How to Start the Sage’s Buried Secret

The mission begins automatically during Sequence 4 after completing Nothing is True. Follow James Kidd through the temple ruins and listen to his dialogue as you go. After a short parkour section, the path collapses just after James jumps across. You don’t need to backtrack. Climb the wall on the left side and use the tree roots and collapsed stonework to cross the gap and rejoin Kidd on the other side. From here the first puzzle chamber is just ahead.

Puzzle 1 — The Red Mechanism

The first puzzle is the simplest of the three and acts as a warm-up. When you enter the first chamber, you’ll see a red statue raised above a slot in the floor.

Here’s what to do:

• Climb the wall on the left side of the room.
• Interact with the red hanging mechanism by standing on it or hanging from it. Either works fine.
• Edward’s weight will lower the red statue into its slot in the floor.
• The first door opens. Follow Kidd through it.

That’s all there is to it. The game is just teaching you the basic mechanic — your weight on a counterweight lowers the corresponding statue. Keep following Kidd into the next chamber for the second puzzle.

Puzzle 2 — The Rotating Platform

The second room introduces a new element: a rotating circular platform in the center of the chamber. The platform has colored sections — red, blue, and green — and you need to align the right color under the right statue before lowering it. There’s a lever/wheel in the center that you and Kidd can use to spin the platform.

Follow these steps exactly:

• Interact with the center wheel and spin the platform until the red section faces the left side of the chamber.
• Climb the left wall and use the hanging mechanism to lower the red statue into the red slot. One door opens.
• Now lower the blue statue into its correct position using the same method — the blue section should now line up correctly.
• Both doors open and you can proceed.

The tricky part here is knowing which direction to spin the wheel. If you go the wrong way, just keep spinning until the colors line up — the platform loops around. Don’t panic and don’t try to force it.

The Underwater Section Between Puzzles

After clearing the second puzzle room, the next chamber is broken and flooded. Jump into the large hole with Kidd and swim through the flooded tunnels. This section teaches you about air pockets — small gaps above the waterline where Edward can catch his breath.

• Keep close to James Kidd — he leads you through the tunnels efficiently.
• Watch the blue air meter on screen. When it gets low, find an air pocket and surface briefly to refill.
• Don’t rush. Take your time with the air pockets and you’ll get through without issue.

After swimming through, climb up the structure on the other side to reach the top of the temple. The third and final puzzle is waiting at the top.

Puzzle 3 — The Final Statue Puzzle (Blue, Red, Green)

This is the one that trips most players up. When you arrive at the top of the temple, you’ll find three statues — blue, red, and green — but two of them are already lowered into the wrong colored slots. The green statue is still raised, but the only slot currently available is the wrong color. You need to sort all three out in the correct order.

The key is to do this in sequence: Blue first, then Red, then Green.

Step 1 — Fix the Blue Statue

• Climb onto the counterweight to the left of the blue statue. Your weight raises the blue statue out of the wrong slot.
• Grab the center wheel with Kidd and spin the platform until the blue section is directly under the blue statue.
• Climb onto the blue statue and use your weight to lower it into the blue slot. First door opens.

Step 2 — Fix the Red Statue

• Spin the center wheel again until the red section on the platform is under the green statue. This also moves the red statue to the position the blue one was just in.
• Use the counterweight on the left wall to raise the red statue out of the wrong slot.
• Spin the platform again so the red section is now under the red statue.
• Lower the red statue into the correct red slot. Second door opens.

Step 3 — Fix the Green Statue

• Rotate the platform counterclockwise one more time until the green section lines up with the green statue.
• Climb onto the green statue and use your weight to lower it into the green slot. Third door opens.

Once all three statues are in their matching colored slots and all three doors are open, a cutscene plays. Edward and James Kidd reach the hidden chamber they’ve been looking for. The Sage’s Buried Secret mission is complete and the story continues from here.

What If the Puzzle Is Already Partially Moved?

If you’ve already started moving pieces around before reading this guide, there’s no reset button. You can’t reload the puzzle to its original state unless you load a previous save. In that case, don’t panic — focus on getting one statue into its correct colored slot first. Once one is correct, the remaining positions become much clearer. Work through it one at a time and the solution will become more obvious as you go.

Completing The Sage’s Buried Secret advances the main story and deepens the lore around the Observatory. It’s a pivotal moment in Edward’s arc — one of the first times the game makes clear just how significant the stakes are. After this point, the game opens up considerably.
