Which Seed Should You Plant in Beast of Reincarnation?

    TL;DR

    • Seeds are planted in the Grow Chamber inside the Cleanse Walker and harvested by Kagura while you explore.
    • Crops feed into Kagura’s cooking, which gives Emma and Koo permanent stat buffs to HP, Attack, and Defense.
    • Confirmed seed types include Soya Bean, Rice, Strawberry, Apple, and Biwafruit — each found in different regions.
    • Rice and Soya Bean are the earliest seeds available and unlock the first cooking recipes.
    • Fruit seeds like Strawberry and Apple become available from Chapter 3 onward and power better meal recipes.
    • Plant every seed you find — the Grow Chamber has multiple slots and Kagura handles harvesting automatically.

Which seed should you plant in Beast of Reincarnation is a question most players start asking around Chapter 2 once Kagura wakes up and the Grow Chamber opens. The cultivation system is easy to overlook — the game does not explain it in detail — but it feeds directly into cooking, and cooking gives Emma and Koo permanent stat buffs that carry all the way to the endgame. This guide covers every confirmed seed type, where to find them, and how to think about what to plant first.

How the Grow Chamber Works in Beast of Reincarnation

The Grow Chamber is a station inside the Cleanse Walker, your mobile base. Once Kagura wakes up as part of the Chapter 1 story — she joins the group after being rescued by Brad — she takes over all cooking and crop management. You plant the seedlings, she does the rest.

Here is how the loop works:

    1. Find a Crop Seedling out in the world — as a collectible, from a Wandering Merchant, or inside a chest or building.
    2. Return to the Cleanse Walker and plant it in the Grow Chamber.
    3. Head back out to explore. Kagura tends and harvests the crops while you are away.
    4. When you return, the harvested crop is added to the cooking ingredient pool.
    5. Kagura uses those ingredients — plus fish, meat, and eggs — to cook meals that give Emma and Koo permanent stat buffs.

Different seedlings have different harvest times. Fruit crops take longer to mature than staple grains, but they tend to feed into more powerful recipes. The Grow Chamber has multiple planting slots, so you are not choosing just one seed — you want to keep every slot filled at all times.

The Incubator is a separate station in the Cleanse Walker. If you find fertilized eggs during exploration, you can hatch and raise chickens there. Kagura manages the flock and the eggs supply an ongoing ingredient for recipes that do not rely on crops.

How to Unlock the Grow Chamber

The Grow Chamber becomes available once Kagura joins the Cleanse Walker, which happens during Chapter 1: Seedling. She cannot tend crops until she has woken up, so any seedlings you pick up before that point are stored until she is available. You do not lose them.

Do not skip the first set of seedlings in the Ogouchi Buffer Zone even if you are not yet able to plant them. Pick them up anyway — they will be ready to plant as soon as Kagura is online.

All Confirmed Seed Types in Beast of Reincarnation

Here are every confirmed Crop Seedling type found so far across the game’s regions:

    Soya Bean

The earliest seed you will find. Two Soya Bean seedlings are available in the Ogouchi Buffer Zone in Chapter 1 — one inside the building northwest of Tailwater Village campsite, and one inside the cave in the Tailwater Rice Fields. Soya Beans are the main ingredient for Boiled Beans, the first Normal Recipe you can find in the game. They are fast to grow and reliable for keeping the cooking queue stocked early on.

    Rice

Also found in Chapter 1’s Ogouchi Buffer Zone. Two Rice seedlings are available — one at the Tailwater Northern Rice Field near the wooden path, and one inside the cave where Emma finds the Yellow Key during the story quest. Rice is an ingredient in Egg Onigiri, one of the recipes you can purchase from the Wandering Merchant in The Great Wall Terraces in Chapter 3. It is a versatile staple that feeds into several mid-game recipes.

    Biwafruit

Found starting in Chapter 3: The Vessel. One Biwafruit seedling sits near the base of the large statue to the right of the first bulkhead at the start of The Great Wall Terraces zone. The Biwafruit Sandwich recipe is also sold by the Wandering Merchant in that same area, making it a natural pairing. Biwafruit ripens more slowly than grain crops but unlocks a distinct meal category.

    Strawberry

Available to purchase from the Wandering Merchant south of the Mountain Plaza: Forefront campsite in The Great Wall Terraces. This makes it a bought seed rather than a found collectible. Strawberry is a fruit crop with a longer grow time but feeds into sweeter dessert-type recipes that tend to buff recovery-related stats.

    Apple

Found in The Great Wall Terraces, directly northeast of the Maze of Sin Entrance campsite near a metal container. Apple is another fruit crop with a moderate grow time. It feeds into recipes that support sustained play — meal types that keep Emma and Koo’s hunger meter topped up alongside stat bonuses.

Which Seed Should You Plant First?

There is no single correct answer — the Grow Chamber has multiple slots for a reason. That said, here is how to think about priority by stage of the game:

Early Game (Chapters 1–2): Plant Soya Bean and Rice First

These are your foundational crops. They unlock the first available recipes, they grow fast, and they feed into Kagura’s early cooking options. Boiled Beans is likely the first meal Kagura can make, and it unlocks the stat buff system for Emma and Koo. Get both of these in the ground as soon as Kagura is active.

Chapter 3 Onward: Add Biwafruit and Strawberry

Once you reach The Great Wall Terraces, stop at the Wandering Merchant and buy the Strawberry seedling immediately. The Biwafruit seedling is easy to miss — it sits near the large statue at the zone entrance, to the right of the first bulkhead. Pick it up before you start chasing the main quest. Both of these are needed for the recipes unlocked in this zone, including the Biwafruit Sandwich, which becomes a useful meal for boss preparation.

Apple: Plant It When You Find It

The Apple seedling in The Great Wall Terraces is near the Maze of Sin Entrance campsite, which is an optional area. If you explore the Maze of Sin — which is worth it for the skill ambers and documents inside — you will pass right by it. Pick it up and plant it alongside the other fruit crops.

    What Do Crops Actually Do?

Every crop feeds into Kagura’s cooking system. Meals she prepares give permanent stat buffs to Emma and Koo each time they are eaten. The three core buff categories confirmed across the game are:

    • HP — increases total health for both Emma and Koo
    • Attack — increases damage output
    • Defense — reduces incoming damage

Meals cooked at higher recipe levels give larger stat bonuses. Kagura can research upgraded versions of recipes while you are exploring, which improves the buff value without changing the ingredients needed. The system is designed to reward players who keep the Grow Chamber stocked and check in with Kagura regularly.

The key point: eating Kagura’s meals is not optional if you want to stay competitive against tougher Nushi bosses. The stat gains stack up over time and make a real difference by the mid-game, especially heading into Chapter 5 and beyond. If you are struggling with a boss, the first thing to check is whether you have been eating meals consistently. There is a strong chance you have left stat points on the table.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of the Grow Chamber

    • Always keep every slot filled. Empty slots mean wasted time. If a crop has been harvested, plant the next seedling immediately before leaving the Cleanse Walker.
    • Eat before you rest. When you return to the Walker, check the available meals first. Eating before sleeping is a fast way to apply all pending buffs without forgetting them.
    • Check Kagura’s research. She can upgrade recipe tiers while you are away. Look at her research queue each time you return and make sure she is always working on something.
    • Keep the Incubator running too. If you find fertilized eggs, start them in the Incubator. Eggs feed into recipes that do not rely on crops, giving Kagura more options even when crops are still growing.
    • Automate where possible. The game lets you hand some tasks to NPC discretion. If you are finding the Walker management tedious, enable that setting for harvesting and crop rotation.

Where to Find All Crop Seedlings (by Region)

Kanto Region — Ogouchi Buffer Zone (Chapter 1)

    • Soya Bean — Northwest of Tailwater Village campsite, inside the building
    • Soya Bean — Inside the cave in the Tailwater Rice Fields
    • Rice — Northeast of Tailwater Village campsite, at the upper rice field near the wooden path
    • Rice — Inside the cave north of Tailwater Village, same room as the Yellow Key

Mountainous Region — The Great Wall Terraces (Chapter 3)

    • Biwafruit — Right side of the first bulkhead at the zone start, near the base of the large statue
    • Strawberry — Purchase from the Wandering Merchant south of Mountain Plaza: Forefront campsite
    • Apple — Directly northeast of the Maze of Sin Entrance campsite, near the metal container

More seedling types appear in later regions as you progress through the story. The core principle stays the same regardless: pick up every seedling you come across and plant it as soon as you return to the Walker.

Does It Matter Which Seed You Plant?

In terms of raw priority, no — you should plant all of them. The Grow Chamber supports multiple crops simultaneously, so there is no scenario where you have to choose one and sacrifice another. The question is really about which seedlings to prioritize finding and buying first, and the answer is Soya Bean and Rice in Chapter 1, then Biwafruit and Strawberry when you reach Chapter 3.

Where it does matter is recipe unlocks. If Kagura does not have a specific ingredient, she cannot cook a specific meal. So if you want the Biwafruit Sandwich buff before a boss fight, you need that seedling planted and harvested before the fight — not after. Think of seedling collection as early preparation for the challenges two or three chapters ahead.

For Chapter 3 specifically, the Malefact of Fate quest and the Nue Malefact boss fight are easier when you have been eating Kagura’s meals consistently. Our full Malefact of Fate quest guide covers that chapter from start to finish, including the boss mechanics and what skills to use.

    Frequently Asked Questions

When do I unlock the Grow Chamber in Beast of Reincarnation?

The Grow Chamber becomes usable once Kagura joins the Cleanse Walker during Chapter 1: Seedling. She is recruited after Brad brings her aboard following the first Nue Malefact encounter.

Can I miss crop seedlings in Beast of Reincarnation?

No. Nothing is permanently missable in the game. You can return to any region after completing its chapter and pick up any seedlings you skipped.

    Does Kagura harvest crops automatically?

Yes. Once seedlings are planted, Kagura tends and harvests them while you are out exploring. You do not need to manually manage crops between visits.

What recipes use Soya Bean in Beast of Reincarnation?

Boiled Beans is the first recipe confirmed to use Soya Bean. The recipe book for it is found north of the Lookout Shack campsite in the Ogouchi Buffer Zone, inside a building.

Is there a best meal to eat before a boss fight?

Eat whatever Kagura has available that gives the stat you need most. For offensive fights, prioritize Attack buff meals. For survival against hard-hitting bosses, Defense and HP meals are more valuable. The achievements guide can help you plan what to prioritize before the later chapters.
