How to Unlock the World Tree in Palworld

World Tree in Palworld is the endgame zone added in 1.0 — here is how to remove the barrier, complete the Panthalus quest, and reach the final boss.

World Tree in Palworld is the game’s big endgame zone added with the 1.0 update, but a massive energy barrier blocks the entrance until you finish a specific chain of steps. This guide walks you through every step — from defeating all eight Tower Bosses to catching Panthalus and reaching the final boss inside.

  • The World Tree barrier only drops after you complete the full Panthalus quest chain
  • You must defeat all eight Tower Bosses across Palpagos, Feybreak, and Sunreach first
  • Collect four Echobones, craft the Echoing Flute, then catch Panthalus at the Deserted Islet
  • Interact with the World Tree terminal with Panthalus in your active party to drop the barrier
  • Inside, you face three Level 78 guardian bosses and a sealed door requiring all eight Key Spheres
  • The final boss is Zanara and Astralym at Level 80 with 420,000 HP — typeless, no elemental weakness
  • Bring a Gas Mask for radiation zones, and use Holy Water before picking up Paloxite or Mythical Wood

What Is the World Tree in Palworld

The World Tree has been visible on the horizon since the game launched in Early Access. It sits in the far northwest of the Palpagos Islands map and was blocked by a red energy barrier for a long time. With Palworld 1.0, it finally opened up as the game’s main endgame biome.

This zone has new Pals, exclusive crafting materials, radiation zones, and the final story quest called The Sealed Calamity. You also get access to the Pal Awakening system here, which lets you push your best Pals beyond their normal stat limits. It is not just a one-time visit — most players return repeatedly to farm resources and Radiant Gems.

Requirements to Unlock the World Tree

You cannot just fly over to the World Tree and walk in. The terminal in front of the barrier does nothing until you have met every requirement. Here is what you need before starting:

  • Defeat all eight Tower Bosses — six on the main Palpagos Islands, one on Feybreak, and one on the new Sunreach sky islands
  • Reach a high level — the Pals inside the World Tree are above Level 70, so being close to the Level 80 cap is strongly recommended
  • Have a strong flying mount — you need to travel across the map and reach the World Tree itself
  • Gear up — bring solid weapons, healing items, and a Gas Mask for radiation zones inside

If you are still working on your build, our best stats to level up first in Palworld 1.0 guide will help you prioritize correctly before tackling endgame content.

Step 1 — Defeat All Eight Tower Bosses

The very first thing you need to do is clear every faction tower in the game. Each Tower Boss drops a Key Sphere when defeated. These Key Spheres are required later inside the World Tree to open the final sealed door — there is no shortcut around this step.

The eighth and final Tower Boss is Auri and Shaolong on the Sunreach sky islands, added in 1.0. They sit at around Level 68. Once you beat them and speak to Auri to wrap up the Sunreach story, the Panthalus quest will become available. If you have not reached Sunreach yet, our guide on how to reach Sunreach Island in Palworld covers the route step by step.

After defeating Shaolong, you can also check our how to get Shaolong in Palworld guide if you want to add it to your team.

Step 2 — Find the Ancient Civilization Researcher at the Deserted Islet

Once all eight Tower Bosses are down, a quest marker will appear pointing you to the Deserted Islet. This is a small island located just east of the Isle of Murmurs, west of the No Man’s Trail fast travel point.

Head there with a flying mount. You will find an Ancient Civilization Researcher NPC standing near a glowing monument. Speak to him to accept the Panthalus quest. He will hand you the Faded Schematic and mark the locations of four Echobones on your map.

Do not fly to the World Tree terminal before finishing this quest chain — it simply will not react until the Panthalus steps are fully complete.

Step 3 — Collect All Four Echobones

The Echoing Flute is the summoning item for Panthalus, and you need one Echobone from each of four giant whale skeletons scattered across the map. Once the quest is active, each skeleton site shows a yellow beacon in the sky, making them easy to spot from the air.

The four Echobones are found at the following locations:

  • Crashing Wave Bone — near a coastal whale skeleton on the main island
  • Stillness Bone — found at a second whale remain site across the islands
  • Bubbling Bone — at a third marked skeleton location
  • Tidewind Echobone — located at the northern peaks of the Astral Mountains, in the frozen lake inside the Land of Absolute Zero

Track the Panthalus quest to keep all four markers visible on your map at once. Every site is near a fast travel point so this step does not take too long.

Step 4 — Craft the Echoing Flute

Once you have all four Echobones, go back to any workbench at your base. Even a basic Primitive Workbench works — you do not need an Ancient Workshop for this step. Use the Faded Schematic plus the four Echobones to craft the Echoing Flute.

The item description says it is a bone flute restored by deciphering the schematic, with a clear and echoing tone that awakens the guardian of the sea. That guardian is Panthalus.

Step 5 — Summon and Catch Panthalus

Bring the Echoing Flute back to the Deserted Islet. Speak to the Ancient Civilization Researcher again, then interact with the glowing shrine beside him. Your character will play the flute, and Panthalus appears.

Panthalus is a Level 70 Water-type Pal with around 350,000 HP. Here is what to know for the fight:

  • Bring Electric-type Pals — Beakon is a strong counter. Flying Pals like Jetragon, Shadowbeak, or Helzephyr Lux work well here too
  • In Phase 1, Panthalus sends out waves and bubbles. Fly or jump over the waves
  • In Phase 2, it moves closer and begins devastating body slam attacks. Stay mobile and never stand directly underneath it
  • Do NOT kill Panthalus — its HP drops to exactly 1 and stops there. Once it hits 1 HP, throw any Pal Sphere for a guaranteed catch
  • If you tend to overdamage, equip a Ring of Mercy to prevent accidental kills
  • You need the captured Panthalus in your active party to drop the World Tree barrier — killing it means starting the fight over

After the fight, return to the Researcher and report back. This hands you the follow-up quest called To the World Tree.

Step 6 — Interact with the World Tree Terminal

Now head to the World Tree. It is located in the far northwest of the main map, visible from great distances due to its massive glowing trunk. Travel there with your flying mount and make sure Panthalus is in your active party.

At the base of the tree you will find the locked Terminal in front of the barrier. Interact with it. A cutscene plays, the barrier vanishes, and the World Tree region becomes fully accessible. The Sealed Calamity quest begins.

The World Tree is located at coordinates approximately (-836, 710) on the map.

What Is Inside the World Tree

The World Tree is a sprawling endgame biome with several distinct areas. Here is what you will find inside:

Multiple Biomes Including a Radiation Zone

Some areas of the World Tree can be explored freely, but parts of the region are radiation zones. Wandering into these without a Gas Mask helmet will drain your health rapidly. Keep one equipped or in your inventory before going deeper.

Teafant Springs

Small stone fountain statues called Teafant Springs are scattered throughout the World Tree. Interact with one to restore the health of your character and your entire active party. Treat these as checkpoints during exploration — they also provide 10 vials of World Tree Holy Water per interaction.

Exclusive Resources

The World Tree has several materials found nowhere else in the game:

  • Paloxite — crystallized energy used for Level 70 tier armor and weapons
  • Mythical Wood — required for high-tier base structures
  • Radiant Gems — used to Awaken your Pals and unlock hidden stat boosts
  • World Tree Holy Water — must be applied to yourself and your active Pal before approaching Paloxite or Mythical Wood nodes, otherwise the materials vanish as you walk up to them
  • Ancient Civilization Relics — can be recycled at an Ancient Relic Recycler at your base to generate Holy Water, Paloxite, and Radiant Gems automatically

High-Level Wild Pals

The World Tree is packed with Pals above Level 70. Going in under-leveled means you will get eliminated fast. Make sure your team is strong and well-equipped before you start exploring beyond the entrance. You can also find Large Ominous Eggs scattered in the area, which have a high chance of producing Pals with World Tree Passive Skills.

The Sealed Calamity — Finishing the World Tree Story

After entering the World Tree, the main questline continues. Here is what you need to do to complete it:

Defeat Three Level 78 Guardian Bosses

Just past the entrance you will hit a second barrier. Next to it is a journal that marks three locations inside the World Tree. At each location is a Level 78 Boss Pal. Defeat all three and the inner barrier opens. One of these encounters throws a swarm of shadow-form Pals at you simultaneously — the most chaotic fight of the three. Stay on the move.

Open the Final Sealed Door With All Eight Key Spheres

Past the first inner barrier is a second, larger gate. This door checks for all eight Key Spheres — the ones you earned by defeating every Tower Boss earlier. If you followed the steps above you already have them. With all eight in your possession, the door opens.

Fight the Final Boss — Zanara and Astralym (Level 80)

Behind the final door is the true endgame boss: Zanara and Astralym, a Level 80 duo with around 420,000 HP combined. They are found in the tall tower in the western corner of the World Tree zone. Here is what makes this fight tough:

  • They are completely typeless — no elemental weakness to exploit at all. This is a pure gear and skill check
  • Near the end of the battle, Astralym enters an immune phase and uses a wing-charge attack that can instantly wipe your team
  • Stay mobile, dodge everything, and destroy the wings and leg orbs as soon as the center charge begins
  • Use top-tier Paloxite energy weapons like the Drone Launcher or Plasma Rifle for best results
  • Bring Awakened Pals, top-tier armor, and treat every hit as potentially lethal
  • Astralym is completely unobtainable — save your Spheres for other targets

Beating this duo ends the main story of Palworld 1.0 and triggers the final cutscene. But the World Tree remains a repeatable farming zone afterward — keep returning for Radiant Gems and endgame materials.

Tips Before You Enter the World Tree

  • Always carry World Tree Holy Water — without it, Paloxite and Mythical Wood vanish the moment you approach them
  • Equip a Gas Mask helmet before entering radiation zones or your health will drain steadily
  • Use Teafant Springs as healing checkpoints every time you find one — they also restock your Holy Water
  • Catch Pals with World Tree Passive Skills in your active party as an alternative to Holy Water — they bypass the resource vanish mechanic entirely
  • Run Pal Expeditions inside the zone to farm Paloxite without having to manually harvest every node
  • Farm Ancient Civilization Relics and use a Relic Recycler at your base to passively generate Holy Water, Paloxite, and Radiant Gems
  • Save Radiant Gems for Pals you plan to keep long term — gems spent on a Pal you later replace are wasted

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you fly directly to the World Tree in Palworld?

Yes, you can fly there at any time, but the terminal at the entrance will not react until you have completed the full Panthalus quest chain and have Panthalus in your active party. Flying there early does nothing useful.

What level should I be before entering the World Tree?

Aim for Level 65 or higher, ideally close to the Level 80 cap. Pals inside the World Tree are above Level 70, and the final boss is Level 80. Going in too early means you will get wiped out almost immediately.

Do you need to catch Panthalus to unlock the World Tree?

Yes. You must catch Panthalus, not just defeat it. The World Tree terminal checks that Panthalus is in your active party. If you accidentally kill it during the fight, the encounter resets and you need to summon it again.

How many Key Spheres do you need for the World Tree final door?

You need all eight Key Spheres. Each one comes from defeating a different Tower Boss across Palpagos, Feybreak, and Sunreach. If you are missing any, go back and clear those towers before trying to open the final door.

Can you harvest Paloxite and Mythical Wood without Holy Water?

No. These materials vanish as you approach if you have not applied World Tree Holy Water to yourself and your active Pal first. Get Holy Water from Teafant Springs in the World Tree zone, or have a Pal with a World Tree Passive in your active party to bypass the mechanic.

What is the fastest way to farm Radiant Gems in the World Tree?

Run Pal Expeditions in the World Tree zone or sweep the biomes manually while farming other materials. You can also collect Ancient Civilization Relics and run them through an Ancient Relic Recycler at your base, which generates Radiant Gems passively.

Can you get Astralym as a Pal?

No. Astralym is the final boss and is completely unobtainable as a catchable Pal. Save your Pal Spheres for other targets in the World Tree.
