Florida will not show its name on your map until you visit it, but it will already appear as a palm tree icon — the standard symbol for small unmapped islands — even before you have been there. You do not need to have discovered it previously to sail directly there. Set your waypoint and go.
The island is small and has no enemies to fight when you land. Your only two tasks here are to sync the Viewpoint and then find the underwater chest.
Step-by-Step Walkthrough — Getting the Gold Locket
Step 1 — Arrive at Florida Island (381, 797)
Sail northeast from Havana. When you arrive at Florida island, anchor the Jackdaw and get onto the island. There is no naval combat here — the waters around Florida are calm and free of hostile ships.
Step 2 — Sync the Viewpoint
Before you do anything else, find and synchronize the Viewpoint on Florida island. This is the single most important step that many players skip.
Without syncing the Viewpoint, the collectibles and secrets on the island — including the Gold Locket chest — will not appear as icons on your map. You will be diving blindly around the coastline looking for something you cannot see. Sync first, then the chest icon will show up clearly on your map.
Climb to the Viewpoint, synchronize, and look at your updated map before continuing.
Step 3 — Dive to the Underwater Chest on the West Side
After syncing, you will see a chest icon in the water on the west side of Florida island. Head to the western beach and dive in.
The Gold Locket is inside a sunken shipwreck sitting on the seabed at the beach on the west side of the island. Swim down to the wreck and open the chest. The Gold Locket is added to your inventory automatically.
The dive is not deep and there are no sharks or hazards here — it is a straightforward swim down to the wreck. Watch your oxygen meter as you search, but the chest is close enough to the surface that running out of air is not a real concern.
Step 4 — Grab the Second Nearby Chest
While you are in the water, there is a second underwater chest nearby that holds additional Reales. It is worth grabbing while you are already diving — it takes only a few extra seconds and you will not need to come back. Check your map after syncing and you will see both chest icons in the water close together on the west side.
Florida also has other collectibles worth picking up while you are here. The island has six collectibles in total: one Viewpoint, two chests (including the Gold Locket), two Secrets, and one Data File. The Secrets include a common cutlass in a chest on the south of the island and a message in a bottle in the north. If you are going for full island completion, knock all of these out now rather than making a return trip.
Step 5 — Fast Travel Back to Havana
Once you have the Gold Locket, the fastest way back is to use fast travel. Open your map, select Havana, and travel back instantly. If you prefer to sail back, that works fine too — the journey is short.
Step 6 — Return the Locket to the Woman at the Eastern Docks
Back in Havana, head to the eastern docks where you first spoke to the grieving woman. She will be in the same spot. Talk to her and hand over the Gold Locket.
Edward tells her what he found. She receives the closure she was looking for. The quest completes.
Gold Locket Quest Reward
For completing the quest you receive 200 Reales. That is not a huge sum, but early in Sequence 3 every bit of money helps — especially if you are saving up for Jackdaw upgrades.
The real value of this quest is getting you to Florida island early, because it is an area with solid loot and collectibles that many players do not discover until much later. The second underwater chest alone gives you additional Reales on top of the quest reward, and clearing all six collectibles on the island ticks off part of your completion tracker for the Dry Tortuga region.

Common Reasons Players Cannot Find the Quest or the Locket
The woman does not appear at the docks
You have not yet completed the Prize and Plunder mission in Sequence 3. This is the unlock gate for the quest. Go back to the main story, finish that mission, then return to Havana’s eastern docks.
The chest does not appear on the map at Florida
You skipped the Viewpoint sync. The Gold Locket chest is a secret collectible and will not appear on your map until you synchronize the Florida Viewpoint. Climb the Viewpoint, sync it, then check your map for the chest icon in the water to the west.
Searching the wrong side of the island
The underwater chest is on the west side of Florida island, not the south or east. A lot of players explore the beaches and ruins on the wrong side and come up empty. After syncing the Viewpoint, let the map guide you to the correct location rather than exploring on foot.
Going to the western Havana docks instead of the eastern ones
The grieving woman is on the eastern docks. If you are walking along the western waterfront and seeing nothing, you are on the wrong side of the city. Cross to the east.
Looting the chest but not returning to Havana
Picking up the Gold Locket does not complete the quest automatically. You have to physically go back to the woman and hand it over. The quest stays open in your log until you do.
Other Things to Do at Florida Island
Since you are making the trip out to Florida anyway, it is worth doing everything on the island in one visit. Here is a quick rundown of all six collectibles:
- Viewpoint: Sync this first — it unlocks all the other collectible icons on the island.
