Before jumping into the step-by-step guide, here’s what to expect from this chapter.

  • Sub-Chapters: Infiltration, The Carnival, Rats in a Barrel, On the Run, Inferno
  • Collectibles: 1 Blade (Falchion), 2 Artefacts (Serenissima Banner, Bombasin Mask), 2 Charms (Beads #1, Bracelet #1), 5 Resonance Points
  • New Tools Unlocked: Aerial Takedown, Grapnel
  • New Feature Unlocked: Skill Tree (first skill point)
  • Boss Fight: Faro
  • Missable: Resonance Points only — the rest can be grabbed later via chapter select

The Story Setup – What Happened Before

At the end of Chapter 1, Faro called a crew meeting on the main deck. The plan: sail to a mysterious island using a key that’s being held in a rival’s arsenal. Sophia is given the job of getting inside the city, opening the canal gates for the rest of the crew, and securing the key. Leni comes along as her partner. The chapter picks up with the two of them arriving by boat near the city walls.

Sub-Chapter 1 – Infiltration (Opening the Canal Gates)

Sub Chapter 1–Infiltration Opening the Canal Gates
Sub Chapter 1–Infiltration Opening the Canal Gates

Dock Arrival and Rooftop Run

The chapter opens with Sophia and Leni docking quietly near the city. Continue forward past the crew’s arriving boats and look for a ladder on the wall ahead. Climb up to the rooftop. From here you need to jump across the rooftops toward the canal gates. The path is mostly obvious — just keep moving forward and use the jumps and ledges to stay on the rooftops.

First Combat Encounter – Aerial Takedown

When you drop into a courtyard below the rooftops, you’ll run into a group of guards. This is where the game introduces the Aerial Takedown. Jump from above onto the nearest guard to take him down silently and instantly. Then fight off the remaining soldiers using the combat skills you learned in Chapter 1 — parry, dagger, critical strike.

Open the Canal Gate

After clearing the guards, go into the room they came from. You’ll find the Gate Lifting Mechanism inside — interact with it to open the canal gate and let Faro’s crew through on their boats. Wait for Leni to unlock the gate on the other side, then head through and drop down to the street below.

Up ahead you’ll find a barrel — interact with it to hand over your weapons before entering the carnival. You can’t bring them in, so don’t worry about losing anything. You pick everything back up later.

Sub-Chapter 2 – The Carnival (Following the Cloth)

Into the Carnival

Sophia and Leni blend into a busy carnival. Leni spots a piece of white cloth on the wall ahead — this is your navigation marker. Follow white cloth markers to trace the path to the church. It becomes your guiding thread through the whole sub-chapter. Continue forward through the first market square and keep the church in your sights in the distance.

Artefact 1 – Relic of the Present: Serenissima Banner

After two guards pat you and Leni down at an archway, move through the first square and keep going until you reach a bridge with two guards stationed at it. Before crossing the bridge, turn right toward the docks. The Serenissima Banner artefact is right there on the docks. Pick it up before you cross — once you go over the bridge the path moves on.

Past the Bridge and Through the Backstreets

Cross the bridge and follow the path until you hit a commotion — guards are demanding everyone remove their masks. Leni knows a side route. Follow her. You’ll duck through a fence into a backyard with two pigs. Once through the gap, immediately turn left before going anywhere else.

Charm 1 – Beads #1

Right after squeezing through the gap (the one by the pigs), turn left the moment you’re through. There’s a small wooden box in a building right there. The Beads #1 Charm is inside. It’s very easy to walk straight past if you don’t check left immediately.

Artefact 2 – Relic of the Present: Bombasin Mask

From the Beads charm location, continue forward until you reach the big carnival square — you’ll hear fire jugglers performing on a stage in front of the church gates. Go to the right corner of this square. There’s a mask lying on the floor. That’s the Bombasin Mask artefact. Grab it before interacting with anything on the stage.

Optional: Theater Enthusiast Trophy/Achievement

Behind the fire juggler stage there’s a puppet show. If you want the Theater Enthusiast trophy or achievement, stand in front of the puppet show and just wait for about a minute. It unlocks automatically. This is completely optional and doesn’t affect progression.

Blade 2 – Falchion (and Grapnel Unlock)

Follow the path left of the church gates and squeeze through another gap in the fence. You’ll find a boat by the water — interact with it to pick your weapons back up. You automatically receive Blade 2: Falchion here as a story reward. You also unlock the Grapnel at this point, which is a grappling hook you use to climb walls and swing across gaps. This tool is central to everything that follows, so pay attention to the prompt that shows you how to use it.

If you pre-ordered the game with the Heritage Pack DLC, you also get the Hero’s Blade weapon here as a bonus — though it isn’t required for any trophies or achievements.

Sub-Chapter 3 – Rats in a Barrel (Rooftop Combat)

Reaching the Church Roof

Now that you have the Grapnel, use it to climb up the building directly ahead. Cross over to the right and use the Grapnel again to climb up to the church roof. From the top, scan the distance for glowing lights. When you spot them, pull out your mirror and aim at the signal. Signal your crew twice and watch the warehouse explosion. Use the Grapnel to descend back down.

As you’re about to return to street level, you overhear soldiers talking — they knew the plan all along. It’s a trap. Sophia has to move fast.

Rooftop Escape and Archer Encounters

Turn right and look for a hanging hook at the edge of the roof. Swing across to the next roof using your Grapnel. Continue across the rooftops — it’s a mix of jumping, shimmying, and swinging. Eventually you’ll hit a zipline that drops you near the river.

An Archer pins you down from a ledge. Use the Grapnel to pull the archer off the ledge — this is the game teaching you a new combat use for the tool. After pulling him off, shimmy across the gap where he was standing.

Charm 2 – Bracelet #1

Right after shimmying across the gap where the first archer was, immediately turn left. There’s a small box on this roof. The Bracelet #1 Charm is inside. Don’t keep moving forward before you grab it — it’s missable if you rush ahead.

From the ledge here, you can see two more Archers posted on a roof ahead. Jump across and use your Grapnel to pull both of them off before they pin you down. Continue forward onto a balcony, then follow the rooftops to your right.

Helping Your Crew at the Arsenal

Drop into the house with the broken roof ahead and take out the enemy inside quickly. Follow the path through the building until you reach the wall around the arsenal — you can already see Faro’s crew fighting soldiers below. Turn left and sprint until you enter a building. Drop down and go through the door into the fight. Help your crew take out the soldiers. Keep fighting until a cutscene triggers.

Sub-Chapter 4 – On the Run (Finding the Island Key)

Resonance Points and the Skill Tree

A cutscene forces Sophia away from her crew. She pushes on alone toward the chest holding the Island Key. Defeat the two enemies that appear immediately after the cutscene. The second enemy, once beaten, will tell you the chest is being loaded onto a ship. Climb the ladder nearby and use the zipline to reach the dock where the chest is being held.

Clear the enemies around the chest, then open it. This triggers a short cutscene and gives you 5 Resonance Points — which also unlocks the Skill Tree for the first time. You’ll be prompted to spend your points right away. There are five skills available. Choose wisely. If you’re not sure what to pick, check out the best skills to unlock first before spending your points.

These 5 Resonance Points are an automatic story reward and do not carry over if you replay the chapter later — they’re the only truly missable items in this chapter.

Escaping the Docks

After picking your skill, more enemies rush in. Take them down. Once you defeat the Brute among them, Archers start firing from a distance. Don’t try to fight them — just run. Sprint forward, duck past obstacles, and climb the ladder you find ahead. Keep moving until a cutscene plays showing Sophia escaping back toward the Den with Leni.

Sub-Chapter 5 – Inferno (The Den is Burning)

Reaching the Book

Sophia and Leni arrive at the Den — but soldiers are already there and the whole place is on fire. Before leaving, Sophia needs to grab her book. Secure it quickly, then use the trapdoor in the floor to escape through a tunnel under the buildings. Follow the tunnel path forward.

Escaping the Burning Den

Climb up the ladder at the end of the tunnel and you’ll see the entire Den in flames above you. Leni is calling from somewhere ahead. Run toward the sound — but the bridge ahead gets blown out before you can cross. Turn right and jump to the platform to continue. You’ll hit a burning area with three enemies waiting. Take them all out before moving forward.

Keep following the burning path. You’ll jump into another burning building and face more enemies inside. Fight through them and climb the ledge once the path clears. Keep going forward to trigger another cutscene.

Boss Fight–Faro
Boss Fight–Faro

Boss Fight – Faro

Faro ambushes Sophia. He accuses her of being a traitor — the mole who tipped off the soldiers — and a fight breaks out between them. This is the first real boss encounter in the game.

Faro is faster than any enemy you’ve faced so far. Here’s what to know going in.

  • Watch for Yellow Attacks. These are the ones you must parry — they can’t be blocked normally. Time your parry right at the moment of impact.
  • Use Critical Strikes. After a successful parry and dagger follow-up, always land the critical strike. It’s the fastest way to reduce his health.
  • Don’t trade hits. Faro hits hard. You want to be reactive and punish him after he commits to an attack, not try to out-aggress him.
  • Stay mobile. He doesn’t give you much breathing room. Keep moving between exchanges to reset your position.

It’s not an especially long fight once you get the parry rhythm down. Defeat Faro to trigger the final cutscene. Sophia escapes through the burning wreckage, uses her Grapnel to cross a gap, climbs a ledge, and then slides down a zipline to Leni’s waiting boat. Chapter 2 is done. New Tools and Features Introduced in Chapter 2

Aerial Takedown

This is introduced in the first courtyard of Sub-Chapter 1. Jump from a higher position onto an enemy below to take them down in one hit, instantly and silently. It’s most useful at the start of fights where you have the high ground — which the game sets up often. Look for elevated positions at the start of any encounter.

Grapnel

You unlock this permanently when you collect your weapons from the boat in the carnival section. The Grapnel is used in three ways: climbing up to hard-to-reach surfaces, swinging across gaps on hanging hooks, and pulling enemies off ledges during combat. You’ll use it constantly from here. Learning to switch between all three uses quickly is a big part of the later chapters. For more on how Chapter 3 builds on this, see our Chapter 3 platform guide.

Skill Tree

Opening the chest in Sub-Chapter 4 unlocks the Skill Tree and gives you your first 5 Resonance Points to spend. You choose from five starting options. The game doesn’t explain the tree in huge depth right here, so don’t rush. Think about your playstyle — if you prefer aggressive combat, pick something that enhances your attack chain. If you want more survivability, go for a defensive upgrade. See the best skills to unlock first for a recommended path.

Tips for Getting Through Chapter 2

  • Grab the Serenissima Banner before crossing the bridge. It’s the one collectible players miss most in this chapter. Check the docks on your right before going over.
  • Always turn left after crossing a gap or shimmying. Two of the charms in this chapter are in small boxes just to the left of where you land after crossing. Make it a habit.
  • Use the Grapnel on archers before they become a problem. Don’t try to walk through arrow fire — pull them off their perches first with the Grapnel.
  • Don’t rush the Faro fight. He’s meant to feel like a real threat. Slow down, watch his yellow attacks, and wait for the parry window. Panic-attacking him will get you killed quickly.
  • Don’t spend your Resonance Points without thinking. You only get 5 here and the next batch may be a while coming. Choose a skill that suits how you’ve been playing.

You can get the game on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, or Xbox Series X|S. Find more at the official Focus Entertainment page.

What Comes Next – Chapter 3 Preview

After Chapter 2 ends, Sophia and Leni are on the run with the book and no island key. Chapter 3, Those Before Us, shifts the setting dramatically. The game starts exploring its dual timeline mechanic more heavily here and introduces Sophia’s visions of the ancient Minoan world. If you’re curious about how that storytelling device works, the dual timeline mechanics guide explains it well. You’ll also want to know whether to lean into combat or stealth in the chapters ahead, since both are real options from Chapter 3 onward.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many collectibles are in Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy Chapter 2?

Chapter 2 Felons has 10 collectibles total. That breaks down into 1 Blade (Falchion, automatic story unlock), 2 Artefacts (Serenissima Banner and Bombasin Mask), 2 Charms (Beads #1 and Bracelet #1), and 5 Resonance Points. The Resonance Points are automatic and tied to the chest cutscene in Sub-Chapter 4. Everything except the Resonance Points can be picked up via chapter select if you miss them.

How do you beat Faro in Chapter 2 of Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy?

The key to beating Faro is reading his yellow attacks and parrying them at exactly the right moment — just as the hit connects, not before. Once he’s stunned, immediately follow up with your dagger and then land a critical strike. Repeat this cycle. Don’t try to brawl with him — he’s faster and hits harder than anything you’ve faced so far. Stay mobile between exchanges and prioritise parrying over attacking.

When does the Skill Tree unlock in Resonance A Plague Tale Legacy?

The Skill Tree unlocks in Chapter 2 Felons during Sub-Chapter 4 On the Run. When Sophia opens the chest holding the Island Key, she earns 5 Resonance Points and the game brings up the Skill Tree for the first time. You can spend these points immediately or keep moving and spend them later — the choice is yours. These 5 Resonance Points are the only collectibles in Chapter 2 that do not carry over via chapter select.

Do you need to play previous A Plague Tale games before Resonance?

No. Resonance is a prequel set before the events of A Plague Tale: Innocence and Requiem, so it works as a completely standalone experience. New players can jump straight in without missing story context. If you want to understand how it all connects, see our guide on whether you need to play previous Plague Tale games.
