Memory fragments are one of Crimson Desert’s most interesting mechanics. They let you witness events from the past — conversations, tragedies, secrets — playing out right in front of you as holograms. But the controls are a little unintuitive, and it is easy to miss a memory entirely if you are not paying attention.

How To Get the Visione Helmet

You cannot read any memory fragments until you have the Visione. This is a golden helmet that serves as a key story tool throughout the game.

You pick it up during the Memory Fragment quest in Chapter 2, which is part of the Unexpected Gift arc. The quest takes you to the Lioncrest Watchtower in the Hernand region. After clearing out the bandits and climbing to the top floor, you will find the Visione sitting on the ground. Walk up to it and hold the interact button to collect it.

How To Detect a Memory Fragment With Your Lantern

Before you can read a memory, you need to find it. Your lantern does the work here.

While you are exploring, watch your lantern carefully. When it starts to pulse with a blue glow, that means a memory fragment is somewhere nearby. This is your signal to slow down and start searching.

Here is what to do:

1. Raise your lantern using the lantern button (L1 / LB / F on PC)
2. Move slowly around the area — the lantern will react differently depending on your direction
3. When you are facing the right spot, a “Learning in Progress” bar will appear on the left side of your screen
4. Keep your lantern steady and hold that direction until the bar fills completely
5. Once the bar is full, a prompt will appear on the right side of your screen to read the memory fragment
6. Confirm the prompt and the memory will play out in front of you

The holograms will appear showing you the people, the place, and whatever happened there. It is worth watching each one fully — they add a lot to the story and some are required for quest progression.

What Happens If You Miss a Memory Fragment?

Missing a memory is usually not a big deal. You can come back to it later or replay it from your Visione at any time.

However, some memories are directly tied to quest objectives. If you zone out, skip the prompt, or walk away mid-playback, you might find yourself stuck on a quest that requires information from that specific memory.

The most common example of this is the Blood Coronation quest. Players often miss the linked memory the first time through, then find they need to go back and replay it to progress the quest. We cover how to handle that below.

How To Replay Memory Fragments in Crimson Desert

Once you have witnessed a memory for the first time, you can replay it whenever you want. Here is how:

Method 1 — Equipment Wheel (Fastest)

1. Open your equipment wheel (hold D-Pad Left / hold F2 on PC)
2. Switch to the Armor panel (L1/R1, LB/RB, or Q/E on PC)
3. Hover over the headwear slot
4. Select the Visione helmet
5. Hover over it for a second longer — a small action menu will appear
6. Choose Play
7. A list of all your collected memories will open — scroll through and pick the one you want
8. Press Select / Confirm to replay it

Method 2 — Inventory

1. Open your full inventory
2. Find the Visione in your items
3. Hold the interact button (Space / X / A) to open its action menu — do not just press it to equip
4. Select Play
5. Choose the memory you want to watch and confirm

Both methods work the same way. The equipment wheel method is faster once you are used to it.

Note: The first time you use the Visione at a new memory location, pressing the Use button once will default to playing the memory directly. After that first use, you will need to hold the button to bring up the action menu.

You can also cancel a memory mid-playback by pressing Escape / Circle / B — but only after you have already watched it once before. You cannot skip the very first viewing.

How To View the Quest-Related Memory (Blood Coronation & Others)

For story-critical memories like the Blood Coronation quest, replaying from your inventory is not enough. The memory will play, but you may miss the additional prompts that are needed to fully progress the quest.

For these memories, you need to:

1. Return to the original location where you first witnessed the memory
2. Use your lantern to re-activate the memory in that spot
3. Watch the memory through fully
4. Follow the on-screen prompts at the bottom of your screen — these are additional quest-specific interactions that only appear at the actual location

Replaying from inventory works fine for lore and curiosity, but for quest progression, always go back to the location.

How To Check Which Memory Fragments You Have Collected

If you want to see a full list of the memories you have found so far without replaying them, you can check the menu:

Menu → Others → Knowledge → Memory Fragments

This shows every memory you have collected, organized by area or quest. However, you cannot replay memories from this screen — it is a reference list only. To actually rewatch a memory, you need to use the Visione as described above.

Tips for Getting the Most Out of Memory Fragments

• Slow down when your lantern pulses blue. The reaction zone is sometimes very small. Move in a circle if the bar is not filling.
• Don’t skip the first viewing. You cannot cancel the very first playback of a memory. Let it run — you may need the information later.
• Quest memories need to be replayed on-site. Replaying from inventory skips the follow-up prompts that quests require.
• Check the Memory Fragments list regularly. Some collectible memories are easy to walk past. The list in Others → Knowledge → Memory Fragments shows you what you have found and hints at what you may have missed.
• Visione memories stack up fast. By mid-game you will have a long list. The memories are sorted roughly in the order you collected them, so newer ones appear near the top.
