Control Resonant: The Dancer Boss Guide – How to Beat Her

    By Sacheen · September 29, 2026 · 10 min read
Control Resonant Boss 2 The Dancer

    TL;DR

    • The Dancer is found in the Theater Hall in the West Incursion Zone.
    • You need the Shift traversal ability before you can reach her — get it from The Incursion Fault in the Parking Garage.
    • She has two phases. Don’t be caught off guard when she comes back after her first health bar drops.
    • The key rule: wait for her attacks to finish, then punish the recovery window. Never spam combos mid-fight.
    • When the stage flashes blue, that’s your Falter window — commit damage and execute to end the fight.
    • Reward choice: Ground Slam for big damage and combo openers; Push for crowd control and spacing.

The Dancer is one of the more intense boss fights in Control Resonant. She lives up to her name — constant movement, theatrical attack strings, and two full health bars to drain. If you try to fight her the same way you fight regular enemies, she will punish you fast.

This guide covers exactly where to find her, how to reach her, all her attack patterns, and the best strategy for both phases. We’ll also break down which Combat Ability reward to pick once she’s done.

Where to Find The Dancer in Control Resonant

    the dancer location

The Dancer is located in the Theater Hall in the West Incursion Zone. You can actually see the Theater building from the street the moment you enter this zone, but you cannot walk straight to her. The path is blocked until you have a key traversal ability.

Before you go anywhere near the Theater, you need to complete The Incursion Fault quest in the Parking Garage. This quest rewards you with the Shift ability, which lets Dylan navigate the rotated surfaces and gravity anomalies inside the zone. Without Shift, every route into the Theater is a dead end.

Once you have Shift, here is how to get to the fight:

    • Look for the “Rescue Teams?” marker on the map and inspect the eye icon on the Theater across the gap to activate the West Incursion Zone Resonant quest.
    • Jump to the left platform and use Shift onto the ceiling.
    • Make the balcony jump to the scaffold on the side of the building.
    • Follow the path until you reach the red EMPIRE sign.
    • Take the subway tunnel to the left of it.
    • Head to the stage at the far north end of the Theater.
    • Walk through the rip in the stage curtain. As you step onto the stage, the fight starts immediately — no cutscene warning.

Make sure you are ready before you step through that curtain. If you want to check what other bosses are in the game and the best order to fight them, see our full Control Resonant all bosses guide.

How to Prepare for The Dancer Boss Fight

A little prep goes a long way before entering the Theater. Here is what to do before the fight:

    • Aberrant Strength 30+: Most players recommend being at around Aberrant Strength 30 before this fight. Any lower and you will find the battle drags out too long.
    • Perfect Dodge skills: Any talents that reward you for landing a Perfect Dodge or punish enemies when you dodge successfully are very useful here. The Dancer telegraphs her attacks before committing, so perfect dodges are realistic.
    • Drill secondary weapon: The Drill is a strong pick for this fight if you have it upgraded. It can apply the Weaken status, which boosts the damage you deal to the boss.
    • Assist Mode: If you are still getting comfortable with the melee timing in Control Resonant, turn on Assist Mode before entering the arena. There is no shame in it. You can check all available options in our Control Resonant Assist Mode settings guide.

For general tips on building your character before taking on tough bosses, our Control Resonant beginner tips cover a lot of the fundamentals worth knowing.

The Dancer Boss Fight: Phase 1

As soon as you step onto the stage, The Dancer activates and comes right at you. She is fast, aggressive, and moves constantly. Here is the most important thing to understand early:

Do not attack first. Let her come to you.

Most of her danger comes from players swinging too early or chaining full combos. She chains her attacks together, so if you swing mid-combo, you will eat a hit. Use short bursts of damage during her recovery windows instead of committing to long attack strings.

The Dancer Attack Patterns in Phase 1

The Dancer uses three main attacks you need to watch for:

    • Double-handed forward lunge / pounce: She stretches her arms out and lunges forward in an almost pouncing motion. This attack can also chain into more follow-up strikes, so keep moving until the full sequence is done before you go back in. This can be dodged by moving left or right, and she pauses briefly after it.
    • Spinning dash: The Dancer extends her limbs and spins while moving across the stage. This attack covers far more ground than you might expect. If you dodge once and immediately start hitting, you can still get clipped by the tail end of the animation. Wait for the spin to fully stop, then punish with a couple of strikes.
    • Stationary spin: Sometimes she spins in place rather than dashing across the arena. Use Rush to reposition yourself behind her when she does this and land a quick hit.

Her attack movements are theatrical and can look like normal dancing animations at first. This is intentional. Train yourself to watch her movement, not her health bar. Wait for the actual committed strike at the end of each sequence before you react.

How to Deal Damage in Phase 1

The rhythm is simple in theory: dodge the end of an attack string, then get in two or three hits before backing off. Repeat until her first health bar empties.

Keep these rules in mind while you do it:

    • Always dash away from a slam or lunge, never into her.
    • Move laterally rather than retreating straight backward — sweeping attacks travel along the retreat line, so diagonal movement keeps you safer.
    • Standing still at any point is dangerous. Her attacks are wide enough to catch you even behind cover.
    • When her health drops and small enemies (minions) appear on stage, use them for health. Sprint over, execute one, and immediately return to the boss.

When the stage lights dim and The Dancer is surrounded in blue light, that is your Falter window. Commit your damage here and land the execution. That ends Phase 1.

The Dancer Boss Fight: Phase 2 (The Encore)

Do not put your controller down. Just when you think the fight is over, The Dancer gets back up for a second phase — or an “encore,” as it fits her theme perfectly. Her full health bar resets.

Phase 2 keeps most of the same attack patterns from Phase 1, so you are not learning a completely new fight. But she adds one new dangerous mechanic:

The Aerial Attack and Puppet Projectiles

When The Dancer launches into the air, she multiplies her limbs and sends two puppet-like figures from the audience audience flying toward you, then she dives straight back down to the stage.

Do not stand directly underneath her during this. It makes the incoming projectiles harder to see and makes it difficult to judge exactly where she will land. Instead:

    • Create some space and keep both The Dancer and the stage in your field of view at the same time.
    • Deal with the incoming puppets when necessary.
    • Wait for her to return to the ground before getting back into melee range.
    • Dash to the side of the stage rather than running straight back.

If you have any ranged or explosive abilities equipped, Phase 2 is a good time to use them during her aerial phase when melee range is not an option.

    Phase 2 Strategy

The core strategy does not change: avoid first, punish the recovery. Phase 2 just has more going on at once. Stay calm, keep moving, and chip away steadily.

There is also a spotlight mechanic in the later part of Phase 2. A big spotlight hovers over the fight. You want to stay inside the spotlight when fighting The Dancer. A flickering light warns you when you are drifting outside it. As the fight nears its end, the spotlight intensifies.

When the stage flashes blue again and The Dancer is wrapped in blue light for the second time, that is your final Falter window. Hit hard, land the execution, and the fight is over for good.

Which Reward Should You Choose: Push or Ground Slam?

After defeating The Dancer, you can choose one of two new Combat Abilities. Here is what each one does:

    • Push: Sends enemies flying backward. Can knock them off ledges and into environmental hazards for bonus damage. Lower power cost (~200 Power). Good for crowd control, maintaining space, and repositioning enemies mid-fight.
    • Ground Slam: Slams enemies into the ground. Damage scales up when executed from a higher position, so pair it with a double jump or air boost for a big opener. Higher power cost (~630 Power). Better for aggressive melee builds and big burst damage moments.

For most players, especially on a first run, Ground Slam is the stronger practical pick. It deals significantly more damage and works well as a fight opener or finisher. You can jump up before using it to increase the hit.

Push is the better pick if you prefer playing at range, like to use environmental hazards in fights, or want a cheap ability to reposition enemies quickly.

The good news: you can respec your abilities later. Head to The Gap Mural and use a Reset Item to swap your choice if you change your mind. Check our guide on how to respec in Control Resonant for more on that.

Also worth noting: defeating The Dancer (along with The Deserter) is required to unlock the Enemy of My Enemy main story mission. So this is not an optional fight — it gates your story progress.

    The Dancer Boss Tips Summary

    • Get Shift from The Incursion Fault before trying to reach the Theater.
    • Be at Aberrant Strength 30+ before entering the fight.
    • Never attack mid-combo. Wait for her to finish, then punish with short bursts.
    • Move laterally, not backward, when dodging sweeping attacks.
    • For the spinning attack, wait for the full animation to end before hitting back.
    • In Phase 2, stay out from under her during the aerial attack and manage the two puppet projectiles from a distance.
    • Stay inside the spotlight in Phase 2’s later moments.
    • Falter window = stage flashes blue and she glows. This is your kill shot opportunity.
    • Pick Ground Slam for damage, Push for utility.
