Passive Skills in Palworld 1.0 received a massive expansion with the full launch update. The patch added new standard passives for combat, base work, and breeding — plus a brand new Rainbow tier and a brand new World Tree tier that comes with big bonuses and real drawbacks. This guide covers every new passive skill added in 1.0 and what each one actually does.
- Palworld 1.0 added over 20 new passive skills across multiple tiers
- Standard passives include new combat, farming, breeding, and exploration options
- Rainbow tier passives are the best clean bonuses with no downsides
- World Tree tier is the most powerful but every single one comes with a penalty
- World Tree passives also stop World Tree resources from vanishing when you approach them
- You cannot use Surgery Chips to graft World Tree passives — you have to catch or breed for them
- Babysitter is the top breeding passive; God of Destruction and Demon’s Hand are the top combat and work passives

How Passive Skills Work in Palworld
Every Pal in Palworld can have up to four passive skills. These are permanent traits that are randomly assigned when a Pal spawns or hatches. Passives affect a Pal’s stats, work output, combat performance, or behavior — and some apply bonuses to the player directly.
Passives are split into tiers. Higher tiers mean stronger effects. You can pass passives down through Breeding, which is the main way to build a Pal with the exact traits you want. You can also use the Essence Condenser to fine-tune passives on Pals you already have. Some passives can be sold by merchants as well.
Not all passives are positive. Some come with built-in debuffs attached to their bonus. The new World Tree tier is the clearest example of this — every single one of them gives a powerful buff and a meaningful penalty at the same time.
If you want to understand the broader endgame system these passives tie into, our World Tree unlock guide covers every step to reach that zone. You should also check our best start guide for Palworld 1.0 if you are still building up your early game foundation before hunting for these skills.
All New Standard Passive Skills in Palworld 1.0
These passives can drop on Pals anywhere in the game through normal captures and breeding. They are spread across Tier 1 and Tier 2+ and offer clean bonuses with no downsides.
Night Owl (Tier 1)
Makes the Pal nocturnal. It stays awake and works through the night but sleeps during the day. This is a niche passive, useful if you play during late-game hours or want to keep base productivity going after the sun goes down without waking day workers.
Farmhand (Tier 2+)
Increases a Pal’s Farming work suitability by +1 level. Good for ranch and crop-focused bases where you want a higher farming tier without waiting to find a naturally strong farming Pal.
Healing Coach (Tier 2+)
Improves the player’s auto health regeneration rate by +5%. This is a passive that benefits you directly rather than the Pal itself. Pair with a combat Pal you keep active during exploration runs to get consistent extra regen in the field.
Reload Master (Tier 2+)
Increases reload speed by 4%. A small but steady combat edge, especially in longer fights or when cycling between heavy weapons. Stacks well if multiple party Pals carry it.
Wellness Watcher (Tier 2+)
Reduces stamina consumption by 5%. Useful for exploration Pals and flying mounts to squeeze more distance out of each stamina bar. Works well alongside other exploration-focused passives.
Heavyweight (Tier 2+)
Grants immunity to Knockback effects and increases Defense by 20%. A solid survivability passive for tank builds. Knockback immunity on its own is already valuable in tougher combat situations.
Service Minded (Tier 2+)
Increases item drops by 50%. One of the strongest standard-tier additions for loot farming. Put this on a Pal you keep in your party during combat to dramatically increase the materials you bring home. Check out how our Ancient materials farming guide pairs with this passive to speed up rare drop collection.
Whopper (Tier 2+)
Increases Defense, Water Attack, and Ice Attack by 5%. Think of this as an early-to-mid game stepping stone before you find the stronger Lunker passive. Worth keeping on Water or Ice type combat Pals until you upgrade.

All New Rainbow Tier Passive Skills in Palworld 1.0
Rainbow tier passives are the best clean bonuses in the game. No drawbacks, just strong effects. These are the ones most players are hunting for through breeding.
Babysitter (Rainbow)
Increases Egg Production and Incubation Speed by 30% for Pals assigned to a Breeding Farm at your base. This is widely considered the best new passive overall. More eggs per cycle means more chances to roll the passive combinations you actually want. If you only chase one Rainbow passive, chase this one first — it speeds up every other breeding project you run after it.
Ranch Master (Rainbow)
Increases a Pal’s Farming work suitability by +2 levels. That is double the bonus of Farmhand and in the Rainbow tier, making it a proper endgame farming passive. Great for bases built around passive resource generation.
Lavish Hospitality (Rainbow)
Increases item drops by 100%. Double the loot from every kill. This is the upgraded version of Service Minded and one of the strongest loot-farm passives in the entire game. Keep a Pal with this in your active party during any combat-heavy farming run.
Lightfooted (Rainbow)
Increases mounted Pal jumps by 1. Useful for reaching hard-to-access areas or navigating complex terrain when riding a flying or jumping mount. Pairs well with high-jump mounts for exploration.
Skymarcher (Rainbow)
Increases mounted Pal jumps by 2. The stronger version of Lightfooted in the same Rainbow tier. If you can get Skymarcher, there is no reason to settle for Lightfooted — the extra jump makes a noticeable difference when exploring the new vertical areas of the map. See our guide on how to remove the Fog of War in Sunreach Island to get the most out of your exploration mounts up there.
Immortality (Rainbow)
Increases Life Steal by 5%, Pal auto health regeneration by 100%, and Attack by 15%. One of the strongest combat passives added in 1.0. The combination of lifesteal, doubled regen, and a meaningful attack buff makes any combat Pal with this significantly harder to kill while also hitting harder.
Heavily Armored (Rainbow)
Grants immunity to Explosion damage. A very specific defensive passive that becomes extremely valuable in certain endgame fights and high-level boss encounters where explosion-type damage can one-shot unprepared teams.
All New World Tree Tier Passive Skills in Palworld 1.0
World Tree passives are in a class of their own. These are the highest-tier passives currently in the game and they only appear on Pals caught in the World Tree region. Every single one of them provides a massive bonus — and every single one also comes with a serious penalty. On top of that, every World Tree passive also prevents World Tree resources from vanishing when you approach them, which makes them extremely valuable for farming Paloxite and Mythical Wood without needing to apply Holy Water constantly.
You cannot graft these onto Pals using Surgery Chips. The only ways to get them are to catch Pals inside the World Tree biome or find Large Ominous Eggs scattered in the area, which have a high chance of producing Pals with World Tree passives. They can also be passed down through breeding once you have one. Note that Yakumo’s Birds of a Feather perk does not work with World Tree passives — you rely entirely on luck and grinding.
Make sure you are properly set up before farming the World Tree. Check our guides on best stats to level up first and how to get Ancient Technology Points to make sure your build can handle the zone.
Demon’s Hand (World Tree)
Work Speed +90%. Penalty: SAN decreases 15% faster.
The single largest Work Speed boost in the game. A 90% boost to work output is enormous — even with the faster SAN drain, the net throughput is still massively positive because Pals simply get so much more done per work cycle. Pair with SAN-management setups at your base. This is the must-have World Tree passive for any production-focused base.
Twin-Edged Holy Blade (World Tree)
Attack +50%. Penalty: Defense -30%.
The highest raw Attack bonus in the game. The trade-off is clear: you hit incredibly hard but you cannot take hits at all. A classic glass cannon setup. Pair with Pals that have high natural Defense or use defensive passives to offset the penalty — or just accept the full glass cannon build and focus on killing things before they can react.
God of Destruction (World Tree)
Attack +40%, Defense +20%. Penalty: Max HP -50%.
The most well-rounded World Tree combat passive. You get solid offense and a defense boost simultaneously, but at the cost of losing half your maximum HP. Positioning and support become essential here. Best used on Pals that can dish out damage quickly before the reduced HP pool becomes a problem.
Sanctified Meat Shield (World Tree)
Defense +50%. Penalty: Attack -30%.
The defensive counterpart to Twin-Edged Holy Blade. A massive Defense boost turns a Pal into an extremely durable tank, but at the cost of damage output. Best suited to Pals whose role is to soak hits and hold aggression rather than deal damage.
Dimensional Leap (World Tree)
Movement Speed +50%. Penalty: Hunger depletion rate increased by 15%.
A 50% movement speed increase on a mounted Pal is genuinely transformative for exploration — especially in the large World Tree biome itself. The hunger penalty is easy to manage once your food stockpile is solid. One of the best exploration passives in the whole game and the hunger cost barely registers in practice. Pair this with our guide on how to reach Sunreach Island to speed up exploration across the new regions.
Hermit Sage (World Tree)
SAN depletion rate -50%. Penalty: Work Speed -20%.
Your Pal’s SAN drains at half the normal speed, letting it work for roughly twice as long before needing rest. The Work Speed penalty is real, but the net throughput gain from dramatically fewer rest cycles makes this worthwhile for jobs that need continuous attention — like assembly lines, smelting, and crafting stations. Best paired with Artisan to offset some of the Work Speed loss.
World Tree Seabed (World Tree)
Hunger depletion rate -50%. Penalty: Max HP -20%.
Your Pal stays fed for twice as long before needing to eat. The HP penalty is the lightest drawback in the entire World Tree tier, making this one of the more forgiving options. Great for Pals that spend long periods working away from food sources or on expedition runs.

How to Get the New Passive Skills
For standard and Rainbow tier passives, the process is the same as always. Catch Pals in the new 1.0 regions — Sunreach and the World Tree — since newly added Pals in those areas can spawn with the new passives. Then use Breeding to pass the traits you want down to offspring. The Essence Condenser can also help you clean up or reinforce passives on Pals you already own.
For World Tree tier passives specifically, you need to be inside the World Tree biome. Catch the high-level Pals there — look for glowing Pals in the area since they have a higher chance of carrying a World Tree passive. You can also collect Large Ominous Eggs scattered around the zone, which give a strong chance of hatching a Pal with one of these traits.
Once you have a Pal with a World Tree passive, you can breed it to pass the skill on to offspring. Yakumo’s Birds of a Feather perk does not apply here, so there are no shortcuts — it is straight luck and volume. Run as many catches and eggs as you can until you land the passive you want.
To farm efficiently inside the World Tree, make sure you have the right gear and materials. Our guides on how to get Soralite and Soralite Ingot and how to make Cryogenic Coolant will help you craft the top-tier gear you need for those high-level encounters. You can also check how to get Skill Fruits to give your Pals the right active moves to pair with these new passives.
Which New Passive Skills Are Best
It depends on what you are trying to do, but here are the standout picks.
Best for breeding: Babysitter. Get this first. More eggs mean faster access to every other passive you want.
Best for base work: Demon’s Hand. A 90% Work Speed boost is the most impactful single passive you can put on a base worker. Hermit Sage pairs well alongside it by reducing SAN drain on the same Pal or a neighbor.
Best for loot farming: Lavish Hospitality. Double item drops on every kill. Run this on a combat Pal during any material farming session.
Best for combat glass cannon: Twin-Edged Holy Blade or God of Destruction. Twin-Edged gives the highest Attack bonus. God of Destruction is more balanced if you want both offense and defense in one package despite the HP penalty.
Best for exploration: Dimensional Leap. The 50% Movement Speed bonus on a mounted Pal is transformative across the new regions. Skymarcher adds jump count on top if you pair two mounts together.
Best tank passive: Sanctified Meat Shield. A 50% Defense boost turns any Pal into a wall. The Attack drop hurts, but a dedicated tank does not need damage output.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can you breed World Tree passive skills onto any Pal?
Yes. Once you have a Pal with a World Tree passive, you can pass it down through breeding to offspring of any species. The inheritance is random, so you need multiple breeding attempts to lock in the trait you want.
Can you use Surgery Chips to add World Tree passives?
No. Surgery Chips at the Pal Surgery Table do not work on World Tree tier passives. You can only get them by catching World Tree region Pals, hatching Large Ominous Eggs found in the area, or breeding from a Pal that already has the passive.
Do World Tree passives help with resource farming?
Yes, significantly. Every World Tree passive also prevents Paloxite, Mythical Wood, and other World Tree resources from vanishing when you approach them. Having a Pal with any World Tree passive in your active party removes the need to constantly use Holy Water while farming.
Does Yakumo’s Birds of a Feather work with World Tree passives?
No. Yakumo’s perk does not apply to World Tree tier passives. You cannot use it as a shortcut to increase your odds. Catching and breeding are the only methods.
What is the best World Tree passive for a base worker?
Demon’s Hand. The 90% Work Speed bonus is the largest work output boost in the game and the faster SAN drain is manageable with good base setup. Hermit Sage is a strong secondary option if SAN management is a bottleneck at your base.
Are Rainbow passives worth chasing before World Tree passives?
Yes, especially Babysitter. Getting Babysitter early dramatically speeds up your entire breeding pipeline, which makes it much easier to eventually land World Tree passives through volume. Immortality and Lavish Hospitality are also strong pickups that do not require you to reach the World Tree at all.
