All 7 Martial Art Paths Explained

Each Martial Art Path groups two weapons with shared synergy. Choosing weapons from the same path means they share Internal Arts compatibility and complementary mechanics:

  • Bellstrike – Splendor: High mobility melee DPS with charged attacks. Best for single-target boss damage. Weapons: Nameless Sword + Nameless Spear.
  • Bellstrike – Umbra: Bleed-focused melee with wound mechanics. Inflicts bleeding effects that drain enemy HP. Weapons: Strategic Sword + Heavenquaker Spear.
  • Silkbind – Deluge: Pure healing and support. Buffs allies, heals, and enables revivals. Weapons: Panacea Fan + Soulshade Umbrella.
  • Silkbind – Jade: Ranged DPS with airborne combos. High skill ceiling; best for 1v1 duels. Weapons: Inkwell Fan + Vernal Umbrella.
  • Bamboocut – Wind: Aggressive close-range DPS with consecutive attack chains. High mobility, no survivability. Weapons: Infernal Twinblades + Mortal Rope Dart.
  • Stonesplit – Might: Tank spec with damage reduction, shields, and crowd control. Weapons: Stormbreaker Spear + Thundercry Blade.
  • Bamboocut – Dust (New — 1.4 Hexi patch, March 6, 2026): Highly mobile AoE path. Swiftness and long AoE range excel in crowded battles, Guild Wars, and group content. Weapons: Everspring Umbrella + Unfettered Rope Dart.

How to Unlock Weapon Martial Arts in Where Winds Meet

How to Unlock Weapon Martial Arts in Where Winds Meet

Most martial arts require either sneaky Skill Theft from hidden masters or pledging to a Sect for instant access — automatic unlocks handle the two basics (Nameless Sword and Nameless Spear) early on. You can also find unlock methods for any weapon via Main Menu → Develop → Martial Arts, then select “Obtain” on the weapon you want — the map will mark the exact location automatically.

Skill Theft is the faster method and does not tie you to any faction. To steal a martial art, infiltrate a Sanctum, locate the master, and press the observe button when the gold ring appears to fill the progress bar. Do this enough times and you learn all the skills. Rules for every Sanctum:

  • You must not be spotted — getting seen resets your progress
  • Some Sanctum entrances require a Dragon Key (see below)
  • Use Wind Sense constantly to see enemy locations through walls

Essential Mystic Arts to unlock before attempting Sanctums:

  • Veil of Stillness — Lets you crouch and stay hidden. Unlock at Peace Bell Tower in southwest Qinghe at Level 8. Without this, guards spot you easily.
  • Touch of Death — Silent takedown tool. Complete “Echoes of Old Battles” at Northern Vow Ruins in southeast Qinghe (light two flame contraptions, solve underground puzzles — gold chest reward).
  • Wind Sense — Shows enemy locations through walls. Use constantly during infiltrations.

How to get Dragon Keys: Dragon Keys unlock certain Sanctum entrances. Obtain them by: reaching Solo Mode level 2, completing the “Skill Theft: Unearned Lesson” quest, or clearing the Bloomveil Monastery, Gourmand’s Grove, or Tiger Fort Outposts for the first time. Always carry Dragon Keys before attempting Sanctums.

Method 2: Sect Joins

Joining a Sect instantly grants its associated martial art along with cosmetic rewards. You can leave any Sect anytime via the Perception Forest (other players will attempt to kill you for bonus rewards during the leaving process), then immediately join any other Sect except the one you just left. You keep all martial arts and cosmetics earned from a Sect after leaving.

Qi Sheng First Oddity — Free Early Pick

Submit your first Oddity to Qi Sheng for a free pick from: Panacea Fan, Thundercry Blade, Infernal Twinblades, or Vernal Umbrella. This is a huge early-game boost. Recommended choice: Panacea Fan — it drastically improves survivability when potions are scarce. Alternative strong picks: Thundercry Blade or Vernal Umbrella, as both are otherwise only unlockable in Kaifeng, which you won’t reach for some time.

All 14 Weapon Martial Arts — Unlock Locations & Methods

Every martial art broken down with all available unlock paths. Prioritize based on your playstyle — mix Nameless basics with Sect steals for versatile early combos.

  • Nameless Sword (Bellstrike – Splendor): Unlocks automatically at the start of the game. Fast slashes and high mobility make it the go-to for quick melee openers. Pairs naturally with Nameless Spear for early-game dominance.
  • Nameless Spear (Bellstrike – Splendor): Auto-unlocks early. Agile thrusts for poking while dodging. Together with Nameless Sword, this baseline duo handles initial content without any extra effort.
  • Panacea Fan (Silkbind – Deluge): Top early healer — area heals, single-target heals, and ally revival essential for co-op and early solo survival. Unlock methods: Qi Sheng’s first Oddity pick (recommended); Skill Theft from Sanctum near Bamboo Abode (travel southeast from Verdant Wilds Wayfarer to the underground cave entrance); or join Silver Needle Sect.
  • Thundercry Blade (Stonesplit – Might): Heavy sword powerhouse with a shield equal to 25% of your max HP and devastating AOE pulls. Slow but extremely powerful. Unlock methods: Qi Sheng’s first Oddity; infiltrate the Well of Heaven Martial Camp in Moonveil Mountains (Kaifeng — head south from Plainfield, past Granary of Plenty, then southeast from North Gracetown Boundary Stone; watch for core disciples on rooftops); or join Well of Heaven Sect.
  • Infernal Twinblades (Bamboocut – Wind): Aggressive frenzy with Karmic Flame meter — when full, grants damage immunity frames and crit rate buffs. Unlock methods: Qi Sheng’s first Oddity; Skill Theft at Midnight Mercy Sanctum (southwest of Battlecrest Slope in Qinghe); or join Midnight Blades Sect.
  • Stormbreaker Spear (Stonesplit – Might): Tank special built around taunting, absorbing hits, and crowd control. Pairs with Thundercry Blade for an immovable tank build. Unlock methods: Skill Theft at Silver Needle Sanctum; or join Raging Tides Sect.
  • Strategic Sword (Bellstrike – Umbra): Bleed-tactical upgrade over Nameless Sword — applies wounds and pops them for burst damage. Watch for the gold ring during master demonstrations. Unlock methods: Skill Theft at Lone Cloud Sanctum near Encircling Lake in southern Qinghe; or join Lone Cloud Sect.
  • Heavenquaker Spear (Bellstrike – Umbra): Sweeping spins and bleed chains. First skill buffs based on successful hits; second skill converts that buff into increased bleed damage — chain both together for maximum effect. Unlock methods: Skill Theft at Raging Tides Sanctum (travel from Wildmane Ranch Boundary Stone, then head southeast); or same Raging Tides Sect. See our Heavenquaker Spear build.
  • Soulshade Umbrella (Silkbind – Deluge): Support star with healing turrets and homing healing projectiles — essential for co-op content. Pairs with Panacea Fan for a full Silkbind – Deluge support build. Unlock methods: Skill Theft via hidden ladder in a Kaifeng village west of Mistveil Forest; or join Hollow Vale Sect.
  • Vernal Umbrella (Silkbind – Jade): Ranged crowd control with 3-second immobilize, auto-attacking aerial turret, and free weapon swapping while airborne. Unlock methods: Qi Sheng’s first Oddity; complete the Temporal Pavilion investigation quest in Kaifeng (gather 5 clues — tabby cat, two pairs of women, warehouse guard — to find the warehouse key and gain access); or join Velvet Shade Sect.
  • Inkwell Fan (Silkbind – Jade): Ranged DPS with wind blasts, air juggles, and the powerful Jadewind Shield barrier. Strongest when paired with Vernal Umbrella for S-tier pure ranged DPS. Unlock methods: Skill Theft at Inkwell Fan Sanctum in Floral Expanse Beyond (northern Qinghe — stealth required inside despite peaceful outer area); or join Silver Needle Sect.
  • Mortal Rope Dart (Bamboocut – Wind): Pulls enemies to you, flings you at bosses, and summons rats via Token of Gratitude resource for extra DPS. The most complex unlock in the game. Unlock methods: Skill Theft at Nine Mortal Ways Hall in Kaifeng (left side of South Gate Avenue — craft a disguise via Wuyan at Lin’s Cosmetics, bypass the guard); or join Nine Mortal Ways Sect. See our full Mortal Rope Dart unlock guide.
  • Everspring Umbrella (Bamboocut – Dust — NEW, 1.4 Hexi patch): An AoE umbrella built for chaos and crowded battlefields. Core skills include Scarlet Spin into Flower Burial, Dreamwrought Bubbles (Phantom Umbrella for repositioning), and Cyclone Waltz (groups enemies while letting you reposition). Ideal for Guild Wars and group content. Pairs with Unfettered Rope Dart. Unlock methods: Skill Theft at South Imperial Garden in Kaifeng (reach the top floor of the east tower — if you have the Kaifeng Lightness Skill, use the east tower shortcut to bypass ground floor guards; observe master at the bookshelf to steal); or join Hollow Vale Sect.
  • Unfettered Rope Dart (Bamboocut – Dust — NEW, 1.4 Hexi patch): Built for fast, aggressive AoE farming and chaos. Enters Soulbound state via Soul Sweep to inflict Soul Loss/Soulbreak, then detonates with Burn and Bury for high burst. Dart Song Fill the Wild (Charging Stance) scales with Tokens of Gratitude. Inflicting Soulbreak on a boss and then activating Breath-hold deals 30% bonus damage. Pairs with Everspring Umbrella. Unlock methods: Skill Theft at Nine Mortal Ways Sect headquarters in Ghostlight Market, Kaifeng (track via Develop menu; complete QTE observation sequence); or join Nine Mortal Ways Sect.

Stealth tip: Save before every Sanctum attempt. Explore with Wind Sense before committing — knowing patrol paths makes every infiltration significantly smoother. Explore our all sects guide to plan your Sect hop order.

Where Winds Meet Weapon Martial Arts FAQs

Can I switch Sects after unlocking a martial art?

Yes — leave via Perception Forest and join another Sect immediately. There is no permanent lockout, and you keep all martial arts and cosmetics earned from your previous Sect. The only restriction is you cannot rejoin the Sect you just left right away.

What’s the best early martial art to pick from Qi Sheng?

Panacea Fan is the recommended pick — it drastically improves survivability when health items run low early in the game. If you prefer DPS, Thundercry Blade or Vernal Umbrella are strong alternatives since both are otherwise only unlockable in Kaifeng, which takes time to reach.

Do I need Dragon Keys for every Skill Theft?

Not every Sanctum requires a Dragon Key, but many do — always prepare Dragon Keys before attempting any Sanctum. Get them by reaching Solo Mode level 2, completing Skill Theft: Unearned Lesson, or clearing Bloomveil Monastery, Gourmand’s Grove, or Tiger Fort Outposts for the first time.

How many weapons can I equip at once?

Two martial arts simultaneously. Choosing weapons from the same Martial Art Path (e.g., Infernal Twinblades + Mortal Rope Dart for Bamboocut – Wind) maximizes synergy since they share Internal Arts compatibility and combat resources. However, cross-path combinations can also work well depending on your playstyle.

How many total martial arts are there in Where Winds Meet?

As of the 1.4 Hexi patch (March 6, 2026), there are 14 weapon martial arts total across 7 Martial Art Paths. The two newest additions — Everspring Umbrella and Unfettered Rope Dart — form the Bamboocut – Dust path introduced in the Hexi update. More weapons, including Gauntlets and Tang Hengdao, are expected in future updates.

What Mystic Arts should I unlock before attempting Sanctums?

Prioritize three: Veil of Stillness (crouch and hide — unlock at Peace Bell Tower in southwest Qinghe at Level 8), Touch of Death (silent takedowns — from the Echoes of Old Battles quest at Northern Vow Ruins in southeast Qinghe), and Wind Sense (see enemies through walls — use constantly during infiltrations). Without Veil of Stillness especially, guards will spot you from a distance and infiltrations become much harder.
