TL;DR
- The Co-Director is found in The Unknown zone at the Patterned Field Office.
- You need to complete Pope’s Research and unlock the Gravity Wells before you can reach him.
- This fight has a Command meter that fills over time and kills Dylan instantly if it hits 100% — you cannot reduce it, so be aggressive from the start.
- Recommended Aberrant Power: 110 or above. He has the largest health pool of any Resonant.
- He stays airborne for most of the fight. Use the arena pillars to reach him.
- Kill turned Rangers immediately before they add extra pressure to the meter.
- When the ring contracts around him, back off. After the spin ends, punish hard — he stays exposed for several seconds.
- Reward: Command ability — no choice, just Command. It lets Dylan mind-control enemies in future fights.
The Co-Director is the last regional Resonant boss in Control Resonant. He is found in The Unknown zone, and he is unlike any other boss in the game. Every other Resonant lets you play patiently and wait for openings. The Co-Director punishes that entirely. This fight is a damage race with a ticking clock — and that clock cannot be reversed.
This guide covers how to reach him, how the mind-control meter works, every attack pattern across both phases, and the best strategy to beat him before time runs out.
Where to Find The Co-Director in Control Resonant
The Co-Director is located at the Patterned Field Office in The Unknown zone. He is the Unknown Resonant, and he is a late-game boss tied to story progression in that area.
You cannot reach him by just walking into The Unknown. Before the route to the Co-Director becomes available, you need to do two things:
- Progress the main story into Sever the Hedron Links — this opens The Unknown zone via the Oldest House Roof Access.
- Advance Pope’s Research far enough to unlock the Gravity Wells. These wells are how Dylan island-hops across The Unknown. Without them, you cannot reach the Field Office island where the boss waits.
Once those conditions are met, open the Quest Log and track The Unknown Resonant under Defeating Resonants. The starting objective is Answer the Distress Call in the Unknown.
How to Reach The Co-Director Arena
The path to The Co-Director involves some environmental puzzles and enemy encounters. Here is what to expect on the way:
- Locate Unknown 7 on the map and follow the activated Gravity Well marker into the Unknown zone.
- Use the Gravity Wells to island-hop north toward the Field Office. The Unknown’s layout shifts, so stick to the wells and follow Zoe’s contact prompts rather than exploring freely.
- Clear hostile entities from the garage and warehouse area at street level. A second wave enters through the doorway alongside the FBC Rangers — defeat them too.
- Head upstairs and speak with the Ranger. Choose either dialogue option — both lead to the doors opening.
- Enter the gate control room and continue through the route it unlocks.
- Activate the Patterned Field Office fast travel door along the way to shorten any retry trips if needed.
- At the top of the Field Office, hold the on-screen interaction prompt to trigger the cutscene and start the boss fight.
Once you interact with that prompt, the fight begins. Make sure you are fully prepared before you do.

How to Prepare for The Co-Director Boss Fight
This is not a boss you want to walk into under-leveled. A few things to lock in before the fight:
- Aberrant Power 110 or above: This is the minimum recommended level. The Co-Director has the largest health pool of any Resonant. Below 110, the fight drags long enough that the Command meter fills before the boss goes down.
- High damage output above everything: This fight rewards pure damage. If your build leans heavily on summons, be careful — The Co-Director can seize control of your summons and turn them against you. Summons with lower health are less costly to lose if that happens.
- A full Combat Ability kit: Since the Co-Director is the last regional Resonant before the finale, try to have as many of your abilities unlocked as possible before entering the fight. Clear other Resonants first if you have not.
- Fast travel door open: Activate the Patterned Field Office fast travel door on the way in. If you die and need to retry, you will be glad you did this.

The Co-Director Mind-Control Meter Explained
This is the mechanic that defines the entire fight. The moment the Co-Director encounter starts, a Command meter begins to fill on your screen. You need to understand it before anything else:
- The meter rises passively over time throughout the fight — even if you take zero damage.
- It spikes hard whenever the Co-Director’s attacks connect with you. His purple beam and bombs accelerate it the fastest.
- The meter cannot be reduced at any point. It only goes up.
- If the meter reaches 100%, it is an instant game over for Dylan — no second chance.
This is why patient, conservative play that works on every other Resonant is a losing strategy here. Waiting for perfect openings costs meter time. You need to push damage consistently throughout the fight, not just when things feel completely safe.
The good news: when you fully stagger The Co-Director into a Falter state, he takes roughly double damage. Landing at least one solid Falter window significantly reduces the time you need to beat him.
The Co-Director Boss Fight: Phase 1
The Co-Director starts the fight airborne and stays there for almost the entire encounter. He rarely comes down to ground level, so you need to use the arena’s pillars and jump to reach him for melee combos.
Opening: The Ranger Beam
The very first thing The Co-Director does is fire his control beam at some of the Rangers escorting you into the arena. Two Rangers immediately turn hostile. Your first priority — before attacking the boss at all — is to kill those two converted Rangers immediately. Every hostile Ranger still alive adds extra pressure while the meter climbs.
The friendly Rangers still in the arena will often handle some of the turned enemies on their own, but do not rely on that. Sprint over and clean them up yourself, then pivot directly to the boss.
The Co-Director Attack Patterns
His attack set in Phase 1 is manageable once you know what to look for:
- Ranged projectiles: The Co-Director prefers to keep his distance and fires regular ranged projectiles throughout the fight. These are the easiest of his attacks to dodge — standard sidesteps work fine.
- Purple beam: This is his most dangerous attack. The glowing purple beam tracks Dylan and deals massive health damage if it connects. It also spikes the Command meter significantly. Dodge this sideways when you see it coming — do not dodge straight backward along the beam’s path.
- Spinning ring attack: When you get close to the Co-Director and pressure him, his outer ring of Rangers contracts around his body and then spins outward. This is your cue to back off immediately. The ring sweeps out and deals heavy damage. The key detail: after the spin ends, the Co-Director stays exposed for several seconds. This is one of your best windows to commit damage. Get back in fast and unload.
- Ground slam: Occasionally the Co-Director raises his arms above his head — this signals a slam attack coming down. Move away from him before the ring crashes into the ground.
The Co-Director Boss Fight: Phase 2
Once the Co-Director loses around 30 to 40 percent of his health, the fight escalates.
Upgraded Spin Attack
His spinning ring attack gets a significant upgrade. The Co-Director now tightens the ring and charges directly at Dylan while spinning rapidly. This version of the attack lasts much longer and can follow you around the arena. The only thing to do here is keep running until the entire spin completely ends. Do not try to attack during this — just survive it, then punish once it stops.
More Rangers Enter the Arena
At around 50 percent health, a fresh group of Rangers appears in the arena. This looks helpful, but they are primarily fodder for The Co-Director’s beam. As soon as you see the boss aim his beam at one of these Rangers, run over and kill that Ranger immediately before they flip. A controlled Ranger firing at you while you are trying to attack the boss is exactly the kind of extra damage that accelerates the Command meter.
Rocket Attack from the Outer Ring
Later in the fight, some Rangers positioned on the outer edge of the ring will start firing rockets in groups of three at Dylan. Watch for them popping out from the ring and dodge the incoming missiles. After the rocket volley ends, return to the boss quickly.
The Co-Director gains no new attacks beyond this. His move set is now set. Keep the pressure on, manage the Rangers, and push his health bar down before the meter fills.
The Final Falter and Execution
When The Co-Director’s health bar empties, you get the execution prompt. Hit it to finish the fight. Use the Falter window whenever you stagger him during the fight — his doubled damage intake during stagger is how you win this fight efficiently, especially at lower Aberrant Power levels.
The Co-Director Boss Fight Tips
- Always kill turned Rangers before attacking the boss at the start of the fight.
- Dodge the purple beam sideways — never straight back.
- When the ring contracts, back off immediately. Return and attack after the spin ends.
- During Phase 2’s rapid spinning charge, keep running. Do not try to force damage through it.
- When you see the boss beam aimed at a Ranger, sprint over and kill that Ranger before they flip.
- Prioritize the boss over everything else once Rangers are handled. The meter is always climbing.
- Summon-heavy builds need extra care — the Co-Director can seize your summons and send them against you.
- Trigger Falter as often as possible for the doubled damage window.
- Play aggressively every time a safe window opens. Waiting costs meter time.
The Co-Director Reward: Command Ability
Unlike every other Resonant in Control Resonant, The Co-Director does not give you a choice between two abilities. Defeating him unlocks a single, fixed reward: Command.
Command lets Dylan mind-control an enemy and temporarily turn them into an ally during combat. It is particularly strong against elite enemies and works well in chaotic multi-enemy situations. This makes it a strong ability heading into the final stretch of the game, where enemy encounters get more complex.
You also unlock the Untapped 1996 Commemorative Coin artifact from this fight. And if The Co-Director is your sixth and final Resonant, you unlock the Casual Outfit: Resonants cosmetic reward for clearing all six Resonants.
Is The Co-Director Required for Story Progression?
The Co-Director is not required to beat the main story in the same way The Dancer and The Deserter are. However, he is the last regional Resonant before Hedron, the final story boss. Beating him gives you Command before entering the finale — and having a full Combat Ability loadout going into the last fight is a meaningful advantage.
The recommended boss order for a full playthrough is: The Artist → The Dancer → The Deserter → The Collective → The Physicist → The Co-Director → Hedron. For a full overview, see our Control Resonant: all bosses and where to find them guide.
