Palworld 1.0 best stats to level up first is one of the most important decisions you make early in the game. You only get one Status Point per level, and the max level cap is 80. That means you have around 79 points total to spend across five stats. Every point matters. Spend them wrong and the early game becomes painful very fast.
This guide covers the right priority order, what each stat actually does, and which ones you should skip completely. No filler. Just the choices that make your run smoother from day one.
Palworld 1.0 is available on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation. You can also learn more about the game directly on Pocketpair’s official site.
TL;DR — Best Stats Priority in Palworld 1.0
- Weight — Level this first. Carry more ore and resources without constant trips home.
- Stamina — Level this second. Sprint, climb, glide, and dodge without running out of breath.
- Health — Level this third. More HP means you survive tough boss hits and big falls.
- Attack — Optional. Only useful if you fight on the front line regularly.
- Work Speed — Skip. Your Pals handle crafting. This stat is a waste of points.
- Defense — Cannot be leveled with stat points. Use better armor instead.
How Stat Points Work in Palworld 1.0
Every time your character levels up, you earn one Status Point. You can spend it on any of the five available stats: Health, Stamina, Attack, Weight, or Work Speed. Defense cannot be raised through stat points at all. It only goes up with better armor and accessories.
The level cap in Palworld 1.0 is 80. That gives you roughly 79 points to work with across your entire run. Each stat also has a hard cap of 50 invested points, so you can max out one stat and still have points left for two or three others. Spreading smartly across two or three stats is almost always better than dumping everything into one.
The good news is that nothing here is permanent. Once you reach level 43, you can craft Memory Wiping Medicine at the Electric Medicine Workbench. It resets all your spent points so you can reallocate them freely. We will cover that more at the end of this guide.
Best Stat to Level First in Palworld 1.0: Weight
Weight controls how much you can carry before you get slowed down and encumbered. It is the single most impactful stat in the early game, and most veteran players agree it should be your first priority.
Here is why. When you go out mining ore, wood, or stone, your inventory fills up fast. Running low on carry capacity means more back-and-forth trips to your base. That kills your momentum and wastes a lot of time. With enough Weight early on, you can clear a full ore vein, loot a chest, and haul everything home in one run.
The target for early game is around 600 to 800 carry weight. That covers most resource-gathering needs without burning too many points. Aim for that range within your first 20 levels, then stop and let your other stats catch up.
Also keep in mind that certain Pals can boost your carry capacity when they follow you. Pals like Cattiva and Kingpaca add bonus weight. But stat points still give the most reliable and consistent boost, especially early on when you do not have those Pals yet.
Second Best Stat: Stamina
Stamina covers everything movement-related. Sprinting, climbing, gliding, swimming, dodging, and even swinging tools all drain your Stamina bar. When it hits zero, you stop doing all of those things until it recovers.
Running low on Stamina in the middle of a boss fight is genuinely dangerous. You cannot dodge attacks. You cannot reposition. You just stand there and take hits. Investing a few points into Stamina early fixes this completely.
Stamina also makes exploration much better. You can reach steep cliffsides, climb over walls, glide longer distances between biomes, and move between areas without stopping every 30 seconds to catch your breath. It is the mobility stat, and mobility matters a lot in a world as large as Palworld’s.
Some players prefer to level Stamina before Weight. That is a valid choice too. The important thing is that both of these land in your build within the first 20 to 30 levels. After that, alternate between them and Health based on what you are struggling with.

Third Priority: Health
Health determines how many hits you can take before dying and dropping your inventory. Each point in Health adds 100 to your maximum HP, which is a solid chunk at any stage of the game.
You do not need to rush Health in the very early game. Most weak enemies do not deal enough damage to one-shot you, and Pals handle the bulk of combat anyway. However, as you push into harder dungeons, alpha encounters, and the new boss fights in areas like Sunreach Island, raw HP becomes a real lifeline. A stray area-of-effect attack from a boss can wipe you out if your HP is too low.
Health pairs well with good armor and shields. Since Defense cannot be raised with stat points, your armor does all the damage reduction work. Stack Health here, and let your gear handle the rest of your survivability.
Start investing in Health seriously around levels 20 to 40. By that point, your Weight and Stamina should feel comfortable, and boss difficulty is starting to ramp up. You want a buffer of at least 1,000 to 1,500 HP before you tackle the tougher endgame encounters.

What About Attack?
Attack increases your personal damage output. But here is the thing: each point only gives you about 2 extra damage. That is a very small return on a very limited resource.
Crafting a better gun or weapon does far more damage than 20 points sunk into Attack ever could. Your Pals also deal the majority of damage in most fights, especially mid to late game. The stat becomes more useful if you are a player who fights on the front line constantly with melee or close-range weapons. But for most builds, it is a low-priority pick.
If you want to explore Attack later when you have spare points after maxing Weight and Stamina, that is fine. Just do not rush it at the cost of utility stats early on.

Stats You Should Skip or Ignore
Work Speed
Work Speed reduces your crafting and gathering times when you do things manually. It sounds useful at first. But this is a Pal game. By the mid-game, your base will have multiple Pals assigned to every workbench, and they will handle everything at speeds far beyond what your character ever could.
The entire point of building a base is automation. Putting stat points into Work Speed goes against how the game is designed. Do not touch it. Let your Pals do the crafting. Want help with that? See our guide on how to assign Pals to work in Palworld.
Defense
Defense is a stat you cannot raise through the stat menu at all. There is no button for it. Your defense rating comes entirely from the armor you wear and certain Pal passive skills. Focus on crafting and upgrading your armor regularly instead of looking for a way to invest stat points here.

Recommended Stat Allocation by Level Range
Here is a simple roadmap to follow as you progress through Palworld 1.0.
Levels 1 to 20 — Early Game
- Put most points into Weight until you hit 600 to 800 carry capacity.
- Drop a few points into Stamina so climbing and gliding feel smooth.
- Ignore everything else for now.
Levels 20 to 40 — Mid Game
- Start alternating between Stamina and Health.
- Aim for at least 1,000 HP before you take on harder bosses.
- Add more Weight if your resource runs still feel sluggish.
Levels 40 to 80 — Late Game
- Fill out remaining gaps in Health, Stamina, and Weight based on what you need.
- Consider adding a few Attack points if you are fighting bosses up close.
- Work Speed is still not worth it even here.

How to Respec Stats in Palworld 1.0
Stat choices are not locked forever. You can reset all of your spent stat points using an item called Memory Wiping Medicine. Once you drink it, every point is refunded and you can spend them again from scratch.
Here is what you need to craft it:
- Reach Technology Level 43 to unlock the Electric Medicine Workbench
- Build the Electric Medicine Workbench and power it with a Power Generator
- Assign a Pal with Medicine Production work suitability to the bench
- Gather the crafting materials: 99 Beautiful Flowers, 50 Horns, 50 Bones, and 50 Aquatic Pal Fluids
The crafting time is long, so have a good Medicine Production Pal assigned and do not let it wander off. Once done, just use the medicine from your inventory and your stat points come back immediately. You can craft it as many times as you want, so there is no permanent commitment to any build in this game.
Beautiful Flowers can be tricky to farm in bulk. Plan ahead and collect them whenever you explore. You will also want to stock up on other materials early. Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Stats
- Do not ignore Pals for combat. Your own Attack and Defense stats matter far less than which Pals you bring into battle. Invest in strong Pals and their passive skills. See our Palworld Ancient Technology Points guide to unlock powerful upgrades.
- Use armor to cover Defense gaps. Craft and upgrade armor regularly. It does more for your survivability than any stat point allocation.
- Check server settings. Custom world options can change how much each stat matters. If you lowered item weight, you need less Weight investment. If you raised enemy damage, Health becomes more critical.
- Bank points if you are unsure. You do not have to spend points immediately. You can save them and spend in bulk when you decide what you need.
- Use Mimog Effigy to boost capture strength. Catching stronger Pals is separate from stat points. See our Mimog Effigy guide for details.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best stat to level first in Palworld 1.0?
