Control Resonant: The Collective Boss Guide – How to Find and Beat It

    By Sacheen · September 29, 2026 · 8 min read
Control Resonant Boss 4 The Collective
    • The Collective is an optional boss found in The Park zone of Control Resonant.
    • You must eat four pieces of Delicious Mold at the Cafe, Gym, Minimart, and Pizzeria to open the Mold Gate.
    • The fight takes place across three arena planes — manage tentacles and minions before targeting weak points.
    • Use fire-based abilities like Ignite for maximum damage against this mold boss.
    • Beating The Collective gives you a choice between Spore Burst or Growth.
    • Be at least Aberrant Strength 65 before attempting this fight.

The Collective is one of the more creative boss fights in Control Resonant. It is fully optional, tucked away inside The Park zone, and it asks you to do something a little weird before you can even reach it — eat mold. Multiple times. This guide covers exactly how to find The Collective, how the fight works, which power to pick, and what tips will help you win without too much trouble.

    Before You Fight The Collective

Do not rush into The Park Resonant without the right tools. A little preparation goes a long way here.

    • Reach Aberrant Strength 65 before you attempt this fight. You need enough damage output to clear the fight’s multiple phases efficiently.
    • Defeat the Central Resonant first and unlock the Ignite ability. Fire damage absolutely wrecks mold enemies, and The Collective arena is full of them.
    • Complete the Incursion Fault and unlock the Shift ability. You need Shift to navigate the three-plane arena during the fight. Without it, you will be stuck.
    • Spend any unspent Talent Points in The Gap before entering. Points do nothing during the actual fight.

How to Find The Collective in Control Resonant

The Collective does not have a map marker you can just walk to. You have to unlock it first by eating four specific pieces of Delicious Mold scattered across The Park. Each piece you eat strengthens Dylan’s connection to the mysterious sealed gate at the bottom of the central sinkhole. Once you eat all four, the gate opens.

The Park is an optional zone accessed through The Park Checkpoint in the northeast corner of Central. You can enter once you complete the Jesse Sighting quest in the Evacuation Zone.

    All Four Delicious Mold Locations

Here is where to find every mold piece you need:

    • Cafe Mold (First piece): Go to the central pit area and look for the “New Mold Strains?” point of interest on your map. Drop into the sinkhole and enter the small cafe beside the gate. The Piece of Delicious Mold is sitting on a round table next to the counter. Eating this piece starts the quest “The Park Resonant” and marks the remaining three locations.
    • Gym Mold (Second piece): Head to the Gym location in The Park. Drop through the amber mold pit beneath the broken sign and enter the mold-coated office room. The second Delicious Mold piece is on the desk inside.
    • Minimart Mold (Third piece): Use your map to locate East Park Station east of Perimeter Station. Head toward the Minimart and consume the third piece of Delicious Mold found inside.
    • Pizzeria Mold (Fourth piece): Drop into the amber-filled alley to reach Baroni’s Pizza Place and eat the fourth Delicious Mold from the dining booth. Choose from the interaction prompts to complete the consumption.

After eating all four, your objective updates to “Kill the Resonant Behind the Mold Gate.” Retrace your steps back to the sinkhole where you found the first mold piece. The previously locked gate will now open. Head through it when you are ready.

How to Beat The Collective in Control Resonant

The Collective is a large, immobile Mold face with around 30,000 HP. The fight takes place across three connected arena planes. The boss itself is on the main central plane. The other two planes have tentacle arms and additional Mold enemies that spawn in to support the boss.

This is as much a crowd management fight as it is a straight-up boss fight. You cannot just tunnel damage into the main body and win. You need to work through the fight in clear phases.

Phase 1 — Clear the Tentacles

When the fight starts, tentacles will rise up on the outer planes. These are your first priority. Use your Shift ability to move between all three planes and take them down one by one.

Watch out for two main attacks during this phase:

    • Acidic mold projectiles: These are thrown from both the tentacles and the mold minions. They can even reach you across different planes, so always stay on the move.
    • Slam attacks: If you get too close to a tentacle, it will slam down on you. Use your traversal abilities to jump over these or dodge away. Do not stand still in tentacle range.

Small Mold enemies also appear between phases to add pressure. Clear them when you can — they apply the Infected status build-up over time if you let the spores hit you.

Phase 2 — Attack the Weak Points

Once all the tentacles are destroyed, head back to the main central plane. The Collective will reveal inflated eye-mouth-socket weak points on its body. These glow and are clearly visible. Focus all your fire on these points with your weapon and abilities.

This is the best time to use Ignite on your weapon for massive fire damage burst. Mold enemies are highly weak to fire, and The Collective is no different.

The fight then loops back to Phase 1. More tentacles spawn, more minions come in, and you clear them again before going back to the weak points. Keep repeating this rotation until the boss is low on health.

Phase 3 — Falter and Finish

Once The Collective is low enough on health, you will receive a prompt to Falter The Collective. Trigger it. This stuns the boss and lets you perform an Execution to finish the fight for good.

Key tips to remember throughout the whole fight:

    • Always clear tentacles before attacking the main body. Ignoring them makes the fight much harder.
    • Stay mobile at all times. The Collective poisons and shrinks the usable area as the fight goes on.
    • Use Ignite on your weapon whenever it is available. Fire damage is king here.
    • Keep Shift ready so you can rotate between planes quickly and efficiently.
    • Do not tunnel on the boss head when tentacles and minions are still active. You will get overwhelmed.

Which Ability Should You Pick After Beating The Collective?

After defeating The Collective, you head to The Gap and choose one of two new Mold-based Combat Abilities. Here is what each one does:

    • Spore Burst: Rapidly fire mold projectiles at a single target, building up the Infected status. Deals 16–158 damage per hit with 2–16 falter. Costs 200 power. Best for mid-range and ranged builds that want a burst damage option to weave into combos.
    • Growth: Summons a Mold Ally that independently shoots spores at enemies, building up Infected over time. Deals 9 damage per hit, 2 falter, with a cap of 2 Mold Allies. Costs 200 power. Best for melee-focused players who want another source of pressure while they engage up close.

The best pick depends on your playstyle. If you already chose Volatile Anomaly from The Artist, you have a deployable minion covered. In that case, Spore Burst gives you a new active damage tool instead of stacking another summon.

If you skipped Volatile Anomaly, Growth is the stronger pick. Having a Mold Ally gives enemies another target to focus on, applies Infected passively, and frees you up to play aggressively in melee. It also pairs extremely well with close-range weapon builds.

After the ability selection is confirmed, the quest completes. Your rewards include the Untapped Face Mask, +1 Reset Item, +3000 Source, and the Casual Outfit: Resonants. The trophy Insidious Growth will also pop once the quest is marked complete.
