Control Resonant: The Hedron Boss Guide – How to Beat the Final Boss

    control resonant final the hedron
    • The Hedron is the final story boss in Control Resonant, fought during the quest Fight to the Core.
    • It is not one of the six Resonants — it gives no Combat Ability choice after defeat.
    • The fight has three distinct phases, each in a different arena.
    • Hedron enemies resist Raw damage — always use your secondary attack, Fire, or Mold damage instead.
    • You do not attack The Hedron directly. You damage it by defeating the enemies it spawns, then grapple into the core to finish each phase.
    • Beating The Hedron rewards 5,000 Source, 1 Living Shard, 1 Reset Item, and the Untapped Worn Eraser artifact, plus two trophies.

The Hedron is the final obstacle standing between Dylan Faden and the end of Control Resonant. It sits outside the six Resonant boss checklist entirely — this is the story’s true climax, not a side encounter. If you have been working through the game in a good boss order, you should be well-equipped by the time you arrive here. This guide walks you through every phase of the fight, what attacks to expect, how to deal damage, and what you earn for finishing it.

    Before You Fight The Hedron

Before you dive into the final mission, take a moment to prepare. The Hedron fight is not the hardest encounter in the game, but going in underprepared makes it more frustrating than it needs to be.

    • Finish any unfinished Resonant fights first. Once you beat The Hedron, you enter the epilogue. If you want the Command ability from the Co-Director or any other boss reward, handle that now.
    • Spend all your Talent Points in The Gap. Points do nothing during boss fights. Use them before you head in.
    • Make sure your traversal abilities are unlocked. You need Rush, Shift, and Reach at minimum for Phase 3. These come from completing the Fault missions during the main story.
    • Swap off Raw damage builds. Hedron enemies resist Raw damage. Secondary attacks, Fire, and Mold damage all work much better here.
    • If you have a summon ability like Volatile Anomaly or Growth, bring it. Summons shred the Hedron’s enemy waves and can make this fight feel very easy.

How to Reach The Hedron in Control Resonant

The Hedron fight begins during the 12th main mission in the Contain the Crisis questline: Fight to the Core. You will have already worked through The Hedron Link mission and the Rebuild sequence before this point.

The battle takes place in the Unknown, on Manhattan’s far western edge. Dylan falls through a rotating tunnel of distorted architecture and lands on a suspended street platform facing the boss. The Patterned structures surrounding The Hedron have shifted just enough to give you a path to it. Follow the active objective marker — it leads you straight there.

Once you drop into the arena, the fight begins automatically. The Hedron hangs inside a bright circular vortex. The health bar appears at the top of the screen labeled THE HEDRON. You need to drain it completely across all three phases to finish the fight.

The Hedron Boss Fight: All Three Phases

The Hedron is not a boss you attack directly. Instead, it summons waves of enemies that are connected to it. Damaging those enemies drains the Hedron’s health bar. Once each health bar is depleted, you grapple into the core and strike it to end that phase, which triggers a short vision sequence before the next phase begins.

There are three phases in total. Each one uses a different arena and a different set of threats.

Phase 1 – Stay Close and Keep Attacking

The first phase is the most straightforward. You start on a rusty street-like platform directly below the Hedron. Yellow taxis and vehicles spiral around the core, and The Hedron fires basic projectiles in straight lines toward you.

The main things to watch for here:

    • Projectiles: The Hedron fires them in a straight line. Sidestep them as you move around the platform. You do not need to stop attacking to dodge these.
    • Summoned enemies: The Hedron sends out waves of enemies in two groups. Focus on taking them down quickly — every enemy you kill chips away at the health bar.

Stay near the center of the platform and keep the pressure on. This phase rewards aggression. Once the health bar empties, grapple onto the Hedron and strike the core. This drops you into a brief tunnel sequence where Dylan confronts the entity’s voice before Phase 2 begins.

Phase 2 – Avoid the Beams, Clear the Flying Enemies

Phase 2 is still set on the same rusty platform but things get busier. This is where the game flashes a warning: Hedron enemies are resistant to Raw damage. Switch to your secondary attack, Fire abilities, or Mold abilities for this phase and the rest of the fight. Basic melee strikes will barely scratch them.

    New threats appear here:

    • Flying Hedron enemies: Spiked flying entities gather near the core and attack you from range. These are the enemies you need to kill to drain the boss health. Prioritise them.
    • Laser beams: The Hedron fires white energy beams, sometimes single, sometimes in a pattern. They follow a clear sequence — watch one or two cycles before you start moving through them. Dodge sideways rather than running backward.
    • Vehicle ring: A rotating ring of vehicles closes around the arena. Keep track of where it is as you move so you do not get caught in it while focused on enemies.

Clear the flying enemies, learn the laser timing, and then push toward the core once it opens. Grapple in and strike it again for the second vision sequence.

Phase 3 – Platform Up to the Core

Phase 3 is the most movement-heavy. Dylan lands on a raised industrial structure with stairs and scattered furniture. The platform then begins to fracture and break apart as The Hedron rises up into the air above you. You now need to platform your way up to it.

Here is what you are dealing with in this phase:

    • Triple laser sweeps: The Hedron fires sweeping horizontal beams across the platforms in sets of three. Jump over them or time your movement between the gaps.
    • Hedron sphere groups: More Hedron enemy clusters spawn on the platforms. Take them out as you move up — they damage the health bar just like the previous phases.
    • Floating platforms: You need to use Shift and Reach to hop between broken sections of the arena to get close enough to the airborne core.

Plan each jump before you make it. Do not rush. Use your traversal abilities and pick clean landing lines. Once you reach the core, hit it one final time to trigger the last vision sequence. Dylan refuses the entity, drives his weapon into the core, and a massive energy discharge destroys The Hedron for good.

For tips on navigating tricky traversal sections, see our guide on the Subway Fault and Reach ability and how to reach the Unknown Resonant.

    Hedron Boss Attacks Summary

Here is a quick breakdown of every attack The Hedron uses across all three phases:

    • Straight-line projectiles: Fired directly at Dylan. Sidestep to avoid. Present in all phases.
    • Summon Foes: Enemy waves spawn in the arena. Killing them is how you damage the boss. Present in all phases.
    • Laser beams (Phase 2): White energy beams fired singly or in patterns. Learn the cycle and dodge sideways.
    • Triple laser sweeps (Phase 3): Horizontal sweeping beams across the platforms. Jump over them.
    • Flying Hedron enemies (Phase 2–3): Spiked aerial entities that resist Raw damage. Use elemental attacks.

Best Abilities to Use Against The Hedron

The Hedron fight rewards players who have built well across the game. Here are the best tools to bring:

    • Inferno or any fire-based ability: Hedron enemies are weak to elemental damage. Fire wrecks them.
    • Volatile Anomaly or Growth (summon abilities): These are exceptionally strong in this fight. Summons attack the enemy waves independently, letting you focus on movement and dodging. Many players report clearing the Hedron’s health bar extremely fast with summons active.
    • Shift and Reach: Essential for Phase 3 platform movement. Make sure these are unlocked before you enter.
    • Command (if unlocked): Available if you defeated the Co-Director beforehand. Very useful for controlling the battlefield during enemy waves.

    Rewards for Beating The Hedron

Because The Hedron is a story boss and not one of the six Resonants, you do not get a Combat Ability choice after the fight. Instead, you receive a set of end-game resources and two trophies:

    • 5,000 Source
    • 1 Living Shard
    • 1 Reset Item
    • Untapped Worn Eraser — one of the best artifacts in the game
    • Trophy (Gold): Graffiti Artist
    • Trophy (Bronze): Repeating, Refracting

After the rewards register, a Quest Completed banner appears for Fight to the Core. The game then rolls into the epilogue — The End, and then a post-finale quest called The Beginning. Dylan is returned to the Oldest House with the world open for anything you have left to complete, including the Gap Mural and any remaining Resonant fights.

What Happens After You Beat The Hedron

Beating The Hedron does not lock you out of the rest of the game. The epilogue gives you full access to continue side missions, collect remaining items, and finish off any Resonants you skipped. The six regional Resonants tied to the Gap Mural can still be completed in the post-game.
