WoW Midnight Season 2 DPS Tier List
    • TL;DR
    • Season 2 launched August 18, 2026 with Patch 12.1 “Curse of Ula’tek” — the biggest DPS shakeup of the expansion.
    • Arms Warrior and Arcane Mage are the two comp-defining DPS specs for Mythic+. No single S-tier exists — both sit at A+.
    • For The Venomous Abyss raid, Arms Warrior, Devourer Demon Hunter, and Balance Druid lead the field.
    • Blizzard deliberately shifted power out of big cooldowns and into baseline rotational abilities — specs that benefit from consistent damage won out.
    • Augmentation Evoker fell from Season 1 meta staple to C-tier. Unholy DK dropped from S to B due to weak single-target.
    • Biggest patch 12.1 winners: Devourer DH (+14%), Frost DK (+9%), Fury Warrior and Subtlety Rogue (+6%), Enhancement Shaman (+5%).
    • This list is updated through August 25, 2026 including Blizzard’s Week 2 tuning pass and first live Warcraft Logs data.

WoW Midnight Season 2 DPS Tier List Overview

WoW Midnight Season 2 DPS Tier List is the most searched ranking topic since the season went live on August 18, 2026. Patch 12.1 “Curse of Ula’tek” changed enough of the damage landscape that last season’s main is not automatically this season’s main. The biggest systemic shift was Blizzard’s deliberate decision to pull power out of major DPS cooldowns and move it into baseline rotational abilities. Specs built around consistent, steady damage won out. Specs built around stacking enormous burst windows came out behind. The result is one of the most even DPS fields in recent memory — but there are still clear leaders, and knowing who they are matters when you are choosing a main or building a raid roster. You can always check the official World of Warcraft site for the latest hotfix and tuning notes as the season continues.

This guide covers the full DPS tier list for both Mythic+ Season 2 keys and The Venomous Abyss raid, the biggest patch 12.1 winners and losers, and what to play if you are choosing a main or deciding whether to reroll. If you are still working on your house between raid nights, our WoW Player Housing complete guide covers everything from unlocking your plot to the new Blueprints system.

WoW Midnight Season 2 DPS Tier List

How This DPS Tier List Works

Before diving into the rankings, here is how to read them correctly. This list is based on data through August 25, 2026, including Blizzard’s August 25 tuning pass and first-week live Warcraft Logs data from The Venomous Abyss and Season 2 keys. Rankings for Mythic+ and raid are separated because the two formats reward very different things.

Mythic+ rankings value: AoE damage, priority funnel damage, utility (raid buffs, interrupts, crowd control), survivability, and overall pushing value across the eight-dungeon Season 2 pool.

Raid rankings value: single-target boss damage, cleave on add-heavy encounters, cooldown alignment with enrage timers, and raid utility like buffs and battle resurrection.

Tier placement describes a spec’s ceiling and its value in the best-case setup. No DPS spec this season is unplayable. Player skill, gear level, route knowledge, interrupts, and defensive use matter far more than a tier gap in most normal and heroic content. Tier placement matters most for pushing the highest Mythic+ keys or building a Mythic raid roster with tight composition requirements.

Blizzard published a tuning calendar with planned passes on August 18, August 25, September 1, and September 22. Expect rankings to continue shifting during the first month of the season.

    Mythic+ DPS Tier List — Season 2 (Updated August 25, 2026)

    A+ Tier — Comp-Defining Picks

No spec holds a traditional S-tier this season. The two leaders sit at A+ and compositions are being built around which of their raid buffs — Battle Shout or Arcane Intellect — the group prioritizes.

    Arms Warrior

Arms Warrior is the safest melee investment in Season 2 and leads Mythic+ through consistent priority cleave. Sweeping Strikes maintains near-100% uptime, which means every single-target button is simultaneously a cleave button. Two-to-five target damage covers the overwhelming majority of Mythic+ trash pack sizes. The funnel is excellent — priority targets die on schedule without sacrificing AoE pressure. Battle Shout is one of the two season-defining raid buffs, and multiple comp styles are being built around having Arms as the melee anchor. Early live data from Warcraft Logs confirms Arms is leading melee representation in high keys across all regions.

    Arcane Mage

Arcane Mage leads ranged DPS through a different route. Resonance makes Arcane Barrage scale with each additional target hit, so priority damage actually increases as pull size grows. Touch of the Magi combined with Arcane Surge creates enormous burst windows that align well with both key boss phases and enrage timers in the raid. Arcane also brings Arcane Intellect — the second of the two season-defining raid buffs — plus Bloodlust, Remove Curse, Spellsteal, and an immunity in Ice Block. Temple of Sethraliss is particularly strong for Arcane given its pull structure and the number of dangerous caster enemies.

A Tier — Strong Second and Third Picks

These specs are highly reliable performers. Any of them fills the second or third DPS slot in a competitive group without costing anything meaningful compared to the A+ options.

    Devourer Demon Hunter

Devourer Demon Hunter received the largest flat buff of any DPS spec in Blizzard’s August 15 tuning pass — a +14% increase to ability damage, offset by a reduction to Reap, Cull, and Eradicate. The net result is a spec that is less burst-dependent and more consistent across a key’s full runtime. Leech inside Void Metamorphosis provides strong survivability. Chaos Brand’s magic amplification pairs naturally with Arcane Mage compositions. Early live Warcraft Logs data is showing Devourer performing even more strongly than PTR projections suggested, making this a spec to watch for potential upward movement in the coming weeks.

    Balance Druid

Balance Druid brings some of the best single-target damage in the game alongside excellent priority damage. It sits slightly behind other A-tier options on raw overall throughput, but Mark of the Wild in a group context closes most of that gap. Starfall provides strong uncapped AoE on large pulls, and route design matters for maximizing Moonkin output. Innervate and combat resurrection also give Balance an excellent utility package that makes it one of the most desirable ranged picks on any raid roster.

    Elemental Shaman

Elemental Shaman brings strong AoE damage on Bloodlust pulls, Skyfury as a premium raid buff, and the unique advantage of being the only ranged spec with a short interrupt — Wind Shear. This makes Elemental an outstanding second or third pick in any composition that wants to cover interrupt responsibility with a DPS slot rather than relying entirely on the healer or melee. Earthquake is the main AoE driver and is somewhat target-capped, but the combination of damage and utility keeps Elemental in a strong A-tier position.

    Outlaw Rogue

Outlaw Rogue fits perfectly into physical compositions alongside Battle Shout and Mystic Touch. Blade Flurry provides strong eight-target cleave, which covers most trash pack sizes in Season 2. Shroud of Concealment is slightly less impactful this season as Blizzard reduced the number of mandatory trash skips, but the overall damage profile and flexibility of Outlaw keep it comfortably in A-tier.

    Windwalker Monk

Windwalker Monk has the highest burst AoE potential during cooldowns of any melee spec in the game right now. The ceiling is very high in the right hands. The main weakness holding it from A+ is single-target damage — roughly 40% of Mythic+ combat involves boss damage, and Windwalker’s boss performance falls behind its trash performance significantly. Detox, Ring of Peace, and Leg Sweep are strong utility tools, and Mystic Touch makes Windwalker a natural anchor in any physical damage composition.

    Frost Death Knight

Frost Death Knight received a +9% buff to all ability damage in Blizzard’s August 15 tuning pass, which pushed it solidly into A-tier. The spec has a strong damage profile across both AoE and single-target and is much closer to the top than pre-season predictions suggested. Death Grip, Blinding Sleet, Death Strike, Anti-Magic Shell, and Icebound Fortitude make Frost one of the most survivable DPS specs in the game — an increasingly important factor with Season 2’s higher creature damage across the board.

    Assassination Rogue

Assassination Rogue is currently underplayed relative to its actual power level. AoE is great. Priority damage while AoEing is exceptional — one of the best damage profiles for situations where one mob must die before everything else. Caustic Spatter on the main target with Rupture for energy generation is a smooth rotation once learned. Bait and Switch may be the best defensive Hero Talent of any class this season. As more players discover the spec’s ceiling, expect its representation in high keys to grow.

B Tier — Solid With Specific Weaknesses

B-tier specs are fully capable of clearing Keystone Master, Hero, and the 0.1% title in the right hands. They are held back by one specific weakness — usually single-target on bosses, AoE scaling issues, or a lack of comp-defining utility — rather than any fundamental damage problem.

    Destruction Warlock

Destruction Warlock has some of the highest AoE damage in the game through Rain of Fire. Relevant single-target on top of that separates it from pure AoE turret comparisons. It has genuine upward mobility — a modest tuning pass could push it into A-tier quickly. Currently B because the specs above it bring more to a composition in total, not because the damage output is lacking.

    Unholy Death Knight

Unholy DK was S-tier in Season 1. In Season 2, it took a meaningful step back. AoE is still very strong — Dark Transformation and Unholy Assault remain powerful on trash. But single-target damage is now among the weakest in the game for a melee spec, which is why it sits at B rather than A. A targeted tuning pass on single-target would move Unholy back up immediately. If you love the spec, it is absolutely playable — just not the meta pick it was last season.

    Subtlety Rogue

Subtlety Rogue received late-PTR bug fixes that correctly restored Veiltouched, Dark Brew, and Deeper Daggers buffs to Ancient Arts clones, giving it very strong single-target performance. The B placement may be conservative as live data develops — watch this spec in the coming weeks.

    Other Notable B-Tier Specs

    • Demonology Warlock — Strong AoE profile but ramp time causes issues on short pulls. Reliable in organized groups with good pull planning.
    • Frost Mage — Competent option with good mobility. Lacks a defining role in the Season 2 meta that Arcane fills better.
    • Marksmanship Hunter — Aimed Shot damage falls behind other ranged. Turtle immunity is still useful survivability. Now mid-tier.
    • Havoc Demon Hunter — Received nerfs to Eradicate’s additional target damage and shorter Annihilator buff duration. Void Guard build shows some potential but needs more data.
    • Enhancement Shaman — Received a flat +5% damage increase in the August 15 tuning pass. Solid but not enough to crack A-tier against the current field.
    • Retribution Paladin — Lower overall output. Word of Glory, Blessing of Sacrifice, Divine Shield, and Intercession provide solid group utility, but the DPS ceiling is the problem.
    • Shadow Priest — Strong single-target but Mythic+ AoE profile limits its ceiling. Power Infusion remains valuable group utility.
    • Feral Druid — Strong in the right route but strict positional requirements and limited AoE hold it to B-tier in Season 2.
    • Survival Hunter, Beast Mastery Hunter — Both received buffs in tuning but start in B. Beast Mastery specifically got a strong Season 2 tier set that may push it up with more data.
    • Devastation Evoker — Has decent AoE but every Evoker player should be on Augmentation or Preservation. Dev’s niche gets squeezed when Aug exists in the same class.
    • Affliction Warlock — DoT ramp time is still too slow for most key packs. Packs die before the damage pressure builds.

C Tier — Playable But Not Meta

    Augmentation Evoker

Augmentation Evoker is the biggest fall from grace in Season 2. It dominated Season 1 as a near-mandatory pick for high-key pushing. In Season 2, its pushing value has decreased significantly in the new dungeon pool and with the current composition framework. Ebon Might scaling benefits are less impactful when Arms Warrior and Arcane Mage are already defining the top comp through individual damage rather than multiplying output. Augmentation is still fun and still has unique gameplay, but it is no longer a comp-defining pick. It can still work at mid-range key levels, but expect to not be invited to organized high-key groups without this changing in a future tuning pass.

    Fury Warrior

Fury Warrior is overshadowed by Arms in every relevant area for Mythic+. Arms’ constant Sweeping Strikes cleave does what Fury wants to do better and more consistently. Fury remains viable for raid content and for players who genuinely prefer the spec’s feel, but it has no Mythic+ meta role in Season 2. Its positioning here is not because it is broken — it is because Arms makes it redundant in almost every scenario where you would consider bringing Warrior.

Raid DPS Tier List — The Venomous Abyss (Updated August 25, 2026)

The Venomous Abyss is an eight-boss raid that opened alongside Season 2 on August 18, 2026. Raid rankings use a different scoring system than Mythic+ — encounter-specific damage profiles, add management, cleave opportunities, and cooldown timing all matter more than in a key. The rankings below combine Wowhead’s August 14 pre-season tier list with live Warcraft Logs data from the first week of Heroic and Mythic progression. For a full boss walkthrough, see the Venomous Abyss Raid Guide.

    S Tier — Raid Leaders

    • Arms Warrior — Best all-content DPS going into Season 2. Leads single-target and cleave. Its stacked cleave through Sweeping Strikes fits The Venomous Abyss encounter design, and Battle Shout gives it value beyond the damage meter on every pull.
    • Devourer Demon Hunter — Strong burst windows, excellent sustained cleave, and Chaos Brand. Well-suited to the add-heavy encounter design in The Venomous Abyss.
    • Balance Druid — Excels on boss encounters with adds. One of the strongest spread-cleave options in the raid. Mark of the Wild and battle resurrection make Balance a top priority pick for any serious progression roster.

    A+ Tier — High-Priority Picks

    • Arcane Mage — Strong burst windows that align well with raid enrage timers. Arcane Intellect plus Bloodlust make it a utility anchor on top of its damage.
    • Destruction Warlock — Consistent AoE pressure. Performs stronger in raid than in Mythic+ because the encounter timers favor sustained output over burst funnel damage.
    • Windwalker Monk — The burst ceiling is very high on add-heavy bosses. Mystic Touch adds group value.
    • Shadow Priest — Strong single-target. Power Infusion is one of the most contested cooldown assignments in any raid, making Shadow a high-value pick for progression guilds.
    • Frost Death Knight — After the +9% buff, Frost has a strong case for S-tier in raid. Strong cleave and excellent survivability on tank-swap-heavy encounters.

A Tier — Reliable Raid Picks

    • Elemental Shaman — Bloodlust and Skyfury make Elemental one of the best utility-per-slot investments in any raid composition.
    • Outlaw Rogue, Assassination Rogue — Both bring strong cleave and good single-target. Assassination shines on encounters where priority target death order matters.
    • Unholy Death Knight — AoE is still strong in raid. Single-target weakness is less punishing in raid than in Mythic+ because multi-target encounters are more common.
    • Beast Mastery Hunter — Strong Season 2 tier set. Ranged and mobile, which suits the movement-heavy mechanics in The Venomous Abyss.

B Tier and Below — Viable But Not Priority

Frost Mage, Havoc Demon Hunter, Retribution Paladin, Demonology Warlock, Enhancement Shaman, Subtlety Rogue, Feral Druid, Survival Hunter, Marksmanship Hunter, and Devastation Evoker all sit in B-tier or below for raid. None are dead — all can clear Heroic and contribute meaningfully. But if a raid leader is choosing between two equally skilled players for a roster spot, the specs above them will be preferred in a competitive progression environment. Augmentation Evoker and Fury Warrior remain C-tier in raid for the same reasons as in Mythic+.

    Biggest Winners in Patch 12.1

Blizzard’s August 15 tuning pass reshaped the DPS field before Season 2 even opened. Here are the specs that gained the most:

    • Devourer Demon Hunter: +14% to ability damage. The largest flat increase of any DPS spec in the patch. Offset partially by cooldown reductions to Reap, Cull, and Eradicate, but the net result is a more consistent damage profile across a full key.
    • Frost Death Knight: +9% to all ability damage. Pushed Frost from a borderline A/B spec to a clear A-tier pick.
    • Fury Warrior and Subtlety Rogue: Both received +6% damage increases. Subtlety also benefitted from late-PTR bug fixes. Neither cracked A-tier yet, but both are much closer than pre-patch estimates suggested.
    • Enhancement Shaman: Flat +5% damage increase. Immediately noticeable in early live data.
    • Assassination Rogue: +4% damage. Combined with its existing strength, this has made Assassination one of the most undervalued picks of the early season.

    Biggest Losers in Patch 12.1

    • Augmentation Evoker: The transition from Season 1 dominance to C-tier is the single largest fall of the season. The spec’s amplification model is less impactful in the new composition framework.
    • Unholy Death Knight: Dropped from S-tier. The AoE is still there, but the single-target damage loss is significant enough to push it out of any top-comp discussion for Mythic+.
    • Arcane Mage and Devourer DH: Both received nerfs to specific cooldown abilities even while receiving baseline buffs. Arcane Mage’s overall position remains strong, but Devourer’s burst window damage was deliberately flattened.
    • Fury Warrior: Player reception to the patch’s impact on Fury was notably negative in the community. The spec still lacks a role that Arms Warrior does not fill better in every Mythic+ context.

What DPS Spec Should You Play in Season 2?

Here is the practical decision guide depending on what you want to do this season.

Best Melee for Mythic+ and Raid

Play Arms Warrior. It is the safest investment across both content formats, leads melee representation in early live data, and brings one of the two most valuable raid buffs this season. If you enjoy Warrior and want to play melee, there is no better call right now.

Best Ranged for Mythic+ and Raid

Play Arcane Mage. It is the best single ranged spec for covering both Mythic+ and raid in the same character. Three Mage specs also give you protection against future tuning — if Arcane falls, Fire or Frost are reasonable alternatives without rerolling entirely.

    Best Class for Flexibility

Play Rogue if you want pure DPS flexibility. Every Rogue spec is currently useful — Outlaw for Mythic+, Assassination for priority-target damage, and Subtlety for single-target output. You can swap specs to fit any content without losing much ground.

Best DPS With Utility in Dungeons

Play Elemental Shaman. Bloodlust, a short interrupt, Skyfury, and strong AoE make Elemental the most utility-rich ranged DPS in the Season 2 dungeon pool. Groups are almost always happy to have one.

Should You Reroll From Season 1?

Only if you played Augmentation Evoker and were pushing the highest key levels. For most players, the tier gaps between specs are much smaller than they look on paper. Skill, gear, and dungeon knowledge close most tier gaps at key levels below +18. If you are pushing weekly keys for Great Vault and raid, any A-tier or high B-tier spec gets you everything you need. For a broader look at the class landscape and which classes fit different playstyles, check the WoW Midnight class choice guide and tier list.

How Patch 12.1 Changed the DPS Meta

Three systemic changes define the Season 2 DPS meta beyond any individual spec:

    1. Cooldown damage was nerfed, rotational damage was buffed. Blizzard deliberately shifted power out of big cooldown windows and into baseline abilities. This rewards consistent, high-uptime damage profiles over specs built around stacking one enormous burst window every 3 minutes. Arms Warrior benefits from this design because Sweeping Strikes is always on. Specs like Augmentation Evoker — which amplified cooldown damage — lost relative value.

    2. Player health and creature damage both increased by 25%. Every player has a larger health pool. Every enemy hits harder. Healers have more time to react to damage spikes, but DPS specs with strong self-sustain — like Frost DK with Death Strike, or Devourer DH with Void Meta leech — gained survivability value that was not as important in Season 1.

    3. The Mistcrest gearing system rewards high-key runs. The August 25 tuning pass from Blizzard buffed underperformers rather than nerfing launch leaders, which means the current meta is more compressed than it looks. For a full breakdown of how gearing works alongside pushing keys this season, the Season 2 Mythic+ Dungeon Tier List and Best Comps guide covers the full reward structure and which dungeons to prioritize.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best DPS spec in WoW Midnight Season 2?

There is no single best answer because Mythic+ and raid reward different things. For Mythic+, Arms Warrior and Arcane Mage are the two comp-defining picks. For raid, Arms Warrior, Devourer Demon Hunter, and Balance Druid lead the S-tier going into Week 2 of The Venomous Abyss.

Is Augmentation Evoker still good in Season 2?

No, not at the top level. Augmentation dropped from a near-mandatory meta pick in Season 1 to C-tier in Season 2. The new dungeon pool and composition framework reduced its amplification value significantly. Blizzard could change this with a targeted buff, but as of August 25, 2026, it is not a comp-defining spec.

Is Unholy DK worth playing in Season 2?

Yes, but at B-tier. The AoE profile is still strong. The single-target damage is the problem — it is among the weakest in the game for a melee spec right now. A tuning pass on single-target would push Unholy back up. If you enjoy the spec, it is fully playable. Just do not expect it to be the meta pick it was in Season 1.

What melee DPS is best for Mythic+?

Arms Warrior, followed by Outlaw Rogue, Windwalker Monk, Frost Death Knight, and Assassination Rogue. Arms is the clear leader. The others are all strong second or third picks depending on what your group needs to cover.

What ranged DPS is best for Mythic+?

Arcane Mage, followed by Balance Druid and Elemental Shaman. Elemental is the top pick if your group needs Bloodlust covered from a DPS slot. Arcane is the top pick if your group already has Bloodlust covered elsewhere.

Will this tier list change during Season 2?

Yes. Blizzard planned tuning passes on August 18, August 25, September 1, and September 22. The August 25 pass already moved some specs. Expect another meaningful shift in early September as live data settles and Blizzard adjusts outliers. Always treat any early-season tier list as directional rather than final.

Do I need to follow the meta to enjoy WoW Midnight Season 2?

Absolutely not. Any A-tier spec gets you Keystone Master, the weekly Vault, and full Heroic raid clears with no issues. The meta matters most at +18 and above in Mythic+ and during Mythic raid progression. For the vast majority of players, playing a spec you enjoy and know well outperforms a meta pick you are still learning.
