TL;DR

  • Contribution Points are a regional currency earned by doing good deeds in each area of Pywel. They are separate from Silver Coins.
  • Each region — Hernand, Pailune, Demeniss — has its own independent Contribution bar and its own Contribution Shop.
  • The fastest ways to earn points are completing Bounties, Faction Requests, and liberating bandit strongholds.
  • Committing any crime — even stealing while wearing a Mask — reduces your Contribution XP, whether you get caught or not.
  • You can spend points on faction armor, horse bardings, Contribution Banners (usable as two-handed weapons), and late-game Signets and Crowns.
  • You can also sell Contribution gear back to the same vendor to refund your points.
  • A second use for Contribution Points is hiring Contribution Workers for Dispatch missions.

Contribution Points are one of the most misunderstood systems in Crimson Desert. Most players see the bar filling up and assume it is a reputation meter that just makes NPCs like you more. It is actually a full spending currency — one of the best in the game for early-game gear upgrades, since none of it costs a single Silver Coin.

This guide covers how Contribution works, how to earn it fast, where every Contribution Shop is located, what each one sells, and what other uses the points have that most players never discover.

What Are Contribution Points In Crimson Desert

Contribution Points are a regional currency that works separately from Copper and Silver Coins. You earn them by doing good deeds for the people of Pywel. You spend them at Contribution Shops inside each region’s major city.

The key word here is regional. Every major area in Pywel — Hernand, Pailune, Demeniss — tracks Contribution independently. Being a hero in Hernand earns you Hernandian Contribution Points. Those points can only be spent at the Hernand Contribution Shop. They do not carry over to Pailune or Demeniss.

Likewise, committing crimes in Hernand only hurts your Hernand standing. Your reputation in other regions stays untouched.

Think of it as a local trust system. Each city judges you by what you have done in its own backyard — nothing more, nothing less.

How To Get Contribution Points In Crimson Desert

Every time you fill the regional Contribution bar, you earn one Contribution Point. You can check your current total in the top right corner of the map screen.

Here is everything that earns Contribution XP — and what costs you:

Actions That Earn Contribution XP

ActionContribution Gain
Completing Faction Requests (Notice Board)High — best regular source
Completing Bounties (from Chapter 2)High — fastest XP per minute
Liberating bandit camps and strongholdsVery high — large one-time rewards
Completing main quests and side quests tied to a factionMedium
Completing Dispatch Missions on Experience settingMedium
Donating at a church donation boxLow but consistent
Giving alms to beggars (1 Copper each)Very low — +1 XP per coin
Freeing prisoners and captivesMedium
Participating in minigames like arm wrestlingSmall amounts

Best method early game: Complete Bounties and Faction Requests first. They give the most XP in the shortest time. Liberating a bandit stronghold is a big one-time boost. Combine all three and you will fill the bar several times per session.

Do not waste too much time on beggar donations. Giving alms is a good habit to build passively, but farming Contribution that way alone would take ages.

Want to knock out Bounties efficiently? See our guide on how to complete the Blix Bounty quest in Crimson Desert.

Actions That Lose Contribution XP

Any crime loses you Contribution XP in that region — even if no one sees you do it.

CrimeXP Lost
Theft / pickpocketing~5 XP
Assault on an innocent NPCHigher loss
Killing a civilian or guard~30 XP

Note that crimes reduce Contribution XP, not your Contribution Points directly. But since XP is what fills the bar to earn more points, losing XP sets back your progress. A full murder can undo a lot of side quest grinding in a single moment.

For how the crime and bounty system works in detail, see our how to remove bounty in Crimson Desert guide.

How To Spend Contribution Points In Crimson Desert

There are two ways to use Contribution Points:

  1. Buy items at Contribution Shops — armor, horse gear, banners, and more
  2. Hire Contribution Workers — temporary helpers you can add to Dispatch missions

Most players only know about the shops. The Worker option is covered below.

All Contribution Shop Locations In Crimson Desert

Every major region has at least one Contribution Shop. Some are easy to find. Some require a bit of effort to reach. Here is where to find each one and what they sell.

Hernand Contribution Shop – Haldwin

Location: Inside Hernand Castle. Enter the castle grounds and look for a door to the right of the main path leading to the keep. Go through the door and head into the tower to find Haldwin on the upper floor.

Note: You need access to Hernand Castle first. See our guide on how to enter Hernand Castle in Crimson Desert if you have not unlocked it yet.

Haldwin’s Items:

ItemCost (Contribution Points)
Bolton Plate Armor~23 points
Bolton Plate Cloak~19 points
Hernand Ceremonial Guard Gloves~16 points
Hernand Ceremonial Guard Boots~15 points
Hernandian Barding (Horse Armor)20 points
Hernandian Contribution Banner~30 points
Hernandian Noble’s Cloak19 points
Signet65 points
Crown70 points

Best early purchases: The Bolton Plate Armor and Bolton Plate Cloak are some of the strongest early-game pieces available and they cost zero Silver. Buy these as soon as you have enough points. The Hernandian Barding gives +20 Defense to your horse — a solid pickup for any mount build.

The Hernandian Contribution Banner is worth mentioning specifically. It functions as an equippable two-handed weapon in combat. Watching Kliff cave in an enemy’s skull with a city flag is exactly as satisfying as it sounds.

The Signet (65 points) and Crown (70 points) are late-game cosmetic flex items. They take serious farming to afford, but they are unique status pieces you cannot get anywhere else.

A Second Hernand Shop – Hernand Research Institute

Location: At the back of the main Research Institute building in Hernand.

ItemCost
Scholastone Cloak19 points
Scholastone Cap17 points
Scholastone Boots15 points

This is a smaller shop that most players miss entirely because it is tucked away in a building rather than a castle. The Scholastone set has a distinct scholarly look if you prefer a more understated appearance over the heavy plate of the Bolton set.

Pailune Contribution Shop – Brenner

Location: A small hut near the main building in Pailune City.

Important: You must liberate Pailune as part of the main story before this shop becomes available. It is locked out entirely until that point.

Brenner’s Items:

ItemCost (Contribution Points)
Berkei Barding (Horse Armor)23 points
Pailunese Hat17 points
Pailunese Attire23 points
Pailunese Cloak19 points
Pailunese Gloves16 points
Pailunese Boots15 points
Pailunese Contribution Banner30 points

The Berkei Barding at 23 points is a strong horse gear pickup — one of the best defensive bardings available in the mid-game. The full Pailunese set gives you a distinct regional look that stands out from the Hernand plate armor.

Demeniss Contribution Shops – Three Locations

Demeniss is generous with Contribution Shops but stingy about letting you reach them. There are three shops total in the city, and the main one is deliberately awkward to access.

Main Shop Location (Demeniss Castle): Guards at the front gate will not let you inside. Instead, climb the exterior castle battlements from outside the walls. Once at the top, jump down into the interior courtyard. Find the building with the vendor and head to the second floor.

Main Shop Items:

ItemCost (Contribution Points)
Armor of Demeniss’ Honor23 points
Demeniss Ceremonial Plate Helm17 points
Demenissian Barding (Horse Armor)20 points
Demeniss Contribution Banner~30 points

Yes, you technically have to trespass to buy this armor. The city of Demeniss respects dedication.

Picking up lost loot or grabbing items from inside restricted castle areas during this visit is easy to do accidentally. Read our guide on how to get lost loot in Crimson Desert before you go.

How To Sell Contribution Gear Back

One detail most players miss: you can sell Contribution items back to the same vendor for a full refund of the Contribution Points you spent.

This means Contribution purchases are not permanent commitments. If you buy the Bolton Plate Armor for early-game use and later upgrade to better gear, return to Haldwin and sell it back. You get every point back. This is a great way to “borrow” gear at no permanent cost while you build toward the Signet or Crown.

The sell-back window does not expire, so there is no rush.

How To Hire Contribution Workers In Crimson Desert

This is the second use of Contribution Points that most guides skip entirely.

Contribution Workers are temporary helpers you can hire and assign to Dispatch missions. Unlike regular Comrades, they have no special skills, but they count as an extra body in the mission roster. This lets you run more Dispatch missions simultaneously without having to split your actual Comrades across too many tasks.

To hire one, go to the Dispatch board, start setting up a mission, and look for the Hire Worker option in the assignment screen. Each worker costs a set number of Contribution Points from the relevant region.

Workers are useful when you are running multiple Dispatch missions at once and your Comrade count is stretched thin. They are a low-priority spend compared to armor and bardings, but worth knowing about once you have surplus points.

Tips For Managing Contribution Points

  • Prioritise the Hernand shop first. You spend more time in Hernand early game than anywhere else. Fill up your points before moving on and grab the Bolton Armor while it is relevant.
  • Never commit crimes in a region where you are still building Contribution. Theft alone costs ~5 XP per item. Killing someone costs ~30. A few bad decisions can undo hours of questing.
  • Sell gear back when done. Do not hoard old Contribution gear in your inventory. Sell it back for a full refund and put those points toward the next upgrade.
  • Liberate every camp you pass. Camp liberations are the single biggest Contribution XP source available. Do not skip them while doing main story quests.
  • Watch your carrying capacity. Faction armor and Contribution Banners are heavy. Expanding your inventory space before a big Contribution Shop haul prevents a frustrating encumbrance situation. See our guide on how to increase inventory space in Crimson Desert.
  • Do not bother farming beggars. The +1 XP per Copper coin method is not worth your time unless you happen to pass a beggar on your way somewhere else.
