Just days after Palworld 1.0 hit nearly a million concurrent Steam players, Pocketpair is swinging for another first: an official trading card game. The Palworld Official Card Game’s Dawn of Palpagos expansion launches on July 30, 2026, published by Bushiroad — the same powerhouse behind Cardfight!! Vanguard and Weiss Schwarz — and it’s shaping up to be more than a novelty cash grab. Pre-orders are live through local game stores now, with demo events running at over 200 retail locations throughout July.

Here’s everything revealed about the set, how the card game actually works, and what’s coming alongside the booster packs at launch.

What Is the Palworld Official Card Game?

The Palworld Official Card Game (POCG) is a two-player competitive TCG developed by Yuhodo Inc. and published by Bushiroad, with full licensing from Pocketpair. Unlike some licensed card games that borrow a familiar name and staple it to a generic format, the Palworld TCG is built around the specific systems of the video game itself — Pals working at bases, gear equipping to creatures, and structures deployed around your camp all translate directly into card mechanics.

Every card in the game features brand-new original illustrations created specifically for the TCG. No recycled in-game screenshots or repurposed promotional art — every Pal card, gear card, event card, and structure card has artwork commissioned exclusively for this product.

Dawn of Palpagos — The Full Set Breakdown

Dawn of Palpagos (BP01) is the game’s first booster expansion. Here are the key numbers:

    • 100 unique base cards
    • 61 parallel art variants
    • 6 rarities: Common (C), Uncommon (U), Rare (R), Double Rare (RR), Over Super Rare (OSR), and Special (SP)
    • 7 cards per booster pack
    • 12 packs per booster box
    • Booster box price: Approximately $44.99

The Over Super Rare cards are positioned as the chase cards of the set — full-art versions of fan-favorite Pals that are the hardest to pull and the most visually striking. Katress, the fan-favorite Dark Pal, has been confirmed as one of the OSR cards, featuring a full-art version of the cat-like creature that’s sure to be the most sought-after card in the set.

Two Trial Decks Launch Alongside BP01

For players who want to jump in without hunting booster packs, Bushiroad is also releasing two ready-to-play Trial Decks on the same day:

    • Dawn of Palpagos Red•Blue (TD01) — 25-card set, starter deck focused on Red and Blue color types
    • Dawn of Palpagos Green•Purple (TD02) — 25-card set, starter deck focused on Green and Purple color types

Each Trial Deck contains a ready-to-play 50-card Main Deck and a 10-card Soul Deck. They’re designed to be fully functional out of the box for two players to learn the game immediately, and they’re also fully compatible and mixable with BP01 booster pulls — so Trial Deck cards can slot into custom booster decks and vice versa.

Every Card Type in the Palworld TCG Explained

The game uses five distinct card types, each serving a specific role that maps directly to how Palworld works as a video game:

Pal Cards are your primary units. Each Pal has three key stats — Cost (how many Souls it takes to deploy), Power (its combat strength), and Strike (its attack count). Pal Cards are deployed to your Base zone, where they can attack opponents, block incoming attacks, or be assigned to Structure cards.

Gear Cards are equipment that attach to Pals to provide stat bonuses or special effects. Confirmed gear cards include a Single-Shot Rifle and the Makeshift Handgun from the base game, as well as Daedream’s Necklace, which attaches to Pals and modifies their combat behavior.

Structure Cards are deployed to your Base and provide continuous effects that persist across multiple turns. The Mounted Machine Gun is a confirmed structure card. Structure cards often require Pals with specific Work Suitability keywords assigned to them to activate their effects — meaning a Structure requiring Watering needs a Pal like Fuack or Pengullet assigned to it before it powers up. This is the mechanic most directly borrowed from the video game.

Event Cards are one-time-use cards for immediate tempo or disruption. Reckless Charge is a confirmed example. They’re played for burst effects rather than sustained advantage.

Soul Cards form the separate 10-card Soul Deck and serve as the resource engine. They are not drawn from the Main Deck — they sit in a dedicated zone and are spent to pay the costs of deploying Pals, Structures, and Gear.

    How the Game Actually Works

Each player starts at 10 life and builds a 50-card Main Deck plus a separate 10-card Soul Deck. You win by attacking your opponent down to 0 life, or by making them draw from an empty deck.

Decks can include up to two colors from Red, Blue, Green, and Purple, plus Colorless cards that work in any deck. No more than four copies of any card with the same name can be included. The color system creates natural faction identities — Red/Blue and Green/Purple are the two starting alignments from the Trial Decks, each with their own playstyle.

Each turn runs through five phases:

    • Stand: Return any rested (turned sideways) cards to their upright position
    • Draw: Draw one card from your Main Deck
    • Soul: Add two Souls to your Soul zone for resource spending
    • Main: Deploy Pals by paying their Soul cost, attack with standing Pals, and activate abilities
    • End: Battle damage heals and end-of-turn effects expire

The keyword ability system adds significant depth. Confirmed keywords include Assault (can attack through blockers), Quick (can be played on the opponent’s turn), Interrupt (responds to opponent actions), Taunt (forces opponents to target this Pal first), Retaliate (deals damage back to attackers), Stealth (ignores targeting effects), and Nocturnal (gains effects during the night phase).

The Work Suitability mechanic is the most unique system in the game. The same 12 work tags from the Palworld video game — Kindling, Watering, Planting, Mining, Handiwork, Lumbering, Medicine Production, Cooling, Transporting, Farming, Generating Electricity, and Gathering — appear on Structure cards as activation requirements. A Structure with a Mining requirement needs a Pal with the Mining Work tag assigned to it to function. This forces deck-building decisions that balance combat strength against industrial efficiency, making it feel genuinely like Palworld in card form.

What Pals and Characters Are in the Set

Dawn of Palpagos includes more than 50 individual Pal cards alongside human characters, weapons, and base structures. Confirmed inclusions span a wide range of the game’s roster:

Pals confirmed in the set: Katress (OSR), Chillet, Lifmunk, Depresso, Relaxaurus, Pengullet, Fuack, and many more across all four color types.

Human characters: Multiple card versions of Zoe, Lily, Victor, and Axel — the major human characters from the Palworld 1.0 storyline — each with different card effects tied to their roles in the game’s narrative.

Weapons and items: The Pengullet Rocket Launcher, Makeshift Handgun, Single-Shot Rifle, and Daedream’s Necklace are all confirmed as cards with their own mechanical effects.

Lucky Pal cards — a parallel version category for fan-favorite Pals — are also part of the set, with a cap of eight per deck. These function as standard cards but feature alternate holofoil art and are tracked separately in deck construction.

How This Stacks Up Against the Pokemon TCG

The Pokemon TCG is the obvious comparison — and the competition will be interesting. Pokemon is coming off years of record-breaking sales driven by sets like Prismatic Evolutions, and September 2026 will see the launch of the 30th Celebration expansion featuring high-value reprints likely to dominate collector attention throughout the fall. Palworld launching its card game in late July gives it a window to establish itself before that tsunami of Pokemon attention hits.

Where the Palworld TCG differentiates itself is in mechanical depth. Bushiroad’s competitive game design heritage, the Work Suitability system that borrows directly from the video game’s base-building mechanics, and the fully original illustration approach give it more substance than a typical licensed TCG. The partnership with Yuhodo Inc. for game balance also signals that this is being treated as a serious competitive product with organized play ambitions rather than a one-and-done merchandise push.

Pocketpair is also expanding the Palworld brand simultaneously through other channels. Palworld: Palfarm — a Stardew Valley-style farming sim spin-off announced in September 2025 — is in development with social farming elements and base-building carried over from the main game. Between a card game and a spin-off title, Palworld is clearly being built out as a long-term franchise rather than a single game hit.
