Why Hunt World Bosses in Where Winds Meet?
World Bosses in Where Winds Meet deliver brutal challenges packed with unique mechanics, plus exclusive Inner Way unlocks like Exquisite Scenery or Esoteric Revival that no other path grants — essential for completionists chasing 100%.
These ten fights now span Qinghe, Kaifeng, and the new Hexi region (added in the 1.4 update), often hiding behind quests, items, or time gates, but rewards like Tomes, Medicinal Tales, Echo Jades, Exploration points, 8000 EXP, and 8000 Coins make the grind worthwhile.
Beat one once, then practice free via Main Menu → Wandering Paths → Trials → World Boss (Qinghe/Kaifeng) to master patterns without burning healing charges or durability. Note: Yi Dao is the only World Boss that does not unlock a practice version after your initial encounter.
Before you start hunting: Collect all 8 Oddities across Qinghe and submit them to Qi Sheng to unlock the Bronze Bell Fragment — then repair the Bell of Demoncalm at the Peace Bell tower (near Gleaming Abyss in the Moonveil route). Once repaired, the Bell permanently weakens every World Boss in the Qinghe region, making all six Qinghe encounters significantly more manageable. Skipping this step makes Qinghe bosses noticeably harder.
Bring a Companion: Before most boss encounters you’ll find a Signpost near the arena — interact with it to invite an NPC Companion or a real-world player via the Assist function. Companions aggro the boss, deal damage, and can provide healing, making difficult fights far more forgiving. Companion and Assist options are not available in Trial Boss mode.

Universal World Boss Combat Tips
All World Boss attacks follow two visual cues that determine how to respond:
- Red glow attacks: Can be parried — executing a Perfect Parry immediately knocks the boss down and opens a counterattack window. Master this timing, especially on the final combo of each boss.
- Gold/yellow glow attacks: Completely unblockable — always dodge these, never try to parry.
- Qi/Endurance management: Bait bosses until their Qi bar is depleted — once Exhausted, they are temporarily stunned and this is your window for full combo execution.
- Difficulty guidance: Easier and medium World Bosses are soloable with good parry and dodge mechanics. Harder bosses (especially multi-phase encounters like Wandering Ark) are best tackled in a group — bring a Companion or use the Assist function at the nearby Signpost.
Qinghe World Boss Locations (All 6)
1. Puppeteer Sheng Wu (Overture) — Location & Rewards

Head directly south of the Verdant Wilds Wayfarer (Map NPC) in eastern Qinghe, just west of your starting Bamboo Abode — an easy early grab. Enter the arena marked with a rope and interact with the yellow marker in the center to trigger the fight. Note that Overture and Curtaincall share the same name but have entirely different movesets — prepare accordingly for each. Rewards: Exquisite Scenery Inner Way Tome ×1, Shadow Puppet Doll decoration.
2. Sleeping Daoist — Location & Rewards

Found resting on a tree branch at a bright pink tree on Jadebrook Mountain in Sundara Land, west of the Path of Karma Boundary Stone. The boss sits atop a donkey — expect kicks as part of his moveset. Straightforward to reach: climb to the tree and engage. Rewards: Esoteric Revival Inner Way Tome ×1.
3. Snake Doctor — Location, Prerequisites & Rewards

Located underground via a cave on the west side of Encircling Lake, southwest of Back Mountain Boundary Stone in southeastern Qinghe. The cave entrance is blocked by insta-kill snakes until you craft the Snake King Bone:
- Chat with Silver Needle Disciple Sun Yutang outside the cave to receive the Damaged Manuscript
- Use Wind Sense (V) to locate three gold-outlined large snakes guarding chests in nearby pits
- Use Celestial Seize to safely grab each chest from distance — collect all three Snake King Bone Shards
- Return shards to Sun Yutang to craft the Snake King Bone (grants snake immunity)
- Enter the cave freely and drop into the boss arena
Pro tip: Save your Celestial Seize charges specifically for this — it’s the safest and intended method. Rewards: Star Reacher Inner Way Tome ×1, Bone Shedding Ornament (unique to this boss).
4. Puppeteer Sheng Wu (Curtaincall) — Location & Rewards

Found on a small island with two crooked trees off the northwest border of Sundara Land on the northernmost Qinghe coast. In this version, Sheng Wu controls a puppet with red threads — a completely different moveset from Overture. Custom Chest notes are especially valuable rewards here for gear progression. Rewards: Inner Way Note: Custom Chest ×3.
5. Yi Dao — Location, Prerequisites & Rewards

Located in the Blissful Retreat area of Moonveil Mountains. Prerequisite: Complete Chapter 1: Heaven Has No Pier (after the Qianye encounter). Then find a burned building in the area — instead of entering, circle it to locate a sword near a tree. Touching it triggers a cutscene and drops you into the Dreamscape. Interact with Uncle Zhou to learn Yi Dao’s location, then follow the Dream of Flames Lost quest markers.
Important: Yi Dao is the only World Boss with no practice mode — there is only one initial encounter and it cannot be replicated in Trials afterward. Plan your build and consumables carefully before engaging. Exit and return via the map’s bottom-left icon (Qinghe/Kaifeng toggle). Rewards: Breaking Point Inner Way Tome ×1 (permanent, cannot be re-farmed).
6. Earth Fiend Deity — Location & Rewards

Found on the road between Witherwilds and Peace Bell Tower in the Moonveil Mountain region of western Qinghe — positioned between the Gleaming Abyss and the Bell of Demoncalm. Look for a Signpost near the location marker. If the Bell of Demoncalm has been repaired, this boss will already be weakened before the fight begins. Rewards: Inner Way Note: Custom Chest ×3.
Kaifeng World Boss Locations (All 3)
7. Twin Lions — Location & Rewards

Found in the Granary of Plenty region in southern Kaifeng’s Gracetown. Enter the large central courtyard and approach the Lion Dancer putting on a performance to trigger the fight. Straightforward arena battle with no special prerequisites beyond Kaifeng access. Rewards: Inner Way Note: Custom Chest ×3.
8. Ghost Master — Location, Prerequisites & Rewards

Located on the eastern edge of Mistveil Forest in Kaifeng. The entire region is covered by a thick layer of poisonous fog that insta-kills players on entry. Prerequisite: Clear the fog by completing the Ephemeral Blight quest (full walkthrough in our Mistveil cures guide). Once the fog is lifted, the boss arena is straightforward to reach and engage. Rewards: Inner Way Note: Custom Chest ×3.
9. Wolf Maiden — Location, Prerequisites & Rewards

Found in the southernmost part of Kaifeng, east of Desperation Ridge Boundary Stone. Prerequisite: Appears only at nighttime during the Xu hour. Use our time change guide to advance to the right hour without waiting. The fight takes place in a special instance — exit by clicking the Door icon at the top of the screen. Full boss tactics available in our Wolf Maiden guide. Rewards: Inner Way Note: Custom Chest ×3.
Kaifeng is accessible via the main story. See our Kaifeng unlock guide if you haven’t reached the southern regions yet.
Hexi World Boss Location (Version 1.4)
10. Wandering Ark — Location, Prerequisites & Rewards
Added in the Version 1.4 Hexi update (March 6, 2026), the Wandering Ark is a massive ghostly ship that roams within the sandstorms of Straying Steed Sands in Jade Gate Pass, northwest Hexi. It is the first world boss of the Hexi region.
Prerequisites: Reach Level 14 and complete the Hexi Main Chapter: By Lamplight (requires completing the Qinghe Campaign – Still Shore first). The map becomes unavailable as you enter the sandstorm zone — navigate by following the sound of camel bells roaming the area. Move toward each bell sound until you emerge from the storm and spot the Ark.
Phase 1 — Weak Points: As you approach, the Ark fires volleys of arrows that cannot be deflected — dodge and sprint to close the distance. After three volleys it rises, exposing four Moonlight Withered Branches on its feet. These are the only damageable weak points. Each one destroyed removes one-quarter of the boss’s health bar. While attacking the weak points, dodge the stomping legs and bellyflop attacks — parrying does not deal Qi damage here, so dodging is preferable.
Phase 2 — Moon Reversal: Once all four weak points are destroyed, the boss shifts to entirely new attacks including a Qi-drain charge and a moon projectile. A prompt appears to shoot the Moon Lantern — skip this if new, as the aim window is very small. Instead, focus on the main Phase 2 mechanic: when the Ark fires a moon projectile, allow it to land, then immediately run to it and use the reverse ability to send it flying back at the boss. A successful hit knocks it out of the sky, damages it, and exposes a loose weak point for bonus damage. Repeat this until defeated.
Group recommendation: This is a multi-phase boss with a large health bar and unblockable AoE attacks — grouping with at least one other player or bringing a healer Companion via the nearby Signpost is strongly recommended.
Rewards (First Clear): Hair Ornament – Withered Twig ×1, Inner Way Note: Custom Chest ×5, Medicinal Tales ×3, Echo Jade ×20. Trial completion additionally rewards Avatar – Wandering Ark and Badge – Trial: Anchor the Ark.
Where Winds Meet World Boss FAQs
Do World Bosses respawn after defeat in Where Winds Meet?
Yes — all World Bosses respawn after defeat. Farm their rewards repeatedly and practice patterns in the free Trial mode via Main Menu → Wandering Paths → Trials → World Boss. Note: Yi Dao is the only exception with no Trial unlock.
What does the Bell of Demoncalm do, and how do I unlock it?
The Bell of Demoncalm permanently weakens all six World Bosses in the Qinghe region. To unlock it, collect all 8 Oddities across Qinghe and submit them to Qi Sheng to obtain the Bronze Bell Fragment. Then repair the Bell at the Peace Bell tower in the Moonveil route near Gleaming Abyss. This is one of the most impactful early investments you can make — all Qinghe boss fights become noticeably easier after repair.
How do I get the Snake King Bone for the Snake Doctor boss?
Talk to Silver Needle Disciple Sun Yutang outside the cave to receive the Damaged Manuscript. Then use Wind Sense (V) to find three gold-outlined large snakes in nearby pits. Use Celestial Seize to safely grab the Snake King Bone Shards from a distance. Return all three shards to Sun Yutang to craft the Snake King Bone, which grants immunity to the insta-kill snakes blocking the cave entrance.
Can I fight Yi Dao again after the first encounter?
No. Yi Dao is the only World Boss in Where Winds Meet that does not unlock a practice or Trial version after your initial encounter. The rewards are permanent on first clear, but there is no way to replay the fight. Plan your build, stock consumables, and don’t rush into this one unprepared.
How do I make Wolf Maiden appear?
Wolf Maiden only appears during the Xu hour at night. If it’s currently daytime in-game, use the time change method in our guide to advance to the correct hour. The fight takes place in a special instance — exit by clicking the Door icon at the top of the screen.
How do I unlock the Wandering Ark world boss in Hexi?
Complete the Qinghe Campaign – Still Shore to unlock the Hexi region, then reach Level 14 and complete the Hexi Main Chapter: By Lamplight to access Jade Gate Pass. The Wandering Ark roams within the sandstorm in the Straying Steed Sands area of northwest Hexi. Navigate through the storm by following the sound of camel bells — your map will be unavailable inside the storm. This is a multi-phase boss and is recommended for group play or with a Companion.
Should I bring a Companion to World Boss fights?
Yes, especially for harder multi-phase bosses like the Wandering Ark. Before most boss arenas you’ll find a Signpost — interact with it to bring an NPC Companion (based on your story progress) or invite a real player via the Assist function. Companions aggro the boss, deal damage, and can provide healing. Note that Companion and Assist are disabled in Trial Boss mode.
