The Joshua Pike Investigation in 007 First Light is your first real field test as James Bond. It takes place during the “A Night Out” chapter, and it is not as straightforward as it looks. You have to reach the upstairs lounge, hack Pike’s phone, find his contact, and handle a situation that keeps changing. The good news? There are multiple ways to get things done — just like a real spy would. This guide covers everything, step by step.

Where Does the Joshua Pike Investigation Start?
The investigation starts after you collect the dead drop from the bathroom at the start of the “A Night Out” mission. Once you pick up the mission brief from the canister inside the third toilet stall, you will also have to fight off an angry boyfriend before leaving. After that, the main objective unlocks — find and investigate Joshua Pike, who is up in the exclusive upstairs lounge.
The bouncer at the main stairs will stop you unless you have a stamp. So before going up, you need to figure out how to get there. Luckily, there are three routes.
How to Reach the Upstairs Lounge (3 Routes)
Route 1: Get the Stamp (Main Staircase)
This is the cleanest route and lets you walk right up the main staircase like you own the place.
First, find the eavesdrop opportunity near the right-side room of the bar. Listen to the couple’s conversation — they will mention a name. That name is Jones. Now head to the stamp counter, which is opposite the bathrooms. Talk to the male NPC there and tell him you are Jones. He will give you the stamp without any trouble. Head to the main stairs, show the stamp, and the bouncer will let you through.
Alternatively, you can also sneak into the door behind the stamp counter and steal the stamp directly. This skips the conversation entirely if you prefer the stealth approach.
One more thing worth noting — the NPC at the stamp counter is played by popular YouTuber Jacksepticeye, which is a fun Easter egg to catch.
Route 2: Climb Up (Above and Beyond)
If you don’t want to bother with the stamp, you can climb your way up using the backstage area.
Go to the main dance floor and find the eavesdrop opportunity near the wall. The couple there talks about someone who climbed up to the lounge through backstage access to get free drinks. Take that hint and move to the right side of the DJ stage. Look for a small opening and slip through it to enter the backstage area.
Once inside, turn left immediately. Climb over the equipment and make your way up. This route skips the bouncer entirely and drops you straight into the upstairs lounge.
Route 3: Staff Only Corridor (Sneak Through)
This is the most covert route. Go behind the bar and find the doorway that leads to the staff-only corridor. Use your Dart gadget to disorient the bartender near the door. Walk past her and enter the restricted area.
Inside, you will spot another NPC. Sneak past him carefully and head up the stairs. This will bring you to the target area without needing a stamp or climbing anything.
How to Hack Joshua Pike’s Phone
Once you are in the upstairs lounge, use your Q-Lens to spot Joshua Pike. He will be in a white shirt on the dance floor area of the lounge.
Get close to him and activate the Q-Watch to begin hacking his phone. The hack does not complete instantly — you have to stay near him while it progresses. Pike will move around, so keep following him without losing proximity.
At some point, the woman in the red dress (from the bar encounter earlier) will show up and try to talk to you. Select the “Play Along” dialogue prompt to deal with her quickly and get back to following Pike.
Eventually, Pike will head into a restricted area where the bouncer blocks the entrance. Do not panic. Look to the left of that bouncer — you will see a door that leads to a corridor next to the bar. Go through it and follow the hallway. You will need to climb over some platforms. This will bring you close enough to Pike again to complete the hack. You can see him through a window at one point in this section.
Alternatively, you can use a Dart to poison the guard blocking the path and walk straight through into the restricted area to finish hacking the phone.
What to Do After Hacking Pike’s Phone
Once the phone hack is complete, head back to the balcony and speak with Cressida. She will update you on the next steps.
Find a Private Room for Pike
Go to the staircase and enter the Staff Only room. Move into the next room and locate a suitable private space for Joshua. Once you have found it, head back to Pike on the dance floor balcony and speak with him. Your goal is to lead him into that isolated room. Once he is inside, jam the door to keep things secure. Then head back to the stairs and speak with Cressida again.
Find Pike’s Contact
Now head to the Stamp Counter’s backroom and look for Pike’s contact. Speak with her. The red-dressed woman will interrupt this conversation too — she just doesn’t quit.
To get through this smoothly, follow this dialogue approach when speaking with the contact:
- Let the contact speak first without rushing the dialogue.
- When the red-dressed woman interrupts, use a calm deflecting response to dismiss her.
- Return focus to the contact and use the Convince prompt when it appears.
After you nail the dialogue, the contact will call her handler. That triggers the final stage of the mission.
Finishing the Mission: The Fight and Extraction
After the contact makes the call, you need to move to the extraction point by following the objective marker. A brawl breaks out near the exit. You and Monroe will have to take on several enemies in a fistfight.
Use your parry skills here to avoid damage and chain combos to build Instinct. Defeating all the enemies wraps up the “A Night Out” chapter. This marks the beginning of Chapter 7: A Matter of Considerable Delicacy.

Tips for the Joshua Pike Investigation
- Build Instinct during the bathroom fight. Parrying and landing combos there gives you Instinct you can use later to bluff through dialogue options.
- Use the Q-Lens often. It highlights objectives and helps you track Pike in crowded areas.
- Don’t worry if Pike bumps into you. He won’t get suspicious during the phone hack, so stay calm and keep following.
- The Dart gadget is very useful. It saves time when guards are blocking key paths during the hack phase.
- Save the “Play Along” prompt for the red-dressed woman. It resolves her interruption fast so you don’t lose track of Pike.
