TL;DR

  • Kearush is a Chapter 4 main story boss fought in the banquet hall of Hernand.
  • He has three phases — blue, green, and red health bars — each more aggressive than the last.
  • Bring flame weapons, healing items, and at least Level 4 gear before the fight.
  • Don’t try to parry him. Kearush is a brawler — dodge and counter instead.
  • Each phase introduces new attacks. Learn the windows and strike after his combos end.
  • Defeating Kearush rewards you with The Grove’s Thorn (One-Handed Weapon) plus Gale I and Howling of Chaos Abyss Cores.

Who Is Kearush the Slayer?

Kearush the Slayer is a main story boss in Crimson Desert, encountered during Chapter 4. He’s a massive, brutish monster who threatens Hernand from inside the banquet hall. It’s one of the game’s most intense early fights — three health bars, relentless aggression, and attacks that can drop Kliff fast if you’re not prepared.

This isn’t a boss you can brute force without the right setup. Going in underprepared will cost you Silver on repairs and healing items. Read this guide first and save yourself the frustration.

What To Bring Before the Kearush Fight

Getting your loadout right before this fight makes a real difference. Here’s what to prepare:

Flame weapons. Fire is effective against Kearush. Landing flame hits will set him on fire and cause him to roll around, interrupting his attack patterns and giving you free hits. If you have a flame weapon available, equip it.

Healing items. This is non-negotiable. Kearush hits hard and has three full health bars. You will take damage — a lot of it. Stock up on soups cooked at cooking pots before heading in. They restore more health than basic items and are easy to craft from ingredients found in the world.

Level 4 gear minimum. Head to a Blacksmith and upgrade both your weapons and armor to at least Level 4 before this fight. Higher weapon level means faster damage output. Higher armor level means you survive hits that would otherwise one-shot you. Here’s the full guide on how to upgrade weapons and armor in Crimson Desert.

High health stats. Stack health where you can. Kearush has attacks that deal enormous burst damage, especially in Phase 3. High health stats give you the buffer you need to survive his grabs and slams without instantly dying.

Dodge-focused mindset. Kearush is a pure brawler. He doesn’t fight with rhythm you can parry. Trying to time parries against him will get you killed. Rely entirely on evasive dodges throughout the fight and only strike when you have a clean window.

Kearush Phase 1 — Blue Health Bar

Phase 1 is the most straightforward of the three. Kearush relies on ground slams and charge attacks. His patterns are predictable once you’ve seen them once.

Attack patterns to watch for:

The Triple Fist Slam. Kearush charges at you and slams his fists into the ground three times in a row. After the third slam, he pauses for a moment. That pause is your window — step in and land a few hits before backing off.

The Backwards Intimidation Step. Sometimes Kearush steps backward before attacking. Don’t back away — follow him and land strikes during this brief moment. He won’t swing immediately.

Ground Slam Combos. Most of Phase 1 is built around Kearush smashing the ground in patterns of 3 to 4 moves. Keep dodging backward during the combo. Count the hits. Once the last one lands, move in and attack before the next combo starts.

Phase 1 strategy: Stay patient. Don’t get greedy. Two or three hits after each combo is plenty. The goal is to end Phase 1 with most of your healing items still in your pocket.

Kearush Phase 2 — Green Health Bar

Phase 2 starts when the blue health bar is gone. Kearush gets a new move here and becomes noticeably more dangerous.

New and updated attacks:

Wall Leap Slam. Kearush leaps to a wall and clings there for a second before crashing down onto your position. The timing is slow enough to react — the moment he leaves the ground toward the wall, roll in any direction. Once he lands, the slam area is safe and you can move in for free hits.

The Immunity Phase. This is the most dangerous part of Phase 2. Kearush will beat his chest, signalling the immunity phase. He then launches into a rapid flurry of punches — faster than his normal attacks — and finishes with a heavy slam.

During this phase, you cannot damage him effectively. Your options are:

  • Spam dodge and roll away from every hit. This is the safer choice.
  • Jump and use Force Palm to land on his back and stab him repeatedly. This works but the timing is tight and risky if you miss.

The dodge approach is recommended unless you’re confident with the Force Palm timing.

The Lunge Grab. Kearush can lunge forward to grab Kliff, then throw him across the room. Watch his body language — if he’s lowering into a lunge position, dodge left or right immediately. Do not dodge backward, as the grab has forward tracking.

Phase 2 strategy: The wall leap is actually a gift — free hits after every landing. The immunity phase is where most players waste healing items, so focus on survival there rather than offense. Save your resources.

Kearush Phase 3 — Red Health Bar

Phase 3 begins when the green bar runs out. This is where the fight gets genuinely brutal. Kearush uses everything from Phases 1 and 2, but faster, with longer combos and barely any breathing room.

What changes in Phase 3:

Faster everything. All of Kearush’s previous attacks come out quicker. His ground slam combos now extend beyond the standard 3-4 hits. His charge is faster. His flurry punches are more relentless.

Constant grabs, throws, and stomps. Phase 3 sees Kearush constantly grabbing Kliff, throwing him across the room, and stomping on him. These deal heavy damage. Getting caught in a grab-stomp chain without healing items left is a death sentence.

More frequent immunity phases. The chest-beating immunity phase from Phase 2 appears more often here. Keep dodging and don’t waste hits during immunity windows.

Phase 3 strategy: This is where your healing items matter most. Don’t hold back on using them — if your health drops into the danger zone, heal immediately. Don’t wait.

The core strategy doesn’t change: attack after his attacks end. Wait out each combo, dodge through the hits, then land two or three strikes and reset. It’s slower but it’s how you survive Phase 3 without running out of resources.

If you find yourself dying repeatedly and running low on Silver from repair costs, consider going back to farm healing supplies. Here’s how to get iron ore in Crimson Desert and our guide on how to get and use Palmar Pills — both useful for keeping your supplies stocked between attempts.

Kearush Rewards

Defeating Kearush earns you the following:

  • The Grove’s Thorn — a One-Handed Weapon
  • Gale I — an Abyss Core
  • Howling of Chaos — an Abyss Core

The two Abyss Cores are especially valuable. To use them, you’ll need to socket them into your weapons or armor through the Witch. If you haven’t done that yet, here’s the full guide on how to open Sealed Abyss Artifacts and use Abyss Gears in Crimson Desert.
