TL;DR
- Myurdin is the very first boss in Crimson Desert’s prologue
- You cannot beat him — the fight is scripted to end in your loss
- Even if you drain his health, a cutscene fires and Kliff loses anyway
- No rewards are given even if you push his HP down
- You can beat Myurdin for real in Chapter 7, with two full boss phases
Crimson Desert wastes no time. Within the first few minutes of the game, you are thrown straight into a fight against Myurdin, the leader of the Black Bears faction. He hits hard, moves fast, and feels like a real boss. So it is completely natural to ask: can you actually win this fight?
The short answer is no. But there is more to it than that.

Who Is Myurdin in Crimson Desert?
Myurdin is one of the main antagonists in Crimson Desert. He leads the Black Bears, the sworn enemy faction of the Graymanes — the group that Kliff, the main character, belongs to.
The prologue begins with the Black Bears launching an attack. Kliff fights through waves of enemies before finally going head to head with Myurdin himself. The fight is intense and teaches you basic combat from the start — dodging, parrying, attacking in windows, managing your stamina.
He is voiced by Alastair Parker and comes across as a genuinely threatening character. His wide, sweeping sword strikes and aggressive combos make the fight feel very real.
Can You Beat Myurdin in the Crimson Desert Prologue?
No. You cannot beat Myurdin in the Crimson Desert prologue. The fight is fully scripted.
No matter how well you play — perfect dodges, well-timed parries, heavy damage — the game will not let you win. Once Myurdin’s health drops to around 10%, a cutscene automatically plays. Kliff is shot by an arrow, loses the fight, and is thrown down a cliff. The story then moves forward into the main game.
This happens every single time. There is no workaround, no secret trigger, and no way to skip the cutscene.
The same cutscene plays whether you have been completely dominated by Myurdin or whether you nearly drained all his health. The outcome is always the same: Kliff falls, the Graymanes are scattered, and the main quest begins.
What Happens If You Try Anyway?
Some players want to test it regardless. Here is what you can expect:
- You can deal real damage to Myurdin during the fight
- His health bar is visible and does go down
- You can survive longer if you have strong mechanics and use the combat system well
- However, the moment his HP gets low enough, the scripted cutscene kicks in
- You will receive no rewards, no special dialogue, and no recognition from the game
There is no secret ending, no alternate cutscene, and no bonus loot for pushing the fight. The game simply does not register a victory here.
So save yourself the frustration. Do not reload saves trying to find a way around it. The prologue loss is intentional and it is part of the story.

Why Is the Prologue Fight Against Myurdin Unwinnable?
Pearl Abyss designed this fight to do two things at once.
First, it introduces you to the combat system in a pressure-filled environment. You learn to dodge, parry, time your attacks, and manage stamina — all against a real opponent who punishes mistakes.
Second, it sets up the entire story. The Graymanes need to fall. Their defeat at Myurdin’s hands scatters the faction and gives Kliff the reason to rebuild from scratch. The loss is the motivation for everything that follows.

Can You Beat Myurdin Later in the Game? (Chapter 7 Boss Fight)
Yes — and this is where things get genuinely exciting.
Myurdin returns as a full, beatable boss in Chapter 7 of the main story. This version of the fight is not scripted. You can and must win it to progress.
The Chapter 7 Myurdin fight has two full phases:
Phase 1: Myurdin
Myurdin comes at you fast in his human form. He uses wide slashes, quick combos, and slam attacks that are hard to dodge if you are too close. The key to Phase 1 is:
- Use Blinding Flash (L1+R1), then follow up immediately with the Blinding Flash Finisher (R2) — this deals huge damage and stuns him repeatedly
- When your Spirit is low, press L3+R3 to activate Focus, which slows time and lets you regenerate Spirit safely
- Keep your distance while building Spirit, then go back in with Blinding Flash Finisher
- Heavy attack combos followed by a Lariat work well to chunk his health early
- Grappling Skills are effective in Phase 1 — use them while you have the chance
- Watch for the explosive barrels around the arena (marked with an “X” in white paint) — you can use them against Myurdin, though it is risky
If you want to sharpen your combat tools heading into this fight, see our guide on how to use Blinding Flash in Crimson Desert.
Phase 2: Lava Myurdin
When Myurdin transforms into Lava Myurdin, the fight gets significantly harder.
He gains fire-based attacks, launches flame charges, and can turn into a massive lava bear form. His slam attacks in this form can take out most of your health in one hit. Explosive barrels become even more dangerous here — getting slammed into one is often an instant kill.
Here is how to handle Phase 2:
- Keep the same loop: Focus to build Spirit → Blinding Flash Finisher → repeat
- Wear fire-resistant or heat-resistant armor to reduce burn damage and stop your stamina from draining during fire attacks
- Note that Grappling Skills do not work in Phase 2 — do not rely on them
- When the screen darkens, Lava Myurdin turns red and begins jumping and slamming repeatedly — dodge backwards and wait it out
- When he swings his slow fire sword, you can parry it and follow up with an R2 attack or take the window to build Spirit
- Be patient. Do not attack blindly. Wait for openings.

How to Prepare for the Chapter 7 Myurdin Fight
Here are the key things to sort out before you take on Myurdin in Chapter 7:
Gear
- Have your weapons and armor upgraded as high as you can get them without needing very rare resources
- Slot Abyss Cores into your sword — good options include Crow’s Pursuit, Crimson Rose Of Sin, and Wind Slash
- The Tauria Curved Sword, earned from the Crowcaller boss fight, comes with the Crow’s Pursuit ability — excellent for ranged damage
- Heat Resistant Armor is highly recommended for Phase 2

Food
- Stock up on Chewy Rice Cakes — available from Ronnie at the Greymane Camp and they refresh daily
- Bring Palmar Pills for emergency revival
- Craft or buy the best healing food you have access to at this stage
Skills
- Make sure Focus is active (Green Skill Tree)

For skill planning, see our guides on how to get skill points and the best skills to level up first.
Tips for Surviving the Prologue Fight (Even Though You Cannot Win)
Even though the prologue outcome is fixed, here is how to get the most out of it:
- Dodge instead of blocking when Myurdin uses heavy attacks — blocking will drain your stamina fast
- Attack only after his combos end — trying to attack mid-combo will get you punished
- Keep your distance when he gets aggressive and wait for him to overextend
- Learn his patterns — this same attack set will show up again in Chapter 7
Treat the prologue as free practice. The skills and habits you build here will directly help you in the rematch.
Where Is Myurdin Located in Chapter 7?
Myurdin is found at the top of Ashclaw Keep, located in the northern part of Pailune. It is a significant trek, so plan your fast travel accordingly. If you are not sure how to get around the map efficiently, see the fast travel guide for Crimson Desert.
Final Thoughts
The Myurdin fight in the Crimson Desert prologue is one of the most memorable opening moments in any recent action RPG. It is designed to make you feel the weight of the loss and give the story a proper foundation.
You will not win that fight. That is the point.
But when Chapter 7 arrives and Myurdin steps into the arena for real, you will have a full fight on your hands — two phases, fire attacks, explosive barrels, and a boss who is no longer holding back. That is when it actually counts.
