How to Start the Apprentice Healer Quest in Phantom Blade Zero
You first meet Yu’er early in Weeping Creek Valley, just before the waterfall. She is a young healer trying to look after the injured around her. After your first conversation with her, she asks Soul to track down a Flesh Lily for her father. That is a separate quest — but once you have dealt with the Flesh Lily and defeated Peng Meng, the Axemaster, Yu’er will move to the Outpost Bell and offer a second quest.
Talk to her and choose the Gathering Herbs dialogue option. She will hand you her Yu’er’s Medicinal Herb Recipe book and officially start the Apprentice Healer tale quest. She needs three ingredients to make medicine for the wounded: a Blood-Stopper Vine, a Congealeaf, and a Blemish Goldweed.
If you have not completed the Flesh Lily quest yet, read our guide on where to find the Flesh Lily for Yu’er first.
Important Warning: Do Not Wait Too Long
This quest has a time-sensitive cutoff point. You must complete the Apprentice Healer quest before you defeat Jing Ye, the Outlaw in the Crimson Forest. If you push into Crimson Forest too fast and beat that boss before collecting the herbs and turning them in, the quest will fail and the reward will be lost.
Two of the three herbs are in the Creek Valley Plains area, which only opens after defeating The Hunt and completing the Deep in the Valley quest. So there is a natural progression here — you need to unlock that area before you can finish this quest. Just make sure you do it all before moving too far into Crimson Forest.
All Three Herb Locations in Phantom Blade Zero

Herb 1: Blood-Stopper Vine Location
The Blood-Stopper Vine is the most straightforward of the three to find. Head to the Axemaster’s Holding Cell Bell in Weeping Creek Valley. From there, turn around and drop down into the river near the bridge. The Blood-Stopper Vine is sitting at the end of the river, to the east of the bell. It glows like most collectible items in the game, so it is easy to spot once you are in the right area.
This one is accessible fairly early. You do not need any special weapon or key to reach it.
Herb 2: Congealeaf Location
The Congealeaf is in the Creek Valley Plains — the large optional area that opens up after you defeat The Hunt and complete the Deep in the Valley quest. You will need the Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Gate Key to unlock the gate into the Plains. Once inside, follow the main path through the area until you get behind some houses. The Congealeaf is tucked away behind the houses along the path that runs through the Plains. Cross the bridge patrolled by two guards and continue until you spot it.
If you are still unlocking this area, our guides on the Hunter’s Chain Sickle and the Rusted Loong Key will help you make the most of Creek Valley Plains once you are inside.
Herb 3: Blemish Goldweed Location
The Blemish Goldweed is the furthest herb to find. It is located in the Creek Valley Plains near the Weeping Creek Long Pillar. From the Long Pillar Overlook Bell, head into the caves to the northeast. Use the Rusted Loong Key to open the locked door in that area. Continue through until you reach the Long Pillar. The Blemish Goldweed is sitting just beyond the pillar as you walk past it. You will see it glowing on the ground — pick it up before heading back.
Note: the Long Pillar here is one of the game’s dragon pillars linked to the Bloodline Awakening quest chain. There is a tough optional boss encounter connected to it, but you do not need to fight anything to grab the herb itself.

How to Complete the Apprentice Healer Quest
Once you have all three herbs in your inventory, fast travel back to the Outpost Bell in Weeping Creek Valley. Talk to Yu’er and hand over the Blood-Stopper Vine, Congealeaf, and Blemish Goldweed. She will thank Soul and complete the medicine she has been working on.
As a reward, she gives you the Medicine Case accessory. This is a missable reward — you cannot go back and earn it if you let the quest fail. So make sure you finish Apprentice Healer before heading deep into Crimson Forest.
Yu’er Quest Order in Phantom Blade Zero
If you want to follow Yu’er’s full storyline and unlock the A Healer’s Legacy trophy or achievement, here is the correct order to tackle her quests:
- Flesh Lily — Accept this early and complete it after reaching the Sha-Chi Tower. Defeat Hua, Deadly Betrothed and collect the Twin Flesh Lilies. Give one to Yu’er at the Outpost Bell.
- Apprentice Healer — Accept this after defeating Peng Meng. Collect all three herbs across Weeping Creek Valley and return to Yu’er. Must be done before defeating Jing Ye, the Outlaw.
- A Healer’s Mercy — This continues in Crimson Forest at the Thieves’ Camp Bell. Yu’er moves there and asks for help saving wounded thieves. Completing this earns you the Calming Gourd item.
Miss any of these in order and the trophy chain breaks. If you want to see the full chapter breakdown, our all chapter list guide gives you a clear view of the game’s structure and when each region becomes available.
Quick Tips for the Apprentice Healer Quest
- Accept the quest from Yu’er right after beating Peng Meng. Do not delay.
- The Blood-Stopper Vine is the only herb you can grab early. The other two need Creek Valley Plains to be unlocked.
- Unlock Creek Valley Plains by finishing the Deep in the Valley quest and using the Sha-Chi Tower Base Camp Gate Key.
- Bring the Rusted Loong Key when exploring Creek Valley Plains — you will need it for the Blemish Goldweed area.
- Do everything in Weeping Creek Valley’s optional areas before jumping into Crimson Forest. That is where the quest locks out.
