret blades. Each coloured beam must hit its matching receiver simultaneously.
Pedestal Rotation and Symbol Matching
Many rooms have stone pedestals you can rotate to display different symbols on their faces. Shine the sphere at each pedestal to see a blue line on the floor. Follow that line to the wall — it leads to a carved symbol. Rotate the pedestal until it shows that symbol. When all pedestals in a room match their wall symbols, the door opens. This mechanic appears in Chapters 3, 4, 5, and 10.
What Happens in the Ancient Minoa Flashbacks?
When Sophia interacts with certain mechanisms or doors deep in the trials, she gets pulled into a vision of the ancient past — the same island, but thousands of years earlier, seen through the eyes of Theseus. These ancient Minoa sequences look and feel very different from the present-day gameplay.
In the flashback sections, you play as Theseus — a warrior competing in the ancient Minoan trials. These sequences are almost exclusively combat-focused. You face waves of rival fighters in arena settings, survive creature evasion sequences using the same light-and-dark rules Sophia uses in Chapter 6, and occasionally face champion fighters as boss encounters. There are no puzzle mechanics unique to the ancient timeline — the light, sphere, and symbol systems are all present-day tools. The ancient Minoa sections contribute to the story, reveal lore about the island’s original purpose, and feed the symbols Sophia records in her journal. When the vision ends, you return to the present with new information about how to proceed.
To understand how the dual timeline connects Sophia’s medieval story to Theseus’s ancient one on a deeper level, the dual timeline mechanic guide explains the design in full. For how the historical setting of Ancient Minoa grounds the island’s visual design, the historical settings guide covering Medieval France and Ancient Minoa is worth reading alongside this one.
Chapter 4 – From Hell It Rose (All Six Puzzle Solutions)
Chapter 4 is the first heavily puzzle-focused chapter and introduces the sphere’s Light Reveal ability. It contains six major puzzles in sequence, each one building on the last.
Puzzle 1 – Three Pedestal Symbol Room (Sub-Chapter 1)
The first puzzle room has three rotating pedestals and a locked door. Shine the sphere at each pedestal to see the blue floor lines connecting them to their wall symbols. Rotate each pedestal until it displays the correct symbol.
Solution (left to right): Y symbol — C symbol — Up Arrow symbol (↑)
When all three pedestals match, the door opens. Walk through.
Puzzle 2 – Light Reflector Zigzag (Sub-Chapter 2)
A room with a locked door has a light shining down the right side and four reflectors. Above the door you entered from, there is a floor plate on the upper level — go upstairs and stand on it to activate the light source. Now you must bounce the beam through each reflector in the correct order until it hits the symbol carved on the sealed door.
Solution: Left reflector → Right reflector → Front-left reflector → Front-right reflector → Door symbol
Puzzle 3 – Two Pedestal Maze Door (Sub-Chapter 2)
Another pedestal room, this time with just two pedestals and a locked gate. Shine the sphere, follow the blue lines.
Solution: Left pedestal = O symbol — Right pedestal = I symbol (sometimes appears as an F shape depending on angle)
Puzzle 4 – Spike Trap Corridor (Sub-Chapter 3)
The spike trap section uses symbols on the walls to indicate which floor tiles are safe. Shine the sphere as you move through to see them. This section has three distinct trap areas plus a large room with Leni’s help.
- Trap 1: Far left tiles — follow the leftmost column all the way through
- Trap 2: Start on the right two tiles, then angle diagonally left mid-way
- Trap 3: Take the third hole from the left — look for the scales symbol on the adjacent wall as confirmation
- Large room with Leni: Boost Leni up the left side — she shines the light reflector at you. Switch to the sphere’s path-reading mode (D-pad right) and a blue line appears on the floor showing the exact safe route. Follow it. The light may get blocked by walls occasionally — memorise the path in sections when this happens rather than stopping mid-room.
For a full spike trap breakdown with every safe tile marked by position, the Chapter 4 spike trap guide covers it step by step.
Puzzle 5 – Theseus Vision (Sub-Chapter 4 – Combat Only)
After the spike traps, Sophia has a vision. You play as Theseus in the ancient Minoan arena. This is a pure combat sequence — no puzzle mechanics. Defeat the rival warriors as Theseus to progress. Once the vision ends, Sophia returns to the present with the arena’s memory fresh in her mind.
Puzzle 6 – Minotaur Arena (Sub-Chapter 5) – Three Steps
The Minotaur Arena is the largest and most complex puzzle in Chapter 4. It is the centrepiece of the First Trial. Walk around the full perimeter of the arena before doing anything — Sophia auto-records the first two symbol pairs in her journal as she passes close enough to them. Look at the floor between the mirrors: white symbols with blue outlines show which pairs are linked. You need to illuminate each linked pair simultaneously.
Step 1 — Raise the right hand (Pair 1: Bell icon and T icon)
- Shine the right panel at the front-left wall — aim for the 1st symbol icon from the left (the Bell / semicircle shape)
- Shine the left panel at the back-right wall — aim for the 3rd symbol icon from the left (the T shape)
- Both light up simultaneously → Minotaur’s right hand rises onto the platform
Step 2 — Raise the left hand (Pair 2: Inverse-S icon and Triangle icon)
- Shine the left panel at the front-right wall — aim for the 3rd symbol icon from the left (Inverse S / upside-down harp shape)
- Shine the right panel at the front-left wall — aim for the 4th symbol icon from the left (Triangle)
- Both light up simultaneously → Minotaur’s left hand rises
Step 3 — Raise the head (Hidden symbols — requires the centre panel)
- Walk to each raised stone hand on the platform and use Light Reveal (R1/RB) on the rings carved into the wrists. Two new symbols glow into view — Sophia records them. These symbols appear on the top-right section of the arena wall, which is why they couldn’t be seen before
- This step uses the centre panel for the first time. To reach both targets on the top-right wall: shine the left panel at the front-right wall (4th icon from left, the h/upside-Y symbol) and aim the right panel into the centre panel — then direct the centre panel at the front-right wall (1st icon from left, the W symbol)
- All three panels active → Minotaur rises fully. A pedestal socket appears between the two hands. Interact with it to complete the First Trial mechanism
For a dedicated breakdown of just this puzzle, the Minotaur room symbols puzzle guide for Chapter 4 covers every step in detail. The full Chapter 4 puzzle context from first room to final arena is in the Chapter 4 puzzles guide.
Chapter 5 – Desolation It Wrought (Eight Puzzle Solutions)
Chapter 5 is the game’s most puzzle-dense chapter. It centres on the Central Temple, four symbol trial areas, and multiple light mechanisms. Here are all eight puzzles in order.
Puzzle 1 – Central Temple Entry Door (Sub-Chapter 1)
The sealed door into the Central Temple has three gem receivers and a floor plate. Interact with the pedestal in the middle of the room first to register it, then stand on the right-side floor plate. Shine the sphere and use Light Splitting mode. Rotate each coloured beam to align with the matching gem on the door.
Solution: Use face buttons to rotate until Red, Green, and Blue beams each hit their matching gem simultaneously. The correct alignment is specific to the door’s gem arrangement — the sphere shows you where each colour needs to go.
Puzzle 2 – Theseus Vision Combat (Sub-Chapter 2 – Combat Only)
Another ancient Minoa flashback. As Theseus, fight your way through rival warriors in the arena. Defeat Cadmos to claim the C symbol from the ancient Receptacle. Sophia records the symbol from the vision when she returns to the present.
Puzzle 3 – Platform Tile Jump Sequence (Sub-Chapter 3, First Symbol)
To claim the first symbol from its trial area, you must cross a field of tile platforms. Jump on the wrong tile and you fall. Look at the symbols on the floor in front of the platform field — they show the exact safe jump order. There are four columns (1 = leftmost, 4 = rightmost).
Safe jump order (story path, no collectibles):
- Dots (column 2) → Kraken (3) → Dots (3) → Flower (2) → Kraken (2) → Dots (2) → Kraken (3, diagonal jump right) → Dots (2, jump back) → Flower (2, jump forward) → Kraken (3, run-jump diagonal) → Dots (3)
Collectible path (grabs the hidden relic): Jump Dots (2) → Kraken (3) → Dots (3) → Flower (2) → Kraken (2) → Dots (2) → Kraken (1, jump left). Then climb the rocks on the left and shimmy across the gap to reach the relic. Return and continue: Dots (1) → Flower (2) → Kraken (3) → Dots (3) → Kraken (3, jump back) → Dots (3, jump forward) → Flower (3, jump right).
Interact with the Receptacle at the far end to collect the first symbol. For a step-by-step breakdown of reaching this trial, our Chapter 5 first symbol guide covers the full route from the Central Temple.
Puzzle 4 – Bull Pillar (Optional, Rewards Greek Sword Blade)
From the Central Temple’s four-pedestal room, take the exit with the “O with 3 lines” icon above the gate. Cross the bridge, go left, drop down to the enemies, defeat them. Do not go upstairs to the bull door — instead go the opposite direction to find an abandoned camp with a large bull pillar. Climb the rocks on the left side to reach the top.
Stand on the lit floor plate at the end of the left pillar. Use Light Splitting mode and align all three coloured beams with the coloured gems on the bull pillar. Hold R1/RB, switch to beams with D-pad left/right, rotate with face buttons. When all three gems are lit, the axe symbol on the floor opens a staircase into a crypt. Go down and open the chest for the Greek Sword blade.
Puzzle 5 – First Statue Door (Sub-Chapter 3, Trial Interior)
Inside the first trial area, stand on the lit floor plate where light shines from the ceiling. Shine the sphere in Light Splitting mode and align the three coloured beams with the three gem receivers around the door.
Solution: Red beam = left statue helmet gem — Green beam = middle gem — Blue beam = right statue hand gem
Puzzle 6 – Second Statue Door (Sub-Chapter 3)
The same mechanic, a different door. Stand on the lit floor plate again and align the beams.
Solution: Green beam = top gem — Blue beam = bottom gem — Red beam = right statue eye gem
Puzzle 7 – Third Trial Area: Cog, Spikes, and Door (Sub-Chapter 3)
This puzzle has multiple stages inside a single trial room.
- Shine the mirror at the front-right dust cloud — this reveals a hidden cogwheel underneath. Use the cog, then let go — Leni takes over and holds it for you.
- Jump over the raised platform and stand in the light on the other side. Align the sphere’s coloured beams with the gems on the right wall.
- Run-jump over the spike section, reach the light on the far side, and align the beams with the opposite wall’s gems.
- Jump over the next set of platforms. Leni will shine a mirror at you from above. Switch to path-reading mode (D-pad right) to see the blue line showing the safe route through the spikes. Follow it to the door.
- Stand in the light at the final door and align the beams. Solution: Green = rightmost gem below door — Red = rightmost gem below door — Blue = rightmost gem below door. All three beams target the rightmost cluster.
Puzzle 8 – Mirror Room (Sub-Chapter 3, Four-Symbol Trial)
This room has a central pillar with three coloured dots on it and several mirrors on different levels. You need to route each coloured beam to its matching dot on the central pillar.
- Red beam: Shine at the rightmost mirror → reflect to the right side of the central pillar
- Blue beam: Shine at the left mirror → back mirror on the lower level → mirror between the last two → left side of the pillar (four reflections total)
- Green beam: Shine at the back-right mirror → reflect to the back of the central pillar
When all three coloured dots on the pillar are lit simultaneously, the pillar lowers and a pedestal appears. Interact with it. Then return through the bull gate you came from — back to the Central Temple.
Inserting the Symbols at the Central Temple Pedestals
After collecting all three available symbols from the trial areas, return to the Central Temple and insert them into the correct pedestals. Shine the sphere at each pedestal — the blue floor lines show which pedestal connects to which exit path’s symbol. Insert each into the pedestal whose floor line points toward that trial’s gate icon.
Correct placements:
- The “Inverted P” symbol goes into the pedestal in front of the Dice Icon path
- The “h” symbol goes into the pedestal in front of the “O with 3 lines” Icon path
- The “O” symbol goes into the pedestal in front of the “O Over a Line” Icon path
Chapter 6 – What Lies Beneath (Bull Pillar – Optional)
Chapter 6 is the creature evasion chapter. Most of its puzzles are simple door-opening mechanics using the new Daedalus’s Key. The one notable optional puzzle is the bull pillar in Sub-Chapter 5.
Bull Pillar Puzzle (Optional, Rewards Sica Blade)
After the Daedalus’s Key cutscene, go through the first green gate using the key. In the next corridor, turn left through a small tunnel instead of continuing forward. This leads to an optional puzzle chamber with a bull pillar and several lit platforms.
Solution: Jump on the first lit platform on the left. Use Light Splitting mode and align the three beams with the bull pillar’s coloured gems: Green = below the bull pillar — Blue = below the platform you’re standing on — Red = the pillar at the back-right (the light reflects back off a mirror behind it). When all three gems are lit, the axe symbol opens a staircase. Go down and open the chest for the Sica blade.
Chapter 7 – Death It Sowed (Two Puzzle Solutions)
Puzzle 1 – Lever Gate Puzzle (Sub-Chapter 1)
A bone-filled chamber with a sealed door and two levers. The levers control mirror angles near the door. No light source is active yet — you create one by adjusting the levers correctly.
Solution: Use the back lever first to angle the light in a straight line through the first mirror. Then use the second lever to rotate the second mirror so the beam deflects downward onto a green floor plate in front of the door. Stand on the lit plate and use Light Splitting mode to align the three coloured beams with the three receivers on the door simultaneously.
Puzzle 2 – Black Temple Interior Light Puzzle (Sub-Chapter 3)
Inside the Black Temple’s circular room, a large skull-decorated door needs two skull switches found using Light Reveal, then a three-mirror alignment to create platforms over the central pit.
- Stand in the light near the circular platform — shine the sphere at the wall to find the first blue-highlighted skull switch. Press it. More enemies spawn. Defeat them.
- Stand in the light on the left side of the room now — shine the sphere at the wall again to find the second skull switch. Press it.
- Return to the skull door and interact with the Receptacle at its base. The pedestal rotates. Interact again and use the left stick to move the central mirror to the middle position.
- Stand on the floor plate in front of the pedestal and use Light Splitting mode: Green beam = middle mirror — Red beam = left mirror — Blue beam = right mirror. Platforms appear over the pit leading down to the trial entrance.
The Chapter 7 Theseus memory combat sequences — the four-fight gauntlet, the creature evasion arena, and the Cercyon boss fight — are all covered in detail in the Chapter 7 Death It Sowed walkthrough.
Chapter 10 – Parallel Paths (Two Puzzle Solutions)
Puzzle 1 – Bull Pillar (Sub-Chapter 2, Optional)
This bull pillar has a twist. Before using it, destroy all the vases in the area — one of them is concealing a blue gem that is needed for the puzzle. Once the gem is exposed, use the pedestal in front of the bull statue to activate the light platforms. Get onto the lit platform in the right corner.
Solution: Red beam = Left gem — Green beam = Middle gem — Blue beam = Right gem (the one that was hidden under a vase). When all three are lit, a crypt opens in front of the pedestal. Drop down and open the chest inside.
Puzzle 2 – Mirror Chain and Three Pedestal Door (Sub-Chapter 2)
This is the largest puzzle in Chapter 10. A big open area has several large mirrors and a round gate with three pedestals in front of it. A waterfall cave on the side of the area contains the puzzle’s starting point.
- Enter the waterfall cave. Find the mirror inside with a central wheel — interact with the central wheel and rotate the left stick clockwise until the light switches on. Do not use the smaller side wheels — those only aim the mirror.
- Now route the beam through a chain of four mirrors in this order: Waterfall cave mirror → mirror behind the cave → mirror on the scaffold on the side of the area → mirror on the platform in the middle of the area.
- Boost Faro up to the middle-area platform. Enemies appear — defeat them for a Resonance Point. Faro now holds his mirror steady, shining light toward the corner to the right of the gate.
- Stand on the floor plate in that lit corner. Faro shines his beam at you — use the sphere and aim it at the round green metal piece on the gate to reveal a hidden blue icon. Sophia records it in her journal.
- Walk to the stelae (stone tablets) in the lit area near the three pedestals. Use Light Reveal to see six symbols on the tablets — these tell you where to position the red, green, and blue gems on the gate. Move each pedestal’s gem to the correct position as indicated, then stand in the light at the door and use Light Splitting to simultaneously hit all three gem receivers. The gate opens.
Chapter 11 – Patera (Two Puzzle Solutions)
Puzzle 1 – Light Beam Lever Room (Sub-Chapter 1)
At the start of Chapter 11, slide down a cave and reach a round room with a beam of light shining straight down through the centre. Two levers control the beam’s redirection.
Solution: Use the rightmost lever first, then let go — Faro steps in and holds it. Now pull the left lever back to redirect the combined beam so it melts away the dust blocking the far passage. The path clears.
Puzzle 2 – Petrified Crank Puzzle (Sub-Chapter 2)
After an elevator ride, you reach a puzzle with a petrified mechanism. A weight at the end of the path can be pulled forward to rotate a cover over part of the light beam.
- Pull the weight forward along the track toward you until you reach a lever. The cover now blocks the beam from one section of the path.
- Pull the lever to rotate the covered section of light all the way forward until the beam reaches the second crank at the far end of the area.
- Return to the crank at the start of the area — the one near where you began. Rotate it clockwise using the left stick, all the way around. This shifts the full light rotation forward, eliminating the beam that was blocking the exit passage entirely.
- Walk through the now-clear end of the path to continue.

General Tips for All Ancient Minoa Puzzles
- Always use Light Reveal first in any new room with a light source. It reveals everything — hidden switches, blue floor lines, concealed symbols. Skipping this step is why most players get stuck.
- Follow the blue floor lines before rotating pedestals. The lines are the puzzle’s own built-in guide. They never lie. If you can’t figure out a pedestal puzzle, the line from that pedestal tells you exactly what symbol it needs.
- In multi-mirror puzzles, start at the light source and work outward. Find the active light first, then trace where it needs to go. Working backwards from the locked door is harder.
- Bull pillar puzzles are always optional but always reward a blade or chest. If you see a large carved bull pillar with a floor plate nearby, it’s a secret — take the time to solve it.
- Theseus flashback sequences are combat, not puzzles. Don’t look for a light-based solution in the ancient arena. Just fight. The game is clear when you’ve crossed into a vision — the visual style shifts entirely.
- The centre panel in the Minotaur Arena (Chapter 4) is only used in Step 3. This confuses a lot of players. Don’t touch the centre panel until you’ve revealed the hidden hand symbols in Step 3 — it doesn’t do anything useful before that point.
If you want to understand how Sophia’s skills can make the combat sections around these puzzles easier, the best skills to unlock first guide helps you prioritise your Resonance Points. For the platform puzzle in Chapter 3 that leads into the trial system, our Chapter 3 platform guide covers that section fully. Frequently Asked Questions
What is the hardest puzzle in Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy?
The Minotaur Arena at the end of Chapter 4 is widely considered the most complex single puzzle in the game. It has three distinct steps, requires the player to illuminate six symbols across two pairs, uses all three light panels including the centre one which hasn’t been needed before, and has a hidden final pair that only appears after using Light Reveal on the Minotaur’s raised stone hands. Most players get stuck at Step 3 because they don’t think to use the sphere on the hands themselves. The Chapter 10 mirror chain puzzle is a close second in complexity, requiring you to route light through four sequential mirrors before reaching the pedestal room.
How do you use the Minoan Sphere to solve puzzles?
The Minoan Sphere has two main puzzle modes. The first is Light Reveal — stand inside any active light source and hold R1 on PlayStation or RB on Xbox. This makes hidden symbols, blue floor-connection lines, and concealed switches appear briefly. The second is Light Splitting — switch to this mode with the D-pad while the sphere is active, then use the face buttons to rotate each coloured beam (red, green, blue) individually until each one points at its matching coloured gem receiver. Both modes are used in nearly every puzzle from Chapter 4 onward. Light Reveal is always the first thing to try in any new room that has a locked door and a light source.
Do the Ancient Minoa flashback sequences have puzzles?
No. The Ancient Minoa sections where you play as Theseus are entirely combat-focused. You fight rival warriors in arena sequences, evade the creature using the same light-and-movement rules Sophia uses in Chapter 6, and occasionally face champion boss fights. The light, sphere, and symbol puzzle mechanics are all tools of the present-day timeline. The ancient Minoa flashbacks contribute lore and symbols that Sophia records in her journal — which then inform the present-day puzzle solutions — but the ancient sequences themselves do not contain any puzzles to solve.
Can you redo puzzles in Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy?
Yes. Every chapter and sub-chapter is available for replay through Chapter Select after you have completed it. This means you can return to any puzzle room at any time — whether to try again after getting stuck, to collect a missed item near a puzzle, or simply to replay a section you enjoyed. The only items that do not carry over through Chapter Select are Resonance Points, which are permanently lost if not collected during your active playthrough. All puzzle progress, story flags, and non-Resonance-Point collectibles save normally.
