Can I Play Mistfall Hunter Solo? Solo Mode, Best Classes and Tips Explained

    TL;DR

    • Yes — you can play Mistfall Hunter solo from the very start.
    • Solo is NOT offline or PvE-only. You still share the map with other players.
    • Hallowgrove (the first map) supports solo matchmaking on Normal and Chaos difficulty.
    • Brandrgarde (the second map) is currently trio-only — but Solo Mode is confirmed for September 2026.
    • Best solo classes are Shadowstrix, Mercenary, Blackarrow, and Sorcerer.
    • Seer is the weakest solo class — its heals are wasted without teammates.
    • If you die before extracting, you lose all your loot — solo runs carry real risk.

Can I Play Mistfall Hunter Solo?

Can I play Mistfall Hunter solo? Yes — you can queue into a run alone right from the start of the game, and you are never forced to form a squad. Solo play is available from the very beginning. The opening tutorial and the first Hallowgrove expedition are completed entirely solo before three-player parties unlock, and the solo option never disappears.

But there is something important to understand before you jump in. Solo is not offline and not PvE-only. Every solo run still shares the map with rival Gyldhunters, so it is generally harder than squad play — no backup, third-party risk, and certain content that scales for trios. If you want to understand how the game works before going in alone, our Mistfall Hunter best tips and tricks guide has everything you need to survive your first runs.

What Does Solo Play Actually Mean in Mistfall Hunter?

Solo is a matchmaking and squad-size choice inside a PvPvE extraction game, not a private offline or PvE-only campaign. When you are playing solo, you make route, loot, fight, and extraction decisions alone. Other players and PvE threats remain part of the game.

This is a crucial distinction. Mistfall Hunter is built around a shared online world where every session puts you in the same map as other players. Going in alone just means you have no teammates to back you up when things go wrong — and things will go wrong.

Solo play in Mistfall Hunter does not mean offline or PvE only. The game is built around online PvPvE extraction gameplay, meaning if you do choose to take on the journey alone, the odds will be stacked against you.

    Which Maps Support Solo Play?

This is where solo players need to pay close attention, because not all maps treat solo the same way.

    Hallowgrove — Solo Friendly

Hallowgrove is the starting map and it fully supports solo matchmaking. Hallowgrove has no shrinking zone, making it the more forgiving region for solo exploration. You can run Normal and Chaos difficulty here alone without any issues. This is the best map for solo players to learn the game, farm Gyldenblod, and build up their class before attempting harder content.

Brandrgarde — Currently Trio-Only, Solo Coming in September

Brandrgarde is the second map and this is where solo players have run into frustration. Brandrgarde is trio-only, and parts of the main quest chain route through it — the loudest complaint about the game. Right now, solo players cannot queue into a proper solo matchmaking session on this map.

The good news is that this is changing. Solo Mode for Brandrgarde is coming in mid-September during Season 1 for Normal and Cataclysm difficulties following community feedback. This was officially confirmed by Bellring Games after the game surpassed one million players in its first week.

Bellring Games confirmed they will be introducing Solo Mode for both the Normal and Cataclysm difficulties of Brandrgarde in the middle of Season 1 in September, though they noted that adding two new modes will inevitably split the matchmaking queue and present fresh class balance challenges in solo play.

In the meantime, there is a workaround some players are using. You can enter Brandrgarde alone by queueing trio with fill slots turned off, or with randoms with fill on. This is not an official solo experience, but it is an option if you need to progress through Brandrgarde content while waiting for the September update.

Is There a PvE-Only Mode in Mistfall Hunter?

Not yet. A pure PvE-only mode remains a roadmap item without a release date. Bellring Games has acknowledged that not all players enjoy being hunted by other players, and they have pointed to powerful PvE bosses as a way for those players to engage without focusing on PvP — but a fully separate PvE-only experience is not available as of the August 2026 launch.

If you want to minimize PvP encounters while playing solo right now, your best strategy is to play smart — stick to the edges of the map, avoid contested loot zones, extract early, and pick a class that lets you control engagements on your terms. More on that below.

Is Solo Play Harder Than Playing in a Squad?

Yes — significantly. When you play in a squad, your teammates cover your weaknesses. If you get caught mid-loot or overwhelmed by enemies, a teammate can bail you out. Going solo means every decision falls on you.

When you are playing solo, it is all on you. You need decent damage, a way to handle multiple enemies at once without getting overwhelmed, defensive options, good mobility, and enough survivability to recover from mistakes.

There is also the loot-loss risk to consider. If you die before extracting, you lose everything you picked up during that run. This applies to everyone, but the risk is higher when you have no teammates to revive you or help fight off attackers near extraction.

Some story objectives also scale for trios. Several players report that some story objectives — such as killing the boss Otto, the Flesheater — are effectively impossible solo because monsters and mobs scale for trios. This is one of the main reasons Brandrgarde Solo Mode has been so heavily requested by the community.

Best Classes for Solo Play in Mistfall Hunter

Class choice matters a lot when you are going in alone. You need a class that can handle both PvE enemies and unexpected PvP encounters without relying on teammates. Here is how each class stacks up for solo play.

Shadowstrix — Best for Solo PvP and Stealth

    shadowstrix mistfall hunter
    shadowstrix mistfall hunter

The Shadowstrix sits at the absolute top of the solo meta because it offers the one thing isolated players need most: control over engagements. Without teammates to watch your back, you can survive entirely by dictating when a fight happens. The rogue-inspired kit lets you bypass tough elite mobs, safely scout extraction points, and instantly disengage if you are ambushed.

Its stealth ability lets you become invisible to reposition or escape. It has strong burst damage and excellent mobility tools like Smoke Bomb and Phantom Shift. The downside is that Shadowstrix is less effective against PvE bosses compared to tankier classes. Check out our Shadowstrix guide for the full build breakdown.

Mercenary — Best for Solo Beginners

Choose Mercenary when you want the safest and most consistent solo experience. It is the strongest starting point for learning Mistfall Hunter and remains useful once you become more comfortable with PvP, bosses, and extraction routes.

The Mercenary is the best class for solo players who are new because it has a strong survival kit, good mobility, and decent durability. It can switch between a Sword and Shield for defence and a Hammer for heavy damage, giving you options depending on what you are fighting. It is not the flashiest choice but it is the most forgiving when things go wrong. See our Mercenary guide for tips on builds and weapon stance choices.

Blackarrow — Best for Ranged Solo Play

Blackarrow is good at both PvP and PvE while dishing out constant damage from afar. A good Blackarrow will kite melee players to death. This class thrives when it can keep enemies at range. It uses traps, charged arrows, and special projectiles to control space and punish enemies who try to close the gap.

The main weakness is that solo consistency drops sharply when an enemy reaches melee range. Playing Blackarrow solo means using terrain and elevation to your advantage. See our Blackarrow guide for the best abilities and positioning strategies.

Sorcerer — High Damage, High Risk

Sorcerer is potentially the fastest solo killer, but its low durability makes positioning and escape management far more important. It is a strong option for players who are confident in their map knowledge and can stay out of dangerous situations. If you can control the fight from range, the Sorcerer dishes out enormous damage. If you get caught, you are in trouble. Our Sorcerer guide covers the best builds for solo runs.

Withered Knight — Good Boss Killer

Withered Knight is an excellent boss killer and aggressive melee class with strong parries, engagement tools, and burst damage. Ranged opponents can make disengaging difficult. It is a viable solo option when you are hunting bosses and want to force melee engagements on your terms, but it struggles against ranged players who can punish from a distance. Our Withered Knight guide has the details.

    Seer — Weakest Solo Class

The worst solo class is definitely Seer, as it has low damage output and its healing skills are wasted in solo play. The Seer is built around keeping teammates alive. Every healing ability it has is designed for squad support. When you are alone, all of that utility is wasted, and you are left with a class that cannot deal enough damage to compete. Save the Seer for group play. See our Seer guide for when and how it shines in trios.

Solo Survival Tips for Mistfall Hunter

Playing solo in Mistfall Hunter is absolutely doable, but it requires a different approach compared to squad play. These tips will help you stay alive and extract successfully on your own.

    Control When Fights Happen

In a squad, you can fight on less-than-ideal terms because teammates pick up the slack. Solo, you cannot afford that. Only engage enemies when you have the advantage — terrain, positioning, or a clear escape route. If a fight looks bad before it starts, walk away. Your ability to choose your battles is your biggest advantage over squads that have to coordinate every move.

Extract Earlier Than You Think You Should

The longer you stay in a match, the higher the chance that a squad is now hunting you. Solo players are easy targets for squads looking for a quick kill and free loot. If you have a solid haul, head to extraction well before the final minutes. The crowded endgame around extraction points is dangerous for everyone, but it is especially punishing when you have no teammates watching your back.

    Avoid Contested Loot Zones

High-value areas attract squads. As a solo player, running into a full three-person team at a golden Treasure Zone is almost always a death sentence. Stick to the outer edges of the map, look for containers that squads skip over, and build your haul from lower-risk loot rather than competing for the best spots.

    Keep Consumables Accessible

You have no healer. No one is going to throw a heal your way when you are at 20% health mid-fight. Keep healing consumables in an easy-to-reach slot and use them before you think you need to, not after. Running dry on heals in a solo run is one of the most common ways players die when they were otherwise playing well.

    Use Replaceable Gear While Learning

Do not bring your best gear into a solo run on a map or route you have not tested before. If the run goes wrong and you die, you lose everything. Test new areas with gear you can afford to lose, then scale up once you know the route and the enemy patterns. This is especially important on Brandrgarde until the solo mode arrives in September.

Upgrade Your Camp to Support Solo Runs

Failed solo runs will happen. The Gyldenblod Pool upgrade reduces how painful those losses feel by letting you carry more currency out per successful extraction. The camp warehouse upgrade also helps by making sure a bad run does not wipe out all your stored resources. Build these early so a string of bad solo sessions does not send you backwards in progression.

Is There a Duo Queue in Mistfall Hunter?

No — and one is not planned in the short term. The game lacks a true Duo Mode right now, with the only similar option being queueing as a Duo in Trio Mode, which puts players at a disadvantage. If you and a friend want to play together without a third person, you will be placed into trio matchmaking and may face full three-player squads.

This is worth knowing if you are planning to play with one other person. You can still do it, but expect to be outnumbered in PvP encounters until the game adds a dedicated duo queue.

What Is Coming for Solo Players?

Mistfall Hunter’s roadmap has a lot of good news for players who prefer to go it alone.

September 2026, Season 1 Phase 2, includes Brandrgarde Solo Mode, more Story Quests, and the Underlord Speed Challenge. This is the biggest solo update on the horizon and addresses the most-requested feature since launch.

A pure PvE-only mode has also been discussed but has no confirmed release date yet. Bellring Games is aware that a portion of the playerbase wants to explore the Gyldenmist without being hunted by other players, and they have signalled this is something they are considering for the future.

If you want to stay updated on everything coming to the game, our Mistfall Hunter 1 million players free rewards and roadmap guide covers the full picture of what Bellring Games has announced.

Is Mistfall Hunter Worth Playing Solo Right Now?

Yes — with some caveats. Hallowgrove is fully playable solo and gives you everything you need to build up your class, earn Gyldenblod, and learn the game’s systems. The solo experience on that map is genuinely good, and many players find the risk of being hunted adds to the tension in a way that makes extraction feel more rewarding.

The Brandrgarde situation is the main friction point right now. If solo progression through the second map’s story content is important to you, you may find the current setup frustrating. That changes in September when solo matchmaking arrives for Brandrgarde on both Normal and Cataclysm difficulties.

For everything else you need to know about the game — platforms, crossplay with friends on different systems, and how to squad up — our Mistfall Hunter crossplay guide has all the details. And if you are still deciding which class to take into your first solo run, our best classes for beginners guide will point you in the right direction.
